He had to explain to us several times what we were ordering, as our western ears strained to capture through his thick accent. Communication was finally struck and so too an understanding. Our order placed, we found a corner table and settled in. It wasn't beyond our sensing, that us four were the strangers in this land. All the more appealing. It wasn't but for a few short minutes before our first dish found its way to the table. Now, before I go further, I have to warn you that I can't remember, much less, begin to pronounce the names of these items. I can only describe and tell you that they were all fantastic. Our first selection, was a platter of these crunchy puffed things. Our server explained, (a couple of times lol), how we are supposed to handle these delicate bites. "Punch a hole and put water in." We knew that he meant sauce, so that's what we did. Boy was that water ever tasty. Next were the Samosas. Yes, I know. I remembered that name. But only because my daughter kept saying get the Samosas, daddy, get the Samosas. I did, and I conquered. They didn't last long. Next up, fried spinach things. Those may have been the best of all. But wait, there's more....boy was there ever. The big dogs hit the table in short order. A giant crepe pancake stuffed with onion and potato, a spicy rice dish, and lastly a noodle dish. I hadn't so much as ordered and sat in a booth to look at my phone to waste some time when I was told my food was ready. Either Surati has the fastest chefs in the city or my food was not made to order -- and I certainly didn't experience the 'extras' other Yelpers describe. Not wanting to get into it, I paid and left. I came home to a generous amount of well-seasoned biryani rice and vegetables with just enough heat to let you know you're alive but not so much as to wreck your mouth. I took the W. Disappointing Experience at Jamicaway - 9/18/2026…read more My wife visited Jamicaway today, September 18, 2026, at approximately 10:22 AM and ordered her usual large spicy jerk chicken. We have been customers for years and have generally enjoyed the food and service, so what happened today was especially disappointing. While her order was being prepared, one employee had already placed chicken on the plate. Another employee came from behind the counter, went to the plate, and removed some of the better pieces of chicken that had already been selected. She then replaced them with pieces that appeared to be much lower quality, containing significantly more bones and less meat. My wife asked why the chicken was being removed from her plate, and the employee responded that the previous employee had done it incorrectly. While mistakes can happen, we were very disappointed with the way the situation was handled and, especially, with the attitude displayed toward my wife. As a longtime customer, I believe customers should receive the same quality of food and level of respect regardless of who is preparing the order. Removing the better pieces of chicken from an already prepared plate and replacing them with pieces containing considerably more bone and less meat did not leave us with a good impression. That said, I will not allow one bad experience to stop me from supporting Jamicaway. We have been coming here for years, and I hope this was simply an isolated incident. I would encourage management to look into what happened and remind staff about proper customer service and maintaining consistent food quality. We enjoy supporting local restaurants, and hopefully our next visit will be a much better experience.

But the food and drinks were still served in a timely manner. I won't hold this against the entire establishment since this wasn't my experience at my hometown location. The area is walkable and fun. Very young and gives a hipster vibe.
