    Southern Slammer
    Kiana B.

A little hard to find this place on foot, but worth the effort. A mix of locals and tourists frequent this place, and there is plenty of both indoor and shaded outdoor seating available. The Neptune was hands down one of the best omelets I've ever had, and the Southern Slammer was exactly what I expected (and more--those green onions really enhanced the grits). Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for breakfast.

This is a nice spot if you're looking for a traditional breakfast. Overall, the food was decent, though I think it has room for improvement. I wish the chocolate chip pancake had more chocolate, the breakfast potatoes had a bit more seasoning, and the bread was fresher since it tasted a little stale. That said, I think this restaurant has a lot of potential and it's in a great location. The highlight of our visit was the service--Kevin was absolutely amazing and one of the most attentive servers we've had in a long time. His friendly and attentive service made the experience much more enjoyable. We'd definitely come back to try some different items on the menu and see what else they have to offer.

This French toast was one of the best I've ver had! Perfectly soft but not soggy. Biscuit in the biscuits and gravy was made to perfection! Everything was a 10/10. The staff was so friendly and quick to attend to us even on a busy Sunday morning

So. We parked on Main Street, thinking this place was closer. Nope, but well worth the walk. The walk back was nice as our bellies were full. Bennys were delicious! Potatoes were alright, but they were the side so no big deal. Burger was a high 7/8 - my husband was a little overwhelmed by all the flavors going on. The Mexican coffee was yummy. We will be back!

My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday morning around 8:30 and were seated right away! Our server Cassie greeted us almost immediately and was friendly and attentive from start to finish. She really made the experience. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, substituting bacon for ham, with a biscuit and gravy on the side. The Eggs Benedict was good. I loved the unexpected touch of Swiss cheese, which added a nice twist to a classic dish. The hollandaise was a little on the sour side, but the bacon was cooked perfectly. The biscuit and gravy was the real star of my meal, so good that I almost wish I had ordered it as my main! Definitely getting that next time. My husband went for The Big Ass Sandwich and loved it. Fair warning- it lives up to its name. It's big, it's messy, and it's absolutely worth it. He said the same thing I was thinking: we need to come back. We'll definitely be returning on our next trip to Fredericksburg. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great breakfast spot with good food and even better service!

This is our favorite brunch in Fred. Sam has taken care of us many times and she's wonderful! The whole staff here is top notch. They updated their porch to have more coverage which will be great once summer really hits. Inside is great too. We've sat in all the areas. We went all out for our brunch date (mom & dad time out). Cold brew with vanilla, caramel iced latte... yummmm! We started with zucchini fries and they were hot, crunchy and delicious. I had the brunch burger (it was huge!) with sweet potato fries. I love their sweet potato fries. Husband tried the special- biscuit love - says it's good for anyone who loves gravy and brunch dessert was the banana French toast - we got the banana on the side and a side of berries. Yum yum yum. Soft and pillowy. Thank you Sam! See you soon :)

This place is bustling! Even on a Monday morning (granted, it was spring break for many), but plan accordingly as there could be a wait. There's not a lot of parking either; it's like random fields/areas. The overall size of the restaurant isn't all that big either, so be aware of how noisy it could be. Anyway, we ordered a couple pancake plates that were larger in size. Kids said they were fine. Another ordered the eggs and bacon, which consisted of two eggs, a little bacon, toast, and some potatoes. Nothing ground breaking, but seemed sufficient. I ordered the TBLTA, which was a turkey sandwich, bacon, and avocado. The portion seemed reasonable for the price. Overall, the food was good for what it was and the place was turning tables like nobody's business.

Worth the wait, the line is long but the food is so good! They have a cute patio, and the airing area is accommodating where you can sip a cocktail while you wait for your table! The grilled biscuit and bacon are my go to, but get the banana French toast for the table...it's so good but a little sweet to eat on your own. You won't leave hungry, portions are substantial, and the word watching is always fun...full of girls trips, bridesmaids, people recovering from a fun evening out, and plenty of families of all ages!

Loved it! It's been a number of years since our last visit. At that time, they were in a different location. This location is SO much better. Lots of seating - indoors and outdoors. Dog friendly outdoors too. The service - wow. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Our server, Maria A was amazing. We arrived about 9:30 AM on a Monday morning. Being a holiday, Presidents' Day, it was quite busy. I thought we'd have to wait quite a while but surprisingly there were some open tables inside. Being a nice sunny morning a lot of the outdoor seating was pretty full. Our party of four was seated quickly. Water came, followed quickly by coffee. Someone was always making the rounds with the coffee pot. That was nice. My wife and I shared a breakfast as follows: - California omelette with sourdough toast - Single pancake with blueberries I'd say the omelette was decent. Four out of five. It had good flavor. The way they make them here is slightly dry, but still decent. Next time I'll ask for mine to be less dry on the outside. The pancake was really good. Nice and fluffy and flavorful. We're so happy we returned to Sunset Grill for breakfast this year and we look forward to eating there on our next visit to Fredericksburg.

We kicked off our bachelorette trip with brunch at Sunset Grill, and while it didn't blow us away, it was a solid start to a fun weekend! First, the vibes: the restaurant is cozy and charming -- exactly the kind of spot you'd want for a relaxed girls' brunch. Our waitress was sweet, attentive, and made us feel right at home from the moment we sat down. Now, the food was a bit of a mixed bag. The bacon? Absolutely on point -- crispy, savory, no notes. And the Mexican coffee was a delightful surprise -- rich, flavorful, and the perfect way to ease into the morning. The French toast had a great foundation, but I was hoping for more of a true banana foster experience -- caramelized, charred bananas with a glossy glaze. Instead, the bananas came as-is, which felt like a missed opportunity to really elevate the dish. A little time in the pan would go a long way! The breakfast potatoes were the low point -- they came out a little overcooked and underseasoned, which is an easy fix but made them hard to get excited about. Overall, Sunset Grill has a lot of charm and the service was genuinely warm.

This became our go to brunch spot when we are in Fredricksburg. We were seated immediately because they have a ton of tables, which is a huge plus in this town. We sat on the dog-friendly patio and the service was incredibly quick. The food was 10/10--everything tasted so fresh. I highly recommend the Señorita Omelette (it's loaded with veggies and super flavorful) and the Avocado Toast, which was absolute fire. Don't skip the fresh-squeezed juices! Plus, plenty of parking out front made the whole experience stress-free.

I was very excited to write this review about the positive experience and I had here. In my images, I showcase a beautiful French omelette. It is so easy for people to get omelettes wrong and overcook them until they are a rubbery mess. But mine was very soft, decadent, and fluffy with a very beautiful balance of all flavors present in the dish. I also appreciated the salad that came with it because I think starting the day off with some fiber is very healthy for the body. In the past, I've had the steak and eggs and it was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. But when I came to visit on this specific day, they were out and happily recommended the omelettes instead. It can get crowded, but I don't agree with the reviews here that say the restaurant gets too loud. Let's be honest. Fredericksburg has a certain type of demographic and at times I feel they are unfairly nitpicky to the local businesses. When the restaurant is crowded, it's lively and full of smiling faces and servers who are eager to serve and make sure that you enjoy your meal. Restaurant was also clean on our visit and the restrooms were well taken care of. I can't wait to come again for breakfast!

Vibe is euro-bistro and the staff is perfectly attentive. Prices are high, but honestly aligned to the quality of the food, at least the dishes we had were worth the prices. Food: Buttermilk Fried Chicken, with Onion/Bacon flash fried collard greens, whipped potatoes and house gravy and Jalapeno Cornbread for $32 Reuben on Marble Rye for $24 16oz Stella Artois for $10 We agreed that the fried chicken (5/5) was the best we could remember having. Whipped potatoes (5/5) were light, fluffy and perfect taste/texture. The gravy was like brown butter (5/5). The collard greens (5/5) were flash fried and if you've never had them like this, it's like eating collard green potato chips. Cornbread (3/4) was a bit too delicate and sweet for our taste. You couldn't pick it up without it falling apart. The Ruben (3/5). My wife loves a good Ruben sandwich. This one had the makings of a good one, but they use a Thousand Island sauce (too much of it) on the sandwich, and it hides the flavor of the meat. Next time we would ask for the sandwich without the TI sauce, see if that improves the rating. The sandwich came with house made potato chips (5/5), a small house salad with vinaigrette (5/5) and a large, pickled cucumber. I know, that's a pickle, but these are cucumbers that have gone maybe a third of the way through the process, so the cucumber taste is really prevalent. Lastly, we had the Creme Brulé (3/5) for dessert. It was nice, but the custard was coffee and caramel flavored, and we prefer the standard custard look and flavor. The caramel should come from the top layer, not the custard. The top layer was a bit too thick as well. We liked it, just didn't love it. Overall, quality food, service and vibe with prices that are aligned to more special occasions than everyday eating out. We'll be back to try the Monday Crawfish Etoufee and the Tuesday Duck Confit daily specials...look too good to pass up.

I deduced to try the French Benedict which was two poached eggs on top of a croissant with ham and Swiss Cheese with their homemade Hollandaise sauce. It came with the cubed home fries and fresh fruit. The eggs were prepared well and the Hollandaise sauce was very flavorful - a great choice. While the cubed home fries didn't have anything that made them 'special' they were prepared perfectly with a bit of crispiness on the outside and soft inside. The flavor was good. The fresh fruit consisted of grapes, blueberries, cantaloupe and pineapple - all of which was fresh and flavorful. We also tried the Cochinita Pibil which was the corn tortillas filled with pork that was topped with purple cabbage and slivered carrots and their own sauce. The sauce was very good. The pork was super tender and moist. It had a great flavor but there was a hint of a flavor that we just couldn't place - almost apple-like but not quite. Unfortunately, this experience felt less like a restaurant opening and more like a dress rehearsal no one stopped. First problem: location confusion. We went to what turned out to be their second spot--which, crucially, was not called Nurys on the sign. Same ownership, new space, old identity crisis. Walking in felt like entering a building that hadn't yet decided what it wanted to be when it grew up. The lingering aroma? A strange duet of fish, antiseptic, and industrial cleaning agents. Not hunger-inducing. More "urgent care with a fryer." There was no one there, which made sense--it was between brunch and lunch--but somehow the wait for food felt disproportionately long for what arrived. What arrived, sadly, was mediocrity wearing a Tex-Mex costume. They seemed to be aiming for Tex-Mex but landed somewhere closer to Tex-Flex--stretching flavors thin until they snapped. The barbacoa was fatty in a way that suggested less "slow-cooked tradition" and more "glistening regret." It didn't taste authentic, or even especially intentional. Just heavy. The guacamole--perhaps the most unforgivable offense--was bad. Guacamole is avocados, salt, lime, and love. That's it. This had none of the above. The waitstaff wasn't rude, exactly--just possessed by the clear energy of people who would prefer you to finish quickly so they could resume their real lives. Hospitality should feel like an invitation, not a countdown. Now, maybe the original Nurys is wonderful. I hope it is. But if that's the case, why open a second location only to phone it in? Expansion should mean excellence multiplied, not care divided. There are too many good places in Fredericksburg doing things right to settle for something half-hearted. This one wasn't terrible--it was worse. It was forgettable. And that's the real disappointment.
