We were excited to try this place but were sadly pretty disappointed. The steak we ordered medium rare came out medium well. The fried oysters were subpar and the risotto was not great. We didn't have our order taken for 20 minutes after we sat down. The only dish that was worth getting was the halibut which was pretty fresh. The Mac n cheese was okay but didnt taste much crab. Spending one night in Port Angeles on our way to Victoria BC. Tried 929 and it was awesome. The service was excellent, the ambiance in an old house echoes the BnB we were staying at as well. We each got a house side salad and both loved them. My wife got the Bleu Cheese and I got the ranch. Everything is made from scratch and the salads were wonderful. This was a delightful evening. We were quickly greeted and decided to sit inside, although the view outside might have been a better choice. We had a great appetizer. Smoked salmon and Brie. I got the pork chop with mashed potatoes and my wife got the pasta primavera. We both loved what we ordered. We were stuffed but thought that we could handle splitting a crème brûlée. It was delicious as well. Everyone was great. The pork chop was thick and cooked perfectly. It was not dry at all. The service was friendly and they were attentive to refilling our water. The smoked salmon with Brie cheese and roasted garlic was an unusual but thoroughly enjoyable appetizer. It surprised me because it never occurred to me that such combination could work but it did. The highly praised filet mignon was just soso in my book. The coffee rub didn't work; it was somewhat acidic like a lemon component with an otherwise flat tasting piece of meat. I also couldn't tell that it was grilled over wood fire.... But in all fairness, it was served at the correct temperature medium rare - see pics. Service was on point. Food is good... service was good... but when asked if we could have more bread to dip into our steamed clams juice we were told NO... it seems they only make enough bread unless you are willing to pay for it as extra but we weren't told we could have had another very thin slice for extra money or we would have gladly paid for it. Instead we weren't told there wasn't enough bread to go around. Bread is flour, water and yeast and they didn't have enough to go around. We spent 145.00 plus 25.00 tip and still could not have one extra thin slice of bread for our clam Sauce. Upon speaking to the owner... he said if we had told the waitress and That we would gladly pay for the extra bread we could have gotten it ...which tells me .. there really was enough bread to go around ... it was all about the money..,when I approached the owner he said he was going to call the police on me ...but he would not come over and talk to be because he was busy. He finally came over and again if we had told the waitress we would gladly pay extra for the bread he would have given it to us. Experience.... NO... I will never go back there again Willing to bet he won't be there next year... Visitor on get a way from Calif......also they charge for using a credit card .... My bf & I stopped here while visiting from TN. The ambiance, hospitality, and food was amazing. Not to mention we were loving the music playlist. The staff was very attentive and devoted to making our experience a good one. It was my birthday and they accommodated candles in a delicious cheesecake from the menu. We came and he said sorry weren't taking anymore tables and they are full. It's 7:07 and they close at 8. I told him I just called and he said to come down. He just said sorry there's more tables now we can't. There were only 5 parties on the list.... Terrible service. Don't recommend. This is one of the better restaurants that I tried in Port Angeles. The service was good, just a touch slow (thus making this a 4 rather than 5 star review....I'd probably rate this restaurant 4.5 stars if that were possible). So I had lots of clam broth and 2 crackers. Would have enjoyed bread or even offered a spoon. Staff apologized for no flat bread. We had been here at least a month prior and had same specials. Dylan, our server, made excellent recommendations from beer and wine to our entrees. Our appetizer was the Manila clams in a delicious garlic butter broth with grilled lavosh bread - yum! I had the halibut special and my husband had the seafood pasta special - both were ample servings and deliciously well-executed by the owner/chef! Very nice dinner spot. Up on the low hill above the town, this former house was wildly popular. Inside seating was tight, which is why the back yard was literally loaded with families. After quite a wait, we got a table inside. Surprisingly, this mom and pop operation had the woman taking orders and serving, while the man put every meal together in one of the smallest kitchens. I could watch him from my seat. Amazing. This was early evening, so a few items on the menu were not available. Not a problem as the menu had plenty of choices which would satisfy us. I had baby back ribs ($27) that were very good. Wife had a filet steak ($38) which she said was perfect. There were seafood, pasta, pizza and appetizers. Good man-food. We arrived here for an early dinner. There is a parking lot on the side. This place looks like a cute little house with lots of windows. There is a little sunroom when you enter, and there are bar stools there with counters. It looked cute! We got in and there was no wait. We sat outside in the patio, which has a nice setting and ambiance with the string lights. We ordered: Manny's Pale Ale Rosé Cedar Planked Seafood Platter Service was on point, fantastic! Our server was very attentive and kind. She asked about our trip, and recommended that we go to Hurricane Ridge. The restaurant and bathroom were very clean! Today, I had company from LA, we came before 4:30, waited, my husband was supposed to join soon, but we were told we couldn't be seated until all party was present but we could wait in the 'sauna" hot porch. This after a hot day of showing our CA friend our glorious PNW. Not the host fault but owner policy. BAD policy. We would have had drinks and appetizers and all would have had dinner. First, I will start out by saying we have operated our own restaurant in Seattle for 12 years. We understand that you can't execute 100% all the time. But we also understand that how you react to those inevitable missteps is crucial. We came back to Pt. Angeles for our second New Year's visit in two years. Last year we ate at this restaurant and had a great experience. This year we made reservations for 5:30. We were not seated until 6:00. We understood. The restaurant was very busy. We brushed the delay off. The problem came with our dinner. I ordered the $50 special that included two beef medallions, each 4 oz., in a delicious sauce. The first medallion was great. The second medallion was half gristle. I tried to chew through it, but could not. Just not a great cut. We asked to see our server. When she arrived, I mentioned the problem with the entree, and asked her to mention it to the kitchen and if we could get a discount. She said she was not allowed to give discounts. She offered two free beers - a likely $3.00 total cost to the restaurant - and that was it. We came home to Seattle the next day. On the 2nd, I went to the restaurant website and messaged management, giving the details that I just gave here. No response. I messaged again 3 days ago, again asking for a response. Nothing. We will not be back to the 929 Woodfire Grill. Also, we will tell everyone we know about our very disappointing experience. - Craig C. read more

As we entered the restaurant we stood awkwardly inside the door thinking we were at the greeting station; host station. For just a brief moment we were there BUT what I heard was "everything we make we prepare fresh. We don't have a freezer or a microwave" BOOM count me already pleased. We came during the fire season of 2020 and my phone (which is never wrong) says it's only 59 degrees outside but we also chose to sit on the deck. Like many of the other reviews I was delighted to discover this place and have since saved as a "Need to return Spot".
