Great place for burgers and fries, didn't get to try the kabobs on this visit but will definitely be back! Got the cheeseburger and loaded fries. The cheeseburger also came with fries, which were a huge portion. The loaded fries had steak, onions, and their special sauce. I love the veg samosas here. They are a good size, stuffed with flavor. I get them unheated and take them home to heat fresh in the air fryer. The two sauces are good, but spicy. I like them and also the Trader Joe's mango chutney. Maman Joon's also has meat options. I've also had their butter chicken, which is very good. Their milkshakes are thick and homespun. The ice cream is so thick you have to work on getting the shake up the straw. I consider this a good thing as you know it isn't processed stuff coming out of a machine. I need to give their burgers another try. The fries and onion rings are good, too. This place is on the higher $ side but the food is fresh and the staff is pleasant. Let's start with the warm service from the moment you walk in. Burgers and Persian dishes, can't ask for more! The combo dishes with beef and chicken kabobs are the best dishes to order. The side salad is more like a full salad. With a tasty side dressing. The chicken was tender and juicy, the beef was tender and flavorful. Even the rice had a delicious buttery flavor. The only aspect to improve is the onion and tomato that comes with the combo. Could be grilled a bit longer. Next, the crepes! Ripe bananas, sweet strawberries. Clean bright and interesting combo. My daughter and I went for the kabobs but I wish I could try the burgers too. I got the Koobideh kabob with salad and my daughter got the salmon with rice. Also tried the Kashik o bademjan appetizer- eggplant with spices. It was chunky tasty and I loved it warmed up. They served our kabob orders with pita and chick peas. I tried Maman Joon Kabob/ Z Burger and loved it! I got the delicious Maman Joon Combo 1 with chicken kabob and ground beef koobideh. It also comes with rice, bread and the essential sauces. The customer service here is amazing and super hospitable. They personally bring your carry out order to you instead of yelling your name, and they even have free tea while you wait! I went here on a late night. I've been here once or twice before. They have a vast menu offering so many things from burgers to kebabs to crepes. Service is fairly quick no matter what time you order and no matter what food you order. Usually i've gone later at night and it hasn't been super busy and it's usually been quieter. The ambiance is a little more chill. When it comes to the food I don't think it tastes bad but I'd say it's pretty average. There's nothing super amazing about the food and because of that I feel like it is a little pricey. I would honestly prefer to get a chenjeh with rice somewhere else just because I don't think the price matches the portion elsewhere. The actual meat isn't as juicy as other places either. I had a very discouraging experience at Maman Joon that I would like to share to discourage anyone from patronizing this business who wants to be treated fairly. I love a good kabob and rice plate, and I had been wanting to try this place for a long time! I came on a Sunday evening and ordered a family platter to take home and share. The meal is listed as $59.99 on the menu, which is pretty pricey but not outrageous for the DMV. So imagine my shock when I was charged $69.99. That's almost 20% more than what's listed? I pointed this out to the cashier, who told me that the prices had recently changed and there's nothing he could do. His plan was to say nothing to me and... hope that I wouldn't notice? The price on his wall was wrong--that's a fault of the establishment, not of me. To say that there's nothing they could do except update the menus sometime in the future is extremely disrespectful. And the fact that they didn't even disclose it is EXTREMELY shady and rude. This is deceptive at best and criminal at worst. The food is fine--the chicken kabob honestly rocked--but how could I ever in good faith recommend this business? Also, the milkshake was really bad. The beauty of this place is that there is a menu item for everyone, even the fussy eaters. I've been a few times, I've tried the burger, butter chicken and chicken kabob with rice and I haven't had a bad meal. My son likes their hamburgers; my daughter likes their crepes. Z Burger in Olney - Cheesesteak Cravings Satisfied So, I was craving a cheesesteak (again), and Z Burger in Olney came through. I ordered the 8" Bacon Philly Cheesesteak with hot peppers, no tomatoes, and everything else loaded on. Jasmine went for the Lettuce Wrap Burger with jalapeños. To round it out, we shared some crispy onion rings. Total came to $29.54 -- not bad for a solid meal. The cheesesteak? Exactly what I wanted. The bacon added a nice crunch, the hot peppers gave it some heat, and the meat-to-cheese ratio was spot on. I'm realizing more and more that I love cheesesteaks where you can really taste both the meat and the cheese, and this one nailed it. Jasmine's lettuce wrap burger looked pretty fresh too, and she gave it the thumbs-up. The staff here is super friendly, and even though we came around 2 PM on a Sunday, it's great knowing they're open late. Most nights they're open till midnight, and on Fridays and Saturdays, they're open until 2 AM. Perfect for those late-night cravings. Sautéed eggplants, just ok. Original yogurt drink, not bad, milky and not sweet. The skewers are delicious, every single one was good. The burgers were juicy. Watched out for the fries, all you need is ONE , the size of the fries is huge, shareable for the entire table. Strawberry crepes with drizzled chocolate was fantastic. Great, very authentic Persian restaurant. I've been looking for a kabob place that serves chicken and kobideh in this original style for a long time and I think I've found it here. The food is very well priced for the portions and it was delicious. The restaurant is also a half burger place which I ended up getting 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings from which also ended up being great. Looked on Yelp for a place to eat after an evening show at the Olney Theater. Glad we came. I had a turkey burger ($9.39) (toppings included - got mine with everything) and side of fries ($4.99). My partner got the chicken kabob ($15.99) with salad. Everything was good. To be honest, the burger and fries were essentially like a Five Guys situation. Huge portion of fries (I got a small) - basically threw out over half the fries. The burger was well prepared and the toppings were good, but, as I said, if I were blindfolded and ate the burger and fries, I would have assumed I was in Five Guys. My partner enjoyed the chicken kabob. I tasted the chicken and agree that the chicken was moist and seasoned pretty well. The Kabob included a large salad, which was fresh and tasty. The place seems a bit pricy to me, but then again, so is Five Guys. I think I would stay away from the burger if we go again and try a cheesesteak or kabob or other item on the menu. One thing I liked about the place is the eclectic clientele there on a random Friday night after 10:00 pm. Families, sports teams, high school kids, young adults, a table of police officers. I was excited to try this new place based on what I read about the DC location. This shop shares a location with Z burger (like a combination KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell) and all the workers and clients are over there. That's the first clue this might not be ideal. So it took awhile to get an employee to grab my take out order, cause of the Z burger thing. Three stars are for just the koobideh, that was moist, perfectly cooked and delicious. The rest lacked. I eat a low sodium diet only cause I don't really like a lot of salt and I can't believe I'm saying this, but please dear God add some salt to the rice. This is probably the worst soggy rice I've ever had and it has the color of saffron, but absolutely zero flavor. Please call your maman joon for a recipe. Salmon kabobs was a tiny portion but had good spice. Baklava was super dry. It would have if they sumac to go with the kabobs. Just... WOW! And I mean, WOW! This was hands down the most incredible Persian meal I've ever had. Having explored nearly every Persian restaurant in the area--including the renowned Shamshiry and Amoo's in Northern Virginia, both of which are excellent--I can confidently say this place stands in a league of its own. Frankly, how Moby Dick's, located just around the corner from Maman Joon, is still in business is beyond me. Every dish we tried was perfection. The koobideh, chenjeh, joojeh, and salmon were all unbelievably moist, bursting with flavor, and perfectly seasoned. Each bite was a testament to the artistry and care put into their preparation. What truly set this experience apart was the unexpected gem: the Pakistani chickpea dish served on the side. It was, without a doubt, the best version of this dish I've ever tasted. There's a touching story behind it as well--a Pakistani chef who once worked here introduced the recipe. His innovation and passion made such an impact that even after his passing a year ago, the restaurant continues to serve this dish in his honor. It's a beautiful tribute, and the flavors reflect the love and respect they have for his creation. What an incredible find! The warmer kept the food hot. Everyone at our event raved about the food. The flavors were exceptional, fresh and most of all plentiful. The staff is always so nice and eager to please their customers. The atmosphere is odd however put that aside and enjoy the food. You will mot ne disappointed. Saturday 12/20/25 I went to this establishment and ordered take out for my son and I. When I got home and we started eating we realized our order had been made wrong - we ordered 2 dbl cheeseburgers and both burgers only had 1 patty. I called restaurant and was told by the manager he would call me tomorrow (Sunday) and refund my money. By 5 pm no one had called so I called them. The manager offered me a burger. I explained that I was not coming there for another burger and felt it was right to refund the cost of my meal. The manager said I would have to speak to the owner. I explained to him that I felt this situation should have been rectified the night I brought it their attention. The manager tried to justify the error by saying "mistakes happen". I agree to that but a customer should not be penalized for a businesses mistake. I again requested a refund and explained without a refund he would be losing a customer. My wife and I each ordered a hamburger and we got an order of onion rings which we didn't finish because of the grease. For the price they charge, one would figure the food would be half way decent. I ordered from this location through the yelp app and picked it up for lunch one day. I was hoping that the food would be really good so that I would have a new place to check out for lunch. Unfortunately I was not impressed. The fries that I ordered were way over seasoned which made it hard for me to enjoy and the chicken "wrap" that I got didn't have good flavor and I tasted more char than anything else in some bites. The entrees come with an appetizer side of pita and like a bean dip. It's very refreshing. All the portions are good. The sandwiches are wrapped in a pita. Everything is very tasty and flavorful. They also have complimentary hot tea and I loveeee hot tea. I believe there are free refills on the other drinks as well. The service is great, they keep the place clean. Ok, so someone took the Five Guys model and just carbon copied it. Expensive burgers that are pretty good. (Except my bun was slightly stale). My issue is that the meal ends up being $23 for a burger fries and a soda. That's just too much money for what you're getting. The enormous small French fries shtick is also pretty lame. Of all the fast casual Persian restaurants this is easily my favorite. I eat a lot of Moby Dick and Caspian so I was excited to hear of a new place opening up near me. I stopped by around dinner time and it wasn't crowded at all. The menu is a little confusing because it's combined with Z Burgers menu. I ordered the beef kabobs and they were able to let me add an extra kabob for $7. The kabobs are super tender and juicy and the white sauce is really good. I'm not a huge fan of their bread but the rice made up for it. They have packets of sumac to take home with you so you can season til your hearts content. This time I ordered a to go chicken kabob entree and was disappointed that it did not come with the usual chick peas. I called about it and was told that to go orders don't come with the chick peas and that it is complimentary while dining in. I mentioned I was not informed of this and would they be able to make it right for this and I was told they would not and I could buy the chick peas. Considering I've been coming here numerous times and have highly recommended to many people, a nice customer service gesture to offer the chick peas would have gone a long way to retain me as a customer. Highly disappointed at the lack of "making right" by the customer for a misunderstanding about to go orders. It really wouldn't have cost much to retain me and my many referrals and this complaint is primarily based on principle about how to treat customers. Very disappointed with the way this was handled. I'm not being hyperbolic because I even said to my husband: This is the best chicken kabob I've ever had in my life. I got the salmon kabob. The salmon was exactly as I'd hoped it would taste--charred but as tender as butter. It wasn't fishy tasting at all, but I'm not opposed to fishy tasting fish (to a certain degree), like many are. So, if you're one of those people who hates fishy fish, you will be safe ordering this salmon. I don't even understand how they physically accomplished this, but the chicken was the same as the salmon. I've never had more tender, mouth-watering chicken kabob in my life. I will just leave it at that because I'm frankly at a loss for more words to describe it. The kubideh was also the best I've ever had. The steak kabob was good, but not the best I've ever had. I don't care, as long as the chicken, salmon, and kubideh are as amazing as they are. Now, I saved the best for last, and I can't believe I'm raving about a vegetarian dish when I'm such a meat fiend, but the chickpea side dish they give with entrees is simply unbelievable. It tastes how it looks--full of sweet and savory spices. Tomato and chilis seem to make up the rest of the substance. I love this dish so much that I would absolutely love to be able to order it as an entree. Like I said, I'm not inclined towards vegetarian dishes, but that's how good this dish is. I was impressed by how streamlined and clean the restaurant was. The signage was crisp and easy to read. Bathrooms were new and clean. I'd like to recommend they add a hook to the back of the door so women don't have to put their bags on top of the trash can. That is probably a cheap fix, I'd imagine. The service was wonderful.
