This place is just ok. Someone had recommended them to me and raved about the food, but it missed the mark for me. I've dined in and ordered takeout and I think their menu is just way too big and varied to do anything right and well. When I ordered takeout, I ordered the sirloin steak. It was overcooked and tough, and the potatoes were lumpy and undercooked. My dine in experience was better and I ordered the chicken fried fillet (NOT a steak to be clear, it's made with chicken) and while the portion of meat was small, it was fried well. The gravy was a little sad but it wasn't the worst I've had. Each time I've been in, the place looks empty, which doesn't feel like a good sign for them. The service is fine, albeit a little slow at times, but maybe they struggle with staffing such a large (and empty) restaurant. The location is great and there's plenty of parking available, so hopefully they turn things around! read more

5 star patio 5 star service 4 star food We had a great time on the patio for brunch the other day- my friend & I had delicious mimosas & our friends got double grey hounds that ended up being $24 each. The menu had a nice variety so we ordered 2 orders of the smoked lox & bagel that were really good other than not enough cream cheese which they brought out more for us. We also shared the turkey melt that was really tasty with lots of turkey & the fries were crispy & delicious that came with it. The owner was so friendly & attentive & asked if we'd like complimentary home ice cream with mango that was amazing & so generous of him! All of the food & drink presentations were just beautiful. A friend and I went to this restaurant at 12:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. It seemed that we were the only ones in the restaurant. It was a beautiful restaurant, but the price for what we ordered was a bit over priced. We ordered breakfast which came with one piece of toast. Today I stopped in for a quick late afternoon bite, sat in the bar area and took advantage of their happy hour. The homemade clam chowder was so delicious along with the samosa! Having never been to this restaurant, we topped in on a Saturday around 11:30am. Interior looks dated and tired like it has had several different owners. Noticed the wine display by the entry which wasn't very full with a lot of empty spots (maybe not a very large overall selection) and many bottles were standing upright. There were a few occupied tables and booths, and we were greeted by a man who was also the only waiter. Glasses for the water were already on the table and there was a capped bottle of water sitting at each table - which appeared to be a bottle that had been filled with tap water and then capped - not sure how long it had been sitting there. Ordered the fish and chips and a sandwich. Sandwich was on the small side but did come with a small handful of fries. What was odd was the small bowl of very light colored brothy looking liquid that was served with the sandwich, which had no taste whatsoever - like a super watered down broth (although couldn't tell what it was supposed to be due to lack of taste)- but the sandwich does not typically come with any 'aus jus'. Served up it was a white plate with a small sandwich and a very small handful of fries. That's it. No garnishes whatsoever. Looked like the sandwich and fries had been slapped on the plate. The fish and chips were underwhelming - 3 small roundish medallions for the 'fish' (one which had an odd taste), a very small handful of fries, and a side of chopped english cucumber with absolutely no dressing - just small pieces of cucumber. Tarter sauce was 'interesting' in that it didn't really taste like tarter sauce and was a small serving - perhaps a tablespoon size. We definitively didn't feel like it was worth the price we paid, because we both left still feeling hungry. Tried it, and not returning. read more

This place was great, both food and service. We came with a party of 4 adults and 2 kids on a Thursday night. There were a few parties there but it was mostly empty. Two different kinds of roll kept us occupied while waiting for food, which took a standard amount of time. The beer list was decent and the folks having cocktails said they were good. I had the cod burger, which was perfect: crisp, not overly breaded, tasty fish cooked right, with fries that also hit the spot. I got to try my daughter's fettuccini Alfredo, which was flavorful and not too heavy, and my son's spaghetti and meatballs, which were very meaty. Others were also happy with their dishes. We had creme brulee, raspberry cheesecake and chocolate mousse for dessert, and they also brought out a complimentary tiramisu. All were delicious! Both tiramisu and mousse can be heavy but these were nice and airy. Service was attentive and helpful throughout. They noticed that my son was enjoying the cherry on his Shirley Temple and brought him a couple more, then brought even more to share with his sister. This really made their night! The prices are in line with what I expect from Issaquah in 2025. We'll definitely be back. There are lots of good restaurants in Issaquah, of course. This one would be a good option for a birthday celebration or nice no-occasion dinner out. read more

We went here Wednesday for dinner, our second visit. Folks, it was so delish!! We ordered the salmon and the grilled chicken burger. Both were absolutely delicious and full of flavor! The fresh veggies with the salmon and the fries with the burger were spot on. The staff is absolutely wonderful!! I really can't recommend Highland Bistro enough! The experience at this restaurant was disappointing from start to finish. Service was painfully slow, and the staff seemed confused. They didn't even know their own menu. Orders incorrect, cold, and brought out separately...forcing all to eat at different times. I know they haven't been open long, but clearly not ready to take on customers. My friend and I gave Highland Bistro a try for breakfast, I love breakfast out! I had looked at the online menu and was excited to see biscuits and gravy. Apparently it is no longer offered, so I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with sausage gravy, as described on menu. My friend ordered the waffle with fruit. After 25-30 min, we inquired about our food and it was brought right out...Luke warm. No sausage gravy on my chicken fried steak, that was actually fried chicken with a clear broth substance over it. When I questioned the waitress where the sausage gravy was she said this was it and they put the sausage and broth in a blender and voile, gravy...there was no sausage. I'm from the south. This is NOT sausage gravy...not even close!!!! My friend had to send her waffle back because it was luke warm, that took another 15 min. Meanwhile, I'm slowly eating my sad cold fried chicken (with no sausage gravy! Blasphemy!) and scrambled eggs. I also had to asked for butter for my cold sour dough toast. The waffle came with maybe 6 blueberries, 6 slices of banana and not "fresh whipped cream" as stated on menu. Instead, a very small quarter-sized dollop of whipped cream from a can. The maple syrup was served in tiny pitcher usually reserved for coffee cream and far from the amount one would use on a waffle! Coffee was also lukewarm and watered down and served with the Coffee Mate individual plastic containers, I would expect half and half in a little pitcher (oh yeah they used THAT pitcher for the maple syrup!). Went to the bathroom before we left and it was poorly lite and trash can full from night before. We were there when they opened at 10am. All in all, it was a sad experience for the amount of money we spent. I do not recommend Highland Bistro. read more

We were looking forward to our anniversary dinner at this local place. However, we found ourselves disappointed. First, not a single customer came in while we were there (from 6-8 on a Wednesday) and it was deathly still. But more, the food was...okay. Well made, and, well, okay. Not interesting or creative or exciting. Just okay. The steak my wife had was smothered in a mushroom sauce, concealing the meat completely. My prawn salad was barely dressed and the prawns dropped on top of a standard green salad with no panache or style. The prawns were fine, the salad ordinary. There are several other places within a block that serve the same kind of fare, but with much more style and interest. Won't be returning. read more

What is with the low reviews? I'm floored. We went there because there was something odd about how the 5 start and less than 2 start reviews varied, and it didn't sit right. And I'm glad we did, because: Food: This place was great. We had the salmon and crab benedict with the waffles during brunch. The waffles seemed so-so initially, but when we added the homemade whip cream and berries, they immediately turned into the best waffles we've ever had - it was amazing. The homemade whip cream was solid quality. And the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Service: The owners are so sweet and kind, they knew the locals, they were there in a jiffy for a refill and knew their menu so well that they could point us in the right direction. Couldn't have asked for more here. Environment: It was clean and so family friendly. Heard this restaurant was opening soon sometime ago. I guess they opened last month. Apparently, the same owners of the last restaurant. My son and I decided to give them a try them, and weren't show if we wanted brunch or lunch. We read the review about lack of seasoning from another patron on December 28th so were prepared for such a situation but we found the food to be seasoned appropriately. I had a classic French Dip while my son had Chicken Alfredo. Fries were good. The cup for the Au Jus would have been better if bigger for dipping it. Just the right amount of food for us. My son was quite hungry and ate 3/4 of what we had. I had the remaining 1/4. All was good, so was service, and cleanliness. We ate in the bar. My son had a Wonder Berry & Vodka drink which he said was good. I had a Dru Bru Hefeweizen. I like Hefeweizen but the beer tasted like a pale ale and not a Hefeweizen. I thought they had poured me the wrong beer so a different person poured me the same beer. I just realized it was the taste of that particular beer not their mistake. I offered to pay for two beers but they only charged me for one. $5 draft beers on Sunday. Quite a deal read more

What a fantastic spot for breakfast. Have been waiting a long time for Issaquah Highlands to have a great spot to walk for breakfast, and this was so perfect. I had the asparagus and mushroom frittata which came with grilled potatoes, onions and peppers, and it was outstanding. I sat on the patio on a beautiful sunny day, which was lovely. The service from Suhasi was wonderful, she could not have been kinder and checked in frequently. The owner came and checked in too after the meal, and was very nice as well. They even allowed me to have my dog outside, and brought him a bowl of water. I'll be coming back here for sure. Can't wait to try out more items on the extensive breakfast menu! read more

Four of us went to Highlands Bistro on New Year's Eve. This was our first visit. The staff is extremely friendly which made our dining experience even more special. I had the Braised Lamb Shank which was outstanding. The others had the Spicy Prawn Linguine and the Chicken Marsala and also enjoyed their meals. My wife and I shared a Caesar salad which was large enough for the two of us. The Crème Brûlée and Tiramisu were great as well. We recommended the restaurant to our daughter who also enjoyed her dinner there this past week. The restaurant is new and we hope home more people discover it soon. read more

I don't know why the highlands can't seem to attract good restaurants, but this place is yet another mediocre, overpriced place that seem to plague this area. It's such a dull environment, with slow service, and food isn't even good. Poor on all fronts for what a restaurant should be. I wish a solid local Seattle restaurant would open an outpost here. I try to review fairly and keep my subjectives out of things. That said, moving on. First, the name Bistro attached to a place of eating is misplaced here. This isn't a bistro, it's a cafe. A bistro is a small/tiny restaurant that has a limited menu of high-end or artisan food. Issaquah Highlands Bistro is not that. I have only had breakfast there, so consider that (but purviewed the dinner menu and was not impressed). The breakfast was a full notch or two below what the Gaslight Tavern or The Egg N Us offer. 12th street diner offers a similar menu and the food is considerably better. My wife had French Toast. It was very pedestrian. Even worse, it came without butter or syrup. It came with two strips of bacon (horribly burnt and had no business on the plate) and potatoes (actually pretty good!). I had a biscuit and sausage gravy. The gravy was obviously made on the spot using cut up link sausages. I'm not much of a cook, but even I know that you use ground pork sausage, so that maximum fat/flavor is achieved. This was tasteless (and meatless) but for the very odd spice they put in (garam marsala, I think). Can't recommend, so sorry. These guys are obviously VERY passionate about wanting to be in the restaurant business, but there is absolutely nothing on their breakfast menu that separates them from the rest and even the basics are pretty average to poorly done. You can go online and find dozes of elevated French Toast recipes, using corn flakes, flavor beads, etc. Know your neighborhood--most of the folks who live up here are well educated upper middle class peeps with sophisticated tastes. I give this place another couple of months before it closes down. Hopefully the next buyer will be looking to take things to a new level. So sorry, bistro.... I love your passion, wish your skills could match. read more

Fast seating, friendly servers and good food. Nice choices on the menu; had the chicken piccata with mashed potatoes and fresh perfectly cooked veggies of Brussels sprouts, broccoli and carrots. Bar menu of both classic and creative drinks. The booths are comfy. Atmosphere is comfortable and reminiscent of family dining in years gone by. Not fancy but comfortable and clean. Went shopping in the area and decided to have lunch somewhere. We saw the new sign in the spot where I think Big Fish Grill was located and gave it a try. It took a little while for the food to come out but it was very tasty. We split the Cod burger with fries and the Cobb salad (I think they gave us the chicken salad by mistake).
