Just wow. Came here because I was missing my old school TC Pastry and found something better. The wrappers on their dim sum are like the mama bear's bed, not to thick, not too thin, just right. My go to dim sum spot for lunch or for family parties! I usually order the Hargow (shrimp dumpling), siu mai (pork and shrimp dumpling), steamed shrimp rolls, fried shrimp dumplings, and sesame balls. They sometimes run out of items, so I usually call ahead of time to check what they have available and place an order via phone. Whenever I come by the workers are very friendly and provide quick service. Prices for dim-sum are affordable and an order usually comes with 3-4 pieces. They accept credit card with a $10 purchase minimum. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, so it would probably be best if you bring someone along with you. read more

I am a freak for Wheat Field Dim Sum. My #1 order is the Shumai. Each and every time we make a stop we need at least 6 pieces per person (1 order = 3 pieces). If you've tried other dim sum spots (especially with shumai0 and compare it with Wheat Field's, you'll see what I mean. Wheat Field's pork and shrimp is consistently juicy and it is virtually never served old, or dried out. I've even compared their shumai to the one spot on Clement. I just don't understand why Wheat Field doesn't receive enough love. While the shumai is steamy and flavorful in its own right, these pork/shrimp filled sacs pair so well with a hint of soy and red hot chili oil. The servers and cashier are always busy, especially in the mornings. They operate with quickness and the confidence. I like the fact that Wheat Field, recently started accepting debit/credit cards (couple of years ago?) Wheat Field doesn't have much of an ambiance since it operates as a "pay n' go" dim sum spot. But you'll be delighted to see fresh shumai and dumplings (deep-fried shrimp purses are my #2, btw) pop up behind the glass counter. Such a satisfying sight to see! The lady who took my order put all my dim sums in bags and I was a little irritated about the bags. How am I going to eat my dim sum and put hot sauce and soy sauce in a bag when I'm on the go? Sunshine Wheat Field Dim Sum is the sister dim-sum counterpart to the bakery next door, Fancy Wheat Field Bakery. During the peak of the pandemic when all the dim sum restaurants were closed, this place satisfied my family's dim sum cravings and revived our tradition of eating dim sum on Sundays! Instead of eating at a fancy seafood and dim-sum restaurant, we would have picnics and enjoy our dim sum from this place at a cheaper price. It was a win for us. Even now when the restaurants have reopened, we still visit Sunshine Wheat Field every so often and buy a lot of dim sum to picnic. In comparison to restaurants, their siu mai and har gow are smaller and along with a few other things on their menu, comes in threes when it usually comes in fours. Other than that, the flavor and texture are always on point. My favorite dim sum from this place is their fried shrimp won ton, which I pleasantly discovered, was better than most restaurants! There's shrimp and mayonnaise inside and with the fried exterior, it was wonderfully crunchy, creamy, and savory. As mentioned in other reviews, the ordering process can feel rushed and anxiety-ridden since there's a language barrier and there's often times a line behind you. Because of this, I never go here alone and always go with someone who can speak Chinese pretty well since I sometimes forget all my Chinese when I'm nervous! I was on Bacon street waiting for the stoplight to change when I saw a new glowing, neon sign with a grand opening banner from afar. Whooo hooo! New openings get me excited especially in this neck of the woods. Portola is one of the few neighborhoods in San Francisco, along with Visitation Valley and Excelsior that hasn't been gentrified so many of these businesses are mom and pop shops (I hope it stays that way.) Helen Keller has better vision than my night vision so I couldn't make out the neon sign but I vowed to return to the next day with my contact bifocals intact. Unfortunately, Sunshine was like a cast of Daly City fog, it was really disappointing. Unlike their sister bakery, that has photogenic and good quality items, the stuff here were run-of-the-mill, like most of the other businesses on San Bruno Avenue. I grew up in the hood and it's sad that most of the eateries in the area are still mediocre at best. Sunshine sells buns, dumplings, jook, and noodle rolls. Except for their jook and noodle rolls, most items come in twos and threes with nothing over $4.50. CASH ONLY. For their grand opening, it's 10% off and I tried the following (please click on link for pictures): *Shrimp Dumplings (3 for $2.35): http://bit.ly/2HLfbYd Thick, opaque skin (lacked elasticity) with decent amount of firm shrimp filling. Usually this is accompanied by a sweet soy sauce for dipping but they just give you regular soy sauce here. Don't let the seemingly large, football sized dumpling fool you, it's mostly air. If they added more pork filling, this item would be good. *Steam Bun w/ egg yolk paste (3 for $2.35): http://bit.ly/2pnYaf9 Highly recommended by one of the staff, the chicken bun w/ a wedge of an hard boiled egg and piece of lop cheong (Chinese sausage) was just ok. The dark meat and cabbage filling was moist but very msg-y. While the bun was fluffy, the protein-to-carb ratio was also way off so I ended up tossing most of the bun. Since Yong Kee on Jackson Street closed, I have yet to find a chicken bun that rivals theirs. The Cantonese staff is nice but speak very little English. Even if the menu is also in English, they didn't understand the English translations so you may just have to point and pay. Parking is tough in this area but if you come before 9 am, you can park in the lot of the bank across the street. Maybe I ordered the wrong items but Sunshine seems like it's leaning towards a quantity versus quality concept, unlike their sister bakery. Affordable takeout dim sum - it makes a lot of sense for shelter in place time! It feels pretty safe with plexiglass in place and ensuring people keep an acceptable distance. One person inside ordering while everyone else forms the line outside. It's not dine-in restaurant quality but delicious nonetheless. The menu is clearly displayed so you have an idea of what's available - note pan fried buns were not when we visited, but given current state not having a few items on the menu is totally understandable. I came here several times since the grand opening for dim sum togo. It is a sister place of the bakery which is couple of stores down the same block (one sells baked goods and one for dim sum). I am a big dim sum fan and had tried all of the dim sum places on San Bruno ave over the years. There are quite a few actually if you don't like Sunshine dim sum. The dim sum here is good and bad, depends on the items. See my photos for item recommendations. So you gotta be picky when you come to this place and only ordered the good ones. The ladies who helped with the orders don't speak English well so my hubby has trouble ordering them, and got too much foods because I requested partial orders and ended up having full orders of everything. Tips: an order usually comes with multiple pieces, like 3 pieces to 6. You can make a partial order. So instead of 3 sesame balls in one order, you can order 1 piece which is 1/3 of an order. They will pro-rate the menu price for you. The milk tea here is always good and one of my favorite place for a cup of hot milk tea. read more

My family and I purchase buns from here all the time. Recently they had a price increase But it's bound to happen! This location has more options than the one in CT which is definitely a plus! They opened a dim sum shop 2 stores down and it's quite good. I'm a kid at heart so I ordered the shrimp dumpling and sui mai I also asked what this big potsticker wrap was and what's inside, a lady told me- chives, onion, shrimps I got 2, and when I got home! There's no SHRIMP IN HERE!! (Check out photo) Please inform your staff the correct ingredients in dim sums, because wrong information can cause a person to get sick if they were allergic to certain ingredients' But it was still good, my opinion, it's not as salty and flavorful but I like the texture and amora The Shrimp dumplings was good as well, lots of shrimps in there, the wrap is thin and soft The sui mai is juicey! read more

It's been a few months now since Sunshine Wheat Field Dim Sum (http://bit.ly/2NvpX8z) opened its doors, and I can honestly say I like them as much as their sister bakery Fancy Wheat Field Bakery located a few doors down on the same block of San Bruno Avenue. In their first few days of existence I had issues with the MSG bite in some of their fillings and the texture in others, but they seem to have worked out most of those issues to the point where I kind of look forward to visiting and trying out different items from their fryers and steam ovens. Some of the things I like in no particular order are: BBQ Pork Buns (http://bit.ly/2zaIVy4) - I like the taste of Sunshine Wheat's basic steamed bun dough which is lightly sweetened, soft and fluffy not super firm like some other dough. Occasionally I'll come across a piece of super fatty pork included in the filling but those times are rare. Four Treasures Bun (http://bit.ly/2zeSZpP) - The treasures are chicken thigh meat, Chinese sausage, hard boiled egg and a pork and cabbage ball all wrapped inside the steamed bun dough. In their opening days the pork and cabbage balls had a super strong MSG element, but they seemed to have lowered the amount of that now minimizing the MSG kick. Zongzi (http://bit.ly/2KLrWXT) - These are also referred to as Chinese Tamales. It is sticky rice and other ingredients wrapped inside bamboo leaves and boiled or steamed. The ingredients here are Chinese sausage, dried shrimp, a salt preserved duck egg yolk, a piece of pork belly and your choice of peanuts or mung beans. Shrimp Dumplings (http://bit.ly/2zaJuIc) - AKA Har Gow, the outer dough isn't the ideal thinness but you get a solid ball of shrimp with little filler inside. Shrimp Puffs (http://bit.ly/2Nq8RJc) - I think it's the same ball of shrimp used in the Har Gow but these are double wrapped in wonton skins then deep fried to crispy perfection. These are so good meaning they're probably so bad for you. Shrimp and Chive Dumplings (http://bit.ly/2u7ODeF) - The green chives have a strong flavor but I think they pair well with the shrimp inside these steamed dumplings. Taro Dumplings (http://bit.ly/2MT8MwP) - It's mostly minced, seasoned taro root mixed with a little ground pork wrapped inside the dumpling dough and steamed. Sesame Balls (http://bit.ly/2Ky5DWd) - These are often sold out so I know I'm not the only one that likes them. A big ball of red bean paste wrapped in dough and rolled in sesame seeds then deep fried. Red Bean Buns (http://bit.ly/2Ky0b5G) - You have to arrive early to find these but it's just a big ball of red bean paste wrapped inside their steamed bun dough. Things that I do avoid here are definitely the Pork Dumpling or Siu Mai. Besides being super heightened with MSG I've often found huge chunks of pork fat, pork cartilage and on two occasions even pork bone inside the filling. The Lo Mai Gai (http://bit.ly/2lY6y3H) or Chicken Wrapped in Lotus Leaf is pretty bland and forgettable. Most items are priced by the threes except for the Four Treasures Bun, the Zongzi and the Lo Mai Gai which are priced individually. Absolutely solid. The smell of the food was the first sign of greatness. Next it was the subtle steam of the baos that was total fresh perfection. The savory items also hit perfectly. We ordered about 4x too much food. But those leftovers were amazing and quickly eaten. My one critique is their ordering process is rushed and anxiety ridden.
