    Xiao Long Buns- variety
    Cheri L.

Xiao Long Buns! If you didn't know, they are like dumplings but have a bun dough instead of a dumpling wrap. These ones are also pan fried for that good and crispy bottom. I was only going to get 2 but HAD to try their different options lol. These were the ones they offered: Pork and cabbage Chicken and Cilantro Veggie (vegan- carrots, wood fungi, pickled veggies, vermicelli) Chives- green chives, shrimp, vermicelli, egg I'd have to say my favorite was the chives bun; it was the most flavorful and I enjoyed the differerent ingredients that were inside. Of course had to get the vinegar to top it off! They are a food stand so you will find them behind Serramonte mall Saturdays 9am-1pm or at the Sunset Mercantile on Sundays 9am-3pm. At the time, it was 2 for $5 or 5 for $10~

    5 for $10 rip-off

These are pretty bad. I was a sucker and bought 10 from their food stand at the Serramonte Farmer's Market. Talk about lazy wrapping! This is just basic flour dough wrapped around some very teeny tiny filling with hardly any meat in the center. Taste was completely bland. I'm thinking the cost per bun is probably a quarter and they have the nerve to charge 2 for $5, 5 for $10?! Total rip-off and I see so many people waiting for these not knowing any better. Every time I'm at the Farmer's Market, I wonder about these buns and now I know!

We visited for lunch and enjoyed a wonderful variety of dishes, each beautifully presented and full of flavor. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere, attentive service, and an extensive menu that makes it easy to keep coming back to try something new. Got there and checked in and saw the hostess write down my name on paper. Thought it was weird but whatever -- she told me she'd call me by name. There appears to be multiple waiting lists, one by in person and another through a different app. 20 mins passed by and she said our table still isn't ready. 30-45 mins passed by and still not sat down. I ask what's going on and she said it's due to graduations but it's late June? It's apparent that when I had checked in for my apparent reservation that I was really just added to the wait list along side anyone else who checked in person. Sundays are the busiest for dim sum but if I made a reservation, it should be honored. Guests are only allotted 15 min grace period but if the restaurant can't hold up their end, what's the point

Weekends are much different with a likely wait for a table of four. Challenge is finding a parking space in the busy Westlake District. Good but a small portion. The three large deep fried shrimp balls had a generous crispy coating. Enjoyable. Overall good meal...

No water, just pure concentrated flavor. The restaurant gets its name from simmering, one of the essential Chinese cooking techniques, and you can taste that philosophy across the whole menu. The Dry Pot lived up to the hype, but the real surprise was the skewers. Beef, lamb, and chicken, intensely flavorful and rich. I can't stop thinking about them. The potstickers were also way better than expected. Usually a throwaway order at most places, but here they were juicy and packed with flavor. The beef pancakes were fantastic. Golden and crispy on the outside, juicy flavor bomb on thes inside. Both crunchy and a little chewy (in the good way). Came back a few weeks later with friends and ordered the whole grilled fish, which I'd been eyeing since my first visit. It looked magnificent, but it didn't really pop the way the other dishes did. If you love fish it's worth trying, but the dry pot, skewers, beef pancakes, and dumplings are the stars here. We also got a few veggie dishes which were all great accompaniments...but nobody is here for the veggies. A few practical notes. They have a beer tap but it doesn't work, so if you're into beer, they've got a few options by the bottle. Parking is easy since it's in the Serramonte Center, and you can combine it with a trip to Jagalchi, Target, or whatever else you need. Both times I came there was plenty of seating. I'll be back soon, and next time I'm getting the dry pot with their handmade noodles.

We didn't have to wait long for a table; there were a few patrons here but it wasn't overly crowded. After we ordered, we didnt have to wait too long for our food to arrive, and when it did it was really good! The salt and pepper chicken wings had a nice crunch and were not overly salted, and the walnut prawns were delicious, and my boyfriend finished up their seafood porridge. The service here is quite good too; my boyfriend ordered the porridge and when it was delivered to our table, they even poured some in a smaller bowl for each of us which was nice. After our meal they even packed up our leftover food in to-go containers. The one thing though was that nearing the end of the meal I wasn't quite finished with my bowl of rice (I took a little break) but they mistakenly took it away assuming I was done. They didn't pack it with our other left-over food so they must have thrown it out :/ It would have been nice if they asked first before taking it, especially since there was still food in it. Overall, we had a really good experience here, both in regard to food and service.

They are located in a strip mall near several different food places, bakery, and a bowling alley. This is a solid dim sum place, with no frills and reasonable prices. You order off a printed menu that's in Chinese with tiny English subtitles. You can also order off their regular menu if you want to supplement the dim sum dishes. Their food is very good, and some dishes were excellent. The service was pretty quick, and before we knew it, all our dishes were out with almost no room on the lazy Susan. The standouts for me were: + Steamed custard buns (piggy buns) - I ordered these for the kiddies, but dang they are so good. The custard filling is so velvety, it's almost like pudding. I think I detected a hint of coconut too - yum. + Beef chow fun - this had a really good wok flavor and the noodles were less wide than most. The noodles didn't clump either, and the bean sprouts were still crispy. + Roasted pork belly - the skin was so crispy and the pork was juicy. We ordered most of the basic dishes like har gaw, sui mai, noodle rolls, turnip cake, stuffed eggplant, chicken feet, etc. and they were all above average. My only complaint is if you don't read Chinese, the menu is a little hard to navigate. The English subtitles are so small that if you're looking for something, you have to scan the front and back of the menu trying to find the item. I was looking for sticky rice in lotus leaf, but found sticky rice roll and thought it was the same thing. It wasn't. The sticky rice roll was not bad, but I found the rice drier than when it's in lotus leaf. We ordered a few things by mistake because the English subtitles were not that descriptive. Overall, a great alternative to more popular places like Koi Palace. The menu may not be as creative as Koi, but you don't have to deal with the lines and you still get great food.

The dim sum menu was extensive, and they also had daily specials. Everything we ordered came out hot, fresh, and in a reasonable amount of time. One of the staff came around with a tray of baked goods immediately upon seated. We tried the BBQ Pork pastry, and it was flaky, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweet and savory--definitely recommend that one. Overall, we enjoyed almost everything we ordered. The only miss for us was one of the fried fish dishes and the green onion mantou, which was just okay. Would we come back? Absolutely. The service was efficient, the portions generous, and the food solid. Great spot if you're looking for dim sum that delivers on quality without the usual weekend chaos.

Another guest was waiting for their take-out order. One server working the front of the house. Service was minimal but efficient at the same time. She brought us everything we asked for immediately. The menu is fairly large, but we still managed to order variations of dishes not listed on the menu. Most Chinese restaurants will accommodate a guest request so long as they have the ingredients and they know how to compose the dish. How they work out the pricing may be something else. At the table immediately behind my mom, I heard the guest ordering a Hot & Sour Soup, add Won Ton. One of my favorite mash-ups! We ended up having a very nice conversation over lunch. Of course, we ordered the same soup and the price they charged was a reasonable $16.95. I've had some places try to charge me for two soups which I think is ridiculous. We also ordered a Seafood Chow Mein and a Chicken Dry Fried Chow Fun with Yau Chow Sum. All three dishes came out nice and hot. The flavors were on point very satisfying. I goofed and didn't a picture of the Chow Fun because it came out last and I was already tucking into my Chow Mein. Mom enjoyed it so we'll be back!

Ordering was easy, the staff were genuinely warm and accommodating, and the food came out in about 10 minutes! No complaints on the service side at all. Honestly, the team here was a highlight. The food, however, was a bit hit or miss. What I'd recommend: Honey Walnut Prawns: The clear standout of the meal. Well executed, good flavor, and the shrimp were a generous size. If you come here, get this. What I'd skip: Fujian Fried Rice: Unfortunately pretty disappointing. The texture was mushy and it lacked flavor throughout. Wouldn't order again. Deep Fried Flounder: Way too heavily battered. The thick coating of flour overpowered everything and there wasn't much flavor coming through underneath. Could be a solid dish with a lighter touch. Seafood Pan-Fried Crispy Noodle: Decent enough but pretty flat on flavor. Just okay. Deep Fried Fish Balls: The flavor was actually there, which was a plus, but they were a bit overcooked and came out harder than they should have been. Overall, the service genuinely saved the experience. The staff were great and the vibe was pleasant. But the food didn't quite land for me and I likely won't be back. If you do go, stick to the Honey Walnut Prawns and maybe explore some dishes I didn't try.

We walked around looking. Another party came in after us, a party of 7 and they were even louder than us. Anyways, everyone just started making themselves at home. Took a table, got our own menus, etc. Quality/Quantity - Today we got the following: Boneless Hainanese Half Chicken - When I ordered this, I did not know it was boneless. When it arrived, I said to myself another skinny chicken, and then realized it was boneless. So for a boneless half chicken, it had a very reasonable amount of meat. I am not sure if I have EVER had an entire half chicken deboned for me?!?! I really appreciated it. And the accompanying ginger was so good; we asked for more. A little too salty for my guests, but I like salt. Clams with Black Bean Sauce - Good flavors. Decent portions, considering that it is a seafood dish. One clam still had some sand in it, but the rest was good. Chicken Chow Fun - Not on the menu, but they gladly substituted the beef for chicken for us. The chicken was very tender. Decent portions. I actually thought it had generous portions, until we finished it all. And we are light eaters. But the food here must be that good, because both my guests finished it all with NO leftovers. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant, with cool decor and even better messages! See all my pictures. Private room available. Two unisex restrooms. Both of which have positive messages; again, see pictures. Open 7 days a week from 10:30am to 9pm; closed Tuesdays. Plenty of mall parking, but it was FULL due to a busy Sunday lunch rush in the mall. Service - Good, friendly, and welcoming. Well after she finished working in the back...
