Can I be honest? This place looks like a dump, you would never think they served food and who knows if the place is up to code but the Burgers here are fantastic, probably the best burgers I have ever had in my life. And I've had many many burgers, I know more about burgers than probably anybody else. And this place has the best burgers. The people that work here are wonderful people very nice people, great people. I would love to buy this place and remodel, rebrand it but keep the same people, same recipe and same grill/griddle, whatever that thing is...I'm sure it's part of the flavor. Finally got to try their hamburgers after hearing so much about them. I have had breakfast here probably a decade ago, and it was HUGE. The ladies who own and work here are SO nice and the locals seem to keep coming back. It's an old filling station/general store which no longer sells gasoline, but they seem to be doing just fine with the food. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. You can get just about anything on it you want, including Jalapenos if you want. I got mine with the usual lettuce, tomato and mayo, as well as hots and grilled onions. When I got the cheeseburger, I was amazed at the size. It was HUGE also. It's so big, they cut it in half for you. The bacon cheeseburger and a bottled soda was about $11, which isn't bad considering how big the burger is. When I bit into it, it was probably one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. Even cooked well done, it was nice and juicy, had good flavor and was a meal in itself. I'm definitely going back when I get a chance. The place is cramped, so be careful when you go because they do a good business. read more

I love their burgers. They are some of the best you can find. But I always get them to go since I only live 5 miles away. The place is a dirty dump, inside and out. I suppose part of the allure of this place is you walk away wondering how a run down place like this can make such a good burger. A lot of regulars come here, that should tell you something. One thing that confuses me is how fast or slow they are with your order. I have had my burgers ready in 7 to 8 minutes (the last time I was there) and the time before that it took them 45 minutes. I love little dives like this one. The country store feel is on point!! The staff is friendly and helpful and there is a sign out front that clearly states that they do not sell gas. I was not looking for a gourmet burger... And I got what I came for. A huge fresh cheeseburger. It was moist tender and NOOOOO fillers!! Other than the normal burger toppings and a little salt and pepper it was one of the finest hand crafted - homemade burgers a hungry girl could ask for. If you are looking for fancy or franchise don't bother making the trip. If you are on a road trip and want a burger worth the wait then come in, sit down and grab a few napkins!! i used to stop in here quite often after a long day of kayaking on the nearby reservoir for a soda and then one day, as i was paying for the drink noticed the delicious smell of something cooking and walked past the aisles of food and noticed for the first time a small counter, a couple of tables, a menu on the wall and a grill. once i found that, i was hooked. it is pretty much my favorite breakfast spot on a sunday morning not only for the food (you have got to try the pancakes - they are GREAT!) but for the friendly ladies behind the counter. don't expect fancy. don't expect calorie conscious meals. don't expect egg dishes with fancy french names. just good basic food cooked well, attentive service, great conversation if you want it and an experience that is sadly, getting harder to find in this cookie-cutter restaurant world we live in these days. read more

Plenty of beverages offered for sale, as well as other items to go with your burger, if you have room!!! So sorry that Sue is gone, as she was always efficient, delightful and friendly. She really cared about how YOU wanted your burger and her customers. The newer staff we've met are all charming, friendly and very capable. CONS: one Latino gal needs some re-training in that she tends to overcook the burgers,oversalt them, smash them and cut them ( to test doneness, I guess) so much so that when she prepares the burgers, you get a dry, lifeless,tasteless, salty burger. You can tell her how you want your burger, but she ignores what you ask for just to get you gone.She also can be very harsh and unfriendly. The people on here who called this place dirty, moldy, eeeewwe and such are seen before they come in and we do that so you will leave and never come back.. What jerks! This place, hands down, has the best burgers in Maryland bar none! The ladies that cook have been there for many years and keep the place up as they have time. I have washed dishes for them myself many times so they can keep the food coming for all of us regulars. To the naysayers "go to Five Guys" that is where I got food poisoning and will never go again! You would never believe this place if someone told you about it. It is located in a general store and from the outside doesn't even look like it would serve food. You walk in and it is a very old building and basically is an old run down gas station. You go to the back and the two nicest ladies take your orders and make the burgers. This will make sense to you when you go. I've always known this place as Sunshine Burger. That's what my friends call it, that's what I call it, and I couldn't even find it on Yelp initially because I thought that was legitimately this place's name. But alas, I went today and felt compelled to spread the word of the deliciously customizable fresh burgers that you can satisfy yourself with if you get off your butt instead of settling for Five Guys or the Tavern (The Tavern's burgers are a great local take-out option, but that's for another review). I went in today as part of a nice Saturday drive to the somewhat decrepit building I know now as Sunshine General Store. A friendly "hello!" greeted me as I went in and ordered a cheeseburger with onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo for $6 and some change plus an egg on top. There's only one table for sitting so really you don't have much of an option if there's a party there eating and you intended to eat there. They do have bar seating in front of the grill though. Anyway, I waited longer than I would have liked (between 10-15 minutes) but they were fairly busy and the food is made to order. Great meat, thick patty, fantastic egg for the burger I thoroughly enjoyed and the friendliness of the woman at the grill was pleasant as well. They know how to cook, and man their prices for a half smoke ($3) and a steak and cheese sub ($4!) were surprising. While I'd love to try them, I don't know if I can ever drive up to Sunshine without getting the burger instead! read more

I was dressed for work in office clothes and was treated with the same kindness as the "regulars". I are outdoors at a picnic table. Community seating inside at the long table. This is the best burger I've ever had. If you are looking for fancy buns and crazy unique toppings this is not the place for you. However if you like fresh beef with tons of flavor and cooked to perfection this is the place. I stumbled upon this place by chance . I had been driving from Howard county where I had finished some yard work. I was tired, sweaty and my baby in the back was screaming. I thought to myself man I really would love a burger right now. I looked up from the traffic light I was stopped at and saw a sign. "Sunshine Burger" my prayers had been answered. As I pulled in my next thought was this building looks pretty sketchy maybe it's abandoned but I walked in anyway. I was greeted by shelves of cereal, fishing lures and other odds and ends but what kept me from turning around and walking out was the beautiful smell of that grill located towards the back. I gave my order to the angel behind the counter and I was very surprised when she reached into the fridge to pull out a giant mound of ground beef and slapped it on the grill. After it was lovingly placed into my eager hands I took my first bite. It was juicy, tasty, yummy in my tummy and surprisingly not greasy. I was able to eat that whole thing and didn't feel gross I just felt satisfied.
