We were seated on the lovely patio for breakfast. Upon being seated we were greeted immediately and asked about water service and any other beverages we might want to order. Our waiter came by a few minutes later to deliver my husband's coffee. He was attentive and efficient throughout our experience. The overall experience beyond service was not as great. We shared the Eggs Benedict and Breakfast Burrito subbing out the chorizo with sausage, and subbing the side of mixed greens for breakfast potatoes on the Bennie. The Bennie(which the menu did state), was served with a lemon forward hollandaise. It was so lemon forward that was the only flavor you tasted. The thinly sliced pieces of Duroc ham were only discernible if you pulled them away from all of the lemon. I love poached eggs, these eggs were not properly poached and the white wasn't set. Now on to the Breakfast Burrito. To be fair, my husband said he enjoyed this more than the Bennie......but, that's about where it ends. Too much salsa verde made the entire spinach tortilla mushy. The sausage and eggs were cooked properly but they didn't dice the sausage that we subbed, just stuck two whole links in it. The breakfast potatoes that were inside were tasteless and soft......too soft. My husband said they were okay, not great. Our lackluster breakfast was saved by the mini walnut zucchini loaf. It was very tasty! I don't know if we ordered the wrong items and our overall food experience might have been better, but just not sure we would take a chance and go back. I think ultimately they have a lack of attention to detail, and the dishes we were served were over powered by sauces, and the improper cooking of poached eggs. But after that was able get to get a table with no wait. The seating area is in the back. It's a fairly large space but all outdoors so it was chilly in the morning. The price for average breakfast foods was quite steep ($25-$30 for entrees), and the food felt fairly average. I did appreciate that they offered vegetarian options for pretty much everything on the menu. I got the breakfast burrito; it was okay, just drenched in a tomatillo sauce that felt a bit overpowering. Something that was really off-putting was being seated near the kitchen area - there were several flies flying around the food which as unappealing; additionally, they allowed a dog in the same room that we were seated in (i.e., the kitchen area) which felt unhygienic and inappropriate. If I'm in Sonoma again, I'd consider coming back to try another option, but may not prioritize it over other brunch spots. I would have liked to try the patio area if I could go back. read more

A group of us came here for our first meal of the day after wine tasting nearby. It was close to their closing time on a Saturday and they were very accommodating and we didn't feel rushed at all by their friendly staff. As is the norm with this group, they like to order as much of the menu as possible to group share. I ordered a Cappuccino to speed up my recovery and it was solid. I also liked their Grilled Cheese(with a small side salad). Overall, the food is closer to 3.5 stars and service is 4 stars. Once again, I wish Yelp would allow half stars in our ratings. The American breakfast was very good, unfortunately the poached eggs for the eggs Benedict were underdone. Prices were quite high so you would expect exceptional food, and service. The food was slightly above average, and the service was lacking . If you were hoping to get a refill of water or coffee, don't hold your breath. And certainly don't make any special requests like hot sauce or ketchup. You probably won't get them until after you finish your meal. Also note in the small print at the bottom of the menu and there is a 4% surcharge. So instead of accurately charging you for food they have hidden charges. A group of had reservations for a late lunch(an hour before they closed) earlier this month, after we did some wine tasting not too far away. We were seated outside and it appears they have more seating outside than inside. This is probably a good thing on most days of the year, with this being Northern California. As usual for this group , we ordered more dishes than we had people, so we could group share family style. I did enjoy my Cappuccino and the Mushroom Scramble was decent but I really didn't find the other 4 dishes anything special and quite average. I understand Sonoma County is going through some tough times(as many cities are) but we were shocked at a 15% Health and Happiness Charge before the tip was added. I have seen it range from 3% to 10% around San Francisco for Health charges but never this high. You will wait in line, give your number, they will text when the table is ready! You will be asked to specify where you want to sit (outside, rather than not caring). Once seated, you'll be able to order mimosas by the bottle. They have 4 different flavors from classic to lavender mist. One bottle is about 4 classes. The food is excellent portions if you're looking for something on the larger side, which I certainly was! I fancied the breakfast burrito which had the tastiest sausage & bacon wrapped in the fluffiest egg. I cleaned my plate. The wait is worth it to sit outside in the back. The lavish greenery with the yellow flowers & chairs is truly everything. Something amazing I noted, on the menu it says, "In lieu of accepting tips, we apply a 15% Health and Happiness surcharge to your order. This helps us pay our team above the living wage in addition to, medical coverage, 401k with company match, monthly wellness bonus, paid time off and more." There are many great things to say about Sunflower caffe. However there were some things that I believe they can improve on. Ambiance: I liked the way this place looked. From the front of house to their backyard seating area, it was atmospheric and clean. Service: This was great! I had a great server who recommended items off the menu when asked and answered all of our questions. Food came out quick and he came to check in on us appropriately. Food: I got the buttermilk biscuit sandwich. I loved the egg and cheese on this however, the biscuit itself was a bit tough. Salad was simple but great. My party also got the Wagyu Steak grilled cheese and this is probably the best dish from my group, as I had a little bit of everyone's dish. The steak was tender, the bread crispy and soft, the sauce was a great mixture of spice and tart. This was an all rounder must try. The Grilled Cheese, Chicken and Avocado sandwich was good too but the chicken was a bit too dry for me. Beverages: I got the Boylan root beer. This was by far a watered down version of a root beer. I assume it's because they use real sugar cane but I would not order again. BTW this is by no means a fault to Sunflower Caffe or the kitchen as this is just a brand name root beer that they probably sponsor. The vanilla iced latte was good and had a unique taste to it, not your typical style that you would get from Starbucks or anything. There is one gripe I had about this place and it is regarding the fans. Now the weather was around 80-ish and while I did appreciate the many fans hanging on the corner of each rooftop for the backyard seating, it was rather too powerful. So much so that it was blowing the napkins away. It was also too loud that my party had to speak a little louder just to hear each other. If they can lower the strength of it, that would be perfect, otherwise, it's just blowing semi-hot air towards you ~ not pleasant. Conclusion: Would I come back? Yes, definitely! The gripes, although several, were minor enough for me to warrant a return. Such a great little spot if you're looking for a casual brunch to eat on a patio. They have a variety of coffees, juices, and alcoholic beverages. Wonderful place and beautiful atmosphere. We had the Buffalo soft serve ice cream. Vanilla/Carmel swirl. I added sprinkles of salt to enhance the flavor. The ice cream was incredibly creamy and delicious. You give your order at the door. They provide you a number and you go to the garden patio to wait for your order. It was a chilly morning but they have powerful heaters all over the patio and we were very comfortable, they also offer blankets if you need one. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the food was great. We had the pumpkin bread, it was soft and fluffy and the granola added just the right crunch. And the espresso butter is delish. This review is only for my personal experience. I ordered the wrong thing: the curried cauliflower wrap. I've had great cauliflower sandos in SF, one at Jane and the other at Cheese Plus. Sunflower's is not great. In fact it's trash. It was a cheap tortilla served cold that was 70% lettuce. The rest was a little cauliflower and hummus. It was the kind of wrap you'd get out of the refrigerator at an airport. And it was $22. That's psychotic. Who came up with this? Nothing on a menu should be that purposefully bad. read more

Food is gross and totally overpriced! My friend and I had a terrible first visit to Sunflower Caffe and we'll never go back again. From their website and menu, I was expecting a healthy, organic, farm-to-table type restaurant. In reality, very little was organic or healthy or looked like it came from a farm. I got $29 Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and the whites of the poached eggs were still clear (yuck!). The "dressed organic lettuces" that came on the side was just a mesclun mix. Everything was very greasy and unhealthy. I felt sick for hours after eating it. My friend got the $28 Duck Sandwich and hated it, said the duck tasted like beef. He also felt ill for hours after eating there. The waiter was uninformed about the food. We asked about the whether the salmon was wild or farmed and even after going to look at the "package," he couldn't say. He couldn't tell me which ingredients were organic. Add in a gross smoothie (room temp) and an Arnold Palmer and we paid $89. Terrible value. Also, an "organic, healthy" restaurant shouldn't have bathrooms gassed with nasty synthetic fragrance emitters and toxic pink soap. Oh and the music they were playing was the most obnoxious AI "sunshine pop"--not at all authentic or relaxing. read more

Portion sizes were great (except for the small smoothie which was too small and the large looked too large. Where's just right sunflower bear? I hate myself for that joke). If you are in Sonoma, there are a lot of restaurants to choose from on their little downtown square but I highly recommend here for brunch/lunch. I had probably the best avocado toast I've ever had. The lines and wait for tables can be long, but the staff will definitely help try to get your order in and get you seated quickly because the food comes out pretty fast. Most of the seating is outdoors and only some of it is covered so weather could be a factor in your wait times so take that into account. Food is solid - not bad, but not outstanding.
