I am a vegetarian. Having this type of option is awesome, but I have two suggestions for the crew at Sunflower Cafe to make this a five star experience. First, please, please, please, season your food a bit more. I am happy to see that there are salt shakers on the tables now, but I hate the fact that I have to use them. Just because this is a vegetarian or vegan meal doesn't mean that it has to be bland. I am sitting here noshing on Buffalo Tofu Sliders and I am salting and adding sauce to it. These should sing with flavor, like Pavarotti at the Met. The green beans are dull, and the quinoa salad is bland, bland, bland. For 15.00 for a cafeteria style lunch, I really expect to go WOW, instead of where is the salt? Second. I understand that organic food prices are high, but 15.01 for a drink and these tiny portions are ridiculous. I appreciate healthy portions, but this just seems a little cheap. Just go up one scoop size and I'd be happy. I'm not looking for a huge lunch, if I wanted that I would go to The Palm. i really don't want this to come off as a negative review, but rather a couple of suggestions to make your space jump off the map. I love 90% of what you make, and it's not your fault that I don't like curry. Have such a wide selection of fresh vegetarian food is A+. If you are looking for fresh real food, no processed garbage this is the place, just make sure you find the salt shaker. read more

SO GOOD! one of my fave vegan places to eat in Nashville. We went during lunch time, its a medium size eatery with incredibly friendly staff! Went with my husband and kiddos and we got so much food for such a fair price. My daughter wanted the kid size burger with the adult toppings and the dude helping us was more than happy to oblige! Everything we got tasted so good! I got a Greek salad and a buffalo tempeh wrap that were phenomenal! I couldn't stop eating it even though I was full long before I was finished xD I can't wait to come back again to try more! read more

I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian. I enjoy my meat-based BBQ, but came here on the recommendation of a vegan friend. I felt a little like a fish out of water, and the very kind young ladies here helped me decide on a lunch. The BBQ wrap I just had was just amazing - would never have thought vegan BBQ could taste this good! I also had some bean chili that gets two thumbs up. This little restaurant is a gem. Our family had lots of questions which were all answered by the friendly--and patient--staff as we placed our orders at the counter. Our food was immediately assembled (think Chipotle) and ready before I even paid. The kids loved their veggie burgers which came with their choice of a side and drink. The proportions on their kids meals were great for $5. I was also satisfied with the $6.99 price tag on our adult entrees; but sides and drinks are extra. They have some solid happy hour specials on drinks and apps that I would have loved to known about before ordering. The food was delicious, the staff was great, and everyone I saw seemed to be having just as good of a time as we were! Definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

So happy to find this place on a trip to Nashville. Ordered the Vegan BBQ and dear god, that was the best vegan BBQ I have EVER had. I really like how the restaurant is set up, very chill, the staff is super nice and friendly. Very easy to connect with. The Asian slaw on the sandwich was great and the extra BBQ sauce they squeeze on really does the trick. It's a bit messy to eat, but you can always use your fork at the end! I had also ordered a crab cake which I would have preferred cold, but was delicious anyway. It was so good that we came back the next day! Ordered the same Vegan BBQ, but with a side of potato salad. YUM. I sprinkled pepper on mine but wow, that was so tasty. Literally cannot say enough good things about this place! Me and my homies agreed it was the bomb, and half of them aren't even vegan. I really loved the food here. I had the traditional barbecue on a wheat roll, the white chicken chili and the apples. The barbecue was delicious with just a little bit of spice, the white chicken chili was so authentic and the apples were sweet and crunchy. There is a menu as you come in but you can also walk down the buffet style order line see what looks good to you. There were so many options it was hard to choose. It was a gorgeous day and the outside seating was just perfect. Definitely will be back to eat here again! read more

Holy goodness. My best friend and her husband had been here and told me it was good. I trusted their judgement but it wasn't only good it was GREAT. Ordering is easy and cafeteria style. Pricing is clear. I got the traditional BBQ Sandwich and a side of potato salad. The sandwich was ridiculously tasty and gorgeous. The slaw added a nice crunch and the BBQ sauce was plentiful and tasty. The potato salad was good and I do wish it had a tiny bit more bite but it was the perfect side for the BBQ. I also got the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Parfait and that was divine and very indulgent. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in town. read more

Sunflower cafe is a great place for vegans!! I really enjoyed the Buffalo tempeh wrap and I also tried the Buffalo salad! Both were great but I wish they had more "meat" options besides tempeh. We tried the mushroom burger and was not as satisfied it did not stay together well and the party fell apart as soon as we tried to pick it up. The Asian slaw was the best tasting dish we had during this visit and the cookie dough mousse was fantastic. The chocolate mousse was not as sweet but still good. I really love the atmosphere and the staff is very friendly! Also you can sample the sides before deciding which is always great! I will definitely visit sunflower again because the food is fresh and I am curious to try the other dishes they offer :) read more

Sunflower is pretty good, for what it is. I'm not particularly interested in gluten-free beanies, but I ate there anyway. The clientele is what you think they are, college drop outs who think wearing a wool cap in August makes them artists. The staff, on the other hand, are the least angry bunch of restaurant people I have ever met. They seemed happy to explain their confusing cuisine to a nine year old and his meat-and-potatoes father with no judgement. All four of us liked Sunflower Cafe better than wild cow. That says allot because we love the cow. Food was fresh and flavorful. We took full advantage of their sample before you buy offering. The only problem we had was determining which delicious food to buy. My wife got arugula aioli veggie burger, I got bbq wrap, the sides were later, Apple's sweet potatoes, curried chick peas, Asian slaw, broccolini and the most delicious pad Thai. Sunflower is a buffet style cafe that seems to change out its menu everyday. You get choices of 1 to 3 sides from the buffet or sandwiches, wraps, or entrée type items plus a buffet side. It's a nice set up. I got a black bean & quinoa burger aloha style with a tiny bowl of pad thai from the buffet. Sadly, I was underwhelmed. Without commenting on appearances, the pad thai was cold, though expected, and chewy, not expected. The burger, not the best bean burger... I mean... I slightly feel robbed at the price charged for these. The quality isn't up to snuff. I can name off several veggie style burgers in various places that are cheaper with some umf, but that's that and this is Sunflower, in Nashville, that locals can eat at and enjoy. No? Anyways, it's a bit pricy and the quality could use a boost. The pineapple x sweet chili sauce made me double take as if it were overly melted cheese, and if it matters, that I chose the wrong noms to eat... then I'll add that I stood there for awhile without anything jumping out. I also tried the caramelized apples... they actually were decent, but not my cup of apples. Things I do love, the complimentary cucumber & lemon water, the layout, the amazing aroma as you walk up the patio, and the light that floods through the windows. Pretty good food. I went only because it's Tuesday and the wild cow is closed. I called ahead because I heard it gets busy but the woman on the phone seemed startled someone was calling for take out. I walked in and my order was hot and fresh and ready to go. That's all I ask for in a to go order. I ordered the veggie burger with kale and sesame dressing and a side of quinoa. It was really, really good. They did have some cheesecakes and mousse in a fridge unit to the left of the cash register which was very tempting but I didn't indulge so I can't positively or negatively recommend. read more

The staff is friendly and eager to share their vegetarian dishes.When they saw our family come through the door, they seemed a little confused by us. Maybe it was my bbq t-shirt. Something probably said these people don't look like our people. But the kale was nicely prepared with robust flavors. The cabbage slaw complex and rustic, and the sunflower rice full of texture and balanced with tarragon. Despite the lack of meat, we found it filling and delicious! It is hidden behind a sleazy looking motel and parking is accessible via the alley which is quirky like berry hill. But their place has an inviting atmosphere and comfortable cottage feel. So I eat meat; it's what I do, but my sister came to visit and revealed that she has become a vegan and I needed to find a place to take her. A friend recommended the Sunflower Cafe and off we went to give it a try. My sister absolutely loved the selection and thought the place was amazing and I will admit that I left that night stuffed and very satisfied. I never thought that I could eat a meal without meat and really enjoy it. I was proved wrong. This place has been on our list to try since my wife and I became vegans. It did not disappoint. I had the traditional sunflower burger which was very good. Loved it. Also got the no-bake cookie and almost went back for more. The place gets a little busy at lunch time so be prepared for the line. It's been tough to find a place that my gf and I can both enjoy. She is vegan and I am not so to find a place that actually makes the veggie burgers taste good is a rare treat. Being a vegan for the past 3 years, I have always dreamed of a place like the sunflower cafe. My wife and I drove up from Birmingham to try all the vegan restaurants in Nashville. This is the best one so far. The Vegan BBQ Wrap is one of the tastiest things I have ever tasted. I would recommend adding avocado and non dairy cheese. As sides go, I recommend the broccoli salad, potato salad, the collard greens, Asian slaw, pad Thai salad, and the sesame kale. They have soda sweetened by agave. I loved all the flavors.
