Just quacking around

10.4.25: What a beautiful and quiet beach! For a Saturday there was hardly anyone there. My friend and I walked the beach while her daughter got a tattoo at Rick Walters Famous Tattoo shop. The weather was nice and it was peaceful to hear ocean waves crashing and watch birds do bird things lol. Beach was really clean and didn't see any trash.

Really pretty and not overpopulated

I always find parking and the water is so pretty!! Not overcrowded at all, perfect beach day.

If you want a truly quiet and chill place to enjoy the beach then look no further. Right now it's us, a random fisherman in the surf zone, and a single lifeguard for as far as the eye can see! There's not much as far as amenities go, but I suppose that's the trade off for true peace and quiet. Bring your drinks and items with you, but so long as you can brave the parking area against the locals and find a parking spot then you're in for a treat. :)

truly such a gem!! a short walk away from bolsa chica wetlands, so perfect for a fun afternoon hike not the most picturesque beach, but still very cute & clean! highly recommend, i have walked here so many times, especially around sunset

A great beach to visit to see the sunset, relax, and take a nice stroll. The best part is the parking is free and the area really isn't super crowded

Sunset beach is cute, however the "sand" is mostly dark dirt colored, very dense & unappealing.

Sunset beach is a great place to catch the Sunset & take a nice easy stroll right into the setting sun over a deep Prussian blue sea. It's a very nice walking beach as the sand is very dense & hard, yet, very dark in color & not very appealing. However we love the little surfer neighborhood vibe, visiting our friends that live here is always fun. I love seeing all the interesting tropical plants & foliage unique to the area. No dogs or alcohol allowed. Parking is very limited. A cute place to visit if your in the area, not a destination spot.

Immediately as you are in the parking lot you get hit with that Sunset Beach Smell The The first thing that came to mind when I arrived to this place was freedom So calm and relieving and I even got to meet a new friend here Thankfully, the restrooms are open even after the evenings and I was able to use the restroom there before we took off. This is my second time here and I don't regret coming back

OK it's not Bora Bora but it's very close to a major US city and industrial area and yet it's quite beautiful. Of course, there are the oil drilling things out in the distance and some very large tankers, but it is Long Beach one of the biggest ports in the United States. If not, the world. It's not only a very Long Beach, like the area is named, but it's also very wide at least when I was there. There are some very beautiful homes that are right on top of each other, but have incredible views of the ocean. I was there on a Thursday in March and parking was not a problem right in front of these private homes. The parking is free.

My favorite beach to visit. I like to come early in the morning or during sunset. You usually can always find parking at those times. I like coming here because it doesn't get too crowded and I like to enjoy the beach without being surrounded by a million people. The parking lot runs along the beach and is free. If it's full you can sometimes find street parking as well on some of the side streets or along PCH (if you're comfortable parking there).

Finally the sun is out and shining

Pretty clean and well maintained beach close to where we we're staying. Have yet to watch a Sunset .... You can find some pretty seashells in the sand.

Love this beach for surfing and just hanging out at on a warm day. If you enter from Warner, there's a small lot behind jack in the box that doesn't open until 7am. There's more residential parking as you drive down toward the water tower off Anderson at.

Had a great time at Sunset Beach with the Fam. We only stayed for about an hour & a half. Wish we could've stayed longer. We originally went for some fun N the sun & to release lanterns in the sky for a recently lost but never forgotten family member. Unfortunately it was extremely too windy to do so... Had a nice little bonfire going. That is until the fire department showed up & said that it was not permitted on the beach. The bonfire was then promptly & properly put out. All of the firefighters that showed up were super cool about it. Just a friendly word of advice for those wanting to have a bonfire at Sunset Beach..."DONT". It's an amazing beach. But Dockweiler beach which isn't too far from Sunset Beach allows bonfires.

This 1.5mile long surfing beach has gentle waves along the shore. Relatively quieter than neighboring beaches.

Public restrooms are locked on the weekends. Not a great experience for my elderly father.

Sunset Beach Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Sunset Beach

Is this a good beach for flying a kite?

Yes, people fly kites and kite surf all the time here!

Are there shower and restrooms here?

There are outdoor showers and restrooms throughout the green belt by the free parking spots.

Is this a good beach for boogie boarding?

Is the sunset nice ? And would I be able to have a picnic on the beach?

I haven't been there on Sunset! I imagine it will be beautiful. You can definitely have a picnic on pretty much any beach :)

How's parking at this beach? Street or lot?

There's a parking lot that runs along the beach. It's free. If it's a busy beach day it will be difficult to find parking. I normally come during the weekdays in the morning and have always been able to find parking. A few years back I did ended up…

Can I do overnight parking here?

Yes and No. You may park overnight in the greenbelt spaces on South Pacific Ave and North Pacific Ave. However, the lot at the far southern end of Sunset Beach (would translate roughly to cross streets of 1st/2nd/3rd and South Pacific Ave), near the…

Does Sunset Beach have bonfire?

There are no fire pits. But you can bring your own portable bbq grills to substitute for cooking and warmth. Good luck!

Is the beach still open with all these fires going on?

Yes! Our beach is still open with parking on the greenbelt. :)

What time does it usually get crowded on weekdays?

Just like on the weekends, it varies depending upon on the weather. But people generally start to arrive from 11am - 2pm (save for surfers if the waves are decent, who start to roll in around 6-630am).

Can you bbq at sunset beach?

Where you able to find out if you could?

Is this beach open during the lockdown?

Yes

Is it totally free? Is the water temp ok now for a toddler?

It is totally free. The temperature of the water varies by season and weather. It is best to check before going.

Can you camp here?

There are no campsites at this beach.

Anyone can attend this beach correct?

Yes, open to public. Not usually crowded, beautiful location, hundreds of tiny sea shells...enjoy!

Are there firepits on Sunset Beach?

Not that I've seen.

Any sting ray reports here lately?

I'm not sure about here but last weekend at Huntington beach a guy was shook because he says he stepped on a Sting Ray.

Does the beach allow leashed dogs?

No. However, during the winter months lifeguards are not posted and beach patrol occurs far less often than during the summer, especially after 5pm. Head south to the beginning of Huntington Beach on PCH just after Seapoint Street for Dog Beach.…

Does sunset Beach have fire pits for bonfires?

Since it's a smaller beach I haven't seen any and have gone several times . further down on Huntington or Newport beach they have some though =)

Are there public restrooms?

Yes, there are public restrooms and showers on the greenbelt.

Can owners of the beach front property reserve the free parking with trash cans and caution tape?

No - parking is open to the public. Home owners have garages and some assigned spaces in front of their properties but they are not allowed to reserve free parking that is intended for public use on a first come first serve basis. That's more than…

It's all about rocks and caves. And a hidden cove?…read more Instagram and TikTok have probably made this once obscure beach in Corona del Mar way too popular, but back in the day, while the parents were beachgoing at nearby Corona del Mar State Beach, we preteens and early teenagers were exploring the caves at Pirate's Cove and scrambling all over the sometimes dangerous rocks. But our moms weren't within eyesight or earshot, so we ran and climbed and splashed and wrestled. It felt like every time I came here, I cut my hands or arms or shins on the rocks, but I didn't care, because I was learning independence, and I didn't dare complain in front of my friends. The sandy part of the beach itself can get completely swallowed by the high tide, so plan ahead. The Newport Harbor Jetty (and, to a lesser extent, the CDM State Beach Jetty) protect(s) the beach from waves, so there's no real bodyboarding or bodysurfing to be had. That's probably a good thing, too, because these rocks would be treacherous if this beach weren't completely enclosed within Newport Bay's entrance channel. The metal fences separating the deeper parts of the caves always scared me. I realized the fencing was to prevent children from getting where adults couldn't fit, because high tides could mean drowning or otherwise getting hurt, but it was still spooky. I believe my friend Michael tried to bend back the metal, but he couldn't, despite how rusty and old it seemed. The stairs down to the beach are much nicer and sturdier than they used to be. Otherwise, it looks and feels the same as it did thirty-five years ago.
