What a wonderful little inn that is affordable! Owner was very nice and personable. Room was very cute with a wood beam ceiling and bathroom was super clean with big thick towels (not the usual flimsy motel type). Wifi worked great! and when we left our iPad charger behind, I emailed Ann and she took the time to bubble-wrap, pack it and send it UPS; we received it by Tues after a weekend stay. We will definitely be staying here again when we visit Morro Bay!! read more

The room is very clean and well maintained. I was surprised and happy to see organic lotion and shampoo provided to us. The shower head is the best part.. In so many hotels stays this one was the best. I just wished if at such high room cost, breakfast could have been included.. It gets difficult when you are short of time and have to start early. We stayed 2 nights before the Memorial Day weekend. I always am leery of 5 star hotel reviews, especially in tourist towns. I tried to find something wrong with the room and could not. Simple, spotless clean, inside the room and out. Nothing dated or worn. The owner Ann is a delightful person , very helpful and seemed surprised that we did not want maid service to change the linens overnight. By the looks of the plants outside someone has a green thumb. Beautiful! I have stayed in hundreds of hotels in my life and this is as nice a room as I hoped for. Very friendly staff, clean and crafty-looking rooms. For instance, we stayed in the sunflower room: sunflower wall trim, bouquets of plastic sunflower above the beds and vanity. The exposed ceiling beams were the best part of the room. And I'm pretty broken up about not having time to try the magic fingers bed--15 mins for a quarter! My only complaint about the stay is that the walls are much too thin. I basically woke up with a neighboring Chinese family at 6 in the morning. Luckily, I brought earplugs. read more

The Sundown Inn is like those old school motels your grandparents used to take you to back in the day when you would drive across country. The Sundown Inn is in a great location and is family owned. It is within walking distance from downtown and the waterfront, but far enough away that you don't get the noise of cars and people. For the amazing price of $74, we got room 9. It consisted of a full size bed and a twin bed for our daughter. Although, I must admit that a full size bed isn't the best thing for two adults. lol Our room was nicely decorated. It came with a tv, fridge, and microwave. There is no air conditioning, but there is a heater. It was nice to be in our room and leave the door open. I noticed a lot of other guests doing this as well. The bathroom looked like it was newly remodeled. Although, the shower door was kind of small. I think it is best to soap up and then walk through the door. lol Overall, a good value and a good location. read more

We stayed here one night, but will definitely come back. We had never visited or heard of Morro Bay prior to this road trip. Staying at the sundown inn was a nice experience. The front desk receptionist, which I think is the Owner was so nice. She welcomed us to the city, which is such a nice gesture. She gave us a magazine or things to do and gave us advice and hours of restaurants around here. She really went out of her way to make us feel at home. The rooms are so cute. They reminded me of my grandmas house. Very cozy and lots of flower decor. I'm more of a modern type person but this was a nice change. The beds have this massage feature for only 0.25 cents. I wasn't a fan, but it was fun for the first few minutes lol. The walls are thin, but so are most small hotels. Thankfully our neighbors weren't crazy loud. The hotel is just a five minute walk to the beach and the beach shops. We loved our stay and will def see them again next time we're here. Oh and the price was very reasonable. read more

This is a great little place to say in Morro Bay. Very clean and tidy little room with some attention to actual decor and upkeep. No big multi-story complex to have to drag your bags around. Easy walking distance to the main drags. Attentive and pleasant owners, not some chain with zombie receptionist just working a summer job. Our room was small but very nicely appointed with a small flat screen, little microwave, small programmable Mr. Coffee, fridge and very respectable secured WiFi that worked right away with the listed password. Bed was very comfy and had the funky retro magic fingers (that we did not try, but it made me smile nonetheless). Nice little fan provided some airflow instead of having to open the window and have a nighttime security issues (which didn't seem likely, btw, regardless). I have no idea what the Tripadvisor review I saw was talking about when they mentioned strange Asian deco. Sounds racist, as there was nothing remotely "ethnic" about the decor. Just neat and clean with some flowery bits that the Inn's pictures very faithfully show. No surprises or misleading pix here. And, got a killer Internet deal of $59/night, for a 2 person single Queen. No online rez, so you must call, but very quick and easy as phone rez goes. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice little affordable place to stay in Morro Bay. Especially for walking the area. Extremely fastidious, family-run and owned place. Clean, tidy, and quiet. There isn't much to say about a small motor hotel, but this one is slightly off the beaten path, but within walking distance to everything. Room is clean, and roomy enough for a motel room, with a queen bed, small desk/makeup table and coffee table. Shower stall is 50's style smallish, with the original porcelain tile - in excellent condition. The owners were helpful but quiet. The room has a fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Four stars for a motel, but it would get 2 stars if it were a Ritz Carlton - does that make sense? read more

This place was a pleasant surprise. We stopped here for a night on our drive up along PCH with a friend and this place served our priorities well - cheap and clean. The beds were tidy and the bathroom was in a clean, good condition. And then of course, there is the magic fingers bed...pretty noisy, but definitely a unique feature! Heating worked ok in keeping the room warm, but the gas heater made some rather unnerving noises at night, which made me wake up multiple times. I have stayed in better places in the area, but also paid almost double. So, you definitely get excellent value for money here. read more

Very clean room (even the bathroom nooks and crannies), I was surprised by the super-comfortable sheets; even the towels were better than you usually find at an inexpensive motel. The price was great, perhaps because it was off season and mid-week; even so it was less expensive than other motels in the area. The staff was very nice. When I called ahead to ask about rates and availability I was told the rate for a room with one bed, but didn't make a reservation bc I was only a half hour away. When I arrived, that room was gone, but they honored the same price for a larger room (as long as I only used one of the beds). I only stayed for the evening on my way up the coast, but it was the kind of place that made me say "next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely stay here again". read more

My family and love this place - we've stayed more than once. Aside from the most obvious primary selling points, price (I think I recall it being about $50 on off weekdays and $70 on the weekend, off season) and town (Morro Bay, so relaxing), the Sundown is simply a nice place to stay. First off, it's a "Motel" in the classic sense: rows of adjacent rooms with your parking right outside your room. Very convenient for the bag situation. Mini-fridge and microwave. Awesome for leftovers from the many great food joints within walking distance. Literally two blocks down to the boardwalk right at the Aquarium. The rooms are cozy and they're in the process of remodeling - I stayed both the "pre"model and the "re"model. Although the new rooms are really cute, I don't remember thinking they were run down when I stayed last time! At any rate, they're perfect for a couple or, like us, a couple with a little one. Be sure to bring soap and shampoo if you're picky - they provide a 3-in-1 shampoo/soap/body wash in dispensers in the shower and by the sink but no "little hotel soaps" or things like that. Speaking of the remodel, don't be surprised if there's some demo noise during business hours. That being said, it was quiet as a church on the lot after about 5 PM or so and we were coming back from breakfast before we heard the workers in the morning. The times we were in during the day, the noise wasn't overpowering or constant and the owners worked to keep their guests as far across the property as possible. And don't let me forget to mention the owners! I've only met the missus, but she was so sweet and kind. We got there before noon and, since our room was already empty, she handed us our key and walked the towels out to us as we unpacked. Oh, and they have adjoining rooms if you need them. We asked because we want to bring the kids' grandparents next trip. Hopefully sooner rather than later, Thanks so much for having us! read more

The rates here are very affordable, but the quality is priceless. I have never seen such a spotless hotel bathroom. The water pressure was fantastic, too! This place has the basic comforts -- mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, TV. There's a hair dryer in the bathroom. Although the Magic Fingers in the room I stayed in did not work, the bed was incredibly comfortable. Definitely planning to stay here again next time. read more

The led screen on the ac was really bright and we couldn't get it to dim. The window shades need to be updated to something that blocks out more light from outside. We loved our stay at the Sundown Inn. The decor has a country charm and most importantly, it was super clean and the beds were comfortable. We came by bicycle from SLO, and they were fine with us keeping our bikes in our room (which fit into the large closet in our room). I booked a room at this motel for my boyfriend and I at a very inexpensive price! It was only $78 total for the night. It was such a great place to stay and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cheap, clean, and comfortable motel to stay at. I give this place 5 stars for all the reasons you'll read about in other reviews. I'm writing this to talk about the Wi-Fi issue which others have complained about, and I experienced problems too; until I fixed it myself! Yes the Wi-Fi signal here is spotty, that is common in hotel rooms. The speed is not fast enough to stream Hulu or Netflix. I hooked up my Roku device and was not able to watch my shows, because the Wi-Fi signal is not fast enough; so I did some research. What solved the problem for me was to create a "Mobile Hotspot" and connect to the new network that you create. Here's how to do it: On your phone enable "mobile hotspot" which will create a network with it's own password. Now go to your laptop, look for that network name and enter the new password. Now hook up your Roku or other device to the TV via an HDMI cable (preferably) and connect to that same network using the new password as well. When you go to your favorite channel you may have to do an additional step and "activate" the channel through another sign-in process which can be done on your laptop; just follow the instructions. That's it! Hope that helps all the weary vacationers out there who just want to kick back after a long day of traveling and watch their favorite shows like they were at home. Good Luck! read more

Very clean ,quaint little hotel! Staff was very friendly and accommodating, considering we arrived after 10 PM. Rooms are just as described, they have almost everything you need. No ironing board or iron in room, but they will bring you a counter top board and iron, upon request. Cable worked great, TV and bed were perfect. The heater in the room took a few minutes to warm up, so just be patient. The location is perfect! The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is: it is a little overpriced and parking is limited. Originally made reservations, directly with hotel, for the Friday night of the Oyster festival, Ann explained it was an event weekend so the AAA rate was $159. It was a little higher than what I had read on Yelp , but no biggie. When I called (2 weeks before arrival date) to change reservations for later in the month, the rate only dropped by $10. We booked directly with the hotel and paid $149 for a Friday night, no holiday or special event weekend. Maybe poor planning or researching on my end, but I wanted to book directly with hotel. So maybe this place is worth booking through a third-party site. Would definitely stay there again (at a lower rate), also staff was super friendly! read more

The Sundown Inn is my family's new favorite place to stay in Morro Bay. The owners are very friendly, and keep the place in great shape. The room was very clean, and we could tell that there is a lot of pride in ownership in the details around the whole place. I'm a stickler when it comes to noise such as footsteps from the room above me or doors slamming, and had no complaints here. It's a single story motel, and the walls are well insulated with dual pane windows to keep the noise out. If I had to choose the main reason why I would rank this place among the best, I would have to say it's Ann - one of the owners. She had such a great personality, and kindness that made us feel welcome, and wanting to come back for another trip. She treated our kids like a grandma would, and they loved every bit of the extra attention! read more

Another hidden gem in morrow bay. Walked in without a reservation and the owner offered us a room for $80 (thurs) and $99 instead of $120 (fri and sat) as the AAA rate. The lovely owner showed us a couple rooms to choose from. The one we choose had sunflowers and a flat screen tv on the wall, a walk in closet, mini fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, microwave, movable desk fan, free wi-fi and of coarse the massaging bed. The bathroom shower looked small, but was spacious with good water pressure. The towels were not thin. The sheets were clean. It looks like they used a towel service to clean their linens. The owner is a wonderful lady that walks the property and greets everyone and makes sure that they are comfortable. The only area that could be improved is the carpet was dirty. It was not stained, just seemed like it needed a good deep cleaning. The room was a non smoking room and it was wonderful to not smell like smoke or of cleaning chemicals! One night the hotel was extremely full and it was still quiet. It is a 5 min walk to the waterfront and restaurants. We will be coming back again. read more

I've been meaning to get to this review for a while now. We arrived late at night, the woman was friendly and eager to help. The couple in the room next to ours was friendly and the parking lot is nicely decorated with well maintained potted plants all the way around. We stayed here for a week and a half. It's two blocks from the bay, close enough to most everything in town that it's only a short walk to anywhere, restaurants, coffee, bars or liquor stores. We came here from a 5 star hotel in San Fransisco, and were more impressed with this little mom & pop motel. There was an abundance of fresh towels any time we wanted them, a large enough closet and plenty of drawers to put away all of our clothes so we weren't living out of our suitcases, and we had a dining table, a fridge, a microwave and a coffee pot (none of which were available at the 5 star hotel!). FOR THE COMPLAINTS OF THE SIZE OF THE FRIDGE AND MICROWAVE: It's a motel room, not an apartment or a suite. The fact that they even had them and they were CLEAN is good enough for us. The couple who own the place do all the maid work themselves, and smile and wave with happy hellos any time they see you, always offering fresh towels or sheets. I deducted a star from an otherwise 5 star review for two reasons. Firstly, the walls are paper thin, and secondly the parking spaces don't seem to be equal to the number of rooms. We happened to be here over a holiday weekend, and the place was full up. We never had to park on the street, but it was a concern several times. This was also the only time that the thin walls were an issue. The motorcycle riding couple next to us over the weekend were our biggest complaint. Overall, an excellent stay. I wanted to find the friendly little woman to thank her for the stay, and say goodbye, but unfortunately couldn't see her anywhere, and so I got into the car to take off. While we were playing with the GPS, there came a tap on the window, and there she was. She gave me a tiny little gift back and told us it was a gift for us for our long stay. It was a nice magnet of Morro Rock. Bottom line: next time we're in the area, I know where we'll be staying. read more

I picked this place based on what others have said about Sundown Inn, and was extremely pleased! This is probably the best independently owned little motel I have ever stayed in. The owner was a very sweet lady and sincerely cared about our stay. She's always walking around doing things and whenever she saw me, she asked how everything was. The rooms are decorated nicely with lots of cute little items you don't normally see in a motel room giving it some great personal touches. Grounds are extremely clean and very well maintained. Lots of fresh paint, potted plants about, and everything is very neat. It's only a few blocks from the waterfront and only one block walking distance from a great little local bar if you want to have a few drinks and pizza in the evening. read more

This motel is certainly a 'gem' of a place to stay in Morro Bay. My wife and I went over to Morro Bay for a quick 'personal celebration' and to escape the Bakersfield heat. The owner Ann (as has been mentioned by nearly every review) was very friendly, personable and helpful, and actually 'cared' about making our stay the best possible. She answered all of our questions easily, recommended places to eat and/or shop as we had need, and exceeded any expectations we might have had of a hotel owner/manager. The rates were very reasonable, the rooms clean, adequately furnished (coffee maker, LED TVs, fridge, hair dryer, etc.), and comfortable. Although this was our first impression on our first stay, we plan to return, and we plan to sty here again! read more
