One of my favorite spots in the desert... I usually come here when I'm HUNGRY. Their portions are two meals worth and yes, the food is fantastic. Service is never an issue, in my humble opinion of course, even if they do get busy. If you're the kind of person that needs to be waited on constantly, this place is not for you. Around breakfast and lunch time, it can get packed, but again, the food is worth the wait. One thing I will say, is that when it does get busy, you do have to get creative to find parking in the area. There's spots across the street at the theater, the bar on the opposite of the smaller street the place is a corner on, and if there is street parking, you may need to walk a bit. I'd say there's room for a good 50-60 people? But I am guessing on that one. If it is packed, you may need to wait. The building itself is a bit inconspicuous, as it does blend with the auto shops a bit in the area... so slow down if you're gonna look for it. They usually have one of those little inflatable bouncy thingys and a sandwich board outside their front door as well for more visibility. There is a handicap ramp on the left side of the door for those of us that need it, but once you get inside, it maybe a challenge, especially if you use any sort of special equipment for your needs. I use a cane, but I can imagine if someone where in a wheelchair, it may be an issue. The prices are average, some things more than others on their menu, but again, the food is worth it. Ambiance is cozy and has a warm country diner feel with people working there making you feel more than welcome. All in all, I highly recommend this restaurant- because it's hard to find a place that has simple basic comfort food, with good people at a reasonable price. Especially in the desert where things can get gimmicky and unnecessarily too posh. read more

We are pretty regular customers here and never had an issue but today was awful. We got seated and server came by and took our drink order (coffee and water) and left menus. About 20 min later he came by again to take our breakfast order and we told him we still hadn't gotten our coffee. He apologized, took our breakfast order and then rushed off, presumably to get our coffees. 5 min later he brought coffee to the table next to us who came in AFTER we did! We told him he forgot our coffee. He apologized and hurried off, again, presumably to get our drinks. 5 min later a different server came by and said "I'll get u guys some menus". We told her that we had already ordered but hadn't yet gotten our coffee! Another 5 min went by and still no drinks so we got up and left. Super disappointed, Sunshine. Do better. read more

Darling, delicious and retro are the words that come to mind. I've been eating at Sunshine Cafe since a great friend took me there in the early 90s, for an experience that was nostalgic back then. The food is consistently satisfying, using fresh ingredients, and there's a warm retro energy that we need from time to time. The owners and staff here really care about the product quality, and offer caring and warm service. We cannot give what we do not have. The owners here are remarkable and diligent in keeping the food quality up. I've never met them, but it feels like the staff is treated well and respected, and they pass that on to the customers. They know they've got a good thing going here. You could drive by this quirky looking spot for decades and never go in, but you'll be cheating yourself of a great little, no nonsense, find. read more

When we lived closer, we use to go here every weekend for breakfast the service was friendly , engaged they always brought out water for our dog. Prices were great Food was old fashion diner faire But just fun environment. We were taking out daughter and her family to airport and thought we'd swing by for lunch ..it was busy.. but the service was awful. After waiting 15 minutes to give our order. , I got up and went to kitchen to ask for help... then after waiting for our food for 20 minutes, again I went to front to ask what problem was..there was 4 plates off food under lamps There were ours Seemed no one even new which ones were ours. They brought our 4 orders .. then 5 minutes later another , then 5 minutes later another .. always very apologetic. , but that's a sad deterioration of what always use to be a well run , competent restaurant read more

Sunshine is that greasy spoon you think of when Coco's is just too boring. They have an extensive menu and hit all the favorites, both Mexican and American diner style. I had the chicken fried steak. It didn't look too big, but it was more than enough. The plate could have easily fed two. The gravy was a little sweeter than I expected, but i ended up enjoying it. Perfect eggs, crispy hash browns, no complaints. My wife had a breakfast burrito. It was also very good, and equally large, with a tortilla that didn't taste like one from a grocery store. Local friends introduced us to this place. Dubious as we approached the neighbourhood. What a find! The food is excellent - every time - (I've returned here multiple times since being introduced in 2023. No ambiance to speak of, just excellent staff, suberb service, delicious and generious portioned food. I've had a regular breakfast, huevos rancheros, smothered burrito, ALL #1 ! This is a regular on our list of local restaurants. Prices are great, service is excellent, and always a helpful and happy staff. read more

We had a good experience overall and the servers were really kind that they even split up the banana pancakes for us so we could share. I also got hot coffee which was bottomless and really good. Man, after visiting Sunshine Cafe for brunch, I forgot just how much I love brunch! It was nice to have this gentle reminder over some delicious eggs benedict. Sunshine Cafe definitely brought on the sunshine, which was a great way to start our day. We visited Sunshine Cafe, as my friend's family recommended this spot while on the prowl around town for some brunch. We were able to be seated immediately at one of the outdoor tables, and soon after we arrived, every table was taken. The place was busy the entire time, with outdoor dining patrons and takeout orders. The menu featured a lot of different items, with classic breakfast staples and even lunch offerings. I ordered the Mexican eggs benedict, which came with chorizo and green chiles on an english muffin with a hollandaise sauce made with Cholula hot sauce. For most of the breakfast items, you have a choice of hashbrowns or potatoes. My Mexican eggs benedict was fantastic! I loved the Mexican twist on this classic breakfast entree. Plus, I'm a sucker for sauces, especially a hollandaise with a hint of spice from the Cholula hot sauce. It was a win-win. Eggs were perfectly poached and the chorizo wasn't too salty. The only minor issue was that the hashbrowns were bland, but luckily my hollandaise sauce added the kick it needed. My friend also enjoyed her crab eggs benedict, which was a lump crab cake that was fried over an english muffin. Sunshine Cafe was a great place for brunch. As mentioned, the place was super busy on a Sunday, so it took awhile to get the check. But all in all, this definitely hit the spot and reminded me that I really should go out to brunch more. read more

The two of us arrived early for breakfast around 8am. We were told there was seating in the back but we literally had to walk through the kitchen to get there. It was weird. We were given room temperature water with no ice to drink. There is literally nothing vegan on the menu. No surprise. We had pancakes and French toast. We waited a long time to order but the food came pretty quickly after we did order. Waitress never checked on us, never refilled the warm tap water, etc. Long story short the food is decent but not a great value and the service was terrible. I hate to think it was racially motivated but can't think of any other reason we were so ignored. The restaurant was not busy the entire time we were there. read more

We've been going there for years and have enjoyed it! Unfortunately, their prices continue to increase and now it's $1.95 for a soda refill! But even worse the food is getting terrible! I had a chicken quesadilla that was mostly green peppers, a bit of chicken and a little cheese, served on a stale, rubbery tortilla! My husband had eggs Benedict that had a very yellow and tasteless hollandaise sauce! The service, by a young man who has served us many times, was excellent! Went back to the cafe and must admit we were a bit disappointed with the food. Ordered steak and eggs with a biscuit. Steak was a bit overcooked at the requested medium. The biscuit was very dense and heavy. Also ordered a hot pastrami sandwich with French fries. The fries are the pre-seasoned type. The sandwich seemed to be pre-sliced pastrami on a store torpedo roll. We have been here before and enjoyed our meal much more. Could be the items that were ordered are an afterthought on the menu. But nothing special on this trip. Friendly staff but the best I can do is 2 stars today. read more

Finally I come to this little cafe that I have driven by for years. They are super pet friendly& we sat outside, they have 2 tables out front. The customer service was amazing, very friendly ,very knowledgeable of menu items. I walked inside & the AC awesome but we had a puppy with us & I we wanted to be respectful to the other patrons. My Denver was good, hash browns perfect but the chilaquillas were ok not great. I'm for sure going back & thanks for the great service read more

After being away for a long while we decided to return to Sunshine for a meal and sadly it will be the last we visit this location. This business has been around a l o n g time and we have been visiting for 20 years. Up until Covid, the prices were spot on. On this last visit the prices tripled! This is an authentic greasy spoon with a remote location in a building that has never seen a remodel. If you charge high prices update the interior, change the scenery, new counter, less clutter...but there is no reason whatsoever to explain the prices in this location. Tip to the waitresses, your paying customers deserve your best service not to a select few. We were all appalled how you were treating a certain sector of patrons for the 2 hours we were there. read more

Driving through area and found this little restaurant on Yelp. It's an old nondescript building which gave the impression we should try something else, but the parking lot was full so we decided to give it a try. Indoors was clean and organized and appeared to be full of locals, which is always a good sign. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was served hot, well seasoned, and we enjoyed our breakfast of Spanish omelet and eggs with bacon and hash browns. Instead of toast I thought I'd try the biscuits and gravy which was an additional cost which was fine. The biscuits were dense, dry and not flaky or particularly flavorful. There wasn't enough gravy and it needed more sausage and flavor. As others mentioned the OJ was expensive but my husband enjoyed it. If fresh squeezed as noted on menu, it's not an outrageous price. Would go back again but without the biscuits/gravy or OJ. read more

Went there this week for first time since under new ownership I sent my meal back 3 times It was awful and I couldn't eat it I had the fried chicken which looked like a chicken McNugget with a bone in it Diners beware !! This place is a perfect little spot to stop and eat, we were hungry my husband and two small kids but I didn't want to deal with trying to find parking at the other restaurants near by. It's cute inside not a very big restaurant which is fine. I ordered a bacon avocado cheese burger (made it sorta custom) with no bun. Trying to do keto, the burger probably would have been much better if I had a bun so that was my bad. Their fries were soooo good, they have like a seasoned topping but look like they are fried differently than most places My husband got the banana pecan pancakes, those were pretty good, I'm not a huge fan of any types of nuts in my food, so again. Probably not a good judge for the pancakes haha the server was outstanding so patient, we kept trying to change what we were gonna order while still ordering haha and she was very helpful and didn't seem bothered by us.
