In Issaquah for work and decided to check this place out. It is in a strip mall and I will be honest in saying I had some doubts as I walked in, but I am very happy I did. Great "local" feel with many of the patrons and staff seeming to know each other well. The beer menu was far superior to what I was expecting in fact I was very, very happy with it. Several selections from local breweries including Mac & Jack and Ninkasi. I was also SHOCKED when the bartender told me they had Dogfish Head 120 in bottles...thought I went to heaven. Also a special selection on Ninkasi Ground Control. Food menu was large for a place of this size and everything I saw coming from the kitchen looked great. I had the Chicken fried chicken with jalapeño mashed potatoes and it was fantastic. Maybe the best part of the experience was the bartender..."Fish". This guy single handily took care of a pretty good size Cinco De Mayo crowd with extreme proficiency and seemed to know 90% of the people in the bar. This is our family's go to spot. The service is always great, we get seated pretty quickly if not as soon as we walk in, and service is always prompt and attentive. The kids love their chicken tenders here specifically. Everything we've ever tried, which is probably more than half of their menu, has not disappointed. Food = OFF THE HOOK!! Gotta say that was the best GYRO I've had since I was on the lovely Greek island of Ios (one of the few things I actually remember from that place). I had also been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new offering from the people of JAK's Grill, and once again they have delivered the goods. The best way I can describe it is JAK's meets the GasLamp. For non locals that means casual bar feel without compromising a bit on food quality. I have now sampled 4 items from the menu and it's a tie between the gyro and the cheese steak . It isn't Pat and Geno's but it's the closest that I have had west of the Mississippi. Regarding pricing I found it in line with other higher quality "pubs", and when you take into consideration things like real steak on the Philly (no Steak Em's involved), it's more than reasonable. One of the others I've tried is the fish and chips. The server told me it is made with fresh halibut and tartar (note to Cubs.W., I believe that taste was capers, not olives which I thought was muy bien). The Husky gear on the walls was an obvious choice but what really put a smile on my face was when I used the men's room and found myself face to face with the classic Farah Fawcett poster from my childhood (nice touch fellas). read more

Came here on a Saturday night about 5:15pm. Very crowded already. Server greeted us within a few minutes of sitting down. We had a booth by the window. I never understood why seating in restaurants is usually so uncomfortable but now I know. They don't want you to get too comfortable and stay too long!! The booth was a hard wood. Hard. Very uncomfortable to sit on. The menu is huge so prepare to take a while trying to decide what you want. Ordered onion rings for appetizers. They were decent and came with a ranch dip. We both ordered the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich with tater tots. The sandwich was ok, you could tell the chicken was a frozen chicken. I would not order it again. The tater tots, which I thought were a novel idea, were over cooked and very crunchy. Normally crunchy is good but not in this case, the tots were dry. Not sure what happened? Service was good and the server was friendly. Prices are about average for a burger place/bar. Kids are welcome in the restaurant part of the place. Décor is pretty old and could use a sprucing up. All in all it is an ok place but would not go out of my way to come here. Parking is terrible. Expect to walk a ways to get to the door. We went to this restaurant because of a recommendation from a clerk where we had been shopping. What a disappointment! We can't complain about the food because we never had the opportunity to taste any. After checking in inside we were seated outside as requested. There was one other table occupied and the server was bringing their food to them as we were looking at our presented menus. Five minutes later two other tables were seated with menus but we were not acknowledged as to serving water or taking our orders. A couple came in with their dog and seated themselves outside. A server came right out and brought them menus and a bowl of water for the dog. Again we were given no attention. Five more minutes passed and the two tables that were seated after us were served water and order taken. Another server came out and brought the dog another bowl of water and took the food order for that table. This is not a big outdoor area-maybe seven tables. We were not hard to see and every time a server came out we made an effort to get their attention but felt as if we were invisible. Went here to try something new, and realized they are affiliated with Jax, which I have wanted to go to but haven't had the chance. I was severely disappointed with Sunset. The onion rings were good, but everything else was just meh. I was going to get a rueben, expecting that the ~$16 price tag would mean they used real, thick sliced roast beef, but was told it was more like lunch meat. Same with the ~$15 turkey sandwich. I avoid lunch meat so I opted for the caesar salad with grilled chicken. The lettuce, croutons and shredded parmesan all appeared to be from a bag, definitely not fresh cut/prepared/shredded, it was like eating a salad at the airport; not worth the $14 or whatever they charged for it. For the prices they charge and the reputation Jax has, I expected much higher quality food. Also, the ambience is lacking, its just a dark restaurant with a bar and some cheap posters that appear to be taken from someone's childhood bedroom. I am glad I checked out Sunset though because I now have no desire to dine at Jax. Food at the Issaquah Brewhouse across the street is way better! read more

Came here for the first time after a movie at the Issaquah Film Festival last nite based on good Yelp reviews. Wasnt disappointed at all. Discovered Odin beers and the server told us they featured different breweries on tap monthly. Really, really nice beers. I had a great ruben sandwich and sweet potato fries - both delicious. A good casual sports bar. Lots of locals and football fans. I loved that all of their beers and ciders are local sourced. We started with a monthly special - the jalapeño bacon wontons - which were AMAZING! I hope they add these to their regular menu. On the downside me husband ordered tator tots which looked freezer burnt and tasted like they had gone straight from the freezer to the microwave. This happens to be one of my favorite local places in Issaquah. This is a nice looking and well lit mid scale sports pub and ale house with a solid menu and decent beer selection. There are half a dozen different menu items I enjoy thoroughly along with constantly rotating beer choices and bartenders who know how to make a great drink. I think the burgers are better at the nearby brewery but I love the chili verde, wet burrito, hummus platter, veggie burger, and grinder as well as some of the rotational menu items. The Caesar side salad can be fantastic depending on who's in the kitchen making the dressing that day. Also, weekend brunch is awesome, especially after a few hours up on nearby Tiger Mtn. read more

The Ale House is the perfect addition to downtown Issaquah. The staff greets you with a smile and are attentive. Pub menu offers a good variety and pricing is fair for the area. Happy hour has been added and this adds to the value as well. I typically have the French Dip or Cheese Steak sandwiches. Both are great. The aw jus for these sandwiches makes them the best. My hubby and I LOVE the alehouse! The service is pretty awesome and the food is delicious. I have not had anything but fabulous service from each waitress and the manager is very friendly, welcoming, and on the floor with the staff. If you are expecting the same ambiance of Jaks (quiet, calm), just remember this is an Alehouse. It has some of the same quality items as Jaks... like their delicious steak (for a fraction of Jaks prices) and for brunch Potato Pancakes... DELICIOUS! It's not going to be a quiet date night. There are plenty of TVs around to watch the games, and if you're worried about "kids" being noisy, move to the bar section where they aren't allowed. It's our go-to restaurant and I don't see that changing anytime soon. If you've only been once, and had a bad experience, grab a coupon, and go try it again. Our favorite food items are the boneless wings (like no other), Spicy Santa Fe Burger, and Grinder... and of course their generous wine pours and beer selections. read more

The food is absolutely delicious and the drinks are great too. This is a great place for lunch. It is owned by the same people as Jak's which is why the food is so good. One star is being nice, and based mainly on my first visit (with clients) and the food and the failed attempt that the very effort put in by the waitstaff. That visit went well, and the food was decent. Beer selection could be better (considering their direct competition across the street at issaquah brewery. Made decision to bring a couple of work colleagues out for lunch and to watch my beloved Terps crush ECU in the Military Bowl. Arrived at the crack of 1130 (when they opened) and were the first patrons through the door. Staff seemed happy to have us, and accomodated us with a nice table near 2 TVs. However, this is where the pleasantries ended. They were blasting crappy 80s musak (Dire Straights I think, or some sort of disco jazz), we asked nicely to have the sound of the game pulled up. Again, we were basically the only patrons in place at this point, and fully prepared to spend time and money. We were told that they couldn't do that (by waitress). We requested to speak with Manager, and were summarily told that it was the "owners" policy to only play sound for Husky games, and no other sporting events (I presume no Seahawks, no Mariners, no Sounders, no Storm?). Manager refused to make any exception, even after our repeated promises to agree to have it shut down should other patrons actually materialize and complain. No shirt no shoers, no dice! I think that this established (owned and run by the venerable Jak's steaks) needs a small lesson in "the customer is always right" addage or at least a quick visit to wikipedia to look up definition of customer service? Will I be back...no...not with the other options in the area. I wish them all the best watching and listening to their beloved 6-6 Huskies getting trounced by Nebraska. read more
