Stopped by after my workout this morning and didn't expect much of it but I was wrong. The location is in a small little shopping center but they have been there for 14 years and it is family owned. It's like a Mexican fusion breakfast as they incorporate some Mexican/Hispanic stuff to their breakfast dishes. I had the Baby girls French toast & I don't think I can have French toast any other way now. I'm not sure if it was cooked or dipped in granola but when you bite into the French toast, you get a nice crunch from the granola bits and so many amazing sweet flavors! The portion was huge! My bf had gyro skillet which was something very different for him to try. He said it was very flavorful and he really enjoyed it. I checked in while there & also received a complimentary flan. My camera definitely didn't eat first when it came to the flan as it went straight to my belly. It was a nice dense, not too soft or moist, flan. Not too sweet, just perfect! We paid under $25 for our whole meal which is a pretty great deal for the amount of food we got! We can't wait to try new dishes next time! My best friend and I happened upon the Sunrise Grill en route to a garden center in Des Plaines. We were both hungry and wanted to stop somewhere close to the store. I saw the reviews and tantalizing photos and knew this was the place to go! Walking in, I was extremely impressed by how warm, relaxed and inviting the vibe was. It was homey and not pretentious in the slightest, and the smiles of the patrons indicated to me I had come across something truly remarkable. My friend and I sat in the adjoining room off to the left which was bright and cheery with beautiful, colorful paintings on the wall. My guest had a glass of sunny, freshly-squeezed orange juice (which she informed me was terrific!), and I had a robust, fragrant black coffee which was excellent. Anyone who knows me knows I am an eggs Benedict aficionado. Over the years, I have had countless numbers of them at restaurants, and they ranged from excellent to downright awful. But Sunrise Grill surprised the hell out of me!!! Usually, when one orders eggs Benedict, it comes with two poached eggs. Sunrise Grill serves it --- and get this! --- with THREE eggs! This is their norm! I know! Three eggs! I thought I was in eggs Benedict Paradise! The eggs were poached perfectly, the Canadian bacon was of superior quality, hearty English muffins toasted just right and the Hollandaise sauce was simply sublime with just the right touch of lemon. Hash browns were gold brown, buttery and utterly delicious. My friend had a classic Denver omelette with pancakes. She was impressed with everything! The omelette was fluffy and rich and filled with fresh, vibrant, succulent ham, peppers and onions. The pancakes were also a home run spectacularly prepared and full of flavor reminiscent of those made from scratch at home. Everything we ate had that "homemade" appeal, and yet there was something I picked up that gave our breakfast an elevated stance that can only come from a true culinary chef experienced in fine dining. And, sure enough, the owner, Chef Jose, worked at fine dining establishments in downtown Chicago. I knew there was something magical involved here. Other than phenomenal breakfast selections, they offer extensive lunch items including wow-factor sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads and amazing Mexican fare one is hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Chef Jose really puts his epicurean yet highly approachable skill to the best use for dinner. A virtual feast for the eyes and palate includes sumptuous French bone-in pork chops, 14oz strip steaks, Chicken Vesuvio, lobster spaetzle (can you imagine?), tropical salmon and Lake Superior White Fish Almondine! It's just mind-blowing! This is a dine-in Mount Olympus in Des Plaines! Chef Jose's classic training takes center stage here, and one can immediately tell everything served is meticulously well thought out, sourced and initiated. It's pure perfection. Chef Jose (a master Chef if ever there was one) and his wife Maria opened Sunrise Grill quite a few years back. It has always been a family-owned venture, and the love they and the staff put into it is simply overflowing. Of note, Chef Jose's wife, Maria --- who he affectionately calls "Baby Girl" ---- bravely fought and overcame breast cancer back in 2019. Sadly, as of February, 2024, Maria's cancer has returned causing her to undergo intensive, difficult treatments which has affected her ability to work the restaurant as often as she used to. Yet, the family and staff continue to support the fight against breast cancer and raise awareness wherever and whenever they can. This news has hit everyone so hard, and the effect has been devastating. Yet, the love the family and staff have for their customers is so genuine and so beautiful that it makes Sunrise Grill more than just a restaurant. It is a place to celebrate and appreciate life against so much adversity surrounded by good friends, family and the greatest food in the realization that we are all the strongest together. If you didn't know what to do when you got there you look stupid standing waiting for someone to greet you. No signage telling to seat yourself. Our skillet was overcooked almost burnt. Hardly ate it. We had to ask for syrup and the bottle was sticky . Had to wait for our check after they took away our dishes. May or may not try there again. Needed breakfast stat after a red eye into Ohare. This place had everything one could want for classic breakfast or wholesome and healthy twist. Classic diner vibe with perfect booths by the window where you see your car parked. We shared the Abeulita's Sope Skillet with was 10/10. SO DELICIOUS. And for the sweet side, we went waffle, and while a waffle is a waffle is a waffle, the waffle topped with granola pecans and fresh berries stands above the rest. 10/10 devoured We find ourselves now finishing up the delicious coffee they kept us topped up with, with content bellies and revitalized positive attitudes. read more

Ate here with extended family before dropping them at airport for a flight. Small, unassuming place off a busy street but food and service were fantastic. Hearty portions with all the breakfast favorites you'd expect and great coffee. It's a blue-collar joint and they make you feel at home. Like having brunch at your grandparents house. A squad of Chicago police officers were having breakfast that morning and were polite and playfully interacting with some kids sitting nearby. You can find the typical "diner" fare, but it'll taste a step above. The prices are great and the waitstaff make you feel like one of the family. My go-to for breakfast: Ranchero Nest- amazing. Tonight the hubby and I went for street tacos, nachos, and a side of bacon wrapped dates. The guacamole and salsa were freshly made. The chips were homemade too! An interesting spot for dinner. My partner and I decided to come here before a concert at the Allstate Arena. The atmosphere was a stark difference to the meals they were serving. I was expecting a diner which the decor definitely showed, but the menu did not. The menu had "fancier" options that you might see at a diner but lacked the cheaper options of mozzarella sticks or burgers. The dishes were in the $14-$20 range. The menu was a bit confusing as it seemed like each dish was a different cuisine. It looked like a lot of the patrons were older folk but they were certainly enjoying themselves. The restaurant seemed like it has a BYOB policy which works perfectly with the liquor store next door. I will give a shout-out to the staff who were super friendly and attentive. The waiter put in our app order immediately and the food came out quickly. When I asked for to go silverware for my to-go flan she was super kind about it. Overall the atmosphere was a bit off putting as I felt like I should be eating schnitzel and steak in a more semi fancier restaurant. However, the food itself was decent. We'll probably op for another spot next time we're in the area but this was definitely an experience. It wasn't the place for us but it could be for you! read more

Almost everything on the menu is under $10 -- but tastes just as good or better than several of those expensive trending breakfast places. The staff and service was outstanding. TIP: This place is walking distance from several of the airport hotels. I recommend walking the 20 minutes (weather permitting) just to work up an appetite or work off the pancakes. read more

I dig it. Ended up here since my favorite taco shop wasn't open yet, but what a pleasant surprise Sunrise Grill was. Located in a rather deserted strip mall and not too far from OHare, this one's a good spot to hit if you feel like pit stopping for some cheap diner style food. It honestly reminds me of a much homier feeling Denny's or IHOP with quite the friendly staff serving away and making sure that coffee cup never sees the bottom. Anyways, I ended up doing the Monte Cristo Crepe ~ 2 'crepes' filled with ham, turkey, american & swiss cheeses and served with a generous portion of potato hash. I say 'crepes' as its more the thickness of a pancake and seemed to be served with some syrup already. Either way... a sweet, savory breakfast that kept me full my entire flight to the West Coast. My love did the club sandwich which was plenty and had an awesome ginormous bowl of mushroom soup on the side. Since she loves mushrooms so much, that soup was the focus of the meal for her and I ended up with half a sandwich to take with me on my flight. All in all a very hearty meal. I'd come thru again if I were in the area looking for something cheap and filling. This one easily hit the under $10 per person mark... with tip. Cheap. Filling. What more could you want?
