Went in for breakfast. We were very excited to try this place because of the reviews. We gave our name to the host who then proceeded to check in people ahead of us. We were only a party of two. A large group came in behind us. There were two available tables. Those tables were put together for that group while we were left standing there without being seated. This place is good for traditional American breakfast food! Nothing too crazy but they do a good job with the basics. The food also came out relatively fast after ordering. I got the House Special with over easy eggs, pancakes, and sausage. Everything was cooked perfectly. The egg yolks were runny, the pancakes were fluffy, the sausage had excellent color and flavor. The price of this was also quite good. They even gave me 3 eggs instead of 2! I also tried some of the Sunrise Field of Veggies and hash browns which were both good. The ambience wasn't the greatest and the service was okay, but if you're looking for something quick and inexpensive in the area, this would be a good option. read more

This place is a gem in DesPlaines or anywhere else really. I suspect Juanito or whoever the chef is, use to work at an upscale restaurant at some point in time and then decided - Ha, I gonna hang my own shingle and it'll be in a small strip mall off of Touhy Ave. in DesPlaines. And this high level in details really shows in the menu and presentation. Flan, filet mignon, prime rib, an array of upscale burgers, salad that looks like you're at the Drake on Michigan Ave. It's all a mind bender because there's a pleasant mismatch in food and the humble decor and ambiance. I love Juan's nachos with steak or chicken. The Juanito burger can turn Shake Shack into the Love Shack - the burger will have you feeling that good. Great service, great food, great price. Good service, food was mediocre . Chicken rice soup was very thick with a flat flavor devoid of salt. Had the Juanita burger looked delicious was loaded with salt. My sons strawberry pancakes were not good the berries were not very ripe or sweet. Coffee was superior,didn't taste like it. Food looks good but was below my expectations. My wife and I were looking for a place to eat in Des Plaines as we were in the area. I found an offer for the Sunrise Grill on Groupon for $30 for $15. Yelp rates it 4 stars so we thought we would give it a try. The Sunset Grill is in a strip mall. The interior is a little cheesy & dated. The service was a little slow, but we were finally able to order. The food prices are not too expensive & decent size portions. The waitress was pleasant enough with a good personality and sense of humor. She started with garlic bread that was very good w/butter, fresh garlic, herbs & Parmesan cheese. We scarfed that down very quickly and waited for the waitresses return. When she came back we ordered & asked for more garlic bread. I ordered the skirt steak in a reduced wine sauce (nice presentation) This came with mashed potatoes, yellow & purple cauliflower, split pea soup & a piece of dill for garnish. The soup was tasty, but a bit too salty. The cauliflower & mashed potatoes were nothing noteworthy but tasted good. The main course was the skirt steak w/a wine reduction sauce. It was pretty good, but once again a little too salty. Overall I would rate this 3 1/2 stars, a little better then average. My wife ordered the gyros plate which came with split pea soup, gyro meat, pita bread and a cucumber, tomato & onion salad. The gyro meat was pretty good. I've had worse and I've had better. Solid breakfast. This place is busy so be prepared for a wait but they do seem to move people in and out quickly. I had the pesto avocado omelet. Very good. I would get without the cheese but it was easily scraped off, there was just too much. They accommodated making my guests food dairy free by cooking it dry. Checked this place out for a late lunch with my mom. We split a turkey club, then had the free ice cream with check in, and a warm bread pudding. The atmosphere is pretty casual and feels like a time warp, which I love. Old Frank Sinatra music playing, older couples splitting bottles of wine. Service was friendly, and one of the servers but a fresh pot of coffee on for us, which was very good and considerate. The turkey club was good, but they do use lunch meat not fresh carved turkey, if that's a deal breaker for you. I assume that's because their more elaborate dinner specials are probably the main draw. The fries were actually amazing, and I'm not a huge fry person. They're lightly battered and very crispy, even do well as left overs. The bread pudding was on point and I couldn't pass it up. It's hard to find places that make a good bread pudding. Would come back for this and the coffee alone. The ice cream was butter pecan, nothing crazy, but tasty. The dinner entrees looked really good coming out. I've been to the Sunrise Grill for dinner several times. They offer a diverse menu with an emphasis on comfort food and the food is not only delicious but reasonably priced. We just celebrated my parent's 70th wedding anniversary in their private room and were served family style. Cloth napkins, great salad fixings including delicious goat cheese and various fresh toppings, garlic bread, chicken, roast beef, pasta, two kinds of potatoes (oven roasted and twice baked)-all delicious. Sunrise is BYOB but they set out wine glasses for us. Best of all we were served by Dorata and Judy, who genuinely care and take pride in doing an excellent job! This place is amazing!!!!!! We all have our breakfast joints, and pre-pandemic I had never been in here. (And I live a block away) However, my place closed and didn't even due curbside. Sunrise was there to the rescue for our Sunday morning breakfast! Jovanni patter is amazing and the price you cant beat! It fed my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 high schoolers) Nobody went hungry! For Father's Day ordered off the menu, and it was delicious! Once I'm comfortable on going inside, this place is our new Sunday morning place! AND each time I paid a different price anywhere between $4-$5 depending on the cashier's mood (I'm assuming.) I have NEVER received a receipt and the cashier just opens the register and deposit the money and gives me my change. Also, the bacon is always cold. Who likes cold bacon and hot eggs?
