We had a bad experience on the freeway my wife's 2013 Jeep Patriot's clutch went out, after dealing with what to do and where to take the car, we decided to take it to a well known auto parts and repair place, after they gave us an astronomical quote that was higher than the valued of the vehicle, and after talking to them I didn't feel to much confidence on these people. Then my wife remembered taking her car to Sun Devil Auto for rear break repair, were she dealt with John and she had a good experience there. So we took it there and the service was unmatched, the price was right, the treatment was great, and the car is like brand new... They try to take advantage of people that don't know cars much here . Took our car in for a $300 repair that we prior diagnosed, We are picking up the car right now. Hopefully they didn't do nothing to it to make it run bad it was running perfectly fine when we took it in. We just took it in for a change of sensor then they're telling us to replace the whole manifold. Beware here. After 3 more touch up visits, It is still not fixed. At the last visit they sent it out to a more specialized place for a week and even paid for a rental during the time. I ended up still in the same place. Every time they assured me everything is fixed and I will have no more problem with the coolant cycle. It leaked again after my 10 mile commute to work. They charged a lot of money and it is still not fixed and I have no money to bring it somewhere else. They burned through a full tank of gas as well and got it back to me on reserve. I can not say that they don't give it an effort but I expect to get it fixed after a first second try for the ridiculous amount they charged for just the coolant cycle. I went to Sun Devil in Scottsdale on San Victor for a simple oil change. Regular price is 49.99 but I had a coupon for 39.99. The man at the counter was going to charge me 5.00 for an oil filter because I needed a special kind for my 2010 Ford Fusion. So the total would be close to 50.00 for my oil change. All I have to say is this location consists of a bunch of hustlers!! They told me I needed brakes and rotors after an oil change. One guy told me I had 1-2 mil left on my brake pads. When I called back to confirm, they told my over the phone that I was touching the metal (never said in person) and they said I 100% needed rotors which would have cost 1200 total with pads, rotors and labors. SO glad I got a second opinion from brake masters who said I did NOT need rotors and I made it just in time. My husband was going to get his oil change here but we will definitely not be back. Ripped off for $1070. Check engine light on. Truck brought there on 3 different days for a total of 24 hours. Check engine light never went off. Horrible diagnostic skills. Replaced wrong parts. Went to another mechanic issue fixed in 1 hour for an additional $500. Spoke with manager Bill who blamed their incompetence on me and lied. I told them on 2 occasions the brakes were getting hard to apply. All 3 times I picked up the truck after they had it for 8 hours the check engine light came on again quickly. WARNING: Don't allow this shop to complete any repairs on your vehicle - they are just looking to take your money! I spent $1,000's of dollars here, got taken advantage of, and lied to. This is a long story I'll try to shorten up: I brought my vehicle in 6 months ago because it was vibrating a little at freeway speeds and more when I'm braking - they GUESSED it was my front brakes & rotors. After replacing those and a leaky axle part I still felt the same vibrating that prompted me to bring it in initially. They drove it two separate times and told me they didn't feel the vibrating and everything on the car looks great. Additionally, there was a squeaking in the front end they just told me "I'm not sure what it causing that and we couldn't find the issue but we think it might be the struts/mounts, the only way for us to know is by actually replacing them". I didn't replace them because they didn't even know for sure that's what the problem was Forward to months later, my two front tires that only had 30,000 miles on them are shredded and wearing incorrectly. I bring the car back to Sun Devil and tell them there is DEFINITELY still something wrong since my tires wore out in half their expected mileage. They proceed to tell me my front bushings need to be replaced and my rear brakes and rotors also needed to be replaced. After the bushings were replaced, the squeaking and vibrating in the front end that had been going on for 6 months was completely resolved - that was the issue the whole time but was not properly diagnosed so I proceeded to ruin tires because of the lack of properly educated mechanics. Had the bushings been diagnosed and replaced when the vehicle was first brought in it would have saved me a couple thousand dollars. I had a brake warranty so declined for Sun Devil to replace the brakes and rotors. When I brought it to the other shop, they informed me I had 7mm of brake pad on the rear brakes and my rotors looked perfect!!!! How infuriating to find out Sun Devil wanted to charge me over $400 for a service and parts I DIDN'T EVEN NEED!!! What kind of business tries to steal hard earned money from their customers? After calling the shop to complain, my significant other went to the shop to speak with the store manager who proceeded to tell us we would need to contact his boss regarding the situation. We were then given the WRONG EMAIL ADDRESS for his boss and had to call back to get the correct one. Once the email was sent to John Erickson, I received a voicemail stating he was on vacation and would get back to me upon his return Tuesday, May 9th. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL FROM JOHN. My significant other and I have several friends and family members that use Sun Devil and it is very discouraging to find out we can no longer trust that this business cares about their customers - they simply care only about the paycheck. read more

0 stars. Go anywhere else! I brought my car in because my A/C wasn't blowing cold. Ben, the sales desk rep, was smug and carried an air of career criminal as I gave him my information. After the diagnosis, Ben (Winkler) called me saying there was only a leak, and he'd call back with a quote for the work. 40 minutes later, he calls back and quotes me $2250. I asked for it to be itemized and why the cost was so high since I just had a new compressor put in last summer. He now is saying I need a new compressor and a liquid line ordered from California. Once I came back in to speak with Ben and the technician (Alexander) to look over the quote breakdown, it was apparent they were trying to price gouge me. $850 for a part that costs ~$350, a fascinating 200% markup! I pointed this out and seeming to enjoy my distress, Ben and the tech go on to say he doesn't price the parts, and I swear to god, even says "also it's 3:00PM". Why does it being 3:00PM on a Tuesday mean I should pay more for parts/work that couldn't possibly be done by day end!!? Immediately after leaving, I drove down the street to the Scottsdale Sun Devil Auto location to get another quote. Listed off the part numbers from Ben's quote to the rep, and the price is down by $500! I did not use either Sun Devil Auto for my repairs and after going to another mechanic for a second opinion, found that there was NO leak, I didn't need any of the parts Ben/Alexander listed, and I just needed a recharge for the A/C system. Have been taking my cars here for oil changes for many years, can't beat having someone do your oil change for less than $20. They also rotate the tires change oil filter and do a in dept inspection which is included. The only thing they don't do is wash your car. Make an appointment and you are done is an hour. Just use your judgment what needs to get fixed because they will recommend items that can wait. Will be back again for oil change read more

The one who attended me began to argue with me that it was the freon and I told him that it was not.... That it was something badly connected. Sun Devil Auto, no matter which location you go to in the Valley is always going to provide excellent service. I have been to 3 different shops around the Valley since I have lived in Phoenix for the last 3 years, and each time has always been met with great service, as well as prices that many other places just can't compare to. I recently went in to have my wheel bearing replaced and while most places cost roughly $400-$500, Sun Devil auto was able to provide the wheel bearing replacement as well as an oil change, tire rotation, and tail light replacements for a little under $350. If payment is also an issue, they also allow for you to pay for the services through an installment plan (Shout out to John for showing this to me). It really depends on the time, but at least everytime I have brought my car in, it has not been busy. It seems like the employees are not only courteous and friendly, but they also work pretty efficiently in making sure that you get your car back within a reasonable time frame (2-3 hours). If you don't mind waiting, they also have a TV which is nice, a lot of other shops generally have old coffee and old magazines to go off of while you wait, so it's nice that this Sun Devil Auto has a TV. If you are unsure as to whether it will be busy, rather than just dropping in, I would recommend calling ahead of time and scheduling an appointment at least a day or two in advance, and they will be more than happy to accommodate you. Overall, 5 star service with this shop, and always come in here for a tire rotation and oil change. read more

Went in and dropped my car off and got the receipt back with the work order and all they did was change my oil and rotate my tires and the check engine light is still on. Yes, I did agree for both but I assumed it was going to be that PLUS checking what caused my check engine light. Pie $60 for an oil change and still need to find out what's wrong with my car. Will not be bringing my car back to this location even with the convenience of it being no more than a 2 min walk away Update: added star for response from store. Ended up taking my car to Econo Lube N' Tune & Brakes right next to the Fry's and my experience with them has been nothing short but amazing. brought my car in at 4 PM on Friday before they closed at 5, got my car (with the check engine light diagnosed and fixed) the next day by 11:30 AM. This is where I always took my car & have referred multiple people. Will no longer be a customer & will let everyone know the awful experience I had this morning. Jonathan was extremely disrespectful & rude this morning when I was asking questions about pricing & previous work done on my car. Proceeded to say to me - 'you keep adding on questions.' Well yes Jonathan it is your job to answer questions about my vehicle your place of work has worked on & is about to work on since you're the one working the front desk at this current time correct? Carlos told me it was under warranty & did not charge me for said repairs. Carlos made no note of the break change Jonathan says. Seems like that would be an internal error made by your team & im unsure why me asking about said repairs caused Jonathan such a fuss this morning. Two weeks ago when I got my oil changed & asked them to look at the breaks Ben calls me & says you need new tires. I said I just got new tires at discount because my tires were never rotated on my last oil change AT THIS LOCATION! - which shredded them so thanks for that extra cost as well due to your shops negligence. So how could I need new tires? Ben's tone changed quickly & said it's the rotors you should just get the life of your rotors out even tho he knew the car was shaking when it breaks. I asked do I need to do the tires as well? He says no you should go back to discount you have nice tires get more of these when you need them. Great. Confusing. Drove car for two weeks shaking became intense when breaking. Called Saturday to book appt. Ben says it will be $375 WITH LABOR! I had a headlight bulb out in my car. I took it to Sun Devil for an estimate and was told that it was no "easy task" to change the bulb in my car. I was quoted $140 and told it takes .8 hr of labor. Since I am a 70 yr old retired female this seemed extremely expensive. I went to Mach One Automotive where the owner Greg changed the bulb in 2 minutes and only charged for the bulb-no labor! He said "I wouldn't charge labor for 2 minutes". I returned to Sun Devil to ask about the estimate and was once again quoted $140 and told that is the standard company charge!!!! Wow. Once he dropped it off we got a phone call 2 hours later with two additional problems; first problem was they overlooked that they had to take the gaskets off to make the repair and THE SECOND WAS THE FACT THAT MY JEEP WAS LIFTED AND THEY DIDNT HAVE A MECHANIC TALL ENOUGH TO WORK ON THE GAS LINE WORK!!!!
