Two Eggs & Country Pit Ham
Jason E.

Just had to go back and they were hopping today. I had the two eggs and country ham, goodness so good. If you're in town, you must go.

Jeff L.

My niece came down to visit us so we decided to go to breakfast at the Sunshine Cafe. What a wonderful decision. The service there is exceptional with such a large menu it was nice having someone to help you make your decisions. The ambience was very casual and very comfortable. And the food more than you can eat cooked to perfection every bite delicious if you're ever in the desert and you want a great breakfast make sure you go to the Sunshine Cafe.

Here's a more informal version of your review: Food - We got the full stack and the two eggs with a sausage patty combo, which comes with hash browns and toast. The pancakes were huge, fluffy, and so good. If you're sharing, definitely go for the full stack! We asked for scrambled eggs, so the only reason I'm taking off a star is because they weren't exactly how we wanted, but it still felt like a cozy, home-cooked meal. Service - The service here is super friendly, chill, and attentive. As soon as we walked in, someone greeted us, and we got to pick where we sat. They checked in on us just the right amount too. Ambiance - This place is kind of tucked away on a corner, but it's such a hidden gem. It has that old-school, vintage vibe, kind of like a restaurant you'd find by a lake or river. The inside feels like a retro mobile home. We had a great breakfast and will definitely be back. Thanks for a great experience!

Veggie omelette from sunshine cafe

First time here and what a very welcoming restaurant, breakfast was delicious, the best veggie omelette I've eaten for a long while , kudos to the chef and staff for their welcoming spirit . Please try this restaurant for a tasty breakfast.

Food is always soooooo good. It's a tiny, unassuming diner that's existed for ages. Friendly wait staff and a wide variety on the menu. Great mimosa specials on the weekends! I highly recommend checking out this quaint little spot if you're in town!

Orange juice at the Hyatt Regency room service is cheaper than this restaurant

Food is always good. If you're comfortable with the crappy music blasting in the background on a portable speaker and $7 bucks for an 8 oz orange juice give them a try. I won't go back. Orange juice is not $7 a glass.

Chorizo and egg burrito with home fries
Javier S.

Good breakfast. I hand the chorizo and egg burrito with home fries. The burrito was tasy; loved the chorizo. The eggs were cooked well. If you like cheese, you'll love the melty cheese in this burrito. The home fries were cooked qll. The way through, but I prefer a more crispy (near burnt) potato. I'll ask for that next time. The service is friendly. The ambiance is breakfast diner like, cozy.

chili size that does not have the sourdough that is listed on the menu. This burger patty was oversalted. That potato salad is excellent.

I used to come to the Sunshine Cafe often. When I moved here, in 2015, I would stop at the Sunshine Cafe for dinner, on my way home. I could sit at the counter and have a decent dinner, for not that much money. They often had a daily special, which I would often try. Those days are long gone. In the past few years, the prices have gone up considerably. Ok, other restaurants have done the same. I don't mind paying for quality, but I don't see the value anymore. When they removed the stuffed peppers from the menu, I switched to the lasagna. It was good, but not great. The last time I had ordered it, I swear that tomato paste was used, as the tomato flavor was concentrated and overpowering that I couldn't eat it. I sent it back, which I never do. So, I didn't order that again. Tonight, I ordered a chili size. The server had no idea what I was talking about. So, I pointed to the item, on the menu. I could see that she didn't know the menu well. The menu said that the chili size had sourdough. I asked for potato salad, instead of fries. I'm glad I did. (photo uploaded) I got a hamburger patty covered with chili. There was no sourdough. (Sourdough is a strange choice, as most everywhere puts a hamburger bun underneath.) That wasn't the end of the world for me, so I didn't say anything. I definitely don't need the extra carbs! A small ramekin of shredded cheese and a small ramekin of chopped onions were on the side of the plate. There was also a dish of potato salad. I took a bite of the burger and chili and was immediately surprised at how salty the burger patty was. It was more than aggressively seasoned. The chili was delicious. Had I gotten fries, which would have been salted, it all would have been too much. If I got a little potato salad with each bite, it helped. I didn't send it back because I was hungry and didn't want to wait. Note to self, don't get the chili size. It wasn't the best dinner I've had there. But the real kick in the pants was my iced tea. An iced tea is now $5. A large soda is $5.95 at the Mary Pickford theater across the street and they offer a larger size and a refill. This may be my last visit. If I'm going to spend this kind of money, I want everything perfect.

None that I am aware of, however I would be leery of them being sensitive to not cooking your food in a pan that is used to cook meat products

The new location on Date Palm and Gerald Ford location is a hidden gem and the inside is very welcoming. If you've been to the Philippines, the setting is similar. As a Filipino American born, I'm impressed with the "Escape to Manila meets with High Tech Bay Area" settings. You still have the Cafeteria style settings, which is the staple style restaurant, you normally see in the Philippines. Restrooms are very clean and packed with amenities. I'm ecstatic with the place and that's an awesome improvement than the last location. Service, make no mistake, you will feel at home more you're in a restaurant. The cashier is very helpful and understanding. She suggested an $11.00 plate deal, with Pancit and a choice between a 1 piece leg or thigh fried chicken piece or 4 lumpia Shanghai. I opted with the chicken and I ordered lumpia and type price of $16.00 I spent is worth it. Food is amazing and fulfilling. If you're looking for a Fried Chicken other than the Commercialize like KFC, Popeyes and even Jollibee's, Apong's Fried Chicken has the various herbs and spices and it's not salty nor bland. The texture of panko instead of flour makes the texture perfect and it orchestrates the taste with it. Pancit or Filipino pan fried noodles, similar to the Chinese Chow Mein, is a must try. Very dedicated ingredients of veggies and chicken, as well as herbs, spices and sauce is well put together. The taste is fantastic and it's not salty nor bland. Delicious!!! Ube Cake and Ube Ice Cream is a new trend and the rave of delicious is skyrocketing with the general audience. I recommend stopping at Apong's Philly Cheesesteak and Much More, if you're craving Philly Cheesesteak or Fried Chicken. I recommend the Pancit as well.

With a recent expansion to their space in Cathedral City, this location has become a gathering place for Filipinos in the Coachella Valley area. Thus we went out of our way to find this place for dinner. I found it to be mixed, and can't really recommend their food. It's a nice space inside, with a fast casual setup (order and pay first, and the food is brought to you when ready). It wasn't particularly friendly when we first arrived to the empty restaurant, but it got better as we ordered and ate. Cheesesteak Philly Style ($15.99) and Apong's Special Philly Style ($16.99). They come with fries, with an upcharge of $1 for cheese. Both had grilled mushrooms and onions mixed with the chopped steak. The Apong's special adds both cheese whiz and american cheese to the standard provolone. Both are served on Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia, which is genuine, but not particularly fresh when brought in daily. (the rolls tasted a bit stale to me). The amount of meat given could induce a hungry person to order a double portion as well, though it was just right this day. I definitely like my cheese steak with cheese whiz, and this version confirmed that (though if not offered, a good dallop of mayo is good as well, mixed with the melted provolone). Strangely, the showstring fries were the most disappointing part of the meal for me...fries can be good if the right effort is made, but that wasn't the case here. They had been deep fried a while before, and had been sitting in a warmer until served to us...thus were dried out and pretty flavorless. With what we ordered, a new batch of freshly made fries would have gone a long way to put us in a good mood, especially for dine-in. Chicken Mami Soup ($14.99) - a large bowl of chicken soup. For this price, would have hoped for something more homemade. The broth was fine, but seemed to be made from either canned chicken broth (benefit of doubt) or more likely chicken powder. Also used dried spaghetti noodles, which is not something I seek out. It did have pieces of white meat (breast) and fresh chopped vegetables like cabbage and carrots. Tasted fine, but wasn't particularly hearty. Reminded me very much of saiman, except for the price. Halo-Halo ($14.99) - it was good. Few beans (which is often used as filler), but instead large pieces of sweet plantains. It also had plenty of condensed milk and two large scoops of ice cream (both ube and vanilla). Used crushed ice, instead of shaved, which does make a big difference in consistency, but understand it's harder to do since time consuming. Apong means grandmother in Ilicano, which is the third most spoken native language in the Philippines, after Tagalog and Cebuano. The owners and workers seemed to be originally from that region; and it's really nice to use such a nice term of endearment for their endeavor.

The service was great and friendly, and willing to seat us even an hour before closing their lunch hours and giving us lots of time and patience and never let our waters get low either! Everyone really enjoyed their food. I found the salmon crepe to be really delicious, served with a jammy egg, a generously sized portion of salmon on a bed of spinach with some creme fraiche all wrapped in a delicious crepe wrap. I've never had anything quite like it. Also major compliments to the simple but refreshing side salad that came with each of our breakfasts, but we were also given the option of potatoes or mixed berries. Menu is pretty much same as I remember from last time. Of course the Bloody Mary is always a must here. Started off with that. Food wise, the andouille sausage omelette served with potatoes or a salad and avocado. That also comes with a side of baguette. And the baked brie platter which is a shared starter. But works also a meal if needed. A nice hefty portion of baked Brie with hazelnuts, both ciabatta bread and Asian pear as well as date jam. And a side order of bagel and cream cheese. Food was good. We've only been for brunch and each visit was great. Dinner is a prix fix menu which we have never been. Service was great and the staffs were all very friendly. Water was constantly filled when it was emptied. Until next time.
