I purchased boneless skinless chicken breast from the butcher counter and was disturbed to find that green ink from the biodegradable produce bag used to wrap the meat had transferred directly onto the chicken. This is a serious food safety concern. Ink is not meant to contact raw meat, and consuming it is potentially harmful. When I brought this to the attention of manager Roger, rather than taking responsibility, he deflected by saying to "blame your governor" for the biodegradable bag requirement. That response is completely unacceptable. Regardless of what bags are mandated by law, it is the store's responsibility to ensure the packaging used for raw meat is food-safe and does not contaminate the product. If biodegradable bags are required, the store should be sourcing ones with food-safe, non-transferable ink -- or using proper butcher paper or certified meat bags as a liner. This seems to be a budgeting and supplier decision that the store controls. Customers should not be taking home ink-contaminated meat and then be dismissed when they raise a legitimate concern. I will be reporting this to my local health department and recommend others inspect their meat purchases carefully before consuming. Has this happened to anyone else? If there were an option to give zero stars, I would gladly choose it. I have never experienced a grocery store where cakes are available for customers to see, but the bakery closes at 7:00 p.m., making it impossible to purchase one. While I was there, another customer was also disappointed because the deli had already closed at 7:00 p.m. and they couldn't order any deli food. I asked if someone could simply retrieve the cake so I could pay for it at the register, but I was told no. It seems like cross-training associates to assist with basic bakery or deli requests after those departments close would greatly improve customer service. Super A Foods is well-rounded grocery store located in the Plaza with Shiki Buffet and GW Supermarket. There's plenty of parking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Right by the entrance, my eyes were met with a beautiful bakery section. There were Mexican pastries, tortillas, breads, pies, and cakes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The best part is the prices - they were surprisingly affordable. A decently sized Turkey-shaped for $20 felt like a steal. The fresh produce section was well organized. The 5lb bags of potatoes were only $0.99 each. The workers there were diligently stocking the potato section up as I was there. Some fruits and vegetables are cheaper at other grocery markets, but there are some good options here. I used to shop here many many years ago. I recently decided to stop by since it was the closest grocery store at the moment. There's plenty of parking. The security at the door was nice and welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a bit busy in the grocery section and they seemed to be fully stocked up on veggies and fruits.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I know prices are high everywhere, but the prices here were higher than Ralph's and didn't look as nice. I only grabbed a few things and headed to the meat department. There was no line for the meat, which was good for me, and so the young man asked what I needed. I asked him if they had a certain beef cut and he pointed out at it. *Ended up not being the one I needed.* I also asked for 2lbs of beef steak and was on my way. Unfortunately, the meat was hard/tough....I felt like I was fighting with my meat. It was not tender at all, which is surprising because I remember their meat was always so tender and soft. This time it was the complete opposite. For the price they need better quality meat. I don't mind paying higher prices, but the quality has to be worth it. This was not it. Would I come back? No, I would rather make the drive somewhere else with better quality produce and meat. read more

Finally got one of the coveted (for me anyways) grilled whole chickens they have on the weekend. Apparently it's gone up in price (was $9.99 before, now it's $10.99). But it's still so worth it. There were still plenty of chickens to be had at 2:45pm when I got mine after waiting in line for about 10 minutes. I also got a side of beans, $4.99 for a pound, same price as the rice, which I didn't get this time around, but I probably will next time. That chicken is so flavorful and juicy with that charbroiled flavor!!! The nice gentleman in line behind me said it's way better than El Pollo Loco and he's 100% right about that. I enjoyed the beans as well, these were not overly salty, I appreciated that. They go great with the chicken. I haven't gone shopping in this super market myself, I usually go to GW, but I finally satisfied my curiosity about the chicken I always see them grilling in the lot on the weekend. I needed a few staples on the way home and the closest market was this one. Its leans more to the side of a Mexican Market I'm assuming because of the abundance of Rosca de Reyes breads, their primarily Mexican bread in their bakery, and the dried chilis and tamale leaves section. She told me that I cut the line, even though I had briefly stepped aside and informed the customer behind me that I would just grab the item. I love this local supermarket. Everyone seems to forget about it...but it is conveniently located in a big plaza with lots of parking spaces and got most of the items you are looking for. Produce is fresh and they even have a fresh deli station with variety of food options, as well as a bakery that makes their own sweets, breads, and cakes. Sometimes you even catch them grilling up some meats in front of the market at the parking lot outside! I would love to see them to continue to open! read more

I was looking for something to grab on the way to an appointment. I usually shop at American bakeries or Asian bakeries, but, since relocating the area, I'm not familiar with what's available. I do remember having some Mexican pastries before. And I remember seeing an advertisement for this place. I went in around 8 o'clock this morning to see what kind of bakery selection they had. It was nice to see everything being made fresh. I grabbed Four of their assorted empanadas. All sweet and smelling delicious and warm. The woman was very kind to assist me since I do not speak Spanish. And I couldn't read some of the signs because of the language barrier however, she was really kind enough to try to teach me how to say it. I was able to get in and out with no issues. Overall, four pastries for under eight dollars is not bad. Especially the size is very generous. With this, I don't think I'm gonna need lunch! The only downside for me, is struggling to choose which one to try. Because they had such a wonderful assortment of flavors. read more

It's so funny. Super A is literally walking distance for me, but I rarely go. I always end up going somewhere west, north, and south as in driving (from home). I rarely east. Yeah I'm weird. LOL. Super A is always well stocked when I go. During the present COVID-19 social distancing, they'll wipe down the handle of your shopping cart before you go in. Yes, six feet apart is quite strict with all the arrows and Xs on the ground. Good for them! Meat department is well stocked with fresh meat, but not so much seafood (should you compare to Asian markets). Fruits and vegetables are fresh, especially the bananas when I bought them, and they also have a small baked goods area. Your everyday canned goods and liquids is not a problem as there are signs everywhere. Super A gets pretty crowded too in the afternoons. Obviously you can't always be six feet apart. The whole supermarket is clean and well lit with lights. Their prices are not the cheapest for your everyday needs. But do look for sales which can be good at times. This review is for their hot food/deli department. I usually like their options and prices. I will order trays of food ahead of time for parties and have never had issues...until now. On mother's day (5/10/25) I ordered 8 pounds of pollo asado. I was having a taco bar and when I ordered it the lady told me the chicken would be chopped up ready for tacos. This is the reason I ordered it. I wanted something I could simply drop in a crockpot and leave for guests to make their own tacos. I picked it up and took it home. My mistake was not checking it. Right before the party I took off the foil and saw that the chicken was cut into big quarter sized pieces, definitely not ready for tacos. I was so upset! Don't advertise one thing and sell another! Super A is one of the two small chain grocery stores in Temple City. Their prices are little more expensive than Valu Mart but you can get some good steals here. Usually really clean and well organized. They have really good chips and tortillas. The carne asada is really good, the marinade is spot on. Fried chicken here is AMAZING. I ordered it recently because the per piece price was the cheapest of all the grocery and fried chicken places in SGV. I did not expect the chicken to taste just as good as Churches. Everyone at my party raved about how good it was. The batter and seasoning were great. Chicken was juicy. Super crispy. The Spicy Fried Chicken was probably one of the best spicy chickens I have had. Many people may not know, but Super A was the first market around me to have senior hours, monitoring of how many people enter the store, and limiting the amount each customer can buy for certain items. They were ahead of the COVID-19 chaos! When all other markets had empty shelves, Super A was still pretty much fully stocked. For this, I commend them. I used to go to Walmart for my meats because they had everything and were cheap. But then COVID-19 happened and I didn't want to get trampled on, so I started going to Super A. Their ground beef is probably the best deal in town, not to mention the carne asada too. The produce is also not expensive and always pretty fresh. I always forget that they have a hot deli. The food smells wonderful but I go grocery shopping on a full stomach typically. One of these days, I'll remember to try it. I also love their fresh tortillas in the front. They come in all sizes and they're only a few bucks! It's enough for a full blast fiesta. The chips are packaged in huge bags and remind me of the ones served in restaurants.
