My story starts in 2022. The sales person was great. Knew exactly how to 'sell' a system. Shame on me for not educating myself further. July/August 2023, less than a year after my install, I called and complained about my electric bills being nearly $700.00 for two months, they informed me the inverter was bad and that they would repair. I asked for the credits and a check sent to me for the difference in average projected production and actual production for the months in question. September 2023 I spoke to someone in customer service and requested escalations. Never got a call, but a check was cut as a courtesy refund in the amount of $200.00 which arrived 60 days after the expiration of the check date. After months (years really) of frustration and anger with never hearing from someone, I finally get through. I have a roof leak caused by the install. A year after my initial call in January 2025, Isaac wants to sell me more equipment, which, I desperately need... but will not be getting from Sunrun, sends an email and miraculously someone is coming to check my roof. February 2026, and I am told the issue with my roof is not covered under my 24 year solar penetration warranty. I figured as much... why take ownership! I was told today (March 11, 2026) when I called to follow up with the roofing issue and request a temporary removal of the panels, it is going to cost ME approximately $300.00 PER PANEL to remove and restore. If I do not use their 'partner' Remy Roofing, then my warranty will be void. I am in property management and if I had ONE vendor that completes ALL THE WORK... I AM BEING SCREWED. And this is the case. I also asked for escalations today in hopes that someone can tell me more about my 2023 issue whereas my electricity bill from NV Energy was $1,800.00 and when I called in 2023 to request a refund of my monies, I was told that she, Tania, was unable to see billing information but would have someone look into it and reissue IF POSSIBLE. I again asked for escalations and was told that "escalations managers may or may not call back. When they can, they typically will save time and email." And that "the company is built on the customer receiving the most knowledgeable assistance with the agent, rather than a supervisor/manager." Stating "she uses the system more and frequently takes calls therefore she knows more than the manager." So much more to say... but this is the shortest I can make this. From 2023 to present year, there have been no notes of the 17 calls I made to them. It took a live person trying to sell me more crap from this crooked company to get anything moving. Customer Service is not anything close to what SunRun offers. If you are foolish enough to deal with this loser company, once the sale is made, good luck as you are now on your own as they don't value you at all. After the sale is made, you're screwed. They severely underestimated the number of panels needed, resulting in nearly a $600 electric bill the first year. It nearly took us getting our attorney to get this resolved. They lied saying additional panels could not be added which was not true at all. Do not trust Sunrun. They completely took advantage of my elderly father. Their improper installation of two solar arrays caused severe structural roof leaks over the garage. When my elderly father called to report it, Sunrun gave him the runaround, blamed him for the leaks, and ignored him through TWO FULL WINTERS.I had to step in to protect him. Sunrun's own third-party team did a water test and watched the water pour into the garage. It has now been over two months since that test, and they are still stalling, claiming they "don't have the report." Meanwhile, a local 5-star roofing company came out and gave us a full report in 2 days.Because of Sunrun's 2-year delay and victim-blaming, my parents now have a massive 5x5-foot dry-rotted hole in their garage, rotted structural 2x4 beams, and active mold growing in the ceiling framing. This is a severe health hazard to elderly homeowners. To make it worse, Sunrun removed half the panels over a month ago during the hottest part of summer, leaving my parents with skyrocketing utility bills and zero timeline for repairs.Sunrun will damage your home, blame your elderly relatives, and run away when their installation fails. We are filing official complaints with the California CSLB and the California Attorney General for elder consumer abuse. Avoid this company. read more

I referred a close friend to Sunrun after being explicitly promised a $1,000 referral incentive if they moved forward with an installation. My friend did proceed, the system was installed, and all contractual obligations were fulfilled on their end. Despite this, I never received the promised referral incentive. I have made multiple attempts to resolve this issue through customer service and by contacting the original sales representative, Jake Denniston. No one has returned my calls or followed up in any meaningful way. I was later told that the referral incentive would come out of the salesperson's commission, which raises serious concerns about how Sunrun administers and honors its referral program. What's most disappointing is not just the missing incentive, but the complete lack of accountability and communication. I referred Sunrun in good faith based on the representations made to me, and I feel misled. This experience has damaged my trust in the company, and I would not recommend Sunrun to others unless they are prepared to get everything in writing and chase down promises that should be honored automatically. read more

This is a follow up on previously review of Sunrun. If you are like me, you on looking at Yelp reviews because you are looking for reviews on a particular business. In this case Sunrun Solar. I wish I had this service 14 years ago. In my case the installation went well. Over the years the panels themselves have performed as expected, however you are going to have things go out and it is how the company responds to these problems that defines a good company form a bad one. Sunrun is one of, if not the worse company to deal with after the system is installed. Each time I had a problem IE.. Inverter going out, optimizer failed, cell card failure, sunrun made every excuse to avoid repairs. I have a 20 year, pre paid system where I take advantage of all power produced, and as per contract, Sunrun is responsible for all repairs. In addition, contract states should I go outside sunrun for repairs, the warranty is void. In each case sunrun made excuses for not repairing the system. Not until I filed numerous complaints with the BBB, and state contractors licensing Board did I finally get them to fix the issue. It literally took months to get the repairs finally done. When optimizer went out sunrun said the system was still producing what was guaranteed and as such would not fix the optimizer. My thing was I bought 19 panels and I expect all 19 panels to work. He laughed and said, what you want free power ? You did not pay for 19 panels, you paid for a minimum amount of power which you are getting. Most recently communication on my H Wave Inverter stopped communicating making it impossible to monitor my system via the Solar Edge App. When I called Sunrun to lodge a complaint, I could not understand anything the agent was saying due to a language issue. She did not have the slightest understanding of the system and was depending on a computer knowledge base. I specifically told her it was a communication issue, however she listed the problem as system under performing. When they checked the system they told me all was well as system was performing as designed. What the hell! I told them the cell phone card on the mother board was out. I knew this as it had happened before. After speaking to a so called customer service specialist, I was told all they really are concerned with is that the system is producing. The fact a part in the inverter was not working was of no concern to them. However should I want a technician to come out and check the system, I needed to pre sign an agreement to pay $600 should they find the system performing properly. Based on previous conversations I was sure they would say the system was working, ignore the communication issue and charge me $600. My advise is to stay as far away from Sunrun as possible. If you are considering adding solar power to your home and are looking at Sunrun, I strongly urge you to choose another company. Partnering with Sunrun has been a regrettable experience. In late 2020, we decided to install solar panels primarily to enhance resiliency during frequent power outages. Prior to solar, we had a 10kW generator with eight backup switches connected via a 50-amp umbilical line--a highly effective system given that, living on the Northern California coast, we experience 20-25 outages annually. We received our permission to operate (PTO) from PG&E in September 2021. From the beginning, I made it explicitly clear to Sunrun that backup power consistency--not daily energy production--was my primary concern. While the panels themselves have performed adequately, the battery system setup has been a complete failure. Instead of prioritizing self-usage as requested, Sunrun configured the system so that my batteries discharge daily to benefit PG&E, not us. Our two batteries, which should store about 19kWh combined, are drawn down to roughly 30% capacity by 5 p.m., even before sunset. I repeatedly asked Sunrun to adjust the settings to "Prioritize Self Usage," but they refuse. As it stands, PG&E profits by purchasing our excess energy at $0.04/kWh and selling it back to us for $0.11 to $0.13/kWh. Each day, I watch power generated by my system be sent to the grid, only to pay PG&E to buy it back later. Sunrun has confirmed in writing that this is their standard operational model. If you plan to go solar with Sunrun, do not add batteries--they do not configure or support them properly. Additionally, although we should be drawing from our stored battery power overnight, we never do. From sundown to sunup, our system draws exclusively from the grid, rendering our investment in batteries essentially worthless. Moreover, when the grid goes down, our system also fails entirely. While Sunrun's service agreement states the system may fail during outages, ours has failed every time over the past 2.5 years, with only two partial successes early on. Throughout this experience, I attempted to work within their system, often receiving sincere communication from an assigned representative who tried to help. However, it became clear even she was kept in the dark. The technicians Sunrun dispatched were underqualified, relying heavily on video calls for basic tasks. Despite multiple visits, the core issues were never corrected. In July 2024, Sunrun claimed the problems were resolved. Yet by the very first winter outage, the system failed again--and continued to fail with every outage thereafter. Despite initiating service requests in November 2024, by February 2025, I still had no response. When I sought to end our agreement, their legal department advised that I would now have to pay simply to schedule a service appointment. Seeking independent evaluation, I contacted a third-party installer. They informed me of the specific technical data they would need from Sunrun to assess our system. When I requested that data, Sunrun refused and instead threatened me--making it clear they do not want outside experts inspecting their substandard installations. Our subpanel is evidence enough; had inspectors visited in person rather than relying on virtual inspections during COVID-19, I doubt we would have been granted PTO. Notably, two weeks after initial installation, a Sunrun technician returned to cable-tie an entire missing line to the outside of existing conduit--something that should have been done properly the first time. Jesus, they called, you look at it and ignore it, they call again and again, you block the number, they call from another number, you block that one they call from another one! You finally give up and answer the phone when you know it's them again based on the number, they ask if you're you and refuse to identify themselves! Hang up and block again. Fine, if you're going to inconvenience my life then I'm going to give you a bad review based on refusing to leave people alone! I've done marketing, that's not how you do it. This includes bait-and-switch, misinformation, and no way of filing complaints to address these issues. Run. Don't walk. Unscrupulous. AWFUL. I've finally hired a consumer advocacy law firm to get me out of the worst homeowner decision I EVER made. Joshua Salazar, the sales rep, took me for a ride. I was 65 and awaiting surgery with severe brain fog and he told me tall tales of economic relief. Lie, lie, lie, lie, lied about everything. It took a year for me to recover from the procedure to be able to deal with the layers of deception. I filed a complaint with the TExas attorney general's office. I am filing a complaint with the FTC, BBB and whatever other agencies governmental and industrial testifying to their unethical, immoral and criminal actions. Zero stars. read more

The worst! client service I have ever seen. SunRun sent a tech to my home because my solar system stopped producing on April 30th. The inverter that I needed was not ordered by SunRun until May 8th. I spoke Asher, a truly uncaring individual, at SunRun today (after many unreturned calls by me) and was told that they were still waiting for the inverter order. Sunrun ruined my home--and refused to take responsibility. They installed solar panels on my house in Daly City, and years later, rain exposed leaks caused by their faulty mounting brackets. One leak was repaired and acknowledged as their fault--but on December 30, 2024, a second leak collapsed my bedroom ceiling. Their own contractors and my insurance provider (Allstate) confirmed Sunrun was responsible. Yet they still denied any accountability. I've spent over $27,000 dealing with the damage, mold, and repairs--while Sunrun buried me in red tape and refused to honor their warranty. If you value your home, steer clear. SunRun is HORRIBLE ! I gave them a referral the sales person Floyd no longer responds BUT he took the referral and got paid. Their customer services is trying to charge us for months that our solar wasn't working. This has been the worst thing that we ever did. I have call after call to them and have NEVER received any worth while customer service. Customers Service is not the strongest suit. I have never been so unhappy with a service . The most absolutely corrupt and dishonest contractor I have ever dealt with. i purchased a nearly useless solar system from them that was activated 7 months ago. it was proposed to cover usage and battery by 134%. instead , it is a dysfunctional system that does the opposite-- my electricity usage is 150% over production and with very little battery storage from the solar panels each month . I paid over 30,000 dollars to get a 60-70 dollar decrease in monthly electric costs. the customer service is nonexistent. they are professional liers. mostly they do not return phone calls or emails. typical responses-- "you got what you paid for, it is your fault for using too much electricity" or "you signed a contract, you have no options. " . The worst decision I could have made. One reason I chose sunrun was because they were affiliated with Costco. Costco probably dropped them due to to their dishonesty and poor customer service. Sunrun is about profit over performance. I have never been ripped off and scammed by anyone more than sunrun. They repeatedly lie. Once you buy their product there is no assistance or legitimate customer service. I am in the process of reporting their dishonest and corrupt business practices to BBB, CA licensing board, and may have to sue them. Sunrun is a waste. the salesman does not deliver on their proposal or promises--- and no help after the sale. also they push leasing. if I had leased their system, then I would be paying Sunrun so I could lose money on my electricity bill. Since Sunrun bought Vivint our solar systems have not ever completely worked. They may have just finished the 2nd installation that was supposed to eliminate pay up with PGE. The installation began almost a year ago. I just paid PGE over $900.00. My original system was moved by Sunrun and my house has still not been repaired. I have tried to get in touch with someone that can help but have not been contacted by anyone except field technicians that are sent to do more work. read more
