Got to town to visit Ringling Museum but we were hungry and decided to find somewhere close to eat first. What an absolute win for all four of us! Hubs got breakfast while the three of us girls grabbed lunch. Everything perfectly cooked from omelets to lamb burgers and cheeseburgers. We were also treated to Chimney cake which is a 300 yr old recipe and quite the delight indeed. I would totally drive two hours back over from the other side of the state just to eat there! Love, love, love Sunnyside Cafe! Incredible food and wonderful staff! I'm sad that we discovered this on our last day of vacation because we would have definitely gone bzck.back. Our group of 11 was looking for somewhere close to the Sarasota airport. Some wanted breakfast and some wanted lunch and Sunnyside fit the bill. We sampled all of the mimosa flavors (raspberry, wild berry, and mango). Delicious! The chicken panini was amazing and the potato pancakes were a big hit. The huge, fluffy pancakes and omelets were fantastic and the hamburger was hailed as "the best I ever had". After such wonderful meals we had to try dessert. The chocolate cake, layer cake and chimney cake were all divine. I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff. We truly had an enjoyable meal. Run, do not walk to this delicious cafe!' read more

What a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant along this busy highway. It doesn't seem like much more than a hotel cafe, but the food is way ahead of the appearance. My husband and I had a late breakfast here today. I have to say we totally disagree with the negative comments posted here. We had a great waiter, the chef was friendly as well as the other staff. I had the shrimp and grits, my husband had a scramble dish with house made sausage. We were very satisfied with our dishes. The service was timely and we were lucky enough to arrive before lunch so that was a factor no doubt. The restroom was clean and the dining room was very clean. We were just visiting the area and decided to go there even after reading the negative reviews. We stopped here on the way to the Ringling museum. Don't let the strange location in the front of the apartment complex fool you. This is a great place for brunch and the Ringling museum is right up the road. The eggs Benedict is top notch. If you are a fan of this dish, you won't be disappointed. My wife had the Mahi-Mahi tacos, which were the special. It was three small tacos with a spicy sauce with salsa on the side. They were delicious. A friend had the salmon burger with sweet potato fries. I tried a couple of the fries, and they were very good. The service was okay; nothing to complain about, just not terrific. It took a little bit longer than usual for our food to come out, but it was worth the wait. My only complaint would be that they were out of guloush, which I would have liked to try. read more

This is good food. I'm so comfortable here I could sit outside drinking their good coffee all day. I like all the food here but lunch is my favorite. They go the extra mile to make the food quality. Explained the menu inside and out. Very clean in the restaurant and bathrooms. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived but was busy by the time we left. Hubby had fruit and steel cut oatmeal and my daughter had the most amazing chocolate chip pancakes. I had a very great tasting western omelet with the best home fries ever. They had a good looking lunch menu which is way I can't wait to go back. Such a great find! Have been driving by for two years and found on yelp today. Decided to stop in for their new Friday dinner time. Everything was FRESH and homemade. Can tell the chef/owner takes pride in his cooking and made everything fresh to order. The spinach salad was great and must have had a whole beet on it. The asparagus was SO fresh. The salad dressings is even housemade (only downside was doused in dressing and asked for it on the side) . Freshest goat cheese I have had. Grilled vegetables were delicious as well. Well seasoned. My dining partner had the burger and said it was very good all with homemade seasonings. Sweet pot fries looked amazing. The sangrias were very well made and full of fruit. read more

This restaurant has exchanged owners throughout the years, but as the Sunny Side Cafe, this place is THE BEST for a the most perfect place to to get breakfast. No lines, No greasy crap, No hollering waitresses. Here you will enjoy fresh squeezed orange juice (I watched the owner using the orange juicer in front of me), mimosas made with top shelf ingredients, fresh vegetables, and the best Hungarian Pancakes. Also, a choice of gluten free toast. Although it is located in the red light district of Tamiami Trl, you would never know it when you get out of your car, and enter the restaurant. Rather suspicious finding this breakfast spot near the airport after our plane was delayed, but were really impressed (a tough NYC group and a finicky 11yro) by the freshness, execution, & some unique approaches to usually bland fare. For example, a potato pancake was light, peppery, w some vegetable ( onion? Zucchini? )density to it. My Arugula salad was lightly dressed in lemon ( could have used salt but who salts salads anymore?)and the egg dishes at the table got comments on how delicious and perfectly cooked they were. The outdoor space too is nicely done, w the traffic at least visually blocked off. Our serious but very efficient waitress revealed the crew is Hungarian--and the touch pays off in the food. read more

Visiting Sarasota and wanted a good breakfast before heading home. We found Sunnyside Cafe and enjoyed every bite. The homemade sausage was perfectly seasoned and complimentrd my eggs perfectly. Avulious omelet with avocado tomatoes onions and cilantro had the perfect mix of flavors. Potato pancakes came with every breakfast..yummy. Hungarian crepes with homemade preserves were light and delicious. Left with oatmeal raisin cookies that were the best we have ever found. Staff was welcoming and personable. Our server kept our coffee cups full and brought water with lemon without having to ask for it. Definitely will be back. Kudos to the Sunnyside Staff. read more

Terrible is an understatement. The most unfriendly service we've ever had. Every person working looked extremely mad and miserable. Ordered the steak and eggs, the steak came out purple-RAW and tasted like venison not NY strip at alllllll. Sent back to have cooked longer, not much better when I got it back. My boyfriend ordered a burger, the meat was a grayish color and also tasted gamey?? Same thing happened with my brothers steak and eggs, completely raw. We left feeling actually sick to our stomachs from the few bites we actually did eat. Also, it took almost 45 min to get our food. Asked for a cup of soup, she said it would be about 20 min (for soup??) and I would have to wait, very rude. I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy... read more

Attentive servers take care of requests with expedition. They have a nice diverse breakfast and lunch menu with thoughtfulness to one's budget. The owners I understand are from Slovakia and Hungary and attentive to the atmosphere and menu. I had a Grilled Caesar Salad. The homemade dressing was perfect! Croutons were crunchy and the Romaine was Crispy and grilled wonderfully! One of the women in my party had the Avolicious Omelet. Delicious and the only added comment would be not to put all the salsa in the side dish, "It was more than needed". Save it, and add more sour cream on the side for the Delectable Potato Pancake! Oh My Gosh! And for the other guest she decided on "The Brave One": This omelet was delicious and "Hearty" as my friend would say. Good flavor and comes with toast, potato pancake, ("Delicious!") and salsa or a seasonal fruit medley. Great place to go. I would recommend it to all my neighbors.
