So long that I forgot I reviewed this on yelp at 11 years ago Interestingly, James T., the affable checker is still here. It looks older, maybe more experienced, but he's still a kind soul. Unfortunately, panda express has shuttered here. There's a little sign that says visit our store at the San Diego Mall. They didn't bother to publish... After you park half a mile away and then wander in, almost getting hit several times in the parking lot, and maybe run over by hoodlum teenagers riding motorbikes through the actual mall proper. But I guess that wasn't that much room on the sign. The rest of the store looks like one of the markets in Handmaid's Tale: bizarre, non-natural lighting, high prices, disguised as sale prices, and an eclectic mix of time honored brands, and "what the hell is this?" stuff you've never heard of. As we shook our heads in disgust at the panda express empty stall, we walked by the hot food deli, and the lady yelled at me. We only have chicken. I didn't ask. I didn't even suggest I wanted to check in. I didn't even think I wanted chicken, which eliminates the possibility that she's psychic. Anyway, we wandered out of the store with that same sinking feeling you got high school or college as you're walking away from someone that just dumped you. Ostensibly, you'll feel better later... 1/10/26 Just passing through today. Been here a few nights ago looking for bacon to make clam chowder (coz I learned that 99 Ranch didn't sell it). At first glance, it's really a beautiful looking supermarket. I didn't encounter a staff member as I was just looking to use their facilities while Hubby bought his Diet Coke. Unfortunately, the women's restroom (one stall) lock was broken but I really had to go. Luckily I just asked Hubby to guard the door while I did my business. Afterwards, I did another cursory look to the floral area & delicatessen, saw a Panda Express stall, a Starbucks inside and even quickly visited the fresh produce department. Their bakery section is quite large for a supermarket (I saw during my first visit). Maybe this store received a remodel but restrooms do look like they need some TLC, especially the LOCK on the women's). I would give it a 3.5. Maybe if I visit it again for some more bacon (lol) & further prolong my shopping experience, I might learn more things to love about it? read more

Von's Arcadia (nee Pavilions) is a great place to shop if you happen not to have any questions. The staff is generally not that friendly, and makes me understand you it was broken down from a Pavilions down to a Von's. It's a shame they don't treat customers the way Ralph's employees do! read more

I have been shopping at this store since it first opened, and I've never seen it in the condition it was in today. A few weeks ago, I called and spoke with the new store manager, Russ, to let him know that the floors were extremely dirty especially in the produce department, the self-checkout area, and the south entrance. He told me he was the new manager and asked me to give him a couple of weeks to get things under control. Unfortunately, very little has changed. With the exception of one early Monday morning visit, the floors have continued to be dirty, no normal traffic just uncleaned dirty. Today, the condition was so poor that it actually made me uncomfortable shopping there. I asked to speak with Russ. When he came to Customer Service, he didn't greet me or ask how he could help. Instead, he simply said what do you need. I reminded him of our previous conversation and explained that the store was still consistently dirty. His immediate response was, "So you're telling me I'm doing a bad job?" I replied that, as the store manager responsible for the overall condition of the store, I felt he he was doing a poor job. He then blamed it on the holiday weekend. I explained that I've shopped at this location through countless holiday weekends over the decades, and I have never seen the store this dirty. Additionally, the former store managers never let customers shuck corn in the store because it was a safety hazard with all the corn husks on the floor. Now there is a cardboard box overflowing with corn husk and the husks are all over the entire store floor, an accident waiting to happen. What disappointed me most wasn't just the condition of the store it was the lack of accountability and customer service. Rather than acknowledging the concern or assuring me it would be addressed, I was met with defensiveness and excuses. A grocery store should be clean, especially in areas where fresh food is sold. The consistently dirty floors at the entrances, in produce, self-checkout, and throughout much of the store create a poor shopping experience and leave a negative impression. I will be contacting corporate to share my concerns because this location has historically been well-managed, and I hope it can return to the standards customers have come to expect. You won't believe it. It took me more than 30 mins to get a bottle of pedialyte from aisle 7. First, I asked the pharmacy department, I think the calling button on the shelf is not working or out of battery. The staff at the flower department helped me called for help. After 5mins, I asked the Casher and he helped me called for help again. Still no one show up. At the end, I asked the customer service department, they called again. Finally someone came and helped me open the shelf. Woowowowow!!!!! What an experience!!! I think Vons really needs to do something to improve their customer service. I been to CVS and asked to get something from the locked shelf many times. They are very efficient, even when they are very busy. Hopefully the manager can read this review. . read more

Recently ordered a cake from this location and did not meet my expectations. I usually order from the montebello location but now live closer to this one. The printing on the edible image I sent in was black and white but it came out looking green. I also had inspiration for writing with piping instead was added in text on the edible image. I would have preferred to pick my own font and sizing they said they would call me once they received the inspiration through email but did not. Went on Sunday 3/15 at around 11:00 AM past the self checkout and the price listed after discount was higher than the price it was supposed to be on the shelf. I input my rewards information and the discount didn't apply. As the checkout area staff was passing by, I flagged down Karen for some help. It was my first and only time asking for help today and she told me extremely rudely that I need to be patient and can't I see that she has other things to do? Firstly, I waited patiently for the other customer to be helped and now the self checkout area is empty. Secondly, half the time the cashier staff are just standing around chatting. Thirdly, you can just tell me to wait a moment; there is no need to tell someone who was waiting patiently and wants to ask a question that they need to be more patient... but this is not odd treatment - Everytime I shop at this location I see Karen or another cashier staff being extremely rude. Came here randomly after grabbing boba at Yi Fang next door and was surprised how big it was! You immediately notice that they have a Panda Express inside which was crazy and really cool but it also had your usual Starbucks inside like a normal Vons. We checked out their alcohol section and they have a security guard watching over it. They didn't have a great selection so we just grabbed some cans of Arizona Tea and scratchers and were about to leave till we noticed something.. They have a Pokémon Center vending machine at this location! The only other one we've seen is in Burbank! We were very surprised to see it but they didn't have the latest set out yet. I really love this Vons location -- it's always clean, well-stocked, and the staff is generally very friendly. I appreciate how convenient it is and how smoothly most of my visits go. That said, I do want to share a concern I've noticed more than once. There is a cashier named James who is always friendly and kind, and I truly don't want to sound petty or unkind -- but I've observed a serious hygiene issue that needs to be addressed. His fingernails are often very long with lots of visible dirt underneath, and it appears he doesn't wash his hands regularly - if ever really. or at least not throughly. This makes me uncomfortable, especially in a grocery setting where cleanliness really matters. I hesitated to say anything because I don't want to cause trouble -- but I hope this can be passed along to management in a respectful way. I haven't been to a Vons in several years! I am truly impressed by how clean and well organized this market was. They also have a Panda Express inside the market. Everything was clearly marked and I totally missed the produce section because they were displayed in aisles unlike other supermarkets. Vons has put up new gates at the entrances, presumably to corral exiters through the checkout areas. While I was in line to check out, an old Asian gentleman, confused at the new set up, pushed his way through the gate and an alarm went off. The woman working the register grumbled that it happens several times a day even though there's a sign on the gate that says "Exit Only" and the man she was ringing up snarked that even kindergartners know how to read- to which the Vons employee said about the old Asian man, "Oh, he didn't go to kindergarten that's for sure." Witnessing this type of intolerance from a neighborhood market is extremely disappointing. Firstly we live in an area with a high elderly population, so a quick adjustment to how a supermarket is set up is a silly expectation- the old man could have been a white retired English professor and the signage could have been in blinking neon and there still would have been confusion because Vons has been set up a certain way for decades and now is different. But what this moment was more about was casual racism. Just an ignorant flippant remark from one witless person to another- and shamefully one of those people was an employee of Vons. My wife and I have been going to this store for a good 30 years. We are both 84 years old and since I walk with a cane I usually just find a seat up front and wait for her to checkout. They had one or two beat up wooden chairs to sit on. Sometimes no chairs so I had to find a stack of something to sit on. The last two times I noticed that they got rid of those ugly chairs and got one nice one. Both times we shopped there's this week I couldn't sit down because one of the employees (I don't know his name but the one with the ahh rather huge stomach) was sitting there apparently on break. This last time, today, he seemed to be sleeping. So I am wondering, can't employees (at least this guy) use some kind of break room instead of taking up a chair for customers? Be careful when you come here. The signs that they put up and advertise can be very misleading and confusing . As I was browsing the store, I walked to the frozen area where I saw some frozen salmon and fish fillets. Next to it had a sign that says $5 each when you purchase 4 or more; mix and match. No limit. Since it is so cheap and there was no regular price tag, I thought it will be a good idea to ask to make sure. So as I finished my shopping , I asked the cashier whether he can check the price for me to make sure. He just said I'm confused with an attitude and was irritated. I phoned customer service and they said that they had clipped all the coupons offered. They told me if I go to the store I could get what I had requested. I went to the store and was told that the offer had expired yesterday. Agent on the phone kept saying, "The person that you spoke to handled your concern." I told him that that was a lie. The person who handled my call lied to me to get me off the phone. She told me to go to the store and that I would get what I had wanted. Lie again. He then offered me a rain check. When I asked him if that would give me a discount at the register, he told me to pay for the product at the full price and that the rain check would be the difference. So the three star Yelp average for this location is actually shocking. It should be at least 4 stars and based on our overall experience of shopping here for the past several years, we can honestly give it a 5. Most of the complaints seem to be about customer service and the cleanliness of the bathrooms. In our experinece, the people who work here are generally pretty nice and helpful. It is true that the deli section people are not that attentive at times and can be slow to help you. Furthermore, it is true that the toilets are usually not very clean and not in the best working condition. All that being said, if you just come here to pull groceries off the shelves and realize that clean toilets at supermarkets is somewhat of a recent phenomenon (they were always just a step up from gas stations when we were growing up), then you will have a great shopping experience here. The checkers are usually pretty nice and helpful. The store is usually stocked so that you can find what you are looking for. The week day people who work in the sushi place are really nice. The man who works in the sushi place on weekends is not nice, but we are not sure if these are Von's employees, they are probably subcontractors. There is a Starbucks and a Panda inside this market. The Panda usually gets really busy at lunch and dinner and there is a line, but the people who work there are nice. As a total experience and given the Asian dominated culture in San Gabriel with primarily Asian markets, this is probably the best American market in the area. The other American markets are not located in easy to get places, have too much traffic, poor parking, or have really bad customers that make us want to shop elsewhere. That's why overall this market should get 4-5 stars average. read more

Haven't been to a Vons in a long time. Decided to go check out Vons after seeing a few deals online on their ad. This Vons was located on Naomi Ave in Arcadia and it next door to 99 Ranch and across from Aldi. That area is pretty much a good hub to do all your shopping at once. Vons has a pretty huge parking lot with plenty of spaces. It is also shared with other businesses such as Blaze Pizza and AU79. This Vons also allows you to order online for pick up as an added convenience. Shopping carts are now being sanitized by an employee at the door along with the limitation of the number of customers that can be inside the store. Practice social distancing guys! Upon entering Vons, it really gives me like a Whole Foods vibe, at least at this Vons. They have a bakery, hot foods and a mini olive bar. Everything is so neat and clean. Shelves are definitely fully stocked. However, all the items are placed in odd areas. Meaning refrigerated items are located several areas of the store instead of just one area. This layout makes you wander around the store; which I guess is their plan all along. I do have to warn you that the prices are not that competitive to other stores in the area. There's a Ralph's just a few miles away and an Aldi's across the street. The same exact brand and product may run $1 to $2 or more at Vons. If you are a budget shopper I recommend checking out their weekly ad first and downloading the app coupons. Definitely saves you a few cents to a few dollars on your shopping trip; otherwise, you'll be paying more. Of the few times that I went I found some pretty good deals on eggs for $0.69 a dozen and even pork ribs for $0.97 a pound. Perfect items for summer or home cooking. The hot foods area may tempt you as you walk around shopping. but I do not recommend getting rotisserie chicken. It's really dried out and the chickens are very small. I prefer the Costco ones over these. The breast meat on these chickens are so dry that it requires you to drink water to swallow the meat. Other than that, shopping here at Vons is no hassle. Make sure to create a Vons account and check out their weekly ads periodically. They also have self check out if you prefer no human interactions. read more

Due to COVID restrictions seemed like everyone was ordering takeout turkey meals...the restaurant I was going to order from sold out. Someone suggested the VONS deli so I gave it a try. There were actually quite a few people Thanksgiving morning. Despite having a few people in line the staff were still friendly at the deli and the checkout. Prices were reasonable and turned out tastes great! Got turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread deom the bakery and some creamed spinach from the fridge by the deli. No fuss...heat and serve. Tasted good! If in a bind for this coming Xmas or any future holidays this is not a bad alternative at all. read more

I don't know what's wrong with this Vons. It's not the supply chain issues I'm complaining about, they're just terrible with either storing their food properly, or getting rid of their bad produce. I've accidentally purchased expired goods and theres always some produce that's growing mold on it. Get. It. Together. This is not okay. THE YELP DETAILS ARE LYING! THERE IS NO BIKE PARKING! Been coming here since it was a Pavillions. I like coming here since it's clean, tidy, and the staff are efficient HOWEVER, there is no good parking. I don't mean for a car (parking lot's never more than half-full, anyways), but for bicycles. Some of your customers can't drive, can't afford to drive, are too young to drive, have a car in the shop, or don't drive for any number of reasons. The only dedicated bike parking in the ENTIRE block (not just this strip mall) is next to the LA Fitness across the parking lot. There is none in front of the Vons, which usually has at least one bike there at any time when the sun is up. The only places to lock up by the store are next to the fountain, where there is an empty spot (which leaves the handlebars stickning out perfect to hurt someone or scratch their car), the cart coralles (which often have home car blocked the sides), or the handrails of the two ramps at the front (which could mean blocking the handicap space if there's a wheelchair user who needs a van ramp, blocking the handrails for people of limited mobility). Can't even lock up using the handicap space signs because the sidewalk is so narrow. I'm still coming here for my shopping, but it's ridiculous that anyone who came by bike has to be an inconvenience to everyone else because this supermarket doesn't have parking facilities. Some of us may need easier access to the market. This is as ridiculous as if the Vons let EV drivers park ON the ramp. The Vons should tell the landlord to take out one or two parking spaces in the main parking area close to the store and put bike racks there. read more

Double check your receipts to make sure the items are charged correctly. After checking out, I saw many items didn't have mark down price as advertised on their weekly ads. I asked the cashier and was directed to customer service. The person at customer service started: "Did you scan your member card from the app? Many people come to do return because they didn't." Ok, so they assumed the customer was wrong #1. I've been using my phone number to check out at Vons, Albertsons, Pavilions, Safeway from Nor Cal to So Cal in the past 15 years without any problems. Why now you asked people to pull out the app? Are you trying to discriminate the ones who don't have a smart phone, can't use a smart phone, or don't download the app? Then the person scanned my digital card on the app, re-scanned all the items, but the price still didn't change. The person said: "did you clip the coupons?" I said "Yes". They asked: "Did you buy these items before?" I said: "No, this is my first shopping trip for this week. I only shop once a week." Then they said: "something is wrong with your account." So it looked like in their mind, the customer was wrong #2, #3, #4. Lol. The thing is, many stores would just adjust the price according to their ads, many coupons have unlimited use as well. But they made it hard for me so I decided to return the items and got my money back. I wasted 30 minutes there back and forth, in front of other customers, what an awful experience! Btw, I went to a different location, bought the same items, checked out with my phone number, and it worked like usual. So it's their particular store system that had problem, not the customers. Learn how to talk nicely to the customers, your job might be hard for you to handle but you get paid for it, the customers didn't. read more
