There's a lot to love about Sunny's Salon. -- Easy to find (turn in off Big Horn Blvd.) -- Plenty of parking -- Very clean facility -- While I only go here for haircuts, I do appreciate the option of the variety of services offered here -- It's by a gas station and a boba place :D Now let's talk about Ping and her great haircuts. I have been getting haircuts from Ping for at least 10 years, from the time she had been working at Modern Beauty (where she was for 10-15 years) to opening her own place (Fan Salon) that was previously off Laguna Blvd. And now, I am glad she has opted to step away from the stress and responsibilities of running her own salon, and has instead opted to go back to simply renting a seat so that she can focus more on her clientele and just enjoying her life. She's definitely earned it. Ping gives excellent haircuts. And in particular, I think she gives a great haircut for guys. My haircut is a bit on the simpler and more conservative sports cut side, and Ping does a great job. I think with shorter hair, it's easy to notice even the slightest mistake (or maybe I'm just really picky). Yet Ping always does an excellent job. As I have mentioned to others before, Ping skillfully cuts my hair evenly on the sides and on the back. My fade doesn't look ridiculous. The top is trimmed to the correct length. Ping pays attention to the shape of your head and hair and everything always looks in the right place. I used to pay well over $20 for my haircuts. And Ping's haircuts have always been less than $20 for me. Ping's customer service is also great. Like I said earlier, I am a super picky client, especially when it comes to my hair. When I first met Ping, I was extremely anxious and micromanage-y and generally unpleasant. As I sweated over every little detail of my haircut, she was totally cool about it. She took the time to cut my hair an additional quarter of an inch if that's what I wanted. She has always been extremely accommodating. Ping is also extremely professional. When I call to schedule a haircut, Ping never gives you any false impressions about her availability. She won't book you into her schedule if she is actually busy. Ping will tell you exactly the days/times that she is free for an appointment. If Ping ever has to cancel an appointment, she will try to let you know as soon as possible, and it's always for good reason. And now that I think about it, she has probably only had to reschedule once or twice in this entire time that I've been with her. And again, by taking up a spot at Sunny's Salon, she is looking to make herself more available to her clients. And if you have to cancel or reschedule, Ping is also very understanding. Ultimately, Ping has always been a friendly and wonderful person. She makes you feel comfortable. Ping is more fluent in Chinese than she is in English, but she can easily carry a conversation to talk to you and ask you about life and family. And speaking of family, even my mom goes to see her now. Indeed, Ping has also become like family to me. If you are new to her, give her a try. read more

It's a non permanent relaxer so its not abrasive to your hair and lasts up to 12 weeks! The results were amazing!!! Haircuts have always been traumatic experiences for me. Going from long hair to short, extra traumatic. Maybe because I have a lot of hair, and people aren't used to cutting that much hair, I don't know. But this year I really wanted to turn over a new leaf and look more professional for optometry school. I'd been debating getting a short A line bob for a few months, but I was hesitant. My last attempt left me in a pony tail for 3 months. Well I finally went for it today at Sunny's Salon near my house. Long story short, it looks great!! There are very few times in my life where I have left a hair salon and actually liked my hair cut immediately, and this is one of those very rare occurrences. I went to Sunny's Salon ready for a big change. I had long hair, so I wanted to chop it off for a cute but low-maintenance 'do. There are two sides. One side seems to be the hair salon, and the other side the spa stuff. When I walked in, I was immediately seated and met Kim. Kim was very friendly and she sounded very excited to do a haircut that was more than just a trim. I told her I was a little scared for it too be too short, so as long as I could still put it in a ponytail, that's the length I would want. So she shampooed my hair and then we sat back down and talked about the length. I also had really thick hair too, which she already noticed and said she could thin it out by tapering the hair in the back. Throughout the whole thing, she was very friendly and the result looked nice, almost exactly how I imagined it to be. She let me look at it and asked what I thought. I wanted the bangs to be a little shorter and layered on one side, and she said no problem! And she spent a couple minutes doing touch-up. In the end, I was completely satisfied with my haircut and the service I received. A lot of people have given me compliments on it, and I feel great in it. Love this new light hairdo! Horrible Brazilian Blow out ....DO NOT RECOMMEND, I have had several Brazilian blow outs , I love the results on my type hair which is fine, super curly frizzy ( traditional relaxers are to harsh on my hair), I always leave with shiny soft straight hair. I was crunched for time and thought about trying a new local salon called Sunny's salon & spa, I had new growth and just wanted a BB to smooth it down. I was lured in by the huge sign out front saying 50% off. I should of known better. Cory was my stylist. My appt time was at 10am for a BB and color I didn't leave till 5pm... 7hrs is way too long. He did my hair and did a great job on my color and amazing blow dry job, but he didn't use the flat iron to activate the Brazilian blow out as well as he should of, one because his flat iron had comb like teeth and he really didn't like to flat iron. So theres no way to get close to the roots and edges to activate solution (A certified BB stylist should know this), so when washed its like the treatment never happen. By the time I woke up the next morning it looked like I never had it done. My hair started to pop up at the root & edges and a part in the back of my head like a calic that I DON'T have suddenly appeared. I called after the weekend and told the owner Sunny I was unsatisfied with the BB. She immediately told me " No No theres no way the BB was applied wrong.Very augmentative and defensive wouldn't even let me finish talking. Insisted Cory redo my hair I told her I felt uncomfortable having Cory do my hair again , because it just would feel awkward going back after complaining I didn't have 7 hrs again, and I was afraid I would get the same result. She refused and said NO Cory messed it up he fix it. The next day I went in to show her my hair. She wouldn't even stop with a hair cut & be professional to speak with me, Instead she tells me its my fault in her broken english that I came to her salon in the first place , and that my kind of peoples hair ,,, only need a relaxor. I asked for a refund for the BB and she said NO ...lol.. and then said finally she would do my hair....Yeah ... NO thanks keep your racist comments and insults.. Went in earlier this week for a haircut following the very unfortunate closure of Family Beauty Salon on Bruceville. Maggie and Wendy originally used to work at this Bruceville location--ask for them when you go in! They are the most wonderful, amazing stylists you'll ever met, and they'll cut and style your hair exactly as you want it. I have curly/wavy hair that's prone to frizziness. I've been growing it out and just trim it for maintenance, and Maggie really knows how to take care of my specific hair type and uses just the right products. Every time I go in, I walk out feeling amazing. I can't imagine having a different hair stylist, so I'm really glad they are working here at Sunny's Salon! read more

This place was by far the worst salon I have ever been to & the worst hair cut I have ever received. How bad? I went to a different salon 3weeks after I got hair cut from Sunny, and my hair stylist asked me if I chop my hair by myself.(I told her no, and she was genuinely suprised that *professional* did my hair) Long story short, the owner Sunny cut my hair and she messed up big time. I just wanted to trim my hairline and get layers the entirely since I have super thick hair. I wonder if Sunny had ever cut layered hair, because all she did was *chop* with scissors.... The result? My head had a few steps to climb to the top :( (I even brought a hairstyle magazine to show it to her.) and Last but not least, when I called for an appointment she told me that the hair cut for short hair is $40(my hair was 3 inches above my shoulder lines), but she charged me $50. read more

Amber was exceptionally nice and explained all of the dermalogica products that she was using, as well as advising on what was irritating my skin- true professional and good at what she does. Sunny's Salon experience has been great for me for a long time, but I was not compelled to write about it until recently. I have driven to this salon all the way from East Sacramento (12 miles) to have the owner Sunny cut my thick, wavy hair because basically she is meticulous. Lately I was invited to have a facial done as well. It is called HydraFacial MD. It is a new fad that supposedly everyone in L.A. is doing. I don't get facials usually but I am turning 43 this summer and am starting to care more. The HydraFacial MD is AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING. It really made me look so much better. I immediately got soft, pretty skin. And two weeks later it is still gorgeous. I had to Yelp about it. I went for a pedicure with a friend and the staff were nice enough and did a good job on my toes. When I brought up their disinfection methods they just smiled and did not comment. I didn't know if that meant they didn't understand, couldn't communicate in English effectively or they didn't have an autoclave. Hard to say. After we left my girlfriend had toenail polish smeared all over her big toes. When they took the old polish off they didn't do a great job and it wasn't hard to see. We won't go back. read more

My friends color looked great consistently, so finally one day I asked her girl, who does your hair?? When she told me it was Sunny's Salon in Elk Grove I was seriously excited to try her because I I like to stay local and don't want to drive downtown unnecessarily on my days off! I made an appointment with Sunny herself and have been going to her ever since. I LOVE the way she cuts my layers and does my highlights. I have blonde hair and I am really picky about the color and the cut. She does it just right, just the way I ask, every single time. She really listens to my special requests and asks questions back so that I can get the effect I am looking for. Each time I come in I am high maintenance and picky and she talks me through my ideas and it comes out perfect :) She layers my hair so that it is super easy to style on my own. Sometimes you know after a good hair cut you could practically just run out of the house with wet hair and if it's cut right it will dry right and that's why I keep coming back. My hair is in the best condition now because they use really nice products on it that don't wreck it so it's finally shinny again! I like the blonde highlights and when I went from brown back to blonde (hey it was a phase) she was able to do it. I had one consult with another stylist that said she wasn't comfortable with the drastic lift so I didn't have her do it.
