The tasting room at Sunset Meadows is really cozy and spacious, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I don't recall the "how many and how much" details of the tasting, because the wine lists were laminated and meant to stay at the vineyard-- I probably would have caught some looks had I attempted to stash one in my purse. In any event, we tasted a half dozen or so wines. New Dawn, made from grapes grown on-site, was a favorite. I also liked Sunset Blush, a sample of which was kindly provided on the house. I'm looking forward to visiting Sunset Meadows in the warmer months, because the outdoor seating area looked quite nice. read more

This place is quite an operation! They seriously know how to sell! They make a decent wine and have a very fetching setup with music, informal seating, and a solid facility. This place is a great first date location, an excellent "I'm still into you even though your politics are for poop" location and even a passable "I'm not entirely certain that kid is mine, but I'm ok with it either way" location. Said differently, pretty much anything you have on your mind will be ok in a setting like Sunset Meadow. Just go there with people you like and some good snacks and let the rest of the day unwind itself over a few bottles of well made CT wine. There is nothing, save the weather, to detract from the experience. Sure, they will make you go home at some point, but I bet you can play hide and seek in the vineyard well into dark! Definitely plan to spend some time here. Don't just go get stamped and move on. This is one of the better stops in CT! read more

One of the better vineyards we visited on our CT tour. Sunset Meadows offers a fairly broad selection of wine and the staff was very friendly. More personable than some other local vineyards; a more informal atmosphere and I felt they wanted us to enjoy ourselves. It was almost like relaxing at a wine bar rather than feeling pressured to buy or discuss the various wines to the point of exhaustion. Not that I didn't want to discuss the wine, but I'm a slow drinker, and that's a lot of time for me to spend talking about one drink. Anyway, we really enjoyed ourselves here and enjoyed snacking on the cheese and crackers they offered. Every winery should offer food, but surprisingly they do not. This was our third stop, so I really needed to ingest some solid, non-alcoholic edibles. Husband and I walked away from Sunset Meadows with two bottles: St. Croix (a dry red wine for him) and Cayuga White (fruity for me). I'd say that Sunset Meadows is a good option to include if you decide to do a local wine tour. read more

Stopped by to get a passport stamp before heading to the CT wine festival. Very nice venue with lots of outdoor seating and nice views. The wines were pretty good, but there wasn't anything in particular that went above and beyond for me. The Cayuga was my favorite. We tasted some here, and then tasted the rest at the wine festival. They do allow you to bring your own food so you can relax and snack while you sip. You cannot bring outside beverages onto the premises, but I'm not sure why you'd want to when you can get some yummy wine! This is an OK vineyard with outdoor seating, music on the Saturday afternoon we went there, and decent wine. It would be a great place to go with a picnic basket and a group of friends, to hang out and enjoy some wine and the view on a warm day. My husband and I went to check out the wines at the tasting bar. For $6 you can taste 5 or their 11 offerings and take the wine glass home. I enjoyed all the wines I tried. Typical of CT vineyards, I found the whites more appealing than the reds. They have a nice Chardonnay, a light and dry Rose, and a decent Riesling. The best of the reds was a blend called "Twisted Red". While I enjoyed the tasting, I chose not to buy any of the wines to take home. There was nothing that wowed me enough to make me wish I could have it again, and, for the price, there are better offerings available. The reds were mostly in the upper teens to $20 a bottle and I can find wines more to my liking at my local wineshop for that price or less. read more

I don't know much about wine, but I do know that this place has a great atmosphere and super friendly staff. They have a warm an inviting feel when you step onto the grounds unlike the other wineries in the area. This by far is overall the best place to come to just sit and relax and enjoy the warm weather, or if you're looking to entertain some friends. The have a nice selection of wines to fit anyones palate. I enjoy sweeter, sparkling type wines and will always have a glass of the Shades of Risque. In the fall and winer months they will offer mulled wines and in the summer, wine snow cones!!! They do allow you to bring a picnic which is nice. Great people and great atmosphere. read more

Just a delightful place to stop! We did a wine tasting here on a beautiful Friday afternoon before the weekend rush really started. The staff was super friendly, very informative, and just generally fun to be around. They let us bring our golden in to meet their new puppy, so she got to socialize with everyone as well. After our tasting, we sat outside on some of the Adirondack chairs and just enjoyed the view over the fields. Not a bad way to kick off the weekend. The wines were all superb - thank goodness Sunset Meadow will be at some of the local farmer's markets this year, so we don't have to go too long in between bottles of that Barrel Aged 63. (And here's hoping they'll bring some "bitch bags" along so we can make those delicious wine slushies at home. If not, totally worth the pilgrimage.) read more

Wine isn't bad and it is a beautiful vineyard but they do not allow you to enjoy yourself. They have someone walk around and make sure that you follow their rules to a fault. They told a group of people behind us were told to stop playing cornhole and they politely complied and put their cornhole set against a tree near their spot. Then the guy came back and told them they needed to take their cornhole off the tree. Then they come back a third time to tell them they needed to keep their dogs leashed and attached to their chairs. I'm not sure how didn't leave, they were very patient but then after coming to another vineyard we talked with a couple who were kicked off the property for breast pumping for her baby. Just don't understand the point of having a vineyard if you won't allow people to enjoy themselves and unwind. read more

I just visited Sunset Meadow Vineyards for the 11th or 12th time, and as always, the service, experience, setting, prices, and wine were top notch. DO NOT miss the Merlita if it's available when you go! (Sorry for the caps...but trust me on this one). SMV is situated on a picturesque little hill in Goshen. There is ample outdoor seating that overlooks the vines (though a few more tables with umbrellas would be welcomed on hot days), and a beautiful big porch with rocking chairs to sip wine from. Unlike some other CT vineyards trying to emulate their snobbier Napa cousins, SMV allows you to bring your own picnic and enjoy it on the grounds, so long as you purchase some wine to go along with it. They also sell basic picnic fare like crackers and cheese in their tasting room gift shop. SMV has one of the nicest tasting room staffs on the CT wine trail. The tasting is $6 and includes the glass, and you can add on a sample of their dessert wine for another $2 or so, or a chocolate truffle for around $1 (don't remember the exact amounts, sorry). Highlights for me are the Blustery Blend and Sunset Blush (sweet, fruity whites) and the Twisted Red (a full-bodied Cab blend). Their newly released Shades of Risque, a sparkling pomegranate wine, was refreshing and tart-sweet; I purchased a bottle. Now for the fun stuff! In the fall and winter, SMV offers hot mulled wine that will make you swoon. They combine two of their red wines, I believe, add mulling spices (sold in the shop), and heat. Perfect for sipping on their porch on a chilly day. But the highlight for me--and why I always bring out of town guests and visitors there--is the Merlita. The Merlita is basically a grown-up slurpie: a red wine slushie made from a secret recipe. It is so good, you could easily relax on their patio, listening to the live music offered on weekend afternoons, and finish off two or three of these before you know it! It's a must-try, for sure. If you pay for a wine tasting, they will usually offer you a small sample of the Merlita before you buy a whole glass...but no one I have ever brought to SMV has tried the sample and not purchased a whole glass! Five stars for service, atmosphere, fun, setting, decent wine, and a great variety of offerings. So glad this vineyard is only 20 minutes from me! read more

2nd stop on NW leg of wine trail on a rainy day. Inside is dark and small but lit up with white christmas lights. Very cozy AND lively. Wine hosts were very attetive and friendly and didnt try to oversell. We were able to sample a hot white wine/apple concoction and it was amazing. We bought a bottle of white wine and the mix to make later on a nippy day, which we did and it was soooo freakin good! We will be back.. especially now that we moved 15-20 minutes away and I want to try this "slushy" everyone is talking about! read more

Went to Sunset Meadows and had a wonderful time. The staff there is always so nice and knowledgeable. As soon as we went up for a wine tasting Chris the server gave me a carnation and wished me a Happy Valentine's Day! I love they gave all the women a flower. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. We bought a bottle to drink there at one of their tables that was decorated for Valentine's Day. This is such a cute little vineyard! Like a little farmhouse on a fairytale hill. I always think that when I drive up here. Open, airy...and when the weather is nice, sit outside and bring a picnic. Merlita: a frozen slushie type treat made with merlot. You will love it; theres nothing about this treat thats NOT to love, especially in the warm months. Other than this fun surprise that came out at the end of my tasting, nothing really stood out to me. I'd say that I enjoyed all the wines and the service I received, but feel kind of regretful that I chose to have the chocolate pairings with my wine. Even a small amount of this excellent local chocolate is more than enough, but the large chunks of chocolate I was served managed to take center stage to the small pours. With that being said, the pairings were perfect. The chocolates chosen to accompany each wine were the perfect complement. However, either a smaller piece of chocolate, or a more generous wine pour would be helpful in showcasing the flavors of the wine. We went for the barrel festival this past weekend and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. This may be no fault of SMV's-- I think they were completely overwhelmed with the amount of people that showed up due to the living social deal. That being said, the festival was a mess. Hardly any vendors, a sad selection of foods and the wine tasting itself was more like a cattle call-- think crowds of people standing in a tent (which was muddy and disgusting due to the previous day's rain) to sample "tastings" (read: a small sip) of some mediocre wines. We actually threw in the towel on the festival and wondered over to the tasting room-- the experience there was far better. The grounds are gorgeous, and you can purchase a bottle of wine and sit out on the patio to enjoy it. I would reccomend bringing your own snacks, as the selection in the store was a lacking (but if you're not picky about your cheese, you will be okay). The tasting itself was fine; nothing spectacular. As is common with CT vineyards, the wines run on the sweet side. The Chardonnay and the Merlot were both enjoyable. But, really, you're there for the experience and the view. Plan on bringing your own fun. read more

Love coming to Sunset Meadow! It may be a little nostalgic because it was our first vineyard we visited in CT 2 summers ago, but they still are the standard. Awesome staff with a terrific, knowledgeable tour. Small but beautiful tasting room with a nice area outside & patio. The grounds hold a Barrel Festival every summer & it is a blast. Our favorite is the Cayuga White, bursting with flavor, we always go home with a bottle. In a disappointing trip to HB, down the road, we popped into Sunset Meadow because we wanted to go home with a bottle of wine. The Cayuga White was the go-to. Make Sunset Meadow the reason you come to the Litchfield Hills for the many different vineyards but be warned, THIS is the standard & save the best for last. read more

So- We arrived to Sunset at 4:58. We completely felt like jerks because they close at 5:00. We decided to ask if we could get a tasting since there were so many cars still left in the parking lot. We were traveling from Hamden-so we figured we would ask. They couldn't have been more gracious. They did tastings for the 7 of us. We ended up spending about $150 in fifteen minutes. We used to get the merlitas as on the regular, what are merlitas you ask well they are made with SMV merlot and crushed ice and it's like an alcoholic slushie!!!!!!! God I love this place! Try the, well, try everything! Lol that's what tastings are for. And if you're in the valley Zois pizza palace in Seymour sells their wine and also has a great great great pizza! This is a wonderful vineyard. Most of the white wines are suprisngly good for the Connecticut area. I'm not a fan of their red wines. We first went to this vineyard to listen to live music. While there we had a wine tasting which was awesome. We were given many wines to sample and the owner's son really explained a lot about the wines and the vineyard itself. It was very informative. Afterwards we bought a few bottles of wine, which turned into four, and enjoyed a picnic at the vineyard with the new wines bought and our food while listening to some great live music. It was a great experience! We recently returned to the vineyard to sample some of the white wines again this time to purchase a case of wine. We selected 12 bottles total and were given a 10% discount which is to be expected. I was sad to see though that we were still charged both a tasting fee even after purchasing a case of wine. Most vineyards would waive a tasting fee with a purchase so I was disappointed in this respect. Tasting fees are $6 per person for a tasting of 5 different wines. The bottles we purchased ranged from $15-$22. We were also not provided for any foil to wrap the bottles with after we had indicated these bottles were going to be a gift. Most places will provide you with foil/ribbon when wine is to be given as a gift. Again I was disappointed with this and hope they will improve on some of their policies. That is the main reason while I will not give this vineyard a 5 star rating. read more

This place is my favorite winery! They have an excellent variety of wines at great prices. I like that they have both dry and sweet wines. I like the dry wines, while my mother prefers sweet wines. It's perfect! The people who work here are helpful and kind. They actually delivered 3 bottles of wine to me for free in April during the COVID-19 crisis. I stopped by the other day to pick up more wine without calling first, and they got the wines I requested in 5 minutes. I live 30 minutes from here, but it's worth the drive! We went here wine tasting and Chris was truly excellent. Not only was he warm and welcoming but very knowledgeable and interesting to speak to. We ended up staying and tasting extra wines because of him. Some really interesting wines, we bought several. (Gift shop is great too). Make sure to say hi to Julius the very friendly winery dog who is nearly as welcoming as Chris! Highly recommend a visit here if you are in the area. Sunset Meadows is a must visit for all wine lovers when visiting the Litchfield/Goshen area. I have been here a number of times and most recently went yesterday with a few girlfriends for a "ladies day". We started off with a tasting and then purchased a few bottles to share while we enjoyed the myriad of snacks we had packed. The seating area inside isn't huge but it's perfect for this time of year when they are a little less busy than in the summer. My personal favorite wine is Shades of Risque which is bubbly and sweet, but not too sweet, and would be perfect for a special occasion. The views during the summer are gorgeous and there is a quite a bit of outdoor seating. read more

Stopped by this vineyard based on other peoples yelp reviews later Saturday afternoon after some apple picking. It was not overly crowded which made it more enjoyable. We had a few tastings and then ordered a bottle of wine to sit outside with. They have plenty of chairs, tables, picnic tables for everyone to share along with indoor seating. The view is nothing to write home about but it was nice to look out into the vineyards. The place would get another start but after purchasing a bottle of wine to enjoy on their property they make you drink out of a plastic cup. This totally ruins the mood. I'm sure they are being cheap and don't want people to steal the glasses but what does that really cost you? The wine we choose was really good but I won't be coming back since I have to drink out of a plastic cup like a kid. I've been to tons of wineries from CT, to NY (various regions) down to Virginia and out in California and this is the first time I have been told I can't take a wine glass to enjoy my $20 bottle of in. I love the wine here! It's fruity and light but they also have some darker reds. I prefer light and fruity so I love Shades of Risque (fruity sangria like wine), Blustery Blend (crisp light white) and the Sunset Blush. I've been here many times and it doesn't disappoint. There's a cozy fireplace and the staff is nice and attentive. On my most recent visit, I tried one of the wine slushies; so good! They also had mulled wine kits so you could make their mulled wine at home with the Cayuga White.
