I have been going to Sunrise dental probably around 10 years now. I like that I always have the same dental hygenist who understands my fears and makes sure I am always comfortable. The facilities are clean and while there are no private rooms, you do feel like you have some privacy. During my years of going here, they have made recommendations for work needed, and during those times I have had work done everything went smoothly before during and after surgery. I Was told after a cleaning i have a cavity note I was never told this before 6 mos priot to coming to this office initially for just a cleaning and I wasn't having any issues with any of my teeth. so two weeks ago decided to get it filled to get ahead of any pain I could experience later. After the procedure I'm now experiencing pain when I bite down on my food and sensitivity to hot and cold so I just went back today and now im being told there was decay which was close to the nerve so now I need a root canal and of course a crown. I was set up and then exposed if I knew this could gave happened from a filling I would have not have done this I had no issues prior. I was never told my cavity decay was near a nerve now im left where I can not eat and they hope to receive thousands of dollars for a root canal procedure and crown I never needed. Be very careful of this place I'm looking for another dentist to fix this mess they created just for money. Trust they won't be getting any more of mine!! Stay way from this sshhhshow. read more

I have always had a fear of dentists but working with Dr. Vice and his wonderful staff is and has always been a pleasure. Appointments are easy to schedule, I am never kept waiting in the lobby and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. I went there a couple of times over the last few years. Maybe a total of 4 or 5 times. My teeth did usually hurt after each cleaning, but whatever... I WONT go back here again, EVER. There are TVs EVERYWHERE in this joint. Sounds good, right? WRONG. While people are working in your mouth, they are watching TV. Hygienists are watching TV. Dentists are watching TV. Seriously! How do you know? You can see them looking up at it while you're leaned way back in the chair! They talk to you about what is on TV, while their hands and instruments are in your mouth! I kid you not! True story: last time I was there, Jennifer Lopez was on the Ellen Show. She comes out, and the hygienist (while working in my mouth) is watching it, says she doesn't like Jennifer Lopez, and then asks me what I think about her marraige/divorce/whatever. Not only can I not speak, because my mouth is full of gear and being worked on, but I don't give a damn about Jennifer Lopez, Ellen, American Idol, or any of that junk! I'm just trying to get my teeth cleaned! I didn't know what to do, so I just didn't say anything. Then, I guess she thought I was just being a jerk, so she REALLY started to put the screws to my teeth--like she was angry. I've had teeth pulled, braces, the works, and this was THE MOST painful trip to the dentist I have ever had. Don't go here until they take the TVs out and start focusing on their jobs. And I would go ahead and tell your hygienist that you can't talk when they have their hands in your mouth, so they shouldn't take offense when you can't return small talk and start cranking on your teeth and gums. read more

I had been going to another dentist for years but switched after I discovered that they weren't a preferred provider for my husband's insurance. Sunrise Dental is only 2 blocks from my house and had gotten good reviews so I figured I'd switch to them. Before getting into my experience, let me just say that in my life (40 years), I have only had 2 cavities and no root canals or other dental issues. For the last 12 years, I have only ever gone to the dentist for my bi-annual cleaning and checkup. I am lucky to say I have really healthy teeth. Now, on to my experience. Maybe I'm spoiled from the dentist I went to for the last 12 years, but the office also seemed a bit "less" than what I'm used to. Everything seemed a little bit dimmer and less shiny, almost "grungier" without really being grungy. And the staff was doing a lot of hanging around and gossiping at the front desk area - just not the level of professionalism that I'm used to. Not a deal breaker though. I don't go to the dentist for the atmosphere. I was seen quite quickly by the dentist and given rave reviews over the state of my teeth. Then I was moved to a different area for the teeth cleaning portion of the appointment. The scraping process was unbelievably painful and I could taste blood from the beginning (and not just a little bit either). It felt like my mouth was being stabbed rather than my teeth scraped and cleaned. I have NEVER had pain at a dental appointment before. Prior to today, for me, the worst part was the "gritty" feeling from the tooth polish used. But today, now 5 hours after leaving the dental office, I'm STILL blotting blood out of my mouth and my face feels like it was hit by a truck. I'm actually dreading my next appointment in 6 months. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and try one more time, hoping that the hygienist was new or just having a bad morning. But if I suffer this much the next time, I will absolutely be finding another dentist to care for my teeth. read more

My husband had previously gone to this practice years ago and absolutely loved Dinah Vice. We had not been to the dentist in quite a while and went back to this office. We were both told we had to have deep cleanings that combined were over $4000. The process was to do half of the mouth first then come back for the other half. I went first. It was painful but not anything I couldn't handle and the pain subsided in about a day. When my husband went for his first half he had the worst experience so much pain he was in pain to the point he couldn't drink anything cold or hot for over a month. We called and told them how much pain he was in and they asked him to come back in to have it checked. He did and after all of that money and X-rays the doctor said oh looks like we missed a cavity! How??? State of the art 3D X-rays and you missed it. Anyway my husband refused to continue to be treated there and asks for the money back for the half of the treatment that had not been completed. Honestly for the amount of pain he endured they should have given him all of his money back. I went back for the other half of my treatment and it was ok. The final straw for me with this place is I had an appointment for a cleaning in September that I had to cancel due to an emergency. I called this week to reschedule it because I have a plan that expires on 11/15 so if I didn't have it done this week my plan would have expired and I would have lost the money I paid towards that cleaning. I called on Monday the receptionist Annie said she had something "tomorrow" but I couldn't make it in that short notice but I would adjust my schedule if I needed to and then she said sorry someone just booked that spot so she said I could come Thursday at 4pm and I said that date is after the expiration of my plan is that ok and she said yes I'll let them know to honor it. So while we were on the phone I opened my calendar and added Thursday at 4pm to it. I received a call Wednesday saying I was supposed to be there for my appointment and I was like no it's Thursday at 4 and she proceeded to tell me I was wrong. I'm sorry but if it's one thing I'm good at it's scheduling and confirming appointments that's what I do all day long for the business we own. She was not helpful at all and basically said I'll let you know if we get anything else. Besides my husbands experience I really tried to give them a chance but this is unacceptable. read more

This was my boyfriends experience with them: Worst experience I have ever had at a dental office! Over the last 6 months I have had multiple services done here. I pay my bill when I walk out in full right away every time. Over these 6 months the money aquated to over $5,000 l. I would always ask as I'm leaving the office if am I officially paid up and they would always asure me the bill was paid in full. This is where my issue comes in. While I understand that insurance can be maxed out and you are left to pick up the difference, my true issue is with how they go about handeling it. I received a phone call from them saying I had an appointment for a second cleaning through my insurance which would be free. I did not recall making an appointment but I took off work and went in at 8am on a Monday anyways. This was a trick to get me in to pay an outstanding balance that I was not initially made aware of. This was a dirty trick to get me into their office - I would've happily paid the bill if I had been made aware of it but they felt the need to trick me into coming in. As mentioned, I paid my bills with them every time in full and this was completely unnecessary on their end. Once I pay the bill, they walk me towards the back to get my cleaning done, I decided to confirm if my cleaning would be for free. They said no we will have to charge you $100.00 for it as it's not coverd. I was almost tricked into getting another service done with them. I am done with this foresaken place and will never come back. I recommend you do the same. read more

Dr. Vice and his staff did an excellent job removing my impacted wisdom teeth. The experience was as comfortable as can be and the team was very friendly, caring, and accommodating to my needs. I was in and out in under two hours, and very happy with the decision to only use local anesthetic. The procedure was pretty much painless, with only minimal discomfort in the following days. I had my wisdom teeth extracted on Friday. I am from Virginia and drove to Raleigh to have Dr Vice perform this surgery. Hands down the best decision I have ever made. His staff made me feel comfortable and secure in my decision to have him extract my teeth. I'm ALL about you get what you pay for- and if you want the best of the best, I suggest him. I had an unusually difficult extraction and I didn't feel comfortable with anyone else doing this surgery other than him. I am 4 days out of recovery with little to no pain. I didn't have to take any narcotics- just ibuprofen and Tylenol for the minimal discomfort. I have little to no swelling now on the forth day- and plan to return to work tomorrow. Highly suggest this practice for your oral surgery needs! read more

POOR COMMUNICATION!! After arriving to my appointment, being walked to the back, sat in a chair and prepped for my dental visit to have a filling completed, the hygienist hands me a clipboard stating that an amount for the actual procedure would need to be paid first. I explained that I was not made aware of an amount to pay for the filling and could I be billed. She walks to the little station where the finances are handled, I heard her ask the woman and the woman told her, no, that I needed to pay first. I explained that no one told me about an amount (over $100) that would be owed for the filling prior to the appointment. In addition, I was just there for a teeth cleaning the Monday of that same week. I am highly disappointed in the poor communication that I received from this office. I have been a customer of Dr. Vice for years. It's very hard to get an appointment and when you do, the office asks for paperwork to be completed before procedures are done. I feel if a customer takes time to follow the office instructions and complete paperwork, then, they could at least communicate when fees are required before a procedure is scheduled. I wasted my time going to the office this morning, rearranging my schedule to walk out highly frustrated and disappointed and without the filling being done. read more

I have no issue with Dr. Vice's work (besides when he tries to pressure you to get the super expensive implants). He is possibly the best dentist I've ever had, performed my wisdom teeth extraction and several fillings and extractions for my family. My issue is with billing and support staff. The last couple of times that I have gotten a cleaning, the dental hygienist did not clean thoroughly. She barely even touched my teeth. It was no big deal because I clean my teeth well regularly, it's covered by insurance etc. but even with insurance, what exactly is being paid for and why waste my time? This was the last 3 times I've gone for a cleaning, although I skipped my last one because what's the point if nothing is being done? Also, every time myself or someone in my family had some type of dental work, months and this time even almost a year later we have always... ALWAYS received a bill saying that the insurance company charged more and we need to pay them. Never fails. The forms you receive in the beginning is the "approximate cost" and never even close to the actual cost. I use the term approximate cost loosely because they always give you a price that is significantly different than what they say they charge. I can understand if it's a little over or under, but hundreds of dollars is ridiculous. So new patients... expect a $500 bill in the mail months after you've had your dental work done. And by the time you receive your bill, it'll be far too late to say anything about it as the insurance company has already done their part. And don't be surprised if you try to inquire about it with support staff if they give you a snappy attitude like you don't know what you're talking about. As much as I loved Dr. Vice, I am sad to say Sunrise has lost another lifelong customer. read more

Before visiting this office, I had not been to the dentist in years. However, when I had gone to the dentist regularly, I had only had one cavity in a baby tooth, and I took fairly good care of my teeth in general. I had x-rays and a cleaning done. The staff was pleasant, but when they were done with the procedures, they told me that I had six (SIX?!?) cavities that needed to be filled. That didn't sound right to me, so I got a second opinion. I had one cavity that needed to be filled and one that needed to be watched that I ended up having filled eventually. Much better than six. Just be aware that the staff's benevolence may be a guise to get you to return for unnecessary services. Do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of at this practice. read more

I have never experienced so many billing errors from a dentist's office. I have excellent dental insurance and they are in network with this facility. When this location fills cavities, they ask you to pay upfront for the "estimated patient portion" of the bill before they bill your insurance. The amount they collect may be far higher than the actual amount a patient owes once the insurance pays the dental office. They credit your account the difference (which was your money to begin with) once they receive payment from your insurance and it's a huge hassle to get a refund check. The dentist I saw took forever to fill three fillings and they were not complicated, just surface cavities as I go to the dentist on a regular basis. She also charged me a "limited exam fee"on the same day the cavities were filled and most insurances do not cover "limited exam fees" but don't worry, they will just take the expense of the exam fee right out of the money that's sitting in your account from a previous overpayment. They also charge a one time $12 PPE expense. I am going to another dentist that doesn't require upfront payment as most dentist offices just bill your insurance and then send you a bill for the patient amount which is what I prefer. I am giving this review two stars because the hygienists perform excellent cleanings and they are very professional. read more

Not happy. Vice "fixed" a filling that's now sharp all around the edges. He chipped the tooth above it and drilled the tooth in front also sharpening that tooth leaving me in pain. I went back and was given sensodyne. I was pushed to purchase the gold package for the free cleanings only to be told after I paid 300 for it was I told that I don't qualify. I have found the perfect dentist office sunrise dental is the best go see Dr dirk vice he and his staff are awesome. I have an extreme fear of the dentist mainly cause I don't like needles (or pain ) but I had to have my wisdom teeth taken got due to the extreme pain they were causing me. I called in made an appointment (was a lil late I was scared) but they took me right in looked at everything dr vice came in put me at ease showed me my X-rays an gave me a couple options of how to have my pain removed and even offered ways to decrease my anxiety about the procedure I went with option #2 came back a week later (needed antibiotics for a week) had my teeth extracted and feel great now. I was a patient at Sunrise Dental for over eight years. I had decided to get Invisalign in Dec.2017. Everything was great up until April when I was told back in March 2018 that I could get my trays mailed to me since I was working out of town. Never got any trays, I contacted them in Sept.2018, they told me I would have to come back in for a rescan and that I owed a balance. I understand the balance part, but why would I continue too pay for service that I'm not getting? I will never go back to them and I could careless if they don't want me back. I've always paid out of pocket for my dental work. I'll take they $2,000 as a lost. Now, I have these ridges that they put on my teeth that I will pay another dentist to take off!!! read more

I've seen Dr. Willis and Dr.Dirk Vice they have been wonderful to me very gentle and it didn't feel like someone was trying to break my teeth out of my jaw that I have experienced at other dental offices in the past. My family and I have found a new dentist. When my wife fell and broke her teeth we had an impossible time finding an oral surgeon. Our doctor could not get return calls. The emergency room could not direct us. Dr. Vice's staff had us in the office in less than 1 1/2 hours. The surgery required was performed in the office and was so well done we knew we needed to look no further for a well-qualified oral surgeon. The initial results are amazing, but that does not tell the whole story. We arrived at 3:40 and my wife was in a chair and seeing Dr. Vice by 3:45. Dr. Vice stayed with my wife and I until 6:15 when the surgery and other procedures were complete, and he was not alone. There were at least four members of his staff still there, assisting, and helping us. We thanked them for staying late and every one of them insisted that it was not a problem. They acted like they did this all the time. We know that we are not their only patients, but they made us feel like we were. We will not go anywhere else for our dental needs. read more

I have been going to Sunrise for 10 years though the Raleigh office for only the last 3. I have always received a transparent cost estimate before any work done. I have been seen on an urgent basis (same day) for infected root of prior root canal, had them refit a crown, and have had several cavities filled. Dr. Mrs. Vice created a foundation for a crown from basically nothing, and the oral surgeon who did my root canal re-do commented on what an awesome job she had done and that few would have attempted that--all to save me from an implant! Dr. Mrs. Vice and Dr. Chad are the best dentists I have ever been to and that is saying a lot. Had my teeth cleaned today, and the person in front of me in line had an issue with her account. The desk employee apologized and said that they were in the wrong, and that they would write if off. When's the last time you heard that? This review is completely unsolicited.
