    Duck noodle soup
    Susan C.

I think this place might be over hyped. The peking duck was good but everything else we order was not. The duck comes with a soup and fried rice. The fried rice was hard. We ordered a congee and it had no flavor. Everything was just bland. This is also a place where you should not expect fast and good service. The dinning area is big but it seems very packed and understaffed.

Why 5 stars? Because apparently I love peking duck so much. --- --- --- When my pal Raj suggested coming here when I was in town for work, I fully trusted him, but also couldn't even remember my last peking duck experience. What did it even taste like? I don't know. But my life was in Raj's hands and sometimes you just have to let others be the pilot. I have to say, I am *ecstatic* we came here. This might be my favorite meal in Chicago to-date. For those weirded out by eating duck, I assure you it just tastes like amazing BBQ chicken. I could not stop eating it. As a matter of fact, I think I could have eaten a second portion - it was that mind blowing. The one word of caution: there's some kind of "end piece" that I don't know the name for that was very gamey and not appetizing at all. So I'd recommend avoiding that. But all of the regular slices? Go crazy, kids. You will not regret it, even if you are not an adventurous eater. By the way, it also comes with rice and a soup, but I did not have time to snap a pic of those because I was too busy having an emotional affair with the duck. Oh and I almost forgot, we started off with a couple of massive eggrolls that were also bad ass. Sun wah, you have my heart.

Duck fried rice, steamed buns, whole duck sliced, shrimp and lobster sauce

With reservations we Celebrated a birthday at the restaurant 12 June, the place was packed however are table was available and we were seated. The restaurant specializes in whole duck specifically and other Asian cuisine. We ordered two whole ducks, duck fried rice, noodles with duck, shrimp and lobster sauce with some drinks from the bar. The restaurant provided some streamed buns with our meals. The duck is AMAZING!! My first bite was some duck , rice and some lobster sauce on a bun, crazy good. The duck is juicy, sweet and not overly salty. Best thing I've eaten this summer. I really like this place. There was an elephant in the room- the case in South Carolina had just ended and some guest in our party were angry about the decision. Sometimes you can pick up on a vibe in a room and emotions take over. For example we needed extra to- go containers for some birthday cupcakes and the restaurant wasn't complying with that request because it wasn't their food. I understood but emotions were expressed because of the time we all live in. But Sun Wah is and that dam duck is worth the trip.

    Peking Duck
    Matthew N.

Recently went to Sun Wah BBQ and had a great experience. We made same-day reservations for four, including pre-ordering the Peking duck, which made the process seamless, especially since weekend lines here can easily spill out onto the street. We ordered the roasted pork, Peking duck, and beef lo mein, and everything came out quickly. The highlight was easily the Peking duck, which was carved tableside right in front of us. Even better, the remaining duck was transformed into soup and fried rice included with the order, a satisfying (and delicious) bonus that made the experience feel complete. The roasted pork was perfectly salty with a crisp exterior, yet not greasy. The lo mein came with a bowl of soup, and while the noodles were a bit different than I expected, the egg noodles were still flavorful and the beef was tender. One standout detail: the chili oil. Most spots keep it fairly mild, but this was hands down the hottest I've ever had, and seriously packed with heat. Completely full and buzzing with lively chatter, it's easy to see why this place has been around for years and remains a local favorite.

Food excellent, service . Wait time to get a table about 30 to 45 min. Food worth the wait and rude server. Part of the experience Enjoy

    Entire roast Pig

Talk about a delicious and authentic experience. Luckily, one of my friends knew that if you called a few weeks ahead of time, you could order an entire roast small pig, which was incredibly delectable. We also got their signature hold duck, which has led to James Beard award winning production. The boa buns were fantastic, in addition to the noodles and the potstickers. I recommend going in a large group, as it allows you to try many more things. Also, their signature cocktails were delicious.

Awesome experience getting duck at Sun Wah. Great deal for all the food you get. The buns are pillowy and delicious, rice was awesome, and soup was the perfect addition to the meal. Service was fine, we were able to sit immediately no reservation Sunday around 5:30.

Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had. I'm not big into American Chinese food so I was excited to come here to try some more authentic Chinese foods. We got so much but the winner here was the duck! It was so moist and delicious. Portions were huge so there's plenty of food! Served family style; plenty of space for people to find a spot to eat. Looking forward to returning!

    Beef chow fun
    Debangana S.

We went to Sun Wah for dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the spacious seating - getting a table without a wait was easy. We started with the Ginger Cosmic, a ginger-based non-alcoholic cocktail, along with a Tsingtao beer. For food, we ordered the stir-fried baby bok choy, roast duck on rice, and beef chow fun. The cocktail was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the bok choy was well-seasoned and came with a generous portion of white rice. The roast duck on rice was a standout, and the beef chow fun was equally satisfying. The portions were enormous, so even between two people, we couldn't finish everything. Service was quick, and the staff were helpful throughout the meal. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience.

We went for the Peking Duck and were not disappointed. Ordered several other items but forgot to take pictures. The duck was delicious. Very flavorful with crispy skin. We also had the Beef Chow Fun which was equally delicious. I would go back just for that. Helpful staff. Large dining area. Could see it being a little noisy on a busy night. Make sure you reserve your Peking Duck.

    Combo, Bbq Pork Fried Rice
    Celeste M.

Got the combo with chicken, duck, and pork. As well as the BBQ pork fried rice. Good portions, fresh, and carved right there. Super spacious area in the Vietnamese part of town. Never had been here before, and was happy I got to try something outside of the usual Chinatown spots. Lots of options on the menu, would love to get more things to try next time. Service was quick.

Great food. Great service. Location is huge. I love their duck and their crispy roasted pork over white rice. Food is pretty cheap. I didn't order it this time but the bbq pork is also very good. When I was younger I would go here all the time now that I live further away we don't go as often. The food is excellent.

    Nazia C.

I've been coming here for so many years and I realized I've never submitted a review! Obviously, they are known for their roast duck and their special menu item is the roast duck experience. I've had that and it's great, but my go to has always been the bbq duck and bbq chicken on rice. It comes out quick, it's affordable, and it's filling. They also include bok choy and half of a boiled egg. Their house chili sauce is the best. It's full of flavor and perfectly spicy!

MingHin was packed, loud, and a little chaotic. Worth it. Dim sum is an experience as much as a meal and MingHin delivers on both fronts. We ordered more than we could keep track of. Soup dumplings that immediately became the kids' personal obsession. Shu mai that hit every time. BBQ pork buns in every form they offered because obviously. Chinese broccoli to balance out the indulgence. Everything was solid, fresh, and exactly what you want from a dim sum spread. The room was packed and buzzing but the service kept up impressively. Servers were constantly circling, clearing empty plates and dishes without missing a beat. Clean and attentive even at full capacity, which is no small thing. Fair warning if you are bringing little ones: this environment is a lot. The noise, the crowd, the overwhelming parade of food arriving at the table. Our kids loved what they ate but the sensory experience was a bit much for them. This is a place better suited for a group of adventurous adults or older kids who thrive in high energy environments. Prices are great for the quality and quantity of food you get. A Chinatown institution for good reason. Just know what you are walking into and embrace it fully.

Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table, or share a big one with another party at peak times. Some favorites: beef cheong fun with egg, siu mai, Singapore noodle, xo rice noodle rolls, spare ribs, pork and century egg congee. All the food has been very solid. Inside is always bustling and can be a bit crowded. Service is pretty friendly as far as Chinatown goes, and very efficient. There's a guy who works there who I think is the manager or something, because he puts in 200x effort and is always hustling. When he's not around it feels like something is missing. Prices are very reasonable and we like ordering a lot here so that we have tasty leftovers for later. This place has quite a few big tables and is good for large groups. My only nits are that very occasionally a dish or teacup will have a dirty spot, and that the bubble tea here is kind of meh. I don't remember exactly which one I ordered, but it was a little watery and lacking in flavor. It's also probably tough since they're boxed in by boba places now. Pro tip: When you first get your table, they'll ask you what kind of tea you want. If you ignore them or don't know how to answer, the default is green tea. Another one is to come at off-peak times. Not only will you get a table faster, but I think they tweak their portion sizes depending on how crowded it is. Definitely will be back! And I recommend you visit too

Communication was a challenge since very little English was spoken, and the descriptions of the dishes were lacking. I don't enjoy gambling on menu titles that sound good but end up being something completely different from what you expect. Some of the more familiar dishes were solid. The Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef were both pretty good and tasted like what you'd expect from most Chinese restaurants. Other dishes were much harder to understand, even after asking questions about how they were prepared or whether they were sweet or savory. We ordered the Sauteed Chicken in Hot Spicy Sauce Rice, which turned out to be very heavy on Sichuan peppercorns with a strong floral aftertaste. The chicken sat on a bed of what looked and tasted like deep-fried kale, and despite the word "rice" in the name, there was no rice in the dish at all. That's one item we won't be ordering again. We also tried the Fish Filet with Hot and Sour Lime Sauce. It was basically a sweet-and-sour style fish dish. It wasn't bad, but it leaned much sweeter than expected. Another thing to note: none of the dishes come with white rice--it's completely à la carte. We only found that out after ordering. With prices being what they are these days, it would be nice if they included at least some white rice like most Chinese restaurants do. Overall, the food wasn't terrible, but the lack of clear descriptions and communication made the experience frustrating. I prefer restaurants where expectations are clear rather than discovering surprises after the food arrives.
