Five minutes after we left the place, I started to have a stomach problem while I was driving my family home. Within 2 hours, everyone of my whole family had bad diarrhea up to three times. Went on a Saturday morning with my boyfriend. We got seated in seconds! It was at the bar, but we were eating within 2 minutes! All of the carts were making their rotations around the room. Everything I love was available, except steamed pork buns or lotus rice, but it did not matter, because there is so much food available! It will give you the opportunity to try new foods. Do not eat here.... The waiter didn't speak english and tried to charge us for more than we order. The food is shitty. Yuckiest food I ever had. And they brought more food and told us that we ordered.and when we said No, they won't give up. And we asked them to look at the camera. Then they took them off the bill. And at the time of checkout the waiter added $10 tips to the bill. We denied to tip them because the service was horrible, food was horrible. This place is so horrible, if you like to eat at places with mediocre food and way below average service pay this place a visit. I go to Sun Kong for the cocktails, but I also enjoy the food. The Mai Tais are excellent and the Scorpion Bowls are great too. The only thing I don't love about the bar is that they have Karaoke on Fri, Sat., and Sun. If you've read the reviews of Pearl St. Station, the "Chinese Frank Sinatra" that sings there on Saturday sings at Sun Kong on Fridays. Sit at the bar rather than the lounge area if possible, because the waitress isn't very friendly or attentive. As far as the food goes, it is pretty decent. Fantastic authentic chinese food. I can only speak to the chinese food you would find going to a restaurant in Chinatown or a place like Victoria's Seafood Restaurant in Allston. This place is very much like Victoria's in that it offers great authentic chinese food but not have to deal with the crazy traffic and parking of Chinatown. If you are looking for the americanized style chinese food...well, I can't speak to that but in my opinion...who really cares, I want the good food not the fast food style stuff. It's a good thing that there's a dim sum restaurant here in Malden now considering the Asian population. It's convenient and I feel like you are getting your money's worth when you get each dish. There are days where you have to wait for a table, but the wait is no more than 10-15 minutes. However, it's worth the wait. I really recommend this one dish, it's called ''Golden Pig'' in Cantonese. It's this tiny fried pastry with bean paste inside that looks like a porcupine (I don't know why it's called a pig though) and it's crunchy, fresh, and delicious. I get it every time I come here. I have been here for dim sum and it wasn't bad so I decided to try out the dinner here. Never again! The food was so salty and there was so much sauce on the food. The only way that I could make the food actually edible was patting it down with my napkin. I even resorted to dunking my food in tea! Been here before and it was pretty good so me and my wife decided to go there on a sunday night. We came in, had to flag down a waiter to get us a table. Next they sit us in the darkest corner of the whole place. Ok fine, we are there to eat...we order drinks, my wife asks for a straw for her water. Our waiter turns around and throws the straw at her drink. Needless to say, I asked for the bill for the two drinks and we left. No apology from anyone in that place like its no big deal. Wow, I did not realize there was a dimsum place north of Boston, though I should've figured, with Malden's thriving Asian population. The dimsum was actually quite good, though the har cheung were kind of stuck together by the time we came in at around 1 PM. The har gow has masago roe on it--a colorful and unexpected touch, which doesn't make a difference in flavor but points for effort at presentation. The sticky rice chicken was perfect. We didn't have much since we made sure to eat light, but everything that we ordered is as good as we got in Chinatown. The service was very prompt and it's a more intimate setting than you would get at Hei La Moon. Personally, I often feel like those other places can be a little crowded, so intimate is definitely preferable for me. Will definitely be coming again to avoid the tough parking situation and the crowds in Chinatown. read more

This is my favorite dim sum place in Boston area. Food is always fresh and delicious. Some dishes like the beancurd skin wraps are slightly on the salty side, still I can't resist to come back again and again. At the end it's a trade off and I've learnt to compromise. One possible downside is the long waiting time at lunch hours due to the popularity. No reservation is allowed. One way to avoid the crowd is going early. Showing up at around 10:30am in the weekends can almost always guarantee getting seated right away. read more

The table next to us changed their baby's dirty diaper at the table in the restaurant. I asked the waiter to speak with the table and ask them to move to the bathroom. He ignored me. Several people raved to me about the dim sum at Sun Kong. So, I made a special trip on President's Day to enjoy. Food: the standard fare on the carts was very standard; there was nothing special; the variety was well below average and it was not particularly good. In fact I would rate slightly below average. The special order dishes were very slow to come. Our first order, fried squid, came warm (which is a plus). unfortunately, it was a dinner size portion and too salty. We also ordered zha leung (pastry wrapped with a noodle). It came to us eventually, after a very long time. It was cold already though, with the pastry already soggy. The tea was well below average, even for chinese restaurants, where the tea is typically not very high quality. Service: what to say? In most chinese restaurants service is undistinguished at best, and that's not why I go there. Unfortunately at Sun Kong it is even worth than that. You had to pull the information out of the waiters pushing the carts, even in Cantonese. The head waiters did not improve the situation. Did I mention the soggy noodle dish? All in all, I'll work on forgetting this dismal experience as soon as I get off the keyboard. read more

The DJ was hilarious and enthusiastic. I hung my purse on the back of my chair while the rest of my 10 friends sat at the table eating and watching karaoke. I went up to the bar to get a drink and the bartender took forever to help (which I actually didn't care about) and when I returned to my table 15 mins later my purse was gone. I couldn't believe the balls someone had to walk by my table of 10 (which included 3 really big dudes) and nab my purse. Obviously they were good at it and have done it before because they got away with it, but WOW. They even answered my cell when I called (hoping it was taken by "accident"). When the waitress said to me, "Oh. This has happened before". I lost all hope and respect. Of course the place was filled with what looked like ex 80's cons but I didn't want to stereotype. Ehhhhh, I found a one inch sharp piece of of clam shell in my vegetarian lo mein. Obviously, I'm upset that I almost choked on the clam shell, I also hurt my tooth. Maybe more importantly, there was animal products in my vegetarian meal. I want to hope that cross contamination isn't a standard practice here, but it's hard to think otherwise. I went there just for a few drinks at the lounge originally after the gym. The price was right (5.50 per glass) and the service was quick. Went back a few weeks later. I was told (not nicely) where to sit and people yelled to each other in Chinese or Japanese. The guy behind the bar disappeared after I finished the first glass so I had to flag down a waiter to get another glass. I did order the chicken fried rice for about $10..00. It was HUGE,. I then asked him when? as we live in an apartment building and I was watching out the window for the whole time and had seen no car or heard no phone call come in (even on my cell log!). When I asked again, he said "Oh, no we no ring doorbells at night" I was like "Is this a fucking joke?", I inquired as to why they don't believe in ringing the doorbell.... at night, I was told as to not disturb the other people in the apartment...?" I was needless to say furious. I was torn between laughing and screaming at him. I wondered aloud, do these idiots think we all live in the same apartment.... together or something?!! HELLO! there are seperate apartments you know. He refused to send the food over even though we paid by credit card over the phone and mind you this was a $60 order, and at this point I asked to speak to the manager and was told, "He no here", and then was promptly hung up on. We called back again, this time understandably upset, and you guessed it, he hangs up again!. Now, at this point I just want the charge removed from my bill, and I called again to inform him of this and he hangs up a third time!? FInally he picks up and I tell him remove the charge from the bill and says "You no worry, OK", and I'm thinking at this point, if these bozos act like this over the phone, then I am worried ..... about them possibly robbing me now. So I asked them to call me when the driver gets back (He clearly was back by now, hell he was probably there the whole time!). He finally calls me back (More proof there was never a call placed before this one BTW.) and he says "He'll take the charge off" I told him I would come there tomorrow to speak to the manager and he freaks out, "Listen, you NO come here tomorrow, No come here...
