The outside of this restaurant reminds me of a typical southern-style diner and I just love greasy spoons for breakfast. Stopped by early in the morning of a Wednesday on our way out of VB and found a booth in the front. Our server lacked the shining friendliness that I'm used to from spots like these, but I entitle anyone to have a bad day once in a while. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict and I went with the creamed chipped beef on white toast with a side of hash browns. My 4 year old son ordered pancakes (as usual) and these came with some chocolate chips and Mickey Mouse ears. Disney is invading everywhere and polluting our kids! Hahahaha. j/k So the food came out and I was really disappointed in the chipped beef. I always look forward to S.O.S. (google it with the word breakfast - I'm not translating!) when I head down south because southerners usually are experts at it. The gravy was just watery and had a weird taste to it that I didn't like. Gravy for S.O.S. should be thick and full of flavor. This cream gravy failed. My wife's eggs benedict was average and the muffins were soggy. My son's pancake was delicious! We spread the melted chocolate chips with the maple syrup and he ate every bite. Outstanding breakfast! A real "find". Our server, Nicole, was extremely pleasant and attentive with a great knowledge of the menu. The food was great valve large portions. This place is one of the most chic and classiest diners I've ever visited. The table settings and interior is very cohesive. Love the stripe pattern of the chair that accentuates the ceiling lights. The wall paper is spot on, it adds movement that flows aand creates awarm pleasant vibe. Originally not the desired placed to do our usual brunch but I'm glad that a friend and I decided to try this restaurant. The customer service is absolutely terrific. The staff is very engaging and polite. The food service is quick and efficient. I must commend the chef for the terrific food presentation, its simple yet elegant. For today's visit, I ordered the breakfast burrito filled with omelet, sausages, peppers and cheese served with home fries on the side. I wasn't crazy with flavor profile, thought it was very average. What matter most my hungry stomach was satisfied and fulfilled. Definitely, worth it to try. read more

Ok this is not the ritz, it is a locally owned joint that serves great breakfasts. I like this place. My men's group meets here every sat at nine. We used to go to bone shakers but they don't serve breakfast after Labor Day. Menu has traditional fare however live a little and go off the reservation and order the corn beef hash breakfast. It USA very tasty breakfast that hits the food groups. The set up is traditional diner with tvs on news channels throughout. The service is professional and the food is good. A bit of insider trading here is to get he loaded potatoes with loaded cheese, mushrooms and bacon bits. Their own concoction and it is good. Plus they serve alcohol at a diner. So for those that like an Irish coffee it is available. Now unlike boneshakers most of the customers have walkers vice Harley's not nearly as testosterone fueled. But good food at good prices. Honestly I reallllly hate to write this review considering the waitresses were extremely nice and very attentive to us. I didn't enjoy my food, like at all. It all looked nice for a breakfast place, but honestly the food was tasteless. That is not something our waitresses could fix though. My hash brown was watery, the eggs with cheese had no flavor-which was very odd to me, and my bacon was, well gross. My toast was flipping delicious though, I slathered that baby in jelly and butter! (; The rest of my food I had to put hot sauce, pepper, and salt on to even swallow it honestly. My husband didn't like his pancakes, and also said his food was nothing to come back to this place for, but like I stated prior the servers were great to us. Our son liked his chocolate chip pancake, well because what kid doesn't like chocolate? I personally wouldn't come back here for the food, but if I need a nice person to talk to and fill up my glass of water well, I will return here for sure! read more

This place was a pleasant surprise. I felt like breakfast food so started searching reviews for breakfast places in South Hampton Roads. I found this place and figured I'd give it a try. Not bad. The food is super basic, but cooked well. The place is super gaudy inside, but clean (lol). The staff is super pleasant. I got something way different that I normally would (the Filipino Breakfast) and my little one got basic choco-chip pancakes. I wasn't wowed, but was so happy to have something so basic not messed up that I was over the moon. There are many, many small, locally owned mom and pop restaurants in South Hampton Roads and they are so bad. Even many basic breakfast places are bad... Seems like very few who own restaurants in southeastern VA know how to cook. I wasn't expecting much, but I was very happy with my experience at Sunrise Café. I went today (Thursday) and arrived at noon-ish... there was hardly anyone there. Because of how small the place is, I won't bother coming on a Sat or Sun morning unless I'm willing to be there by the time they open because if it's packed I can see how it could be an unpleasant experience For the basics cooked well, a little surprise here or there (sweet potato biscuits and Filipino Breakfast) and friendly staff, this place is worth it! read more

This was my second visit in the last month. I left the house determined to get there by 8AM to take advantage of $4.49 early-bird special advertised prominently on their website. As I arrived, the sign out front advertised the $5.99 special. When I inquired about the website special with the waitress, she informed me that it was now the $5.99 special. When I mentioned the discrepancy with the information on their website, she said she would pass that along to the manager. Having driven about 5 miles, I when ahead and ordered then $5.99 special, without further discussion. At checkout, I mentioned to issue to the manager was told that the website information was old and that there had not been a $4.99 special in the four years she had worked there. She asked, did I not see it out advertised out front. So, in other words, it was my problem that I was misinformed. Either she didn't get it, or didn't want to get it. I suggested that they should change their web information to avoid future customer confusion. Having said all of that - the place is clean, the food was very good (like last time), as was the service from my waitress. The simple, and right thing for the manager to do, was to offer me the special at $4.99 as advertised. It would have been easy enough to do the right thing. Instead, they have a disgruntled customer, writing a negative review, who may or may not return on just on principle. read more

We just happened to be down at the beach today, this place had a banner that said "Best Of Virginia." We entered, very clean, and the staff was attentive. We were seated immediately. Waiter came shortly and gave menu and took drink order. Nice size menu, good options. I had the Italian omelet. I asked for extra meat, it sure didn't seem like it. Omelette was over cooked, and hash browns had zero flavor. Order food to go, for the nurses at the hospital we were at. Eggs Benedict-it was super embarrassing. Giant muffin with one slice of bacon topped with an over cooked egg, and barely any Hollendaze sauce. Second order to go was a turkey club-it even says mayo on the menu. Guess what no mayo, super dry. In total four meals purchased $52, full of disappointment. I'm hardly ever up this way, so chances are we will never cross paths again. I've been ordering from this place on Va Bch Blvd for the last 8 months or so. Not sure why they can't EVER get my order right. Always get the same thing and can't seem to get it right. Not that hard, I work in the restaurant business and this is ridiculous. WORD TO THE WISE DON'T ORDER FROM THEM!!!! No email or contact info for the company, just want to notify the owners of this establishment and there's nothing. Always order from them but NO MORE. Not a fan! The person who sat us was friendly and our waitress started off friendly and attentive but after she took our drink orders she chose to take another tables order that sat after us. I did inform her that I found it to be rude that we were ready and she continued taking others order over ours. The whole vibe then was different and I this point I really didn't want to entertain staying to eat but my children were excited to try the "mickey mouse" pancakes. Yea, no, the food was missing, I don't know, flavor? The home fries however were crispy and delicious but somehow the eggs I had were dry, how's that possible. My children's so called "mickey mouse" pancakes weren't very much to write home about. Nothing better than a breakfast joint that opens at 6:30am especially since I have a 9 month old who thinks 5am is an appropriate time to start the day. They have an awesome early bird special, 2 eggs, sausage, bacon or ham & 2 pancakes for only $4.49, cant beat that! I've also tried a breakfast skillet before and it was delicious. They have a full bar if you need to nurse your hangover with booze at 7am, not that I needed to or anything ;) The decor is cute, I love the tiled pillars and light fixtures. Our waitress, okay wait, ALL of the waitresses there were so so nice and as soon as we walked in they asked our names so they could address us personally. They were more than happy to fulfill any request we had with a smile, even for warm water for my sons bottle and providing me with a list of "must do's" as a newbie here. This place has definitely got a lot of regulars, because most of the people who walked in were greeted by name. So cool that the staff take the time to get to know their patrons. As a new resident of VA Beach, I will definitely be coming here on those early mornings that I am feeling lazy as shit and don't feel like cooking breakfast. Friendly service and bright, open eating area. Unfortunately, the bathroom was out-of-service... not sure why they allowed folks to use it when you couldn't flush the toilet. That's just gross. We were seated in an area that was quite chilly. I'm not sure if it were the fans that were blowing or if it were a vent... I had no clue, but I had my daughter go to my truck to fetch me a jacket and a blanket so that I could eat comfortably. I didn't bother asking to be moved to another area because it was getting crowded. Christi, our waitress, was cordial and very helpful with explaining the options. She was quick and our food was hot. I was pleased with my pancakes. I requested that they put the spiced apples on top. It tasted great. My cheese eggs were scrambled just right. The home fries tasted a lot like french fries. I wouldn't call them home fries, but they were pretty good nevertheless. When I think of home fries, I think of grilled, seasoned, sliced potatoes in cooked onions. Their version is seasoned, deep-fried cubed potatoes. Yes, I understand that every restaurant has their own version of home fries. I just have my preference based on my experiences from eating in various, southern diners and restaurants. read more

Overall a decent diner but not a place I would come back again to try. I ordered the pick 4 traditional breakfast. Ham was great, what they call "side" pancakes are actually very huge so much that I could only eat half of it. I also had 2 soft scrambled eggs which were very soft, if I ever return I will have them cook them a little longer because they were close to being almost runny. The hash browns were great, slightly crispy on top and soft underneath. The 2 negatives that I will point out. The bathroom was out of order, the waitress who I informed this to knew it was out of order and did not bother putting a sign on the door because in her words they were "working through it"....very strange in my opinion. Lastly you pay in a way similar to IHOP and cracker barrel, being that you receive your receipt and go to the register to pay however I was not told so I awkwardly sat in my booth for almost 5-10 minutes waiting on the waitress to come back. read more

A solid breakfast place. Pluses - wait is usually not long to nonexistent on weekend mornings (awesome when the other breakfast place on Shore has a 45 minute wait) . Wait staff/kitchen seems totally open to tweaking orders (you have crab omelets? Will you make crab Benedict for me? "No problem."). Pancakes (my staple) are plent-i-ful: three stacked plate fillers. The sweet potato pancakes (healthy, of course! Even with butterbutterbutter on them...) are hearty vs. sweet, and "tweaked" order of berry/oat pancakes also yummy. There is also no-sweat when asking for a poached egg. So you get the feeling breakfast is just what they do all the time, all their lives. Which brings me to the next point: Service -There is a no-nonsense, detached "just drop off food and go" wait staff style like you may see a character play in a movie, but that is OK when you just want to talk or chow down and seems part of the diner style of service. We have had one waitress several times now, however, who becomes very attentive once she has dropped off the bill. At first we thought she must be encouraging us to leave because, "Well, they must have people waiting for tables" but that was only the case once (we've had her about 3-4 times now). So that is the one and only drawback we have to report - pushing people out of their nests before their eggs are ready :) That and no real maple syrup! I really respect a place that respects its food and customers enough to make the real deal SOME kind of option. And it does get to be a sticky situation to have to keep bringing ones own real maple syrup stashed up ones sleeve a la "Elf." But that is another story. Otherwise - solid place. No-nonesense service. Minimal wait (which is sometimes the most important "the morning after"!). Good portions and good tasting. Recommend. read more

My husband and I frequent this place a couple times a month for breakfast. To me, there is no other breakfast place in Virginia Beach that even comes close to the food and service here. The food is amazing. I always get the breakfast skillet. I always take home half of it because the portions are so big. This place was amazing! I didn't think it would be much by it's appearance but it made up for that quickly. It was very busy as it was a Sunday on mothers day during brunch but they had us in and out in no time. I had the French toast combo and would recommend 5 stars just based on the French toast not even including the sides. The home fries were to die for!! The price wasn't too bad either.
