We purchased a half hog from Wild Edge Farm and they contract with Sunrise Meats for processing/butchering. I stopped in to talk with someone about how this works and the staff member was very helpful and patient as we had not done this before. He went over a checklist of how we wanted parts cut (chops, package weight, etc.). Three weeks later, we are stocked with all things pork! Packages are clearly marked with contents and packaged so they can go right into the freezer as is. It was a very easy and smooth process from start to end. The facility is all business--refrigerators with many choices of various smoked meats and an open butchering (?) section that can accommodate lots of staff to do what they do and a small office. We didn't buy any of the smoked meats when we picked up the pork, but my husband went back to buy some landjaeger out of curiosity. It was delicious! Not sure how to describe it--a toothy, meaty better than your usual beef /pork jerky. So, we went back another day and spent way too much on smoked salmon, teriyaki pepperoni sticks and many, many more packages of landjaeger. I really enjoyed the white salmon because it was less salmon-y/fishy (I'm not a huge salmon fan); husband preferred the red King. The teriyaki pepperoni are way too easy to eat and are not overly sweet. It's more like essence of teriyaki which I very much enjoy. I can't wait to try more of their products! read more

A local gem. Everything I've had from here is delicious. The bacon they processed for us is thick cut and perfectly smoked. The smoked salmon is fantastic, as are the teriyaki and jerky sticks. The best part is the staff are super professional and friendly, even though it's a super intimate shop where you see them butchering right before your eyes. We were visiting Port Angeles and wanted some smoked fish to take with us on our travels. Found this place on Yelp and gave it a try. Wow! The selection was great: king salmon, sockeye, salmon jerky, salmon pepperoni. Everything we bought was fantastic. The owner was as friendly and helpful as could be, he packed everything up with ice so we could take it on the road. I'm thinking of getting some by mail, it may be too expensive with the shipping and handling. If we are ever back in Port Angeles, we'll be stopping by! read more

We go fishing on the rivers in the area several times a year and bring the fish back to Sunrise for processing. The next day we pick them up, fileted, cut and sealed in freezer bags, frozen and all ready to just put in the freezer. They do a great job and the cost is really reasonable. We also have some of the fish smoked, they do an excellent job of smoking and packing the fish. Five Stars! read more

The Finest butcher shop I have found in the Northwest so far. Do not expect a kitschy, pretty tourist trap. It is not one of those -thank God. It is going to be a place where you find the hidden treasure stowed in the fridge and freezer. Smoked meats and fish!!! These honest, hard working men (you'll see them busily working behind the counter) aren't salesman, just local farm type-boys and Damn good butchers. Get in the fridge and freezer and spend all you've got. I'm not kidding. The prices are Low and you'll almost feel guilty, like you bought a Stradivarius from a kid for $100 bucks. This stuff is fresh, tasty and cheaper than anywhere I've seen. Load up on the Salmon sticks, and every kind of jerky you like. I'm sure the fresh meats are good too, -hell, they're cutting it right there in front of you- But, their Jerky and smoked Salmon is where I spent my time & money. As soon as I know I'm in the State of Washington, I think: "can I swing through Port Angeles?" Don't make the mistake of buying only a little! I did, and had to drive 60 miles each way, to go back & stock up before I left the state. Go big or go home!!! read more

This place is really great. When I'm going to Port Angeles, I make sure to take a cooler with ice because I always plan to stop at Sunrise to stock up. I stopped at this small meat market in PA on my way back to Seattle. It was clean inside and a local was picking up some grass-fed ground beef while I was inside. I picked up a package of smoked salmon and chipped beef for myself. The salmon was fantastic, great texture and flavor, as good or better than what's at Pike's Place Mkt where I normally get my fish. Chipped beef was gently seasoned and good for breakfast gravy. Sunrise is worth a look if you're passing through Port Angeles. read more

About 4 years ago, we were driving through Port Angeles and drove past this place with a sign that said "smoked meat and fish." It was nothing fancy. Just an old school butcher shop. On a whim, we went in to see what they had, and we ended up buying some smoked black cod (what the Jews call Sable). Man. That was some good stuff. Unfortunately, we forgot to take note of the name of the business. So the other day, when we were driving through Port Angeles again, I wasn't sure we'd find it. But with the help of Yelp, we did. Smoked black cod was still great. It's not cheap ($26/lb), but damn, it's good. Bought some jerky too. It was also good. They had king salmon there that looked really nice as well ($12.99/lb), along with various and sundry raw and smoked meat items. As the other reviewer said, I wish this place was in Seattle, so I could go there more often and get that black cod. If you find yourself near Port Angeles, this is a must stop place. read more

I stumbled into this place one day. A bit nondescript. I tried the different varieties of smoked Salmon. I realized it was the firs time I had GREAT smoked Salmon. And out of the different kinds of Salmon, I recommend the Sockeye. DEEP red, and amazingly tasty. read more

This is in regard to their custom butchery services, not any other part of the business. We were quoted one price and ended up being charged double. We paid, unhappily, but really this was a failure in communication on their part, and they did nothing to make it right. We ended up slaughtering an extra animal to meet the minimum costs, all to be charged double anyway. Also, the packages we received were poorly labeled, just a few stamps rather than any indication of what part of the animal it came from. None of the packages were weighed, and we're kind of doubtful we got everything back. I've spoken to a few other locals and this is apparently a common occurrence with Sunrise - missing part of your order when you get it back. Finally, the butchering wasn't that good, especially considering the price we paid. A lot of the cuts are sloppy, in that they required additional processing to be ready for cooking. Ribs with extra flaps of other meat still attached, etc. Definitely not impressed, feeling ripped off and will not be going back. I went back in to discuss some of this with the owner and he wasn't helpful or apologetic. We will be driving far out of the way to process the rest of our animals, and would not recommend Sunrise to anyone. read more

I bring all my salmon in to get smoked by Sunrise. They really know what they're doing! They've been in business a long time, and it shows. On 9/21 I Took part of my deer in and got 7 pounds of burger/7 pounds of jerky and 8 pounds of jalapeño pepperoni sticks done. I already picked up my burger and jerky. I got the phone call that my jalapeño pepperoni was done and ready for pick-up. I live in sequim (about 1/2 drive to Port Angeles.) So I drive to Port Angeles and wait for probably 20 minutes and they can't get a location on it. So I tell them I will come back another time and give them so time to find it. I called and the owner Steve said he couldn't find my deer but he would make it right and when I come in my pepperoni will be ready for me. So today 10/24 I went to pick up my jalapeño venison pepperoni sticks. He grabs pepperoni sticks out of his sale refrigerator, I look at the pile he is pulling from and on ingredients it clearly says "beef, pork" so I ask him if it's beef and he tells me it is. I tell him I brought in venison and my order was for jalapeño pepperoni sticks. I told him I didn't want beef pepperoni sticks I want what I brought in. "I wasn't under the impression you wanted venison" was his exact words. That's what I brought to his shop so of course that's what I'm expecting. Then he tells me if I want deer I have to pay $8-$10 a pound for the deer then he will make it into pepperoni sticks. (After he lost my 8 lbs of pepperoni sticks) and I will have to pay the price of labor. The whole time he had a horrible additude and then I asked how he was was gonna make up for the now 2 drives to Port Angeles and back that I have had to make for his company telling me that my 8 lbs of version jalapeño pepperoni sticks were done, when they were not. Exact works were "where do you live" so I told him Sequim and he said "your really telling me you didn't come to pa for any other reason" and then told me once he got my order he would fedex ship it to me. I will never bring another animal to this shop. My first and only experience with them has been down right awful. My first deer and I don't even get to eat it because his shop lost my deer pepperoni sticks. read more

We went in with a friend to purchase half a cow. Went to pick it up and had a lot of trouble getting order straight as it was not ready. Do not have a variety of cuts, and all but the T bone is so tough you need to grind it up or cook all day in a slow cooker. Never again. Finding new butcher shop. read more
