Had a nice dinner here Thursday evening. The menu is full of selections! The guys in our group went with the beef stronganoff and they were both very pleased. I had the lasagna, it was good but had a unique taste, not bad at all, just different. The other person in our group ordered salmon and she said it was really good. Sunset Grill is one of the few restaurants in the Centreville area. Mainly they keep in business due to the large crowd of folks that come over from West Creek Office Park (CarMax & CapitalOne folks can be seen there in droves). They have a nice covered deck and a closed off dining area with a bar in between. They allow folks to smoke on the deck so if this bothers you, beware. The deck often has live music and the place can get packed. The food is pretty good and definitely a step up from the Corporate Cafeterias. The staff is generally very nice and accommodating, but often gets slammed so don't show up if you are in a hurry. I've tried many items on the menu and don't think I've been disappointed with any. If you want solid fare, good (occasionally slow) service in a nice environment or if you want a business lunch "off-campus" near West Creek, this is the go to place. read more

The only reason I'm not giving one star is because the food was decent. My husband ordered a Makers Mark 46 neat and when he got it, he looked in the glass and there were SIX GNATS!!!! So disgusting!!! The waitress didn't even seem surprised or get a manager to come talk to us. She just went back to the kitchen to dump the drink and the bottle of Makers Mark is still sitting at the bar. read more

Not a bad place for lunch. In a freestanding older building, there are a few different seating areas--outside patio, inside bar, and inside restaurant, where we sat at a booth. Shortly before noon we were one of the first customers but the place filled up as we ate. The menu is sandwiches and burgers. I had a blackened mahi sandwich at the server's suggestion and it was actually very good--cooked medium rare, pink on the inside and moist. Service was fast and good. A nice place west of Short Pump. I have been many times for lunch and never disappointed. The crab cake, sailor, Cuban, blacken tuna, and burgers all great! Love the potato salad as a side. Dark warming decor and atmosphere. Outside seating and bar when the weather is nice. Sometimes the service can be slow out there. A definite must try if you are in the Manakin Sabot area for lunch. Also by far the best choice in that area for lunch. Never been for dinner so no comment on that. The have live music on the weekends that I hear is very good but haven't ventured there myself. read more

I've returned a few time since my initial review. I've had the Ribs (fall off the bone), Hamburger (good deal on $5 Hamburger day), and the Sailor Sandwich. All were pretty good. The Service has been spot-on the last few times. We had a new Waitress the last time and she did everything perfect! My friends liked the local relaxed atmosphere and felt at home on their first visit there. My lunch sandwich was a sliced prime rib with bacon cheese and mushroom, AWESOME!!! read more

Food is very good as always and the staff is very friendly and efficient. Within the last several months they had a significant increase in menu prices (in my opinion). NOW, they add a 3.5% inflation fee. I find this ridiculous. Seems the owner wants to line their pockets with additional funds from their customers and take full advance of this lousy economy. I have been dining in this restaurant one or two times per week for dinner. As of last night with their inflation fees, I believe I will now frequent restaurants that DO NOT add a crazy ridiculous inflation fee! read more

Love the food and service but was disappointed in the "inflation charge " that was on our bill the other night. The fee was not advertised.

Today myself and 6 of my coworkers came here on our lunch break. We waited to be seated which was fine but then it took them about 15-20 minutes to take our drink order while the waitress took two table's drink orders that were seated after us. We put our lunch order in (all of us got sandwiches) when she came to get our drink order. Then waited... and waited... and waited.. mean while the waitress took two tables orders after us then promptly brought out their orders.. while we were still waiting for our food. It's now going on 30 plus minutes waiting for our food and more tables are getting their orders before us. Not impressed with the service. And the food quality doesn't match up to the time we waited to receive some sandwiches... the waitress was nice, I just think the kitchen wasn't very organized.. won't be returning for lunch unfortunately. read more

Little restaurant just outside of Short Pump. Has a dinning room, bar and padio. Kind of small gravel parking lot so parking can be a little tricky. They have some good beers on tap and a few specials but they are kind of overpriced. I got their fried cod and fries last night. Comes with housemade tarter sauce and coleslaw. Fish was fried well and tasted fresh. Fries were crispy. I dont care for their coleslaw, it was warm and limp. The tarter sauce is ok, but for being homemade i can do better. Place is almost always on point. Definitely a neighborhood bar and grill with good food and drink specials. The servers are always chipper and seems like they enjoy theiR being here. So it turns out the waiter, Scott, makes an assumption to upsell the baked spaghetti on his own & unbeknownst to me, which I did NOT order. I ordered the "spaghetti". He didn't ask, clarify nor acknowledge my order of the spaghetti but assumed it was "baked spaghetti". Know your menu, Scott!! There was a $6 difference between two entrees. Scott had ZERO issues jamming the higher priced entre on the bill. If you make a mistake, own up to it but don't expect the customer to make the difference for you. If I was going to order "baked spaghetti" at $18.95, I wouldn't be at Sunset Grill! I would dine at Joe's Inn, where the spaghetti is much better, plentiful & order confirmed by the waiter, who doesn't unexpectedly jam it on your bill & surprise your customer. It is the first week of restaurants being able to open for inside service due to covid 19. I ordered ahi tuna, baked potato and a ceaser salad to go, to be picked up at 7:00 pm. When I arrived they did not have the order. The waitress checked and apparently, the person who took the order got distracted and did not put it in. They said wait a few minutes and they would get it ready and there would be no charge ( about a $30 order ). It took about 15 minutes, there was no charge and it was delicious. I have eaten at Sunset a number of times. I have found that just a simple sandwich and fries is the best way to go. It's very much more a pub than a restaurant. The bar is dark and large, the dining area is somewhat small and the outside patio/porch are great if the weather allows. There are a number of regulars as its a good alternative if you don't want to mess with the Short Pump traffic. The service is "ok" - the hostess can be a little abrupt and I have never had a server that I thought was overly excited to be there. It's a tiny alternative to the big chain giants up the street. read more

I've been finding myself lately driving on out to sunset grill for some wine and good home cooking. I've enjoyed all their food. Great steak quesidilla, burgers, soup specials and pastas. Good American fare that is a notch or 2 above pub food. Good chefs seem to ensure good quality ingredients to make simple dishes elevated. Good food, albeit a tad overpriced. I'll agree with others that the outside appearance is misleading. It looks quite dive-y from the road, but the dining room is quite nice, albeit very small. But what we love here is the bar & patio. It's a great little place to go & have a few beers while listening to the live music. Wait staff & bartenders are always friendly. And they have great appies as well, perfect for sharing. Interesting chef specials as well, we've tried several and always been pleased. My husband and I dined here for dinner with another couple on a Saturday Night. It is a busy spot and we had about a 30 min wait. It's a bummed when places do not take reservations. I understand why but it is still inconvenient. We were finally seated and had a wonderful experience. Our server was on point, cheerful, helpful. Usually a favorite but really disappointed today. I wasn't informed of the Saturday burger special so assumed it was no longer offered and ordered the full price mushroom and swiss at twice the price of the special. The waitress put in my order, took it to the wrong table and told staff she didn't need it. After waiting over 20 minutes, I finally got my food, not cooked as I'd requested. When she brought my check, I was informed that the booth behind me had gotten my check and paid it so I would pay theirs. No apology or offer of something to make up for the errors or my long wait. I think it probably was close to the same amount. Very disappointed after driving out for what is normally my favorite burger. Hopefully next time will be a much better experience. read more

If you're out this way, you probably won't expect much in the way of fine dining. The biggest problem that I had here was the parking situation. It was a bit disorganized, and my Prius did not enjoy the gravel part at all. Walking in, I expected a little bit country, a little bit American grill. Instead I was surprised by the business clientele that were sitting around the restaurant. Additionally, the table cloths were linen, but the menus were laminated plastic. After a bit of research I discovered that it turns into a fine dining place at night, with a bit of live music. This seems like the happening spot at night, but the lunch was a whole different atmosphere. The service was prompt & efficient. The sandwiches that we got were filling and despite the tomato slice being the center rind, it was very good for the price. Definitely go with the fries here, they are very crispy, and ask for a bit of the house sauce to dip them in. I've always driven past this place and have been curious to see what it's like, especially seeing how crowded it can get on a Friday or Saturday night. It did not disappoint!!! The food was exquisite, and the atmosphere was family friendly- so friendly that there were dogs on the outdoor patio! A highlight of the night was seeing the wait staff bring out bowls of waters for the pups. However, go bar side and it could definitely turn into a vibe more appropriate for adults only. Wait time for food wasn't bad at all, and the food was well worth it. Portions were great- even though some of the prices were higher, the amount of food you got made up for it.
