Came with my co-worker to enjoy a quick weekend trip. The California sandwich and she ordered the porchetta. They were absolutely delicious, great buns and aioli. What a wonderful little cafe in Sonoma Square! My boyfriend and I stopped here in between visits to some of the tasting rooms in town and we are so glad that we did. We were hoping for something quick so we could get back to tastings, and Sunflower Caffe did not disappoint. You place your order at the counter when you walk in. You also pay there, and they give you a number to take to a table of your choice. It was a beautiful fall day in Sonoma so we chose to sit outside on the patio. The ambiance back there is perfect! There is so much lush greenery to enjoy and you really feel like you're in a serene little spot. I selected the avocado goat cheese sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the turkey club. We did not order any of the alcoholic beverages, but the champagne cocktails looked delicious! We were here for a late lunch on a weekday so our wait time was minimal. Once our food arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see a huge arugula salad accompanying my sandwich. My boyfriend's turkey club was great, but I really enjoyed the avocado goat cheese/arugula combo. The sandwiches were a bit pricey, but you are in Sonoma Square! I really enjoyed this place for breakfast/lunch. When you enter you will see a line to order food and there doesn't seem to be much seating. Most of the seating is out back in the courtyard. I've eaten here before and was happy. However, today the smoked trout salad was a lot of lettuce, some well past what should be served, the trout was minimal and not much else. Zero service. All that and an ice tea for $30 and they have the audacity to determine your tip (15%) and charge you before you are seated. Throughout this pandemic I have supported the restaurants I would normally frequent and always tip for take out. Will neither return nor recommend. read more

Wow! This place is amazingly good. Spent a couple of days in Sonoma and wanted some breakfast. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. We sat in the garden area, and it was the perfect setting for a breakfast. I had the American Breakfast and was not disappointed. The bacon was superb, probably some of the best i've ever had. The seasonal jam was perfect for the sourdough bread. My wife had the breakfast burrito and said it was one of the best things she's ever eaten. After eating here, have a walk around the square. While the food taste pretty good (for what we got to eat), it gets 2 stars for the 2 strands of hair we found in 2 different dishes. We got our salad with chicken breast and saw a curly hair sticking out between pieces of chicken, certainly a careless mistake. AMBIANCE First off, I don't care who you are, Sunflower Café has a killer ambiance all year round. Beautiful decor inside, and out, Sunflower Cafe is mainly known for their lovely garden patio that screams perfect for summer. They also offer seating in front of the restaurant adjacent to the beautiful Sonoma park. It's the perfect place to grab brunch with friends, people watch, grab some coffee, or kick start a wine excursion with their monster mimosas! SERVICE No one is overly rude, no one is overly friendly. I however would expect some type of service before being asked to tip. Immediately after you order, you are asked to select an option for tipping. This obviously creates awkward pressure at the front of the line to tip, and to tip well. Otherwise you kinda just look like a jackass for not tipping upfront. Worst part about tipping first, you would expect service to be topnotch after that, especially with a somewhat pricey menu. However, good service at Sunflower Café is not always guaranteed. They also will not adjust, or sub any orders. Not a very friendly place with those who have any sort of allergies to wheat, dairy, or shellfish. FOOD Although more than half of the menu has me drooling.... my personal favorite go-to is the duck sandwich. The menu is great; most items consist of high-quality ingredients, and are consistent enough to land them 4 stars. BOTTOM LINE It's a bit pricey, but a great place to go to meet with friends and have good food. The way the run their service could use some adjusting. read more

Anyways, I got the Avacado Pepperjack Sandwhich and it was mediocre - after about eating half, I was uninterested. The only thing this place has going for it is it's back garden. The first time I wanted to try Sunflower for lunch, the crazy layout/traffic flow of the front area drove me out quickly as it was a fairly busy tourist season day. Tried it again yesterday with a lower volume of people in town and even tho the same problem exists up front we ordered a couple of salads. So here's the deal: there is no real place to queue up gracefully in the area where you must stand and approach the counter to order your food and get your number for table service. Which means there is continual jockeying of the clump of customers for who's up next, AND, in this narrow cramped, crowded area the clump is continually being jostled about by the bussers and table service staff who have to go thru this area to get in and out of the kitchen. The back courtyard area is an obstacle course disaster area, with furniture too big for the space, making it extremely challenging to squeeze by full tables to get to the empty ones. So after running the gauntlet our two small uninspired salads arrived, and since they came to almost $18 we won't be back. NEXT. read more

Quite pricey, but the most beautiful patio in the area. Believe me, I studied the reviews/menus for all. Be sure to go to the BACK patio, as there is one in the front that you might think is the only patio in the place. Do not be fooled into ordering at the front either; order in back; sit in back. :) This is the one place to eat at for brunch/lunch if you want to sit outside after walking around the town and before enjoying some of the town's history. Coffee refills are free if you ask and they make damn good coffee here. So is the awesome filtered water that I discovered at many of the restaurants in the Sonoma/Napa area. Everything you order is delicious, even if it does take awhile. I had a $$$ lox with bagel which ran me almost $18 (with tip) but it was so huge I could only eat half. It actually kept well in the container, and when properly set on ice at the hotel, I was happy to have the rest the next am for breakfast. This always bodes well on vacation + leftovers sans refrigeration. You must hurry to grab your table as it fills up fast! That's a new one. Raw tomatoes and lettuce made my dry, tasteless, foccacia soggy and unpleasant. Weird sweet/tangy pickled flavor was eck. As you are ushered into Sunflower Cafe - the California sunlight beams through the large, overhanging tree branches providing shade for the patio - ultimately resembling a scene from a Midsummer's Night Dream. It's hard to avoid the overwhelming feeling of bliss. The other thing missing was tiny fairies wizzing around my head. It's no surprise this Sonoma restaurant boasts an extensive wine list, but an excellent ambiance to enhance the pleasures of wine imbibing as well. The menu consists of what seem to be pretty typical California fare that go hand-in-hand with the laid back vibe of the restaurant. Everything from the goat cheese and Avocado sandwich to the Bay Shrimp Salad, the food was nothing short of fresh and appetizing for a sunny afternoon: almost invoking a 'picnic' feel. They did forget to put my order in, thus creating a longer wait for my food. But considering I was on my second glass of wine, under a huge tree on a beautiful terrace, hearing the waitress's continuous and sincere apologies - I really didn't mind. read more
