Ordered Yang Chow fried rice and softshell crabs. The crabs did not have the gills aka deadman fingers removed which made dish unpleasant. It is standard prep to remove them as they can contain toxins from the environment. Expensive as the crabs were $70 and they weren't even prepared properly. Rice was nothing special and pieces were hard. Wouldn't recommend since there are so many other better options within a 2 min walk. read more

Chef Kevin even came out to greet us, the manager stopped by, the staff was great (and I could even see they were this way with other tables so not just because of our table being an employee). Food came out very slow too (40 min for some takeaway for 2 guests that joined me) and our dishes took 50 min. On to the food: skip the sushi because the fish quality is wasn't great. Now, here's why I docked stars from this review: - The Peking Duck was just alright, though it felt more like roasted duck to us. This is mainly because of how the duck skin wasn't crispy and, frankly, felt a bit on the rubbery side. Plus, the overall dish didn't seem that fresh. - Speaking of freshness, the Lucky Envelope mocktail was alright for a mocktail, but the Crazy for Coconuts cocktail just felt off - especially with how the pearls didn't feel fresh in this drink, as it felt more powdery and like it was left out for some time. - Lastly, everything seemed pretty overpriced for what we got. This is a great restaurant! It's a bit odd you actually seem to have to enter through the casino but this is a great spot!! The ambience and decor was beautiful and the staff was exceptional!! We got to try a lot of the food options and it was all so delicious!! Some of the food was a bit pricey, but it was all really good!! My favorite was probably the bbq pork which was perfectly cooked and super flavorful, but the chow mein and Peking duck was also good! The chili wontons were pretty spicy but delicious! The shumai and steamed pork bun were great choices if you like dim sum options! Probably the worse meal I have eaten in 12 months. Went for the Peaking Duck special - very disappointed. 90% bone and I think our duck was anorexic - when we commented to the waiter his response was some ducks are skinny!!! Red8 restaurant is located inside Encore, Boston's premier casino! Mind you, the quality of this restaurant makes it stand out on its own. The restaurant is designed so that you can look into the casino and watch people play, while still offering a restaurant feel. We were treated with exemplary service by the staff and were given some of the best dishes! We started off with peking duck, giant grilled oysters, and soft shell crab. the peking duck was some of the best I've had- the skin was perfect, the meat juicy, the wraps a perfect thickness. Oysters were surprisingly huge and flavorful, but was a bit confused about the beans. Soft shell crab was also the best I've ever had. I'm usually not the biggest fan but this was fantastic. The seasonings were perfectly balanced with salt, spice, and umami. The cook/fry was also perfect where the shell still had crisp but also wasn't scratching my throat. For entrees, we had beef tenderloin, honey walnut prawns, pea shoots, and salted fish fried rice. I've never had a Chinese beef dish as high quality as this. Each bite was like a piece of perfectly cooked steak, grilled to medium rare. We barely even had to chew because it was so tender. Honey walnut prawns were crispy and full of meat. The sauce was creamy and a bit acidic for balance. Pea shoots were unassuming but a classic, authentic comfort dish. Lastly, the fried rice. The fish itself was good (and indeed salty like its name) but just a bit unimpressive compared to the other dishes. This was one of the best dining experiences I had in Boston. I just wish it was closer to the city! It's hard to get to without a car but I'm still going back. read more

I was so disappointed when I got my Mongolian beef... This was my FAVORITE DISH to get at Red 8. The beef was super tender and flavorful before. The quality of the beef was like steak. If you look back on my recent photos and compare to my recent trip, you can tell the quality fell off. To charge $31 for a dish that looks like it's from a local corner fast food Chinese restaurant is ridiculous. If I could, I would've went back and requested the dish to be remade lol it was that bad. Red 8 is my favorite restaurant inside of Encore. I highly recommend making a reservation on their website if you decide to come on a weekend. I almost exclusively come here for their Peking Duck, which is unique and hard to find in Boston. It's not served the traditional Chinese way, but has an American fusion twist to it. They also serve a special course menu for Chinese New Year, I highly recommend their Peking Duck tasting for two which comes with six dishes. Of note, it's only available Wednesday to Sunday at certain times. It is a lot of food and you will be full from it and probably have leftovers. The first dish is two pieces of duck wrap that is served ready to eat (traditionally, you would make this yourself). The duck salad is very enjoyable and delicious and comes in an edible bowl. Next are the duck soup and noodles which are also good. My favorite disk is the wok-fried sliced duck since it has the most flavor. The gelato dessert is a great finisher. Go with the mango if you want a lighter dessert or go with the hazelnut for the most sugar. I've also ordered their separate Peking Duck which can come in a half or full portion. This isn't served traditionally either as they don't cut the dish in front of you and just bring the dish out ready to serve with buns and veggies. The Peking Duck doesn't beat China or NYC quality, but it's the best Boston has to offer. It's worth a try if you're never had it before. read more

For the past few months, I've dined here a couple of times. I have tried their Mongolian beef, steamed shrimp & pork shu mai, whole peking duck, sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef, sauteed pea pods, braised tofu, Wagyu beef pot stickers, chicken & salty fish fried rice, Malaysian pineapple shrimp & chicken fried rice. The Mongolian beef was definitely one of my favorite dishes there. The beef was very tender and the dish had the right amount of spice. The shrimp and pork shu mai is definitely a good appetizer. The shu mai were plump and juicy. Although they don't carve the peking duck in front of you, the peking duck is actually really good. I wish they gave us more scallions and cucumbers for the wraps though. The braised tofu, sweet and sour pork, and the chicken and salty fish fried rice were all delicious. On the other hand, the Malaysian pineapple and chicken fried rice was a disappointment. The pineapple chunks were sour and the fried rice was very bland. For drinks, I have tried both the Lucky Envelope and Strawberry Bliss. The Lucky Envelope came with strawberry and lychee puree, mint, lime and soda water. It was pretty good. The Strawberry Bliss was made up of strawberry puree, pomegranate juice, basil and lemon. I didn't really like it. Service is a hit or miss. Sometimes, the waitstaff is very attentive and other times, they are not. Overall, I gave this place a solid four stars. read more

I'm at the Encore Casino in Boston working an event. I had a long day , and didn't want to go off property. I arrived at the entrance, and it took 4-5 minutes to be acknowledged. They were probably only at about 25% capacity. For $28 I got a lots of noodles , a few pieces of chicken, and some random sprouts. The food came out in a shorter time than I waited at the hostess stand, meaning , of course, that it's all precooked. As I type this on my phone, I've yet to hear from any other staff member. NEVER AGAIN. Honestly, I had much better food and service at Shake Shack at lunchtime. read more

This review is for the Peking duck tasting menu. Make sure you reserve ahead of time and also make sure that day has the option available. They don't make the Peking duck every day. Come hungry! It's actually a lot of food. If you're a Wynn rewards casino member, then make sure you check if you have compdollars to use towards your meal. Definitely a great deal for the amount of food even if you're paying full price. The duck is split up into many courses and don't expect to have a person slice up a whole duck in front of you. Each dish is very flavorful and the duck is very juicy. The salad was actually really cool with a fried wonton chip kind of bowl. Definitely not super traditional, but it was great. Probably the most filling thing on the set menu is the noodles. It's a huge serving size! I wish the ice cream could be ordered separately because it was amazing! It's very hard to make fried meat juicy but they've mastered it. The Peking Duck remains the best in Massachusetts. The clams in black bean sauce were made perfectly. The duck was really really delicious! I would say it's a must try. The duck skin is crispy but slightly oily, which was awesome! Making it into a roll by adding some veggie and sauce balanced every thing! The wonton was also delicious, but kinda of spicy. Two things we ordered but not in the picture were a friend rice and eggplant. The portion of the the eggplant was big and delicious. However, the fired rice was not good cause it didn't have any Wok Hei, and only had two shrimp, which is really sad. The service was okay over all. It took a very long time until we got the fired rice, but the waiter/waitress kept checking for us. Only I felt they were too busy and took a long time to refill our tea. The restaurant was busy and quite noisy since it's next to the casino. I would say it's not the best Chinese restaurant in town, but it's worth it to come and try the duck! read more

We ordered the steamed pot stickers , they were okay. We had two vegan dishes with tofu, Lo mein and a veggie dish with Bok Choi, & hot and sour soup. My friend got this desert. On menu it said hazelnut cake, but it's not what you expect from the title. However it is a show stopper presentation. I've been dying to try Red 8 for a while now so I finally visited when my parents came to visit Boston this past weekend. We had to wait at the hostess station for a while as there were no one at the front to greet any customer that enters the door. The service was not very good as our server only stopped at our table to take food orders and to drop off our check; we had to get 3 different individuals just to get refills and extra bowls. One of the bussers was actually the most attentive than our actual server as she saw us looking around at the table while our server was either at the server station or chatting away with his other tables except us. The ambiance at the restaurant was very nice though, and the food tasted great. However, I did find it very odd that the entrees don't come with rice (we ordered Kung Pao Chicken) because it is pretty standard to serve white rice with Asian stir fry entrees. The Peking duck was absolutely delicious but the portion is very laughable for it to be $61 (half order); the full portion would be $119. Overall, our experience at Red 8 was not too great. The roasted duck was horrible. Tasteless and super greasy. (I could have used some soy sause or hoisin sauce) with it. The Mongolian beef was great and so was the red8 combination rice. The oxtail soup was ok. Again, not much taste on the oxtail soup...just clean tasting with potatoes, tomatoes and bits of meaty oxtail. I came here for one dish only - the Peking duck. It's been hard to find one around Boston so I figured to give this spot a try. An order of a whole Peking duck is $88, which is a little pricey but worth it. It came with wraps and two sauces to dip in. The skin was very crispy and the meat was juicy and flavorful. One thing I didn't like was how they stacked one layer of the duck under the first layer (because the plate was small) and it made the skin of the duck underneath not crispy anymore. They could've used a bigger plate or separate to keep the skin crispy. Otherwise, it was delicious and worth trying if you've never had Peking duck before. read more

She was so sweet and phenomenal at her job. We ordered a (large...) assortment of food from the menu. This is a great location inside of Encore Boston Harbor. This review is way way over due, as I was in a quandary over my rating. I frequent this location and really enjoy the cuisine. The issue I was having last year was seating and service. I would go and request a table for one or two people and they would tell me the wait was an hour or so???? I found this ridiculous as the place would be half empty. On more than one occasion there were only six tables with guests and they told be half hour to forty-five minutes for a table. This is totally unacceptable. They blamed staffing. This went on for approximately a year. I am glad to say a few months ago this all changed. I believe they replaced the management. I'm very glad the restaurant is now usually fully packed and seems to rub more smoothly. As for the food. As you would expect the prices are a tad higher than normal being located in a resort. However once you are familiar with the menu, it is easy to enjoy a great meal at a decent price. A few of the things that stand out in my eyes are The Taiwanese spicy beef soup, and believe it or not a glass of watermelon juice. The beef is off the hook as are the veggies. Oh and by all means do not miss the Ho Fun noodles when ordering the soup. This is a large in house made fat rice noodle. Another winner especially for a tourist as somebody on vacation is the house rice served in a pineapple, great for the photographers out there. The restaurant is spotless. The current staff are fabulous, polite and trained well. FYI the main entrance is located inside the casino, however children can enjoy the restaurant by entering from a second entrance thru a locked door located in the hotels main hallway by ringing a doorbell. Parking is still free in the underground garage or valet at hotels main entrance. This is a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday or special occasions. read more
