It was 1 day before 4th of July. I went on yelped and searched a great breakfast spot to eat. This place had the most reviews and the highest rating so I gave it a try. The night prior, my fiancé that I love more than anyone in this world had drank wayyyyy to much and wanted to lay out in the sun and roast a bit. In Palm Springs none the less. Unfortunately for me, my skin is fair and light so I burn easily. I opted to go eat breakfast. I arrived and was sat down immediately. No one wore masks and I was the only one wearing one. They took my order and I got Pancakes Hashbrown It took some time to come and that's the reason for the 4 stars not 5. The food was nice and my fiancé was extremely jealous I had a great breakfast and she didn't. She insisted on going back the next day and I told her sorry you have to learn your lesson on you snooze you lose. Instead she picked IHOP and that was by far the worst experience I ever had. Driving through area and found this little restaurant on Yelp. It's an old nondescript building which gave the impression we should try something else, but the parking lot was full so we decided to give it a try. Indoors was clean and organized and appeared to be full of locals, which is always a good sign. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was served hot, well seasoned, and we enjoyed our breakfast of Spanish omelet and eggs with bacon and hash browns. Instead of toast I thought I'd try the biscuits and gravy which was an additional cost which was fine. The biscuits were dense, dry and not flaky or particularly flavorful. There wasn't enough gravy and it needed more sausage and flavor. As others mentioned the OJ was expensive but my husband enjoyed it. If fresh squeezed as noted on menu, it's not an outrageous price. This favorite local establishment, small business is well acclaimed, and is favored by so many locals. It has a very relaxed ambience, and has a nice slow small town feel to it. The decor looks like something out of a 1970s movie and I swear I've been going here for two decades, and nothing has changed, which actually adds to its charm. The food was quick Lee served, and I was able to substitute for my California omelette instead of turkey to have sour cream, which was yummy fresh warm in with hashbrowns. This is a great place to be casual, or on Thursdays with your hair is messy, or you haven't thought of what you were out of the house, or maybe you were just up all night, this is a place for you. It's a nickel galactic crowd from seniors to gays, too young folks hanging out, and just having a chill place nothing fancy all the basics, and all the casualness, with a little greediness from some of the weight stuff, and others are quite charming. read more

Stay away from this place. It's a dingy diner with mediocre food, slow service, and terrible ambiance. Food isn't even cheap enough to warrant coming here. Frankly, eating at Dennys is better than this cockroach hole. They let dogs inside the diner, which was a big red flag. For all the rave this place was getting from my partner's friends, I should've known better as soon as we parked across the street. Don't eat at Sunshine unless you want to cheapen your trip experience to Palm Springs. Filthy place. read more

It's your standard old-school café. The service was very very good. But the food it is overpriced. Maybe I'm just not used to these crazy California prices yet. I lived here 2 1/2 years ago and it wasn't this bad. I've been in Florida the last 2 1/2 years and this breakfast would've cost me $14 out the door instead of $21 out the door tip included. It was just two eggs over medium, some nice rye, toast, buttered, hashbrowns, and corn beef hash. Nothing other than that and it was 16 bucks with tax and tip. Our desert vacation began with breakfast in Cathedral City. Good thing GPS claimed that we reached our destination, because I drove right past it on the first try! The building is small, but we were still able to be seated indoors. Hubby was happy with his 2 eggs, chicken-fried steak with homemade country sausage gravy, hash browns and English muffin. I chose the Veggie Omelet, and they were able to make it with egg whites per my request. The 3 egg whites (with spinach, onions, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms & jack cheese) made a filling breakfast, along with home fries and sourdough toast. I was alone so I sat in the back, ordered and soon after, the waitress asked if I would mind moving to the counter because they needed my table. I first started coming to this restaurant over 20 years ago. I have always ordered the same breakfast, the "Sunshine Special". 2 eggs, hash browns, and a huge pancake and coffee included. In 2001 it was $2.99. Today it is $10.70. Still a good value. Service is always friendly. It's the typical American diner. And when I'm dining alone, I sit at the counter, as I've met many interesting people over the past 20 years. It has a varied menu with lots of choices for breakfast and lunch. read more

It's an older diner that looks like it was once an older house. Nothing super special. Food was good, but service was slow and they seemed to have plenty of people working. Bathroom was tiny and nowhere near ADA compliant. Served and paid attention to locals, to the point they had a nice older couple get up and leave because they were finally seated but no one ever came to take their order. You can do better in Cathedral City if you looking for some place nice and friendly. If your looking for good food and not in a hurry it naught be worth a visit. read more

Be prepared to hunt for a parking spot, as they only provide a few. The rest is street parking which is difficult to find a spot far away. We were greeted immediately and seated in a tiny room located in a dark, cold eating area. I asked a waitress to wipe down our table, as it was sticky. She said the table was sticky, as it's an old table. They should move it to a seldom-used area, or buy a new table. The order was incorrect, as the sausage was missing from one plate. I was required to ask for a glass of milk twice, as I was not served milk and water with the meal. I didn't receive offers for more coffee, although I asked. The eggs got cold waiting for the toast, sausage, and the unserved milk. The back dining room is difficult to walk to, walking through a service area where toast is prepared. I watched the server walk around with the bread in his hand, before toasting it. That appeared to be a violation to me. I have never received the end piece of a loaf of bread served in a restaurant before. That is the restaurant policy is what we were told. We waited 15 minutes for the check, and I was not offered coffee refills. Terrible ambiance, service lacking, improperly served food, and PARKING as walking from your vehicle to the door are torturous with a cane. Sunshine Cafe has lost me and a friend from another household, as customers for good. NOTE to staff and management: ask the servers to look at the order to check for accuracy before serving. Also, check in on the customers instead of walking quickly past your table and ignoring their waving and asking for service. This was the worst experience of service 'EVER'. read more

My wife ordered the Chicken Walnut salad and I swear it looked liked a bit like dog vomit on poorly cut fruit. My wife is not picky at all and she barely was able to eat this. I got biscuits and gravy with eggs bacon and hashbrowns. I really thought this was hard to mess up, but the biscuits and gravy was overly sweet and not tasty at all. The hasbrown had no real flavor but at least weren't burnt, the eggs were ok but a bit sweet as well (why is is everything sweet as opposed to savory). They only thing that had a somewhat appropriate taste was the bacon but it was a bit too salty. Cute place but man the food was a real letdown. We're visiting the area for a couple days, stopped by this morning, Found it on google. The food was very delicious, service was great except a minor hiccup of communication on drinks. Received more drinks than ordered but the waitress did fix it. The food was so delicious, the pancakes were so good and buttery. Would definitely recommend this place if your visiting the area. It's a diamond in the rough. Looks like locals enjoy this place just as much. Pricing is reasonable and very comfortable.
