Summit House Restaurant at the top of Pikes Peak gets a solid four stars from us. Eating at over 14,000 feet is already something to remember, but grabbing fresh donuts up there? Even better. They were warm, sweet, and hit the spot after that chilly ride to the summit. The views while you eat are absolutely unreal--you're literally above the clouds. The inside was clean, the staff was friendly, and everything felt well run despite the altitude. The food options are pretty limited, but that's understandable given the location. If you go to the summit of pikes peak's, this is a must stop for 1 thing........ DONUTS, DONUTS, DONUTS. They are AMAZING!!!! Honestly this place has a Great selection and pretty good food, we also had pizza, and nachos cheese for the nachos was tasty. The view is stunning of course, super quiet in the place due to the elevation. You really can't spend too much time up here without getting a little lightheaded. Also make sure you go to the gift shop, you can fill up any water bottle with mountain spring water for free. And yes it's amazing, cold and refreshing. read more

This place is actually super good? It's a serve yourself cafeteria on top of a mountain and somehow has some of the best food I've ever had anywhere. Best hotdog. Good nachos. Tied best doughnuts - a specialty crispy version of the stuff better cider mills have. Great hot chocolate. I guess this is the highest elevation where a doughnut is produced. When you get to the top of Pike's Peak, you have to grab one of these bad boys. They are deliciously warm and delightful. I was not expecting all of this at the top of the mountain. I've been to the Canadian Rockies before and I don't even remember them having a gift shop. It has a good selection of food, fries, hot dogs, coffee, hot coco, lots of candy, and of course donuts! The donuts were good. They have a good deal where you can buy a donut themed mug and get 2 donuts and a 12 oz drink all for 9 dollars. Probably the best price in the whole place as the other prices seemed pretty steep... but when you have no other option. The gift shop is great. A lot of choices of stuff for everyone. Everyone should try to make it to the summit at least once in their life. The views are worth it. read more

Gosh I really hope to see the new summit house built soon. I know the plans have been submitted and the project should be in the works, but this place is SO tired for being perched atop one of our state's main attractions. The bathrooms cleanliness left to be desired...a quick glance at the bathroom schedule showed no activity within the previous 3 hours on Veteran's day weekend when more activity was to be expected. The gift shop looked a bit tired too. The selection wasn't that breathtaking, tourists would probably be better off heading to Garden of the Gods trading post. All in all everything was a bit more sad than I remembered from 4 years ago :-/ read more

Donuts are unique due to them being made at altitude and the kids loved the hot cocoa and popcorn. They ran out of donuts when we were next in line, so we got snacks and sat down. When you're the only business located at the summit of "America's Mountain" (Pike's Peak), you've kind of got a monopoly on the dining business of the hordes of hungry backpackers, train riders, and car passengers that journey to the top of this beautiful mountain. Thankfully, the Summit House serves up some pretty decent food. However, one item takes this review to four stars: the doughnuts. I'm generally suspicious when a restaurant claims to have a "world famous" anything. But for these pastries, I understand the fame. They're heavily flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg, and just barely sweet without any glaze or frosting. However, what really sets them apart is how light and fluffy they are. Supposedly, this is due to the secret recipe and the elevation. Whatever the cause, it's impressive that they retain that lovely texture even when sitting under a heat lamp. At only 99 cents for one, they're also the cheapest food item in this restaurant, where just a bottle of water will set you back $3. If you're riding the train, make a beeline for the doughnut line as soon as you arrive at the summit, otherwise you'll be stuck waiting in a 30 minute line. read more

If I remember correctly, they are $1.29 for one, $1.99 for two, and $4.99 for six. They're not large, but they're hot and crispy, and just the right amount of sweetness. A cozy stop at the end of a long and winding ascent to the top of Pikes Peak mountain. Amazingly their famous onion-ring sized fried donuts are good combination with their chili. It's impressive that the servers here work double-dutied as EMT personnel. I guess you will have to 'hold the fries' when there is an emergency. The 4 stars is really cause it is a lovely place to warm up at the top of a 14K foot mountain! The donuts that they advertise are giant gut bombs! OMG - greasy as all get out, but warm and crunchy! It is a fun location, all staff are EMT's due to the store being so high and people not realizing the things that can happen to them! We found some cute things to buy for us and for others, enjoyed the gut bomb donut and the warmth!! We had come up on a whim without the proper coats, so the heat was very welcome! So after a drive up America's mountain to pikes peak at 14110 feet you have the Summit House. They have restrooms, gift shop and food/snacks. We had their world famous donuts. After walking around on the summit and enjoying the beautiful views you can definitely appreciate something warm. Those donuts hit the spot. They are not overly sweet, they are light, fluffy hence why I devoured two. They are a bit greasy but not exaggerated either. At least not enough to gross you out. The shop is a decent size but it gets crowded fast with all the people that drive up there and the cog rail as well. You have the gift shop and bathrooms on one end and on the other the food. The donuts are self serve so you basically grab the amount of donuts you want bag them and proceed to cash register. They are about a dollar a piece or 5 dollar for 6 . My only regret was not buying more donuts to go. read more

I didn't eat at the restaurant, but this is the only entry for what's on the peak, and no entry for the peak itself. What a view! I came here while there was a thunderstorm nearby, so everyone started to go inside the gift shop and restaurant. The restaurant looked clean, and the prices that I saw were not horribly high, but at a level that I would expect for a location at the top of the peak with no competition. The gift shop has prices that are on par with other souvenir/gift shops, though I did get a few souvenirs. They have wi-fi available up here for $10 for the day, or $20 for a week. I was able to occasionally get a cell phone signal, so I had no need to pay for the service. read more

Love the donuts here! So yummy! But eat them at the restaurant/top because they tend to deflate if you take them down to lower elevation!

This is based on our visit back in Sept of 2018 (hey better late than never). Loved this experience. My wife and I were the second car up Pike's Peak after the gate opened. Incredible drive. Once at the top it was COLD 20 degrees. We were bundled but wow. The Summit House had just opened but hot coffee was ready though the donuts were not. It wasn't much longer though and we were diving into the sweet treat. I had three (they aren't very big, but a buck apiece, indulge). The staff was very friendly too. We got to see female big horn sheep and their babies. Excellent view from atop too, go figure. read more
