Stopped by to get some brunch on Sunday morning, and was so pleasantly surprised. Cute café with a great patio oasis in the back. It's a little pricey, but it's also on the town square, so what do you expect? My girlfriends got the girl cheese sandwich, but I think I had the best dish with the General's Daughter salad. It was very nicely dressed and had some great textures. It was refreshing in the California sun. I also had a standard dirty chai latte, which was nothing special but did the trick. The beer menu is only mediocre. Certain things just don't mix. I came here last Saturday for breakfast with some friends and I was pretty impressed with the area. Downtown Sonoma is one of those I passed through as a kid but never actually got out of the car to experience. My friends were crazy about all the little shops in the area. My mind however, was crazy for the food. When we arrived, I barely snagged a park in front. Parking seems like it could be a little chaotic so I definitely advise to come a little earlier than you plan so that you have enough time to park. When you get there you wait in line to order and then they give you a number placard which you put on your table so that they know which table is whom. Prices seemed decent for the area but lets talk about the food... So I ordered the General Vallejo. I asked the chick working the cashier if the Johnny Cake is separate from the eggs and she said yes. Cool!! I'm all about mixing stuff sometimes but not so much when it's pancakes or corncakes in this instance. So I made sure it came with syrup and then paid for my meal. When the food arrived, everything was on top of the cakes. Come on man. Not the cakes! I was a little disappointed because I was told incorrect information. Then I come to find out from one of our friends that she said she was new so I didn't feel as upset. I've been there. So I took a bite into the dish with everything: the corncakes, the avocado, and even the poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. It just didn't seem that flavorful to me. I had to bum some hotsauce off of someone to give it some extra flavor. If you are going to combine two things like that then there needs to be a clear cut flavor. Otherwise you are pretty much wasting one(or both) of the dishes. Yea that's fine if you want to make the benedict a very subtle flavor. Eggs benedict is a very soothing dish on it's own. But what is the Johnny cakes doing for the dish? Nothing. I've said this in a previous review but if you want to combine two dishes together, you have to have to at least have a bold flavor for one dish to compliment the other. If both of the things you combine have subtle flavors then the dish is going to fall flat a majority of the time. My recommendation is to maybe try just splitting the dishes. Have a small plate for the Eggs Benedict and then a bigger plate for the Johnny cake with Syrup on it's own. I feel that splitting the dishes up will give more depth to the meal. I mean ultimately, if people want to put their eggs on the Johnny Cake then they can but there's a difference when there is a choice versus getting a plate with the Eggs Benedict on top of the Johnny Cake from the get go. And then to make matters worst, I ordered a Moscow Mule and it was mostly Ice. I asked for a Moscow Mule man; not an Icy Mule. :( lol At the end of the day, I did enjoy my experience here though. The people working here are very nice and professional. Also the interior and exterior are amazing. Anyone who appreciates home decorating will really appreciate those the decorations Sunflower Caffe has. I would come back but if I do I am probably just gonna get a Waffle and call it a day. Sometimes it's fun to try new things, however not every meal is for everyone. Unfortunately Saturday's meal wasn't for me. read more

Delicious and such a cute spot! The food was so god the bacon was crispy bread was buttered perfectly and their jam was some of the best jam I've tried my SO actually couldn't stop eating it! We came during a rainy day so they had small heaters placed around the tables which helped with the cold. It was a nice aesthetic the seating made it feel like we were on a picnic. I will say the one down side on the food was the potatoes as they were very salty I wasn't able to finish them but I loved the portion size as it didn't over well you with a big amount it was just the perfect amount. 4.5 stars, but you know how Yelp doesn't like halfsies. This was a last minute brunch decision on our last day in Sonoma Valley and so glad we stopped in! The only reason I deducted half a star was because the COVID protocols were a little confusing. There was a line at the front, and while standing in line we realized you have to order before they seat you, and it was a bit of a scramble to decide what we were really craving. The slight annoyance wore off as soon as we were led to this adorable little back courtyard patio equipped with tons of plants, flowers, and fountain for the quintessential Sonoma brunch ambiance without the stuffiness. As a preface, I'm on the hunt for the best ever eggs benedict, so needless to say I've had a LOT of them in my life and would say this one landed in the top 5 for me. The English muffin had to have been made in house and if not, they procure them from a phenomenal bakery/source because they really made the dish. Nice and fluffy, not overly crisped and not too soggy either. The hollandaise was a perfect blend of tang and buttery goodness, and portioned appropriately. Don't skimp or drench my benny with the sauce and we're BFF's. Also ordered the Lavender Oat Latte, which was delivered with adorable heart latte art and ever so tasty. read more

My first dining experience at this adorable little gem! It's directly across the street from the Sonoma Square, and being I was early for my lunch date with a friend....AND the weather was gorgeous, I found a park bench and relaxed in the park till my GF arrived. We placed our order at the entrance, paid and then were escorted to the patio which is so quaint, beautifully decorated with bright yellow tables/chairs and the gardens have all sorts of cute ornamental doodads scattered about. We were promptly served water and ordered iced teas both. My friend and I had the Grilled Cheese and a cup ( which is actually a good sized bowl) of homemade Creamy Tomato Soup. My sammie was ordered with ham. Both came out about 15 minutes later. Fast and OMG.....Huge, melting cheese ushing from the buttery parm crusted bread. The soup was so pretty and both were delicious!! My GF and I hadn't seen each other for quite a time and we were having our Hen Party over 2 hours. The staff just kept the water coming and reassured us it was "All Good"! FINAL NOTE: I really love that there is NO TIPPING. Super fast service! My mom and I have been wanting to go here since we saw Guy Fieri feature it on DDD. They took our orders before we were seated and 5 mins later, the server came out with our coffees, and not even another 5 mins and out came our food. The Smoked Duck Sandwich was everything we thought it'd be! The balsamic sauce was a nice touch of acidity to cut through the rich duck. A top-rated restaurant in Sonoma for breakfast is the Sunflower Café. A few of the reviews mentioned the long lines that are common at the restaurant. With this in mind we arrived within 15 minutes of opening. We had a very short wait. Orders are placed outdoors before being seated. Seating was a challenge since the outside temperature was ~50F and the staff informed us that the restaurant was very limited on portable heaters. Since the Sunflower Café is known for excellent breakfast's, I was surprised that they don't have more heaters. We were not able to sit on the back garden patio as they were only able to find a table with a working heater on the front sidewalk. Our meals were tasty; however, the meals were not delivered hot. That that could have been the result of the cold plates & temperatures. By the time we departed there was a long line to be seated. read more

A few minutes later, someone handed us our drinks, I got an orange juice, and the cup was half full...I was hungry, so I just wanted to get home and eat. Once home, opened the American Breakfast I ordered, and it was the most pitiful amount of food I've seen. The eggs looked like a cheap motel continental breakfast, sitting there for hours. The 2 sad little sausages were barley cooked enough to eat. The only redeeming item, was the potatoes. I spent $60 there, and for what? Seems like a waste of money, and I would say that this Cafe needs to get new cooks, servers, and cups that fit their portions, because they don't understand how that works. These people know how to properly make a salad bowl. They added just the right amount of grains and seeds to my sunflower bowl to give it a savory flavor and a nice crunch. Plus, I am not always a fan of kale in my salads, but they massaged it well with oil to soften up the texture and flavor. The matcha tea was awesome and had a very mild flavor. Sunflower Caffe is located in the Sonoma Plaza Square and has the CUTEST brunch aesthetic with the tasty food to match! You enter the caffe, step in line, and order at the counter. You pick your seating and the servers will deliver your food to your table. They have limited indoor seating but they do have the prettiest patio with plenty of seating options. I was able to try their Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a side of Tomato Soup. It comes with a side salad which makes it very filling. It's a simple dish but very well prepared.
