We're visiting the area for a couple days, stopped by this morning, Found it on google. The food was very delicious, service was great except a minor hiccup of communication on drinks. Received more drinks than ordered but the waitress did fix it. The food was so delicious, the pancakes were so good and buttery. Would definitely recommend this place if your visiting the area. It's a diamond in the rough. Looks like locals enjoy this place just as much. Pricing is reasonable and very comfortable. I just had breakfast at sunshine cafe. I have visited often but this experience sealed the deal. I ordered the quiche with fruit. What I got was a small rankles of fruit and a inedible small round Burnt quiche. I tried to use the butter Knife to cut it but it was burnt and hard on the bottom. I would guess it's one of those quiche's that you buy from a grocery store or Costco that you microwave. I informed the waiter that it was burnt and hard and he said they may have left in to long. I ate the small ramakin of fruit and my friend ate only half of what was edible of his breakfast. I got the bill and was still charged for my quiche even though they knew it was burned and I did not eat it. I don't blame the waitstaff for this. The kitchen should never send out food like that and the manager cleared doesn't care if you are not happy with what you received and did not eat. I guess charging me $14.00 for something i didn't eat was actually for the chair I sat in and the soda I drank. read more

Rolled in on a Tuesday at around 1pm and it was halfway full. We were seated at the back quickly. The servers were all very nice. The place was mostly clean and well lit. I ordered the California omelet and it was pretty good and FULL of avocado! The country potatoes were slightly soggy. And the food needed salt. The coffee was hot but on the light side.. Was at Sunshine Cafe today 5/5/23 this early afternoon between noon and 1:00 pm. Sat at the front bar, cafe wasn't busy. Waitress in late 50s to early 60s waited on me, she seemed at the end of her wits...tired...ailing... Was getting my car serviced at Palm Springs Nissan and instead of waiting the hour or so in the Nissan waiting area, I decided to get some food within walking distance. Walked around the area, saw this place was pretty crowded on a weekday morning, and looked on yelp to see if they had a good rating, so ding ding ding, this place was a winner. The service was awesome. Wish I knew my server by name, so I could give her a shout out but I forgot it =(. I liked the atmosphere as well. It's a cute and clean little diner and has a very homey feel to it. My only knock was that the food wasn't really great. Trying to be healthy, so I ordered a veggie omelet with side of fruit. It was decent but nothing to write home about. I think I need to give this place another chance and order something fattening like the corned beef hash. It might make my review a little more favorable. One thing I did to give my dish a little ore of a kick, was ordered a side of salsa. My awesome server brought over a pico de gallo and salsa verde. Came here on a Saturday, June 20 at 7:45 am for Breakfast. Old obese rude white waitress snap at me and yelled 6 feet distance! Why did you put a chair in that counter then??? You should have mark it or removed that chair then. I then politely ask her If I can have my order to go and if it's alright to rush it. She snapped and said you're rushing me! Worst breakfast place ever!! Where do I begin? Well, we sat at the counter because we got there late on a Sunday morning, thinking that the service would be faster. Wrong!! We were offered coffee, placed our order and waited almost half hour to get our food. The food was really bad. My omelet was paper thin, the vegetables overcooked, canned mushrooms and very little cheese was put in my omelet. No salt or pepper, no spices at all!! Tasteless. We have been to Sunshine Cafe several times in the past 6 months. For years we would pass by before a movie or shopping and we'd say "We gotta try that place sometime." The side lot parking was always filled (a good sign). So... we did. And about that time they started doing dinners too. The last time we were here (a few days ago for breakfast), everyone sitting at the booths and surrounding little tables began talking to each other. It was like having breakfast with old friends. It started when one customer came in and said "Buenos dias! Good morning!" It triggered conversation between all of us, like we did this every morning. It was the homiest feeling I have ever experienced at a restaurant. The very first meal (breakfast) I had at Sunshine was the biscuits and homemade sausage gravy. I wasn't impressed. Biscuits were dry and hard (kinda stale) and not only not enough gravy, but it was not very well seasoned. I ate about half of my breakfast. I know the photo I posted looks like the biscuits had plenty of gravy, but they were so dry, they really soaked it up, and I didn't have enough gravy left by the time I started to eat the second biscuit. The breakfast specials are good though and that was what he got the first time. So I was willing to try the place again. Since then, we have no complaints when ordering the breakfast specials, or the egg combo breakfasts. Came back with some friends another time, for dinner. There were five of us and we all ordered something different. I had the Chicken Livers with Caramelized Onions & Mushrooms, with (my choice) salad and mashed potatoes. It was excellent. He had the Beef Stroganoff dinner (with soup and biscuit), and found the Stroganoff to be bland, so he wasn't too happy with his dinner. Mama Dee had the Fish & Chips. Nice big pieces of fish fried just right and perfect fries. Also came with a salad. She was pleased. "C" had the Bubba Burger (double 8oz patties and 2x cheese) and fries. He loved his burger, and said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. "E" decided to have breakfast for dinner and got the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs; finished it all and no complaints from him. With the exception of the Stroganoff, we were all pretty happy with our meals. We have also had the Lasagna and the Lamb Shank dinners. He loved the Lasagna and would order it again, but my Lamb Shank tasted frozen and reheated even though it seemed to be cooked perfectly (texture). With the exception of breakfast, the meals have been somewhat hit or miss, and we are thinking (hoping) maybe growing pains of expanding the menu to do dinners also. So 3.5 stars overall. And the reason for the 4th Star? This place has the best coffee (consistently) of any restaurant we have been to in the Valley. Hands down. Most restaurants have coffee that tastes like the kind you make in your hotel room with those awful, skimpy, low quality coffee flavored sawdust packets. The coffee at Sunshine Cafe tastes like the coffee we make at home. read more

Two years ago I moved to the east valley, after living within walking distance of Sunshine Cafe for years and have eaten dozens of breakfasts there. Today, my experience left much to be desired. Sat outside due to Covid-19 concerns. The Waitress, Fawn, was totally charming, provided menus, and great descriptions of their home cooked meals. So, we bought dinner to take home. Their food is GREAT! Had splendid Lamb Shank, with great mashed potatoes & excellent veggies. Also home cooked chicken vegetable soup. I live in Palm Springs and my best friend purchased a home in the Cathedral City Cove about one year ago. This was my first time at the Cafe. I started going alone since it was so delicious. The short Latin man is the best server. I am not sure if the tall, equally nice man is the manager or owner. I was there last on Saturday, giving a friend a ride home. The time was about 11 am. Absolutely almost no one was in the front dining room. Usually, not one unhappy word about Sunshine before this late morning. I usually love the Mexican Omelette yet decided to order the Monte Carlo and asked for fried or hash browns. The very sloppy, dirty haired, torn jeans server took our order. She told me fruit was too expensive to change for potatoes. B.S, you server the smallest, bowl of cubed up watermelon and honeydo melon in the industry. My friend Jeff ordered the breakfast burrito. At rhis point, I even had to ask for water. The food took an extra 30 minutes to arrive and my sandwich was burned, the meat tasted like a bottom of a shoe and my potatoes were cold. My friend ordered the breakfast burrito, came w no sour cream yet a tiny bowl of melon that he did not even eat. We had to hale this pathetic server down just to get our check. We both took our leftovers to go and threw them in the bin on the side of the Cafe. We will hope to have a better experience should we try again but never, ever with that sloppy, dirty, holey, jeans wearing server. There is a new owner, and things are NOTHING like they used to be. For starters, it's not friendly in there. Takes them forever to get your order, and then when you get it, it's another disappointment. The portions are a lot smaller. I ordered a pastrami, and it was flat like a pancake. The dinner salad had a cucumber slice, one cherry tomato, and about 7 strands of lettuce. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and it was so burnt he couldn't eat it. Very friendly and timely service. The location is quick and convenient as well which is nice if you're in a hurry. Ive had a few different things on the menu and I think the breakfast burritos are their strong points. Never disappointed with those. Just a tad pricey for what it is though.
