After our trek up Mount Storm King we met up with Aunt C. to grab some brunch. Those switchbacks certainly worked up an appetite for both of us and we had just missed breakfast at the lodge we were staying at. Dillon found Granny's cafe nearby and that it was opening in about 15 minutes. We headed there and thankfully we got there right as they opened. Several parties entered shortly after us so luckily we grabbed a 3 top and checked out the menu. We each ordered a chocolate malt and a basket. My boyfriend and I chose the burrito basket and Aunt C. got the breakfast sandwich basket. When you walk into Granny's cafe you are immediately greeted by the vintage decor and the friendly employee at the counter. Once we sat down I had time to take it all in. Just above us was a ceiling shelf displaying a bunch of different salt and pepper shakers. A piano sat behind us with an old meat grinder nearby. They had some shirts for sale and a restroom just outside. An eclectic mix of vintage decor and several tables to serve guests inside and outside. Once the food came the three of us were famished. The chocolate malts were thick and delicious with a hefty dollop of whipped cream on top. Portion sizes were on point for our hunger needs, we were unable to finish everything. The burrito was stuffed with fresh spinach, tomatoes, cheese, and choice of meat. I got the sausage and all of it together was flavorful and hearty. This little cafe is certainly worth stopping at, be sure to check their hours before getting excited. It worked out that they opened at 11 on this day after we had filled our morning with an adventurous hike. We drove by a few hours later and noticed they got a lot busier after they opened, we were thankful we got there early and filled our tummies to get us through the rest our day. The Granny's burger was good but the tomato bisque was just OK. My husband ordered a piña colada shake which cost an extra $1.25 but was the told they were out of it. Quaint little place but offers a variety of options for lunch/dinner, desserts (including the largest soft serve cone I have ever seen) and entertainment in their backyard. They even have a rotating menu with specials. First of all, prices are reasonable compared to other restaurants in PA. Super cute, retro style with friendly service and even their own merch. Lots of seating available indoors and outside. You can enjoy having your lunch while watching free roaming chickens. There are Emus, donkey and a cat who we didn't get to meet. What a vibe! The burger was tasty, although meat patty was a bit bland, underseasoned but overall great burger. The garlic parm fries were GARLICKY! A bit too oily for me but perfect for garlic lovers. For dessert we shared their warm 6 inch blackberry pie with soft serve on top. I've read amazing reviews about this pie but Too many seeds for me. The crust was delicious and thin how I like it. I was recommended Granny's Cafe place by many different people, and it definitely lived up to the hype! I like that you order with the cashier and they deliver the food to your table, so it's like partial food service. This is great for people coming in groups so you don't have to worry about splitting the bill. I ordered a grilled cheese with cheddar, and egg added inside. I do wish the cheese was a little more melted, but the bread was perfectly crispy and soft. For my side I chose the tomato bisque, which was pretty creamy and lacked a strong, tangy tomato flavor. I would skip the tomato soup next time and opt for a different side. The sweet potato fries were DELICIOUS, they were so crispy on the outside and not soggy. I do wish they had different sizes for the sides, because the full order of sweet potato fries is huge and a little excessive if you're already ordering an entree that come with a side. There is an extra charge for ranch dipping. My friends were all happy with their food. There is a bathroom that also brings you to free roaming chicken! This tiny cafe in the middle of seemingly nowhere is a must-try! We had booked a cabin nearby and were recommended this spot with their homemade pies. After a hike, we came for burgers! I had the chickpea burger, which fell apart as soon as you held it (but the bun was delicious). The truffle parm fries upgrade was 1000% worth it. My partner had the whirly burger with clam chowder (which she said was local but not made in house). Both were yum! The clam chowder was perfectly creamy (not chunky if that's more your speed) but had little clams. The blackberry pie (not pictured because we ate too fast) was also so sweet and had the best crust! Service was kind and helpful when asked. You order at the bar and then clean up after yourself. There is a lot of seating inside and outside (under cover, as well). We went here on our way from Hoh rain forest to the Olympic national park . Lot of people were there but parking was easy . The parking lot is not concrete surface though but it wasn't a big deal for us . The staff is super friendly and greet you with their big smiley faces. I saw lots of people were getting soft serve and the amount of ice cream in each cone was insane. We took fish and chips , house salads and chicken strips . All of them were super yummy and super fresh . Lots of dressing options available for salad as well . Another interesting thing I found was they have a small area in the back where they have some animals and birds like roosters, ostriches and goats and they encourage people to go and check the area out with kids . Granny's Cafe is a restaurant randomly located literally in the middle of nowhere, with no other businesses or buildings other than the inn that it's attached to, within eyesight. The interior is very homely, filled with knick knacks with fiddle music playing in the background. The restaurant interestingly is counter service, so it's pretty casual. The best part of the cafe are the animals in the backyard. Two friendly emus, two goats, and an entire flock of hens. There's also supposed to be a barn cat, but we weren't able to find it, probably due to the fact that it was raining. Garlic Parm Fries ($9) - These seem like commercially purchased thicker fries, fried until steaming hot, with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. They are drizzled with a thick dressing-like garlic sauce, rich with garlic flavor. The sauce is served cold, so it's a bit of a surprise when biting in at first. There's also cold parmesan shreds sprinkled on top. Unfortunately, the fries aren't warm enough to melt or even soften the cheese. Still, there's a good ratio of topping to fries, and it certainly tastes good. I just wish the garlic sauce was warmed up before being added. (4/5) Blackberry Pie ($8.5) - They had two choices for the their famous 6 inch pies - either apple or blackberry. We went with the blackberry, which is served room temperature, rather than warm. There's some nice crunchy granola bits baked into the top of the pie. The filling has a lot of whole blackberries, complete with seeds. It's sweet and not too watery, with great blackberry flavor and a pleasing level of tartness. The crust is the weakest part of the pie. It's not flaky or crisp, and instead of kind of like clay in texture, doughy, and drier than it should be. It doesn't feel fatty or buttery at all. Perhaps shortening is used as the fat base? It really reminds me of a premade frozen pie crust - functional, but not very high quality. (4/5) Granny's Cafe is definitely a fun place to visit, especially because of all the animals running around. It's just a nice stop before or after a hike in the Olympics. Then on the way to the car my husband unthinkingly used his vape and the same girl leaned out the window and snottily asked he not do that by her open ice cream window. Restaurant was closed. We stopped twice when visiting Olympic. So good after hiking. We had a cup of chilli and split a quiche. Everything tasted homemade. The quiche had a puff pastry crust. So good. Food was great. We had to return for the Blackberry pie. It was excellent. A great size for two people to split. We got the pie ala mode, but it was soft-serve, and I would not get it again. We first visited the animals - they have chickens (including 2 that were the largest chickens I have EVER seen) and emus. Then we went inside and decided to order some food. The tuna melt had a lot of onions in it. If you don't like onions, don't get this or see if they can make it without. The clam chowder was delicious and hit the spot. I had to get a side served vanilla ice cream for dessert. It tasted like heaven. While waiting for my food, I went to visit the resident emu, goats and chickens. The inside has an "old" feel and is very nicely decorated with antiques. The outside is like being in a fairytale! There is foliage everywhere and they have animals you can look at while you wait for your food. There are also places to sit outside to eat. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so happy and welcoming! The food was good as well. The menu is basic, but everything was well executed. As is the case for a lot of folks, we stopped by this location while at Olympic National Park. The service here was incredibly nice - the woman taking our order was really friendly and provided good details about the various soda options they had. The farm backyard with emus was really cool. The food itself was excellent: the hamburger was incredibly juicy and the bun very tasty. The sauce is on the lighter side - they use a housemade burger sauce with a pretty subtle flavor. I got a float with Marionberry Creme soda: this was incredible. I've never had Marionberry before but it was perfectly sweet for a soda and to go with vanilla ice cream. I'd highly recommend getting this if you want a float. read more
