I love my Subaru but not this dealership. I bought my car in August and have been waiting for my DMV stickers to arrive. I finally called twice this week and found out that they were never processed and I was never contacted. I've been driving around with old stickers. Maybe not such a big deal if this wasn't the second mess up I've had with the dealership. The first was with the accounting department and was very inconvenient. I'll tell you what - it's really nice to walk out of a dealership, deal made, new car keys in hand, and not feel like you just got out of a boxing ring. Further, it's downright fantastic to be a woman (alone!) in a car dealership and not be treated like an idiot/easy target, or flirted with instead of being given honest answers. Ladies, I know you know what I'm talking about. I wanted to trade in my Honda for the larger SUV model because we needed more space, and Mazda/Subaru El Cajon was the only dealership within 200 miles that had the car I was looking for. So they kind of had me over a barrel to begin with, and they probably knew that. However, I never felt like they took advantage of that, which was really, really nice. Martin was the salesperson at the dealership and with whom I made the transaction. He was very nice, polite, and put no undue pressure on me in terms of making a decision, even after 2-3 hours. Sure, there was the "what can I do to get you in the car today?" which is standard, but I wasn't treated like a waste of time when it was clear I was walking out the door the first day without a car (After talking back and forth via text with Martin most of the next morning, I came back the next day and bought it). Any questions about the car were answered in a clear, direct manner, which, let's be honest, isn't all that common at dealerships these days. It was a nice, reputable dealership, the employees were honest, polite, and friendly, and I purchased a 2008 vehicle that all my friends think is new when they see it (and was about $2500 under KBB value). This is by far the worst experience I have ever had at a dealership. The level of costumer service was low class. The sales man Aaron couldn't recall details of our conversation from the day before or even over the two weeks we had been communicating. It is beyond frustrating to be very clear as to what you can give towards a sale and repeat it over and over. It was like he never heard me two minutes before when I repeated myself and communicated the same message. He stated he could make a deal with what I was asking multiple time under the conditions that I was asking and bottom line waisted my time by giving me a different story when I arrived on a second visit. I would never recommend this place to anyone there are much better Subaru dealerships near that won't dick you around and have more to offer then unprofessional sales people and a poor manager to boot. read more

Please save your time and do not visit this dealership. Went in to look at a car, took off work, called ahead to verify the car was still there, and I get there and the car is sold. Even better- I was getting calls days after to come in for the same car that sold a week prior. They put me in a new car (of course) and another used car. I said I was interested in the used car and would be back tomorrow to buy. I go back next day to get the used car and it's not ready for sale! They will do and say just about anything to get you in there and put you in a new car. They lied about my credit score and said it was over 150 points lower than it was in order to get me set up with a higher loan. Assistant manager Jeff made me feel uncomfortable the entire time. Jeff used every shady car salesman tactic in the book. He was even rude to me when I said I'm not buying today. Oh- and he wouldn't let me have a copy of the financing info he came up with. Took a hit on my credit for a inquiry just for them to screw around for over an hour making up fake numbers......$790 a month for a 20k used car???? PLEASE save your time and sanity. read more

AVOID THIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT'S BAIT AND SWITCH SCHEMES!! Rep Angel is very unprofessional and his manager Francisco insulta you. I had an appointment over the phone and spoke to ASIA. I asked how much the 60K service would be and she off the bat said "its probably fully covered". I was thrown off by that and specifically said "that seems to generous, can you make sure?" She said she was very sure it was free but could run my VIN number to confirm. She process it and states "yup its free!" I was completely confused so I asked a minimum of THREE times. "ARE YOU SURE ITS FREE?! That seems off" to which she confirm over and over that there would be no cost. I even asked her to list everything included in the 60k package. She listed it. I wrote it down. I make arrangements with my work schedule and wake up at 5am to drive over and be able to arrive by my 7:15am appointment time only to be greeted with terrible sarcasm/flirtiness from Service rep Angel. He was definitely inappropriate and kept throwing in terrible sarcasm borderline making me uncomfortable. He rings me up and the tab shows $1,200! I explain the phone call and he basically says the call meant nothing and his position would be the accurate one to believe. At this point im upset not because i wasn't getting a free service but because i planned around false information. Angel has no patience for me and speaks over me interrupting. He called the manager Francisco who says "its common sense it wouldn't be free!" What an insult! He said it was an error and *I* must be the one who misunderstood Asia. Angel hey stepped back in verbally aggressive and Francisco pushed him back, what a horrible experience. They blamed me for the "misunderstanding". They even said the call must of bee regarding a free rental during service. This was never discussed. They were pulling out any excuse to avoid taking ownership. I asked them to pull up the recorded call and they said they would eventually but would honor no more that 10% off. So $10. Thats laughable! I left and encourage others to AVOID THIS BAIT AND SWITCH DEALERSHIP! THEIR PRACTICE AND DISRESPECT CROSSES THE LINE. read more

I spent Saturday hopping from dealership to dealership looking for a new car. I had done my research and knew that I was very interested in the Forester Limited Edition. Upon my arrival to Subaru of El Cajon Richard greeted us and made us feel comfortable. He let us explore a little on our own and then asked if we had any questions. We were able to take a test drive with Richard where he showed us all of the internal features of the car. After the test drive, I knew this was the car I wanted. We went back into the dealership and after a while came to an agreement on a price, however, the color that I wanted was not in stock in El Cajon. Richard shared that he could ask to trade with another dealer and the car could arrive the next day. Richard was able to work with his other co workers to complete a trade and let me know that he would text me the next day to let me know when I could pick up my new car. True to his word Richard called the next day and said my car was ready and he had a surprise for me when I arrived. To be honest, I am not one for surprises so I was a little nervous as well and excited. When we arrived Richard came out and showed us the car, to my surprise the car was not a Forester Limited, it was a Forester Touring (the next trim up). I was floored! Richard said there was a mix up with the other dealer and he had spoken to his bosses and they were gifting me this top of the line trim for no extra charge. I was so, so surprised and incredibly thankful. Was looking to buy a used Bentley Supersports from this dealership. Send a request for information through their website. Few hours later received a reply from the dealership asking for crazy personal information as if they were assessing me to see if I could afford this Bentley. Essentially, told them not waist my time and I won't waist theirs. Few minutes later received an email, I think it was from a manager saying the car is no longer available. Meanwhile, the car is still being advertised for sale. What I learned from buying cars from dealership is that they must have at least 95% positive reviews. otherwise it's a shady place of business. read more

I bought my new Impreza two months ago and I was fairly happy until I Realized that I didn't know how to use the display screen. I had to make an appointment with someone just to show me how to do it and when I missed my appointment because of work I figured it would be best just to go in myself. Unfortunately my dealer didn't seem to have time for me so somebody else showed me how to get Apple play to work. I was promised Sirius satellite and Wi-Fi and navigation with my car and none of it works. I've tried calling and contacting the dealer who sold it to me but have had no callbacks. I've even tried to go above his head and talk to a supervisor but they will not contact me back either. Now my display screen keeps cutting off and nothing seems to work. I but the car in for that day but I'm starting to think maybe they would have paid more attention to me if I made payments.I am so unhappy with their customer service. So we bought a used 2016 outback on decemeber 29th at first all was great car was wonderful staff was friendly all went good. well 3 days later ( mind you it was raining when we test drove and bought) neither driver or passanger windows worked and the trunk made a clanking noise when lifted ans closed. Called, went down to the dealer the whole 9 yards took till march to get the windows and trunk fixed then they didnt even fix one window and the ruined our tint on the back. So here we are 2 weeks past repair date no one will return our calls and they act like it's no issue when we go to the dealer. Our window still is broken and still have 2 nickle sized holes in the tint. Mind you I always have my 2 year old with me as well. talk about not fun. Going again Monday to hopfully get these issues fixed. But let me tell you we are pissed!!!! read more

I spoke to a representative over the phone about a used car, and they had promised me a sale was going on if I came in to discuss financing. They explained that the finance manager had set aside $100,000 of marketing money to instead reduce prices and increase trade in values for customers. I agreed to come in and discuss financing under these conditions. They made me sign off on a hard credit pull before showing any numbers, and their first offer to me was almost 10,000 over their listed price online. I explained to them 3 separate times that the only reason I came in is because I was promised that the sales manager would lower the price of the car for me due to the sale. The sales manager went back to adjust numbers three separate times, each time never adjusting the base price of the car. In short, I came in and had a hard credit pull done on my credit without Subaru of El Cajon fulfilling their promise to me. The sales manager and sales associate Eric were very friendly and knowledgeable, but could not explain why Shane promised me a sale price. The lack of communication between departments has left me with a tainted credit report, and I will not be coming back regardless of the helpful staff on site. read more

I stopped by to my appointment to a empty store and yet still real slow service. The new cars are okay. I had a printed out email from Bob Baker of a quote, they originally said they'd price match and never did. I listened to all the sleazy distraction techniques with the numbers focusing on the payment or trying to buy my car at an auction price (I told them I'm keeping it and I'd rather sell to a friend or someone who needed it for dirt cheap instead). Overall they never priced match being thousands off to coming close. The manager kinda was funny and remarked at the end "you need to go buy that car" I'm away gave up and told me to buy at Bob Baker. Bottom line these guys for sure are not going to give any close to fair prices and they really seem like they don't want to sell any cars. read more

We had quite an experience with Subaru of El Cajon. Purchased 2020 Forester Touring and found out vehicle had damage (a few dents on hood) when we got home. I lost sleep to say the least. Not sure how everyone missed the dents (good thing we took pictures before we left the dealership). Next day I contacted manager Rone and requested a new unit. This nightmare was turned into a positive experience when Rone got our replacement that afternoon. Our salesperson Josh was friendly and knowledgeable and Tim from finance was helpful. Your service team and Subaru of America went FAR above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I have never experienced customer service of that level. My engine failed in my 2018 STI at 70k miles, just outside the warranty, and my service manager Angel along with Juliana (Jules) of SOA and the district rep took care of everything without a hitch, not the least of which was covering almost the entire cost of repairs which was a huge blessing and speaks to the level of integrity and customer care at Subaru. Every part that was compromised was replaced/repaired at very little cost to me (they covered over $10,000 of an $11,000 bill). I can't say enough how grateful I am for everything you all have done for me the last three weeks. I have been raving to everyone I know. Thank you all so much! I was a serious buyer who was pleased with my sales representative, Junior, who I met with twice and experienced excellent service, great follow-up and he answered all my questions completely. He is a winner at this car dealer. It was his manager who offended me after asking a simple lease question. He's a very old-school car salesman, who spent time talking about how he rescued his wife from making a bad mistake with a lease and another repair issue on her car ... His familiar old message that I walked away with was, "Even smart, well-educated, very successful women need men to make their car decisions." Unfortunately, my man passed away in 2012, and my time with this dealer ended then and there! 22 March 2013 - Purchased our 2013 WX STi and very satisfied with the overall process! STi's are a rare find when they come into a dealership and we hit the jackpot when we arrived because they had 3-2013 WRX STi's in stock. Long story short - 2 out of the 3 got sold that evening. From the time we walked in, to the time we were driving off the lot, it took a total of 2-1/2 hours to complete everything. When it came time for the paperwork, it went very quick and every detail was explained to us. 5-Stars for the Finance Dept!!! Wasted my time coming here. I came here Sunday and they wouldn't budge negotiating, so I left. They called back Thursday to try and get me back. When I told them I would be looking at other cars, they responded with, "We have a strict 'meet or beat policy,' and that I would just need to bring another's dealers offer for them to match it. Keep in mind the cars are in almost the same condition other than theirs is slightly modified. I go and get the paper with an out the door price and show them. The staff was attentive to my needs and did a great job assisting me. Never once did I feel that the staff was in control of the choices that were mine to make. Despite the stereotype of a car salesman, that aggressive pressure and forced kindness often used to influence the buyer conveyed in empty conversation was never present with this team. I am allergic to bullsh*t, so to discover that these people at Subaru/Mazda of El Cajon are genuinely a stand-up group of people, no allergy medication was needed :) I'd like to give a special thanks to Gus for his unwavering patience and bravery (lol, I'm sure I must of made him question whether or not he would make it back to the dealership in one piece after I pushed the speedometer needle over 120mph once or twice)!
