I've gone to this restaurant for several years because it's really local. The price of everything is pretty average for a japanese restaurant, but the quality of the food is definitely worth it. In my experience, most of the time when japanese food is cheaper, it's not as good. But the food here is really delicious, everything I've tried, I've loved. Never tried out the hibachi though. However, I have to say that the staff makes this place seem very unwelcoming. I never wrote a review up until now because as a returning customer, they still treat me extremely weird. I've taken out and dined in dozens of times and it's awkward every single time.
Last night my boyfriend and I went to dinner and it was a crowded Friday evening, and it took us 20 minutes to be sat which I anticipated. Then we were seated and it took over 30 minutes to get a waitress to take our drinks/order, and we didn't get attention until I stopped a staff member (who wasn't even a waiter) who was very confused when we asked for drinks. He brought them 10 minutes later and said it was on the house for the wait, and then we finally got a waitress after 40 minutes of waiting. My boyfriend and I ordered the same exact dish, yet she brought out two different ones. My boyfriend was pretty okay about it because he knew it was busy and didn't want to fuss, but what she brought out was 3$ more expensive and frankly it wasn't what he wanted.
We got the bill and our drinks weren't free, so when I asked the manager (who is also the hostess and is always there) for the drinks to be free for the wait, she was very rude and didn't want to give me 3$ off my bill for the drinks we waited almost an HOUR for. She then told me that "every table had to wait and didn't get free drinks" meanwhile almost every party at the restaurant had 3+ people who were serviced before us. I found it really ridiculous that she hassled me for 3$ off my bill and after awkwardly dealing with the staff, it was really hard to enjoy a nice dinner that isn't exactly cheap. I feel like if I went anywhere else and got that type of treatment, the manager would be much more understanding and kind about the situation and worked with me a little. We ended up leaving no tip after the manager was rude. I didn't want to be annoying or pushy, but I'm sure many people anticipated a wait - but not 40 minutes without even being acknowledged! Ridiculous, there's no excuse for that.
So even though I love the food and will continue to go there, the staff just ruins it for me. I always feel weird or guilty when something comes up and disrupts my time, and the fact that they were so stingy and cold to a returning customer who constantly brings friends/family there - 2 stars.
