The best God-damn bagel place in all of Sunset Park! Good quality bagels, delicious array of spreads and not to mention a pretty decent selection of quality beers. My boyfriend and I come here every Sunday morning for our usual fix. Oh, and they have online delivery service! How awesome is that! Just go to their website, make the order online, put in your CC information and not much later - BOOM! A good bagel arrives on your doorstep, special delivery. Way too expensive for my tastes. A simple bacon, egg and cheese on a toasted bagel with a large coffee set me back $12 and that's not including tip. Those are Manhattan prices in the middle of nowhere Kensington, Brooklyn. I mean my sandwich was good but definitely not THAT good. Normally I won't simply recommend a bagel place for a meal. But man, this ain't just a bagel place. It's a 24-7 deli made of awesome and win. And they cater, too. Bagels (of course), sandwiches, grilled paninis, wraps, heroes, omelets, quesadillas...the list goes on. Having bagels with cream cheese delivered to you is kind of the epitome of laziness but I was on vacation at my friend's place and we had just spent the last few days running around like Muppets for another friend's wedding. Eh. I'm torn. You know how much I love a good bagel. Rus and I stumbled into Sunset Bagels while we were looking for apartments in the area. I got a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese and he got an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomato and onion. It definitely took over 10 minutes for us to get our food, which was a little surprising (the shop wasn't crowded and it was after lunch time). However, luckily in the meantime, I was able to use their really clean bathroom. A+ for that. After we got our food, we realized that Rusty's bagel was missing the toms and onions. Took them about 2-3 minutes to add those too. L-O-L -- but not in a funny way. In a, I'm serious WTF way. Anyway, my bagel was tasty. It had big bits strawberries in it. Yummy. Rusty said he didn't really like his (which is why he ate half of mine). The lox looked a little bit dry...Which made me sad. $15 for the two bagels, and two OJs isnt too bad though, I guess? Absolutely a disgrace! I do not eat meat and order a Veggie burger with Waffle fries. One hour and 15 mins later my order arrives and it is a beef burger with COLD and stale waffle fries. When I called, the person said they would send another beef and I had to repeatedly explain I DONT EAT MEAT!!! God forbid I told them I was allergic to a certain ingredient! Gave this place a 2nd chance and I regret it. Absolute service. Twenty minutes for an answer. Order came in 45 minutes they said 15-20 mins. Delivery guy calls me that order is outside, come out to pay then says he left order he'll be back in 5 mins. Sunset bagel is very average, I come from Long Island where bagel quality is high. They over charge for an average service, and average food quality. In NYC there are many options, id prefer Bagel Pub over Sunset Bagels every time because they're time efficiency and food quality is a lot better. Especially for the prices they charge. Short version: I paid for my order of 2 bagels and 2 coffees and waited approximately 15 minutes for my order. There were 0 customers, 4 employees behind the counter & a couple guys in the kitchen and one customer came in after me for one cup of coffee - he got it and left. A delivery guy came in picked up the one order that was ready before I got there and the phone rang once and the employees put the caller on hold. The only reason for the one star is for the sometimes decent customer service. I have gone in there and asked for popular begal flavors such as cinnamon raisin and onion and told that they are out (usually between 8-9 am). Ask for a fresh bialy and they are either hard or usually not available. Bagels are cold regardless of the time of day and constantly over cooked. ask for flavored cream cheese and what you get is a cold, hard bagel with a very thin layer of spread. There is no consisten in how your coffee is prepared. I ask for two sugars and milk and I constantly receive way to much sugar or no sugar at all. I went in last evening at 7 pm and asked for an order of chicken fingers. There was only a single customer sitting at a table and one other waiting for an already ordered item. Besides the girl on the register, I counted 4 other employees in the kitchen area. I along with this other person waited for almost 35 minutes before the register girl took the initiative and actually went and prepared the other customers sandwich. After waiting another 10 minute I finally received my order. I live across the street, so this food should have been hot. I opened the packaging and there was only 4 small chicken fingers (they obviously were prepackaged light breaded supermarket kids meal fingers like you would get a a fast food restaurant) and they were cold. For $12 you would expect real chicken, larger size or portion and that they would be hot. This restaurant has only been open for a few weeks and one would expect them to be making an attempt to win over the hearts of their new customers especially since there are several other begat places nearby. If you can't or not ready to give good service, don't open at night. So fucked up that we got sour onion rings. It smelled funky and taste sour. Not edible at all. The silver dollar pancake was half of what I used to got. I called the store about the onion rings and pancake. She, Johanna said that she will refund my $3.50, but she didn't even bother to say sorry that she gave me bad onion rings. Maybe she will be, if I have food poisoning and sue her. About the pancake, i told her why I only got half of it. Her answer was "Oh maybe was just different shift, different people give different portion." Example: ordered an omelette with egg whites they delivered an omelette with regular whites. I call them to tell them about the mistake and how I cannot eat regular eggs and they said I never asked for egg whites and they will charge me the difference. Never ordering from here again. I ordered delivery and seamless told me 30-45 mins, which is hit or miss so I give the restaurants an hour, because nobody needs more than an hour to cook anything anywhere ever. So at the hour mark I call up the restaurant and ask them where my food is and they tell me to call seamless. Um, no, seamless doesn't cook the food, you do. So after a few minutes of very politely explaining the situation, the guy was like ok, we are working on it. Food didn't come for another 30 mins. Did I mention that I live five blocks away? An hour and a half is way way way too long to wait for challah french toast, a few bagels, and an omelette. When the food did come, it was rock solid, like it had been sitting under the heat lamp for the whole 1.5 hours. I literally couldn't even eat it. The omelette was hard and cold and still managed to be watery. The "challah" french toast was just NOT challah french toast, and the "hashbrowns" that came with the omelette were NOT hashbrowns, they were tater-tots. TATER-TOTS. So not only was it crappy food, they make their menu sound better by falsely advertising "challah" french toast, and "hashbrowns" which are tater-tots. That being said, the bagel was a regular rock solid crappy bagel. I ordered the everything bagel and ended up getting a sesame bagel, and PLAIN cream cheese, rather then veggie cream cheese. Well can say much about there bagels, but I will say they have pedestrian sandwiches which take a year and a day to be made. I ordered some hero called the Belly Bomber - which is roast beef, cheese and some sauce. Well it was no bomb and it sure took a long time to make. When you are given a receipt with a number you think service is prompt and organized. No service was non existent. Other people came after me and received orders of hot food before me, WTF. I was patient but annoyed so I asked the counter guy how much longer. He actually went in the back to get this sandwich after 20 minutes. The sandwich left me hungry after eating it so this place really doesn't offer value at a high price. Ten dollars for a hero and it doesn't fill you up, there's something wrong here. It takes 20 minutes to make a sandwich when there was no line that sucks. Starving for a burger I decide to call up the only place I know open 24 hours, Sunset Bagels. Delivery was pretty quick considering times I've waited close to an hour. Upon taking the first maybe 4 bites of my burger, and having 5 soggy fries, I notice my burger pretty much had a pulse. I take a knife to investigate further and to my surprise MORE RED. Businesses like this really piss me off. This is a fairly clean deli. And probably a tad on the expensive side for the Sunset Park area. It has prices closer to what you would expect of a Lower Manhattan deli. While the interior is fairly clean and modern with a clearly printed menu, it does not account for the prices. In terms of the food itself, we tried an egg white omelette wrap and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The sandwich was exactly what one would expect from a city deli but had nothing extraordinary. The wrap was bland, soggy, and leaked water. When we took it out of the paper. It was thoroughly unimpressive. There is really no reason to seek out the shop but if you are passing by and need a quick bite of bagel or an egg and cheese sandwich this place is as good as any. read more

I am amazed everyone here has such glowing reviews about this place. The bagels are par at best, and while the guys who work there are nice, it's a disheveled mess of an organization, and I have YET to go in there and get a bagel in less than 15 minutes. The whole thing seems really stupidly run, meaning, you see bagel shops all the time with the same setup, but doing it much, much more efficiently. You'll often be standing there behind the glass, give your order to one guy, and two more guys come and take your order. I'm one person, I typically order *really* simple stuff, and yet, never, never, never have they actually handed my bagel to me in a timely manner. It always just sits there, after they're done with it I guess, while they deal with other customers, take a few phone calls, joke around with each other. I'm just standing there, glaring, like 'what in hell's name could take so long about spreading an everything bagel with some cream cheese?' Every. Freakin'. Time. After putting up with this crap again and again, and finally moving out of New York, and thus, never having to deal with such total obliviousness and rudeness to customers, I finally spoke up the last time I was visiting my old place, and had been waiting 20 minutes for my bagel. "Dude, I've been here 20 minutes!" I told the guy at the register, as a new customer who'd just walked in, stepped up to place an order, and they were taking it down. They were only slightly apologetic, a bit more expectant I'd say, but I let them have it, and told the manager, who was sitting at a table doing some billing. He completely didn't even make eye contact, just yelled "HAVE A NICE DAY" really rudely. Save your dough, go somewhere else, this place sucks. SUCKS! It was a cream-cheese and lox bagel with a small thing of O.J., and cost me $10. I threw half the bagel out because my hatred of the place just ruined my appetite. And it wasn't that great, anyway. If you're placing an order by phone and it's a huge order and you're sending someone to pick it up, it might be an OK place. They seem to largely traffic in that, and apparently do an decent job there. Because people keep using them. Despite them being a disheveled mess. Maybe they need advance notice to be good at what they do. And, FYI to New Yorkers: I just got a bagel at a nice suburban place, and it took then less than 5 minutes to prepare - it was a spinach & herb bagel, I know, sacrilege, and for that with veggie cream cheese it cost me $2.50, no headache yelling or stress, and less than a fraction of my day. The high prices in this establishment make the experience disappointing. The pros are that the menu is varied, there are healthy food options, and for the most part service is good, nice people etc (maybe the name too). However, I guess the owner is making money off of the people that order deliveries consistently and don't care about prices. Being on fifth ave I imagine rent maybe being a little higher. But, I'd recommend looking at places in the surrounding blocks. You can find bagels really just as good for half the price. I mean if the place is going to keep the prices this high they should at least really load up the portions of their servings - its just not in touch with consumers in the area. read more

I ordered the sunset sampler with a banana milk shake. I waited 2 hours for it to be delivered and I live RIGHT DOWN THE BLOCK. The delivery boy calls me and tells me he's downstairs, when I run downstairs in my robe he isn't there. 2 minutes later he comes strolling down the block and when I asked him why he would call me if he wasn't here yet he laughed. The food here is good but their poor customer service and their unreasonably lengthy wait time is this place's downfall. Anytime I'm with friends and we'd like to order in everyone decides on not ordering from here because of it.
