Cute and clean! Friendly hostess at Reception, the paint is fresh and the whole thing feels like Grandma's backyard. The rooms, too, are small but charmingly decorated. Not your cookie-cutter corporate chain motel. Just 2 short blocks to Embarcadero's shops and restaurants, but also on Main St. for cheaper local options. Best detail: brand-new modern shower heads!! Flexible long spout with adjustable stream options--no acupuncture-style motel torture devices, or clogged-up fog machines that wet the walls more than your head. People, listen up!!!! If you need an inexpensive getaway near the beach.... THIS MOTEL IS FOR YOU!!! All the great reviews can't possibly be true, right?? Wrong! This IS a great bargain. The rooms ARE super clean, the beds ARE super comfy and the rooms ARE small but adequate! No lies here!!! We spent less than $50 per night. The place was super quiet, which I didn't think was going to be possible considering the parking area is in the middle of the little complex. But we slept very well all night long. The room had a wall heater and a neat digital a/c unit, both worked nicely. I had the plague that was going around and had chills but was able to stay comfortable. The staff is awesome. They're constantly cleaning and fixing things; upkeep is a noticeable priority. When we were there they were fixing cracks in the parking lot. This motel is right in the heart of Morro Bay. We had a view of the rock from our front door. My husband walked to the a little north of the motel, a block or two... Got me coffee at a coffee shop me every morning. You just can not beat this place if you're not set on a luxury stay. It's simple, clean, convenient and inexpensive. There's also a grocery store a few blocks away. My daughter and I do mother/daughter trips here every year. Ann and Ta run an amazing place! It's always clean and homey feeling and both go out of their way to accommodate their guests needs. I've seen comments about their wi-fi being weak and it makes me laugh. Number one, who cares! I come to Morro Bay for vacation, not to play on my phone. Time with my daughter is more precious to me than occasional weak internet. Number two, Clean rooms, microwaves, and a fridge in every room are far more important than wi-fi! The lady that runs the front desk here is absolutely amazing. She's always friendly and able to help with my needs. The rooms are always clean and the sheets and towels are always fresh. They care about their guess you could tell by the little things in the room down to the little tiny tea cups. What a wonderful establishment! This family run inn has the care and attention to detail of a bed a breakfast but with the convenience and privacy of a motel. Located in a quiet neighborhood, both the downtown shops and boardwalk area are quick walks away. Past all of the shops, you are right on the state beach as well! The location was close to everything So you could walk to the stores, restaurants, wharf, etc. I only used the car to go to Montana de Oro State Park. My husband and I and another couple stayed at this small Inn in Morro Bay for 1 night in Mid April. After doing some research about the best budget inn that's in good location (near the waterfront) in Morro bay and comparing prices, we opted to make a reservation here via a travel-agent website and got a good rate of $74/night including tax for a queen room. My friends (the other couple) paid about $10-15 more for a king room. Checking in was FAST and EASY and SIMPLE. This is a small (there are only about 16-17 rooms), independently owned motel ran by the owner. We met the wife and she was a very friendly lady and it was apparent that she put her feminine touch to the property. The front of the motel was green and colorful with the variety of plants, very well manicured, very cute. We peeked into our friends' room and it's identical in style with the exception of the different type of flowers (plastic) in the room and the size of the bed (because they paid for a king size). Each room comes with microwave,coffee maker, fridge, chest drawers, a small table and chairs for seating. The rooms were very clean and each also comes with a fairly large closet! There are free coffee that you can make yourself. There is no tub in the bathroom but the shower is clean and newly remodeled. It is a bit tight but it is functional. They just installed Air Conditioner and during our stay it was not operational yet, though there was a fan in the room that we used at night (we placed it on the table by the window so that it would blow cooler air into the room). The temperature does cool down at night, so if you're not much of an Eskimo (like us), you may not even need the fan. The bed was VERY comfortable and we had a great restful sleep and did not get bothered by any noises during our stay (despite the fact that we slept with the windows wide open). There is a thick curtain that would block the sunlight and made sleeping even more enjoyable. We did try the FAMOUS MAGIC FINGER ... put a quarter into the machine and it would shake the bed for about 15 minutes...very funny! ahahahahah! When you get to your room the first time, make sure that you check the plugs... They unplug the appliances, lamps and magic finger in our room. We first did not realize it but later figured it out ha! It is NOT a modern hotel but the price, the cleanliness as well as the location (we walked to the waterfront/marina very easily) and the simplicity make this place a bang for your bucks to stay at Morro Bay. I think they do charge extra for weekend stays and also during busier months (just like any other neighboring motels and hotels). We will definitely stay here again if we come back to visit Morro Bay! read more

If a motel were to cross with a bed and breakfast (just minus the breakfast part and in a motel setup with a throwback to the 70's), this would be it. Cutely decorated with a homey touch. Far more charming than you would expect from a basic motel. Although not cheap at $79 a night, probably one of the best deals in Morro Bay on the weekend between Christmas and NYE. Our main complaint was the thin walls. We were woken up early with one of our neighbors complaining loudly (and at length) of how ridiculous the place was to not have an iron or blow dryer and how guests outside her room had woken her up. How ironic, thanks lady. On the quirky plus side, the place has a "miracle touch" vibrating bed which for 25 cents (and yes we tried it) the whole bed will shake- mostly like it's next to some running generator. If you care about your hair- we'd would also advise bringing your own conditoner, the place has "eurowash" a gel that triple duties as soap/body wash/shampoo. read more

Sofie loves this place and so do I! You will get to meet Ann if you stay here. She is rather amusing with her cheerful and thorough attention to details. Behind the simile is passion in her voice and the sense of importance of the moment... kind of like my 3rd grade teacher when she said, "Steven, you will be advancing the the 4th grade!"... only Ann would say, "Here's the key to your room!" You know when you walk into a motel room - of an old motel - and there is "that smell" of thousands of people who have previously been there? Well, there was no smells at all... the greatest sensory overload came from my ears and eyes of hearing Sofie say, "I love this place!" and the sight of her jumping up and down. (She didn't really jump up and down... I made that part up... but everything else is true!) This is a really old motel - but Ann's family (They have owned this place for 30 years) really take good care of the place. The shower is very nice... now Sofie wants one just like it at our house!! The experience of staying there is the motel experience form 30 years ago... you can hear slamming car doors and people walking by your room. I didn't mind so much because they seemed like nice people. Oh... the Magic Fingers! Sofie never heard of "The Magic Fingers" so when I dropped the quarter into the Magic Finger box on our bed she thought we were having an earthquake... then she thought something was wrong with our bed... until I explained the wonders of "The Magic Fingers". I explained that for 25 cents we could enjoy 15 minutes of a relaxing massage. She thought 15 minutes was a little long... and she said that my magic fingers are superior to the magic fingers from the little box. When we left, Sofie went to get a post card to send to Alex - but when she went to pay, Ann said, "The postcard is free for you!" Sofie was touched. We look forward to coming back. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this little roadside motel! A great value for the money. The owners were very helpful and provided me with the quiet room I asked for, since this was a work/play trip. The bed was comfortable, the linens were crisp and clean, and there was not a speck of dust anywhere. The furnishings are old and a bit run-down, but the Wi-Fi and TV worked perfectly and so did the blackout curtains! Newer windows and air conditioner made my stay even better. This place is so so so cute. Morro Bay has a certain sleepy charm to it and this was a great place that matched a relaxing sweet vibe the place had to offer. For a really amazing honest price, you get the amenities of insta-brew coffee, microwave, a fridge and an old school massaging bed. But what's hands down refreshing and worth mentioning that beats other places- is that the basic needs are excelled which is so wonderful when you've been traveling and you're so tired: a really clean place to sleep and an amazing clean bathroom. The inn, although you can tell it's been around for a while, does not have an older musty smell, the bathroom is spotless, amazing hot water and pressure for the shower, and clean everything :). One thing that I didn't enjoy was hearing the screaming and playful kids as they destroyed the outside. But that can't be helped because I never heard them when they were in their room! Ann is really sweet. She was the person who greeted us and in the morning she was cleaning the rooms. Even my partner commented that when we were turning in our key she asked us "everything ok?" like our mom would when they greet us in the morning.. Such a great family owned joint :). The owner of this hotel should buy new linens because the ones they're using are old already and not white anymore, something like grayish color. Room is small and pricey. I found this place online. I called and the owner Ann was beyond wonderful. Gave me an even better price than the online price. Room was super cute and extremely clean. Fabulous location to the bay. I slept like a baby, the bed was totally comfortable. Has a cute table and chairs to sit at while you eat or need to do some work or place cards. By far the best deal in Morrow Bay. This Inn was much more than Marty & I expected on our quest for retirement places to live pre-Thanksgiving 2013 by 2 weeks. I truly have a love for people like Ann & her family and, their family owned & operated business; Ann & her husband came to the USA from Taiwan 30 years ago, took out a loan, bought this place, which was in total disarray and floundering according to her (we saw the before pictures-she was right!) story and they made the American dream come true for them, not to be wealthy, but rich in the results of hard work and THE dream that they had hoped & prayed for many years in the making is now a reality of long standing. WE are coming back, and when we do, this is the only place we will stay. ============================================================= From the day we spoke to Ann and booked our room a month in advance, we were told the rates, the senior discount of $10 off per day for me, (now Marty too when we go back since he just turned 55!) until we arrived, the communication & accommodations were note worthy most assuredly! We stayed, 8 days & 7 nights (Saturday-Th following Sunday, and for the 2 of us the rates with the discounts were, $59 per day Monday-Thursday & $69 per day Friday-Sunday; these were the off season rates too that run September through March. When we arrived, we found ample parking in a very secure lot and nice part of Morro Bay, at check in, Ann was very kind, even upgraded us to another room (#15) where our bedroom was not against another room, had a brand new mattress, that was from Costco, that was like sleeping on a cloud, three layers of pure comfort-we were even able to see The Morro Bay rock from our room! Ann, made recommendations for places to eat, merchants stores etc., the discounts we'd get by showing we stayed at her establishment and, the room was just perfect with all of the amenities, the mini fridge, was large, a microwave, coffee maker, large flat screen TV, a dresser that had more room than we needed for our clothes, and we always over pack; the be bedside tables were great as was the dining table in front of our window. Nice roomy bathroom and a shower, even had soft water here which is great on our skin and on my weave, now that's an extra star right there! A vanity table where I could prep & primp and a huge closet for our clothing etc. with plenty of hangers; ice machine just a small distance away and we BOTH couldn't have been treated nicer; Ann knew we were a couple and wanted us to be comfortable during our stay on this much needed get away for ourselves. Ann & her family do everything here, her husband and their 3 children, clean the rooms, beds, the laundry, I mean it it, you name it they do it and, if you need anything she came by every evening or called to insure that all of our needs were being met. Look, I've have stayed at some very upscale hotels in suites touting their decadence and didn't get this type of accommodating special touch at many of them. Just perfect, adorable, charming quaint, wonderful owners and much better than the other places we looked over prior to coming and, for less money we got much more, a motel, that was 5 Star hotel status worthy. An adorable privately owned motel an at unreasonably good price. Total for the night after tax was $44 and change! Hubby and I spent our honeymoon travelling up and down Hwy 1 hitting locally owned, out of the way oddities and this is definitely one of my favorites. The room was perfectly clean and eclectically decorated-it was like a doily factory exploded. They use honest to goodness keys-real physical keys! Our magic fingers didn't work, which was slightly disappointing, but the pocket sized butter yellow bathroom was super cute and completely spotless. There's fast food nearby for a late night snack. If you're looking for somewhere safe and clean to crash and want something with more personality than a chain hotel then this is your jam. During vacation, all I ever ask for is to stay at a CLEAN, SIMPLE, and AFFORDABLE place and Sundown Inn hits the spot! For the price, cleanliness, service, and the friendly owners, YES I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. Sundown Inn has all the simple amenities I need for a room. I could even go for a room with no TV/Cable/Internet. You don't need to watch TV or go online when you're on vacation but it is a plus for people who do. We were very close to a lot of restaurants and the bay, which made me happy. We were barely in our room but when we were we had no complaints whatsoever... Besides the usual- drawers, tables, mirrors, closet, queen bed, bathroom amenities the room came with a mini fridge, microwave, television with cable, wi-fi, and something called Magic Fingers (25 cents to turn on- never tried it but now I wish I did!). Booked this place at the last minute and was a bit nervous because it's a budget motel, but absolutely could not have been happier with it. Immaculately clean, and much lovelier and more updated than your standard motel room. It's clear that the owner has pride in the place and takes immense care to make everything nice and cozy. The bathroom shower was also nicely tiled (way beyond your typical budget motel setup), and the place was quiet. Absolutely do not hesitate to stay here--we will the next time we're in Morro Bay. (I liked this place even more than the much more expensive hotel room we'd booked for a previous stay.) A big thank you to the owner/proprietor, who is also a very nice woman.
