I made a reservation for 12 two weeks in advance as we were having friends in from out of town. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were given 11 chairs around 3 round tables shoved together as if we were walk-ins. We had to snag a 12th chair and were even more crowded around this awkward table configuration. Tonight was MORE than a disappointment...our food was cold and as I was trying to eat my pasta dish...I bit into something that was crunchy to only pull it out of my mouth and realize it was the shell of a very large BUG!!!!!!! Great neighborhood restaurant. This place appears to employ local teenagers, or younger people and still managed to run a tight ship despite the staff's collective age. The food is amazing. Nothing wild, crazy, exotic, but it's all very good. The sunset salad is what they're known for. My wife could eat seven blackened chicken sandwiches a week if given the opportunity. They also have a tableside magician for the kids on Sunday nights. You definitely need to check it out. read more

Do NOT go here on a Sunday thinking your kids will see a magician. We drove all the way from Olathe with our one year old and four year old because they advertised that there was a magician there from 6-8pm. Our kids were all excited. We waited and waited, and even asked our waitress to send him over, and HE NEVER CAME TO OUR TABLE! I looked around, and saw the "magician" outside entertaining/boring a group of adults on the patio. This was AFTER our waitress had asked him to come to our table. I asked to talk with the manager at which point a waitress brought over the female bartender. I asked if the magician was there for the kids or the adults. She said, "Both. He does private parties." Why, then, do they advertise it, along with a kids meal special, like he is there for children? I will NEVER go back to this place. We spent $50 on dinner (with 1/2 price kids meals) to see a magician who didn't even have the courtesy to come to our table after he was requested to. It was very sad when we left and our four year old asked why the magician hadn't come over. The owners need to take control of this guy because he is going to ruin their business for them. I own businesses, and if it were mine, I would demand that the magician visit EVERY SINGLE table that had children at it BEFORE he talked to any tables with only adults. Ridiculous. read more

Sunset a Grill has always been a favorite lunch and happy hour spot for me. For the number of times I've frequented it, I'm embarrassed that I've almost always gotten the same thing, the chopped salad. But, the fabulous Sunset Chopped Salad is that good in my book! They also have a great selection of salads, sandwiches, soups, etc. that look good. There are happy hour specials and a nice variety of appetizers that are quite tasty. We have also found ourselves at Sunset Grill late night, when they often times have live entertainment. This is a great local bar and grill. read more

This is a very nice place to grab dinner or late lunch with friends. It has a very laid back atmosphere and a nice outdoor dining area, which is always nice in these summer months! Also, they sometimes send out a coupon including a free 1/2 order of the Texas Shrimp, beware because once you try them you'll have to get them everytime LOL they are INCREDIBLE! Confession- I have been 2 times this week.. the larkburger is wonderful and the truffle burger was also quite tasty. Fries were some of the best I've ever had. Not too thick and not too thin but fried to perfection. Caesar salad was off the charts, I loved the fried jalepenos and their garlicky croutons. My only complaint on anything is the bowls for the salads are a bit dainty. The Togo bowls they cram full of salad and there isn't room to dress and shake. Lark burger is amazing read more

Took a chance and tried this place for the third time on a whim and it struck out once and for all. I think it's an okay place and has seen favorable reviews based only on the fact that it's the only place like it in OP. The food is decent for the area but would be just another place anywhere else. The menu is of decent size and the prices are what you'd expect for this locale. The wait staff mostly consists of what seems to be the local high school cheerleading squad and the service is mediocre. This last visit, the particular waitress I had acted like she had better things to do and that is what put the final nail in the coffin for me. I left before ordering and went somewhere else. We love this place! We recently moved to the area and keep coming back to this restaurant. They have a very sweet staff and great food every time! Overpriced food. The best part of the experience was the friendly host. The waitress didn't seem to really care or want to be there and the food was just okay. For two adults, two kids, we spent over $60. My volcanic pasta was simple (spicy noodles, plain chicken covered in cheese), but the leftovers were better warmed up the next day. My husband had the paradise sandwich. It was open faced and on Texas toast. He wasn't impressed. The kids pizza came out on a soft bread and was covered in sauce. My kid was a disaster as it was nearly impossible to eat without a fork. My oldest kid seemed to enjoy his chicken tenders. Probably not a place that we will return to as a family. read more

I've had lunch here a few times with my family because they had some amazing things to say about this place! The food is delicious, pretty darn affordable, and the environment is super family friendly! The staff is so very nice and never fails to make sure we're taken care of. Not so good. We went here to try another local restaurant and were not impressed. They seem to be confused about what kind of restaurant they are. They have some Mexican dishes but serve plenty of sandwiches and even pasta. I actually got the pasta and it was good. My husband got a burger and said it was the worst burger he's ever eaten. It was definitely a frozen patty and was unevenly cooked. Also the cheddar cheese on top was shredded and not even melted. The fries were also frozen and bland. A friend raved about Sunset Grill so we met there for lunch today. I ordered the blackened chicken caesar salad and it arrived swimming in salad dressing. It was a small lunch crowd but my server hadn't stopped back by the table so I went to the back to find her. I asked the kitchen to add some additional lettuce to make the salad eatable. When she brought it back, more lettuce was added and it appeared additional dressing too. I picked off the chicken and croutons and left the rest of it. The server brought the check, picked up a salad bowl that was almost full but didn't say anything. As one who waited tables in my early 20s, I've been in her shoes and expect better than this. Sunset had been recommended to me 2 years ago. We finally decided to give it a try. The food was amazing. I'm a sucker for a chopped salad and theirs was the best I've had in KC. Chips and salsa was fresh and delicious. Chicken finger dinner was great. Portions are big and price is more than reasonable. Cocktails tasted yummy and a dollar cheaper than most places. The lunch size is usually enough, but the dinner size works if you're hungry. The prices are reasonable. Although this is a family place, it's never noisy and the acoustics are good.
