Mike, Mike, Mike! Where are you? Quality at Sunshine Cafe is taking a dive, and some staff don't seem to care anymore. My wife got rotten avocado on her breakfast sandwich. She ordered the Skier's Breakfast sandwich - but Kevin the server decided that she ordered the Snowboarders sandwich. And chef decided to give her rotten avocado. Showed it to Kevin - and he said "yeah, we have an issue with our avocado supplier". Showed it to Mike's (owner) wife - and she said same thing. They both were aware of rotten avocado issue. WHY SERVE THEM IF THEY ARE BAD? Very disappointed in the quality. What else is rotten that we CAN'T see - that they are serving? Stopped by this place as we were in town and it clearly does good business. We were there on a weekday and got seated quickly (no wait); however, the place was busy. Service was great. Food came quick. Price is reasonable. Please was clean. Food is above average. I personally think this is a place you go to for a straight forward/simple breakfast (eggs, bacon, waffles, pancakes, French toast, etc). Others in my group got a variety of simple breakfast items and loved them. I got the breakfast burrito and was not impressed. The tortilla was soggy and just seemed super store bought. The chili on top was weird and not great. Not much bacon in the breakfast burrito. Two tiny slices of avocado (not enough). I've had way better. Wow! We stopped at this place for breakfast before Breck. Unknowingly, we found a gem of a spot. The restaurant is a typical breakfast, brunch, and lunch places that closes in the early afternoon. It was a busy morning, but we were able to be seated in a short while. Our server, Amber, was super fun and friendly. She was also very good at recommending specials. I had not been to the sunshine cafe in many years. Since I was last here, they expanded the dining room and took over the space next door. The food is still excellent and price reasonable considering it is located in the mountains. They specialize in breakfast and lunch. With Covid 19 restrictions being followed only two parties are allowed at the counter. I had the BLT with an iced tea and it was excellent with lots of bacon and delicious bread. I splurged and had the French fries. They came out hot, perfectly cooked and not greasy. The lunch cost just a little under $15 before tip. A steal considering the quality of the food and the resort location. They have been voted the best in summit County for years. read more

Just average in my thinking. Orange juice was above average but probably not fresh squeezed. Pancake syrup was below par, log cabin adhesive, definitely not real maple. The French toast lacked the powdered sugar they described in the menu. But it was ok, but nothing to rave about. Bacon was fine. They had to RE cook mine as it wasn't extra crispy. The eggs were over cooked, dry and kind of rubbery. Pricing is about right. I would describe my experience as that of an ordinary breakfast diner with average food. read more

The service was decent though and I'm sure I left a 20%+ tip as I have worked many years in the industry. The second time I went in, I thought I'd try something else so I ordered the steak and eggs. I also asked for the hash browns to be crispy. What I received was deep fried shredded potatoes. I couldn't tell if this was sarcasm or just lack of understanding of how to cook hash browns. Who actually orders food like that? Ridiculous. So for a diner, I'm pretty disappointed as good hash browns are hard to get. Then, the server tells me she's giving me my tab. No inquiry as to how everything was, because I'm pretty sure she knew, and the total was default set to 25% tip! For what? If I'm paying almost $40 for breakfast, you'd hope they get it right. We didn't know this until after ordering our drinks, but they didn't have espresso. They were, however, serving cappuccinos and dirty chais, both of which are drinks that require espresso. If I could I'd be giving this place 0 stars! I hope you have a better experience than we did if you choose to try and eat here! We asked to sit outside and was told there would be a wait which was fine but after a while we noticed a man get up and go sit at another table with someone else leaving his computer and other stuff at the table. After some time we decided to go ask the hostess if by chance that man was done, hoping to get that table. The hostess along with this older woman both told us that that was their MANAGER and that they were not moving him or any other customers which we didn't ask them to but I guess it's more important for the MANAGERS stuff to take up a table instead of letting paying customers sit there! Real nice guys! Both the hostess and the older woman were snarky and rude to us which is the main reason for my bad review! We WON'T COME BACK because of how we were talked to! At one time, not long ago, you could expect fresh-baked breads with your tasty egg dish. Now it seems that you should anticipate a gooey microwave-heated cinnamon roll, on par with fast food drive-in, and wait staff that seems to want you out as fast as possible even while the cafe is almost empty. Dear manager: waitstaff hovering over your table is not the same as waitstaff being attentive to guest needs.
