I was apprehensive at first as most people are when taking their vehicle to a new auto shop but the staff was very friendly and down to earth. We chatted for a little bit which is always nice. My boyfriend got a synthetic oil change and it took less than an hour so we were very pleased. read more

These guys are great! They don't take advantage of you and they respect your money. When we went in, they let us know what needed to be fixed that day and what could wait. They didn't scare us into fixing anything and were very informative- they even showed us the problem on the car. They were understanding and offered flexible payment options,which was such a relief! Their labor cost is a little high, but it's worth it knowing there are professional, kind, respectful people working on your vehicle. They did a transmission fluid drain and fill and did not tighten the drain bolt correctly and they re used the washer that should have been replaced, therefore my car started leaking transmission fluid. I had Acura fix the issue. I called Sun Auto and left message for manager to try and get a refund and no one called me back.(The previous year they also lost my tire key but after arguing with manager they replaced it. They also told me my tires had been balanced and rotated after an oil change but we later found out they had not done it because the tire key was not in the car that day.....the tire key they lost in the previous oil change.....sigh). Used to come here for maintenance because of its convenient location, but have decided to stop. Some of the mechanics/staff are very nice but I don't trust the work anymore. read more

I've been to Sun Auto several times in the last year and the customer service is very inconsistent. We are a three car family and I'd like to continue to use them. I just left after being told "there is no way I can fit you in". I wasn't asked to come back, just turned away. The first time I went there they went out of their way to be nice to me. So far these guys have bent over backwards to help me out. I dropped my car off Monday morning, I waited while they got my paperwork together, and within 20 minutes the Shop Manager gave me a ride to work, (it takes 45 minutes to get to work!) and was really nice about it the entire way. Once he dropped me off at work, he told me if I needed a ride home to let him know. Now that's service!!! They called and gave me a verbal estimate over the phone, and everything they said made sense. I also checked what they said with a friend that is a "backyard mechanic" and it all made sense to him also. These guys are great. I recommend them! read more

Came to these guys about an hour before they closed and they provided excellent service! Needed new brake rotors & my brake fluid changed after being told the rotors were almost metal on metal. Had no idea! Its not every day or every month that you have this kind of maintenance and I forgot how long it had been since it was last done. Below is how Sun Auto responded to my previous poor review. This is my response. When I went in and spoke with the service writer, Anthony, he NEVER told us that the company policy was to not install customer provided parts. He told me they wouldn't warranty the parts. I completely understood there was no warranty on the parts, but I was providing new Toyota parts because I wanted to insure I didn't get aftermarket parts installed. He told me and my wife, more than once, they would guarantee the labor. There's no way in the world I would have left my vehicle to be repaired with a shop that wouldn't guarantee the work done. I've been a mechanic for over 20 years and an Engineer for 20 more years. I knew exactly what was wrong with my vehicle, but also understood that If I misdiagnosed the problem, I was responsible. I suspected problems with the vehicle before I even picked it up. While the car was being worked on, I drove by twice in 1 hour and saw our car outside the shop with the hood up and it took them over 4 hours to do a 2 hour job. I strongly suspect the car had a check engine light after repairing and they were doing everything they could to clear the error before we picked it up. The check engine light was occurring because when the work was being done, a small piece of the old gasket material got lodged in the cam timing actuator. After picking up the car, 3 days later hesitation was experienced and then the next day the check engine light came on. The check engine code was because the cam timing actuator couldn't work properly with the debris left in the engine by Sun Auto when replacing the cam gear. I took the car back because I knew the problem was related to the work previously done. Anthony took the car in to check it out and never said anything about no warranty on the previous work. They diagnosed the problem to be just what I already knew it was, a defective cam timing actuator, but instead of spending less that 5 minutes to remove the part and look for the debris causing the problem, they just wanted to charge me $250 to replace both cam timing actuators. The ONLY way the gasket material got lodged in the cam timing actuator is by it being left behind by the mechanic when the cam gear was replaced. I don't believe the gasket material being left behind was intentional, but the way Sun Auto handled the problem was completely unprofessional. The primary reason I'm writing this review is because of the way I was treated by this shop and some of the other reviews where people experienced getting charged for services they didn't receive. This shop preys on people that have no knowledge of automotive repairs and it's only experienced people like me that expose them for what they really are. If the mechanic working on my car would have had necessary experience to understand the most likely reason for the problem right after performing the work done previously, he would have spent the 5 minutes necessary to remove the cam timing actuator and find the debris left behind, removed it, and I would have been a satisfied customer. A mechanic needs to know how to think about a problem and resolve it with logic and not rely on plugging in a machine that tells him what the problem is. The majority of the good reviews I see are related to oil changes and minor services, not internal engine repairs. My suggestion to consumers is to be very cautious when taking your car to Sun Auto and read some of the other reviews where people have been done wrong. My suggestion to Sun Auto is to get all of your people on the same page. Tell them to quit lying to their customers and if company policy is to not take in repairs with customer provided parts, then don't do it. CONSISTENTLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I try not to go back to this place but keep returning due to it being walking distance to my home. Multiple occasions I have visited this business to have simple oil changes completed and upon arrival I am ignored for 2-3min by all the staff that is sitting at the front. They appear to be busy or working and fail to give the common courtesy to let their new customers know that they will be with them shortly. If the staff would simply say, "Hello sir/ma'am, I will be with you shortly," I would be 10 times happier on the way my visits go. The staff at the front desk are consistently short and snappy. I understand what it is to be busy but there are no excuses for poor customer service. I will never return to this business again and will take my business to Groovy from here on out. This was an awful experience. When I went to pick up my vehicle, they had left trash on the floor board and an empty coffee cup in my cup holder. Then when I went inside to inform them of this, they didn't even apologize. They also charged me double what my normal mechanic would have charged! I will never be using this location or any other location of this auto chain ever again. I will drive the 2 hours to my home town and go to a mechanic I can trust not to screw me over. read more

Pretty mixed about this place. Brought my wife's Benz in for an oil change because their prices on changing Mercedes oil was about 1/2 of what other places were charging. They said it would take an hour which it did. So far so good. Their location is great because you can walk around South Park Meadows shopping center while you wait rather than sitting in their lobby watching Rachel Ray and drinking bad coffee. Then I asked them how much they would charge to replace one headlight bulb, which I had on me already, on the car. The quote was 2 1/2 hours of labor which came out to around $250. Are you kidding me??? I thought it was a joke at first. They also told me they did a free tire rotation which I highly question because all of the brake dust was still on my front tires when they were finished. Pretty suspect. read more

So a fun thing happened today. I took my truck in because of my check engine light. I got a call from one of the guys at Sun Auto Service in Leander and he told me about the laundry list of things that needed to be fixed. First off, we pulled the codes and it has to do with acceleration. The guy tells me I have no oil in my truck, there are several leaks but they can't find them, I essentially need a new motor, I have exhaust issues that is flowing into the motor (something that was addressed prior and supposedly fixed), fixes me a total then continues to tell me about other things wrong with my truck. All of which he said they discussed with me previously BUT THAT'S A LIE. I have a young child so my first priority would have been to take care of said issues when/ if it was discussed. I told him to wait and he offered to do an oil change since my truck somehow is completely empty. I asked how much and he said $27. Then he goes on about washing the motor and doing an ink test so they can try to locate the leaks. I asked how much and again he said $27. To that I agree. Later in the day he calls back, tells me they can't find the leaks but tells me about blown gasket rings, some other stuff, told me to pretty much get a new motor or sell the truck. After talking he said I can get my truck and it'll cost over $200! That's not what he told me earlier! I told him he never said anything more than $27 and starts back peddling. I told him I would have never agreed because I don't even have that much. His solution was to knock out $22 and make it $200... which I don't have. Then his answer is "we can keep it till you get paid but we charge $25 a night" after telling him I don't get paid for 2 weeks. I would have never agreed had be told me the actual prices and not catfished me. Now my truck is being held hostage until I come up with the money because this man doesn't know how to do his job or something?! I'm furious. I told him several times he never told me the additional charges and he back peddled and told me I can talk to his manager tomorrow who just conveniently left. I'm never going there again after I get my truck back. read more

Took my car in for an oil change on Friday to get ready for a drive up to Dallas. Half way to Dallas Saturday morning the oil light on the car comes on. I pull over to check the car and when I open the hood I find Sun Auto employee had forgot to put the cap on the oil reservoir. Hot oil had spilled out over the entire driver's side under the hood. Battery, hood, and all of the equipment on driver's side was covered in oil. Called Sun Auto and they were very polite and offered to power wash the car on Monday. My wife took the car in on Monday and their service was terrible. They did not apologize, explain to her what they were planning to-do to the car, or give her an estimated time she would get the car back. They just left her standing there having to pepper them with questions to get any information. She did receive a free oil change voucher, but we have no plans to use it. read more

My experience has been going on since June 2020. I posted a really bad review where these people got 8000 out of us. We had been doing business with them for over 10 years. At the end of May we took my Acadia to them and paid them 3000 to put in a cadilic converter and over 5000 to fix my husband's truck a couple days after that. Well, the day I picked up my vehicle when I drove it off the parking lot., it sounded like a 1950 vehicle it ran horrible. I had to call them cuz my truck ran like shit. After it had been there fir a couple of days, I had to turn around and take it back because the vehicle was worse then what it was before. Then, since we had been dealing with these idiots for so many years, and have paid them so much money. We have been thru so many managers, and so many new employees that we have put so much money into that company to get treated the way we are being treated is disgusting. A couple of days after my vehicle had to be returned, which that right there should have been an eye opener. But we trusted these fools. We still took my husband's truck to them and had them put in a rack and pinion and talk us in to saying that the transmission need to be rebuilt. Well, my husband's truck was there for a total of 10 days the first time. To make a story short. I put this on Yelp about the messed up job they did and made us loose a 6000 job for having to take the truck back more then 3 times. And they kept saying nothing was wrong with it. I told Adrian that the my husband kept hearing noises from the rack and pinion and they said bring it in. Here we go again. After the vehicle kept going back and he kept saying nothing was wrong. Well, my husband was driving to work one day and the rack and pinion brakes in the middle of the street. And we have to get towed. Well , my husband didn't know what it was. The steering wheel had tighter up. Well, we get it towed to A new mechanic "Don't want them idiots looking at our vehicles anymore. Well we get charged $110 to look at the vehicle plus $80 towing for them to tell me that the rack and pinion had broke. Well, I call the mechanic that had worked on it. He tells me they do want to deal with you cuz of all stuff you started. I said bullshit if they aren't going to deal with me. We paid yall over 8000 in less then a month. Then, he said well I can let them know and see if they are going to want to go look at it. Then he made a smart remark and said " well what did your husband hit. I said what do u mean what did he hit. He said yeah does he work on a Rancho. Being sarcastic. I was like y'all are lucky he didn't get hit from behind cuz I would have a lawsuit on yalls ass. Well they went out and looked at it, and sure enough had it towed to Sun Auto and repaired it. Well, here we go again, right before New Year we took the truck back to the mechanic and he said bring it to me when it's time to change the oil, so I don't charge you the $110 again I will charge you for what you are going to have done and I can look at it. Well, the rack and pinion is leaking the fluid again. And I have called the main office already and spoken to several people and all they say is they will get back to me. This company is a piece of shit. They lie, they take your money. The mechanic we have now explained to us and said, if you were paying all that money at the time, why didn't that guy Adran explain to you the option of putting a new or refurbished rack and pinion. It would have been your decision. You were already spending a lot of money. And the cost of labor was going to be the same. Oh and the lady at the main office Teresa, says and what are you wanting. I said my money. It's like a joke. U get no response. This company is a joke. Oh then on my towing receipt the district Mgr Wes, he is a waste of time. I wouldn't call him a manager. He is a liar, I told him they needed to pay that towing bill cuz it was there fault. He said "we usually don't pay those. I said well y'all are. Cuz how many times did we take it back and tell y'all. And then it broke. He said send it to my email. To this day, I have sent it several times, and nothing. They are all liars. The lady said she was going to see about getting my money back. These technicians "predicted" that I would have trouble with my truck! This was from taking my truck in for an oil change. I have never had any leaks from my truck's oil pan. Now, 4 days later, I have a oil stain in my driveway from my truck leaking oil and my coil heater is steaming! They also said my radiator needed to be replaced. I am fearful of what happened to my truck while it was in their shop. I am so angry! I am contacting authorities to see what recourse I have. read more

I was actually really happy with the service that I received at the location. They're getting 2 stars because they forgot to put the oil cap back on the engine. I took the car in for an inspection and asked them to check out my brakes. The man working up front was very kind and helpful. I wish I could remember his name because he is the reason I gave two stars instead of one. Great guy. I dropped the car off and was told that I'd receive a call when it was ready. 4-5 hours later I called to check on the status of the car and they said, "Oh, yeah it's ready" as if it had been ready for a while. That's not so terrible. The thing that bugs me is that when I went to pick my car up, I pointed my clicker at it to unlock the doors and it didn't work. I used the key to open the door and noticed that the lights had been left on. When I got inside, my car was making noise to alert me that something was up. The lights were flickering and I was unable to start the car. I had been told that my car is ready and it certainly was not. When I went inside to ask the nice attendant about the problem, he asked one of the techs to come out and jump my car. When I told the tech that someone had left the lights on and drained my battery, he blamed the battery. He started rattling on some nonsense about the way batteries work and intended to convince me that something weird happened with the battery even though it wasn't documented in the inspection and my car passed. He kept using industry lingo in hopes of throwing me off his scent, but I persisted. The conversation ended when I told him that I don't buy it and that the car has been working just fine up until the inspection. I mean, the lights were still on when I got in the car. Someone left the lights on and drained my battery and that's all there is to it. Own up to it and I'd respect you more, but trying to convince me that I need a new battery because you screwed up is cowardly and unprofessional. I came in for a simple inspection and this is what I got? Not acceptable. The battery continues to work just fine four months later. I'm only getting around to writing this review now because I just received an email thanking me for my positive review of this business. I did not leave a positive review of this business anywhere. If anything, I left a positive review by not posting a negative review right after this happened. I wanted to let it go, but if a fake positive review has been authored using my name, it most certainly was not written by me. read more

At the young age of 21, and being an inefficient car owner, I had no idea where to take my inherited '99 Suburban in Austin. After some research I decided to try this company. Upon meeting me, everyone at Sun Auto was friendly and knowledgeable, which is exactly what I needed. They have never cheated me and have always been open and honest about necessary work/suggestions in regards to my car. Anytime I have car issues, which apparently is every other month, I am at Sun Auto. These men all know me by name now and completely take care of me. Anything that I need they are there. I know that they would go out of their way to help a young lady, such as myself, and will refer every person I know to their wonderful services. Keep up the awesome work guys. read more

I usually go to our family mechanic but had a serious combination of problems in my front end which needed immediate attention. I knew going in that my wheel bearings had gone out due to an alignment problem. I had worn tires, throbbing brakes, and creaking bushings. I received a comprehensible written estimate with no surprises and no pressure. They provided several repair options to prioritize and decide what to have repaired immediately and what could wait. They were able to get me in right away and could do all of the repairs there including new front tires at a decent price. The large, comfortable waiting area made it pleasant. They even provided me with a charger when my cell phone went dead. I might have been able to get it done a little cheaper but I feel comfortable that I got what I paid for which is a sound repair and good service. It's been over a month and I haven't had any problems. P.S. I also liked the fact that they sponsor a little league team where my kids play baseball (Manchaca Optimists Youth Sports). read more

I had the best experience here. Rudy fixed me right up. From the shops initial inspection, we thought I was looking at a $500 barring replacement job. Once the broke the wheels down they found a loose nut. The vehicle didn't need new barrings. They could have easily sold the job and I wouldn't have known any better. Rudy called with the good news. They did have to charge me for breaking down the frontend wheels. This is labor intensive on a 4x4 but the cost was only $115. Man where do I start. Got a Jeep Wrangler from Carmax right before COVID shook the world. It was used with 90,000 miles on it when I got it. I recently started hearing a ticking sound under the hood. Sun Auto is a certified CarMax mechanic so I took it there. Alan C., who's usually at the front was very transparent to say the least about the timing of the inspection. The bad new was that I needed a new engine. After a few days of Sun Auto speaking with my warranty company on my behave there were able to come to an agreement to put a used 40,000 mile engine in my Jeep. Again the communication was immediate every stop of the process. From the time Alan told me about what the ticking sound was and them having my Jeep back on the road was 2 weeks. In my opinion that's exceptional work, but there's more. When I went to go pick up my Jeep, Alan let me know that they didn't but the 40,000 engine in. Instead they dropped a remanufactured engine in from the dealership which was about 700 dollars more from what the warranty company offered and they weren't expecting me to pay the difference. Man, I was lost for words to say the least. The Sun Auto team is really professional and looks out for the customer. read more

Tony at Sun Auto on Slaughter lane is awesome! OK, they made a mistake repairing my Lexus RX300...but read on please. They replaced the heater core to fix a leak that was manifesting itself with puddles on the passenger floorboard. 2 weeks later, the leak appeared again, only worse this time. When they investigated, they found that they had done something incorrectly originally. Instead of cooking up some story and/or charging me more, they owned up to the mistake, apologized, and repaired it correctly. OK, so they have actual humans working there. LOL. Anyone can make a mistake. I appreciate the honesty. That goes a long, long way with me. I will be back. Thanks guys! read more

So I am in South Austin, not too familiar with the area and I am looking for a place to get an oil change and have them look at my brakes. Since I have come down here I cant seem to find really good people to do business with. Its like no one seems to want business that badly. That was not the case with these guys. They were very personable and reasssuring that they could get my car in right away. The reason why I gave the 5 stars is because I was convinced that I needed new rotors but the manager told me that a little break fluid was all that was needed and I would get more life from the pads and the rotors were fine. The guys are at Sun Auto are very nice. However, I was very unhappy with my last experience with this business. Their policy indicates that they will call before repairs are completed. They did call me to advise me of bigger problem with my car that I needed to deal with at another repair shop. Well, I thought the call meant they weren't going to work on the car until I got the previous work fixed. Much to my surprise and 300 dollars later, they did their work knowing that it won't last because I need to go back to the other repair shop and get the first job completed. I was shocked that this business would complete work that they know would not work in 30 days or less. I am very disappointed with the way they handled this situation. I have an older model Jaguar and I needed a new air conditioning system and a fuel pump. I was new to Austin and took my car to Sun Auto and have had great service and repairs. It is difficult to find anyone to work on my car, but Sun has been great. When I told them I felt the price was too high for my air conditioning system they adjusted it downward. read more

I've been going to Sun Auto for a couple of years now because it's location is very convenient compared to the Toyota dealership. I went in today with my 2012 Toyota Corolla for a routine oil change and was met inhospitably. Last oil, they recommended my transmission fluid be changed at 30,000 miles.. To my knowledge well under what you'd normally get your transmission fluid replaced. So I went to the dealership for a second opinion where I discovered my Corolla has Lifetime ATF, they explained to me that the fluid should not have to be replaced under normal driving conditions, but to come back at 60,000 miles for a check up. Irregardless, I was not looking for a transmission flush on this particular day. This was met with a very awkward and demeaning argument with the clerk that insisted that "They're lying".. I can understand that your shop is just trying to help but the tone of the argument was condescending and hostile, I left that interaction very uncomfortable. Something that has happened several times at this location. I will say the oil change took less time than estimated which I've never had a problem with... BUT I came back to find that my oil change cost $60! I was told that was because my car took synthetic oil, but the last time I came in was with my Corolla and I was charged $24.99 or something along those lines. I was well aware my car took synthetic oil and this not being my first time taking this car in, I thought shop would be aware of the fact as well. So instead of waiting to see if I was aware of the price they just went ahead and put the oil in my car.. I'm no thief so I paid the full price but If the service was consistent, kind and well meaning this transaction would have been accepted without argument, however I was met by a rude clerk, who did not make me feel comfortable and demeaned me.. I can get a cheaper oil change at the Toyota dealership+ kind and hospitable customer service. You've lost a customer today. read more
