This winery is great! When we went, it was a fairly busy day, but we were immediately greeted by a gentleman with a huge smile who have us the down low on how their winery operates. When had to wait a little while for a place to rest our elbows, but no big deal. The wait was still probably less than 5 minutes. We did the tasting and there were a bunch of pretty decent wines. We got a chilled red that was pretty sweet and tasted like sangria, which we enjoyed in the picnic area that was set up. There was quite a crowd outside and it was a great place to enjoy the wine. Stopped my the vineyard after a hike around 4pm on dec 3rd 2016. I have to say the younger server greeted us with enthusiasm. Came in for a couple of glasses of wine but she recommend a bottle which was the better choice. She even offers to let me have a tasting of one of the other red wine that I might like. One of my favorites! The best is the Root 63 and their new one "shades of Risque". The owner, Mrs. Motel also has a wine slushy that is fantastic!!! Well worth the price especially on a warm day. Will be going back again in the fall for the view and colors! This was our first time at this vineyard. We went with some friends for a wine tasting. The wines were very good and the prices were reasonable. The guy serving us was very friendly but a bit gruff at times. However, his service was quick and he was knowledgable. They also have a cute gift shop which was fun to walk around but we didn't buy anything because it was all vey expensive. There was also a nice outdoor patio which was peaceful to sit at. They close at five pm on a Friday which was odd so we had to go to a small park down the street to finish our drinks. Overall, a good experience and would go again if in the area. read more

Not sure what there is not to like about this place! Tom Angelo was performing with guitar and harmonica. Weather was beautiful, and the merlott slushy was a great refreshing treat. We met up with a bunch of friends and had a great time. Children are welcome and it was really a nice place to bring some food and drink some wine and relax. This place was absolutely wonderful. We came here on our way home from the Berkshires. Such a great place!! They were very busy when we arrived but we were able to squeeze ourselves in to have a tasting. It is only $6 to have a tasting. I really loved all the wines that I tried but by far my favorite was the Root 66. I never really drink red wine but this one is delicious!!! Our pourer was so nice and funny. She was very knowledgable about all the wines she poured us. They have so many great little things to buy also. Can't wait to return!!! read more

One of our favorite vineyards in CT. Lots of charm. Located in Goshen, CT just a few minutes drive from the Litchfield green. My girlfriend and me frequently spend a hour or so enjoying a bottle of wine and looking at the eclectic items for purchase in their little shop. I recommend the "Twisted Red." They have both indoor and outdoor seating with a nice pot bellied wood burning stove in winter. You can bring your own food or purchase something of theirs e.g. cheese & salami etc. . This was our second out of 3 stops in the area of wineries. We thoughrly enjoyed our time at Sunset Meadows. The grounds were beautiful and even though the place was rather busy we were able to get right in for a tasting. The person conducting our tasting didn't provide us with as much information as other vineyards had but we enjoyed many of the wines and actually bought a case for home and a bottle for the deck. read more

I arrived at Sunset Meadow at 4:25 on a Sunday and they turned me and my friends away. They told us they stopped serving at 4:30, which we still had 5 minutes. All we wanted was a tasting which takes about 10 minutes, so realistically we would have be done before 5:00 when they close. We asked if we could purchase a bottle, and they also said no. We were only to buy a bottle for the road, although there were about 20 people sitting outside drinking and enjoying themselves. We also noticed a sign posted that said no outside drinks, which I understand, however water was included in the no outside drinks. Unless you serve water, you shouldn't be banning it. We drive over 30 minutes to get there, just to be turned away. I don't care if their wine is good or not, I will never be returning due to poor customer service. read more

Visited SMV before heading back to NYC, it was only about a 2 mile drive from the hotel we stayed at the night before. My husband and I expected to be the first ones there (opened at 11am), but surprisingly the premise was already decently packed. The tasting room is really nice and cozy and we were greeted by Chris, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about wine. When he realized that we like sweet wines, he had us try one that won awards that we hadn't even selected for our tasting (can't remember the name). My husband and I loved the Shades of Risque and the Apple wine! It was a very nice touch that they ended our tasting session with a merlito and a blueberry frozen drink samples. I've been to a few CT wineries in the past 2 years and so far, SMV is my favorite! read more

I was there recently (9/10/16) with a group of 20 and the staff was very accommodating. I had made the reservation well in advance and we had a staff member ready and waiting for us. The wines were nice. The most popular one in our group seemed to be the Blustery Blend. The gift shop had many cute items on hand! Beautiful. We saw a bridal shower while we were there and it looked like the perfect place to have it. There were plenty of staff, but even more people so we felt rushed through our tasting. The woman who did our tasting seemed new because she did not know much about the wines. We did the chocolate pairing with our tasting and she had to read right off the paper we were given about each chocolate and wine. The wines were very good, though and the chocolates were pretty good. My sister liked them a lot better than I did. The price of the chocolates is $10 more than the tasting without the chocolates, so it costs $2 per chocolate and I did not think it was worth that much. We also tried the Midnight Ice which was and additional $6 and for literally a splash of it. It was disgusting. Way too sweet and did not have good flavor. I would not recommend wasting your money on it. We went on the tour of the vineyard with the owner's son, which was really cool and thorough. They explained a lot about how they became a vineyard and how everything works. He told us all about the machines and the growing process and how to keep the vines healthy. Extremely nice guy and interesting to hear about it all. Overall, good experience, good wine, and beautiful place. read more

I have been to this winery on multiple occasions. Chris and Kim both have provided very enjoyable experiences! My favorite wines depend on the day. For whites: Chardonnay is perfectly oaked. Cayuga, Rose, Riesling, Vidal Blanc, and Blustery Blend have all been excellent. For reds: Twisted Red, Merlot Reserve, and Root 63 are all wonderful. There is always something new to try at Sunset Meadow. Chris is constantly evolving the wines and utilizes local businesses in the process. Amazing location with a rustic barn atmosphere inside. Family owned, dog friendly, and sustainable farming methods in place make Sunset Meadow a true gem. A must visit. read more

This was our third stop on the CT wine trail for the NW leg. We have driven by this vineyard about 100 times and have never been here. It's wonderful. The scenery is nice, an awesome ride to get there, etc. The parking lot has an attendee who was super friendly and told us where to park (yay for up close parking). Inside, the wine room is a little larger than some other ones I've been to. We waited a minute or so because it was super busy and took our stations. The wine tender was a very nice gentleman who explained everything. Unfortunately, my only setback with this place if you only get to taste 6 out of the 12 wines :( and you have to pick which ones you want which can get difficult because they all sound delicious. Because it was 4th of July weekend, they were offering a complimentary tasting of a wine so technically we got 7. We also paired them with the truffles which were to DIE for. The wine was good and we ended up walking away with 2 of them (one I had last night with dinner and it was an amazing choice!). This one was a little pricey, but overall I had a great experience. I will definitely return to this one, especially for the wines and scenery! read more

This is the first time I am leaving a review for any establishment in the entire state of CT. I sincerely hope other people read this and do not give business to this vineyard. We arrived as a group and were very respectful and courteous and ready to start our day. This place treated us like we were a group of young children. Not only did they up charge us because we were group, they also told us that we could not sit inside (while it was freezing outside) even though the ENTIRE place was empty inside!! I would like to add that this was after we spent $150 on wine tastings. They looked at us in the face and told us that we needed to leave. People in my group were even worried about asking to use the bathroom inside because we were not sure if they would let us. Please give your business to other vineyards in the state. I will never return here, and it was so disapointing to start our day like this. Once again this is the first review I have ever written. I truly hope they reconsider how groups are treated and I will be sure to let others know that this is place is not a welcoming and warm establishment. read more

Some clarification: I would give this place 4 stars for the winery itself, but 2 stars for the wine tasting. It really depends on what you are coming here for. Went for a wine tasting over the weekend, and was severely disappointed. Get in, 5 wines for $9 with glass, pretty decent price, similar to most wine tastings. However, the comparison to other wine tastings ends there. First, they have a bunch of lovely tables both indoors and out, so when we asked for the wine tasting at the counter, we mentioned we would like an outdoor table. We were informed that actually, the wine tastings do not take place at the tables like most other wineries, but instead you have to stand, at the counter where everyone is paying, while you taste your wines. This is not only crowded and awkward, but it makes you feel severely rushed. Then they pour the wine. Okay, I've been to a number of wine tastings, I'm not expecting half a glass or anything, I realize it's a tasting, but WOW. They legit poured ONE SIP of wine into the glass, it was absolutely ridiculous! Pretty disappointed. That said, their Root 63 sweet red wine was very good, and their white wines, while nothing incredible, were much better than most CT wineries. It was nice that, when I mentioned that my last wine was skunked, instead of shrugging it off, the woman behind the counter was nice and offered a fresh glass. Their wine slushies are delicious and refreshing, and only $5, so if you come here I would recommend coming for a picnic to catch up with friends, not for a wine tasting. Go in and buy a bottle, bring some food (they let you) and just spend the day drinking wine slushies or a bottle. I feel if that's what I had come here for, I would have loved this place a lot more, because it's the perfect atmosphere to just relax with friends over food and drinks. read more

WOW , what an awesome place...coming from NC , ( grew up in CT ) my aunt and I wanted to do something different on a Saturday. We initially went to Sunset for the wine tastings but the draw back was you would need to stand at the bar for the tastings. Instead we went to the smokehouse and got 2 awesome sandwiches and returned for a lunch in their warm and cozy room overlooking the vineyards, had a bottle of wine and the sandwiches, did a little shopping in their gift shop and it was awesome . They had beautiful glass and pottery available very reasonably priced. Their wine was very good. Love their red. We wanted a not so dry , but not very sweet wine and they were great about what they would recommend and let us taste it before we purchased it .... It was an incredible find on a blustery cold February Saturday ... loved it . read more

Hands down, the best local wines. I highly recommended the st. Croix. Red And the twisted red for red drinkers.... The Cayuga white and white blend for white drinkers. The atmosphere is homey and welcoming while still having a spectacular view and setting. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is for pairing... Great wines deserve carefully chosen cheese pairings. They have a cooler where you can grab some cheese, sausage... But it is not good, nor paired. If they would put a little time into pairing, this would be a homerun! But if you aren't hungry, or enjoy pairing, make this your go to spot.
