The food is not that great and I felt like the dishes can not compare to other Japanese place in the Hampton Roads area. I usually give 4 or 5 if the food is great and can care less about the service unless they are pug right rude. However in this case the 2 star is for the friendly service and nice clean dining area. They might be willing to customize the sushi but so do almost all sushi place, and the hibachi experience is ok but it does not make the other food choices any tastier. read more

HEED MY WORDS!!! The sushi will come with extra rice because they want you to be full on rice. I ordered a cold lychee sake but they served me a hot house sake and charged me for it. The sushi piece are as thin as your dollar bill. Some sushi roll pieces doesn't even have fish or any meat in it but just avocados and rice. I also felt sick an hour after eating the food. Will never going back to this place. Not even worth trying once. read more

Yuck. Had the sushi buffet at $16.99. Miso soup was luke warm, tonkatsu was chewy and greasy. The specialty roll that had tuna tasted like it was ground up with Panko as a filler. Overall it was underwhelming. The staff is the only saving grace that got them more than 1 star. Never again. read more

BOTH manager/waitress need to attend some sort of customer service class. Language is definitely a barrier with the waitresses, not to mention very unprofessional! Never coming back!! Tried this place for dinner recently, it wasn't as packed as I'd expect for a Friday night, we got the AYCE menu, All of the servers were extremely helpful and fast, our food was out within ten minutes after each round, our servers kept our drinks refilled and were always within earshot. I only gave this location 3 stars instead of 4 because the food was just alright. I would give this place another try though. read more

Unbelievable. Seriously, I've been to my fair share of mediocre restaurants. This one was the first one I have walked out of. My mild mannered husband was upset enough to get a menu out and proceed to ask where it said "all you can eat" meant scraps of fish. Look, I know the deal on all you can eat, but this was almost criminal to charge us for the embarrassment on the plate. When we asked the teenaged dead faced kid where the fish was his reply? "I'm just a busboy." And zero eye contact. The next person that came (not our server) told us outright that all you can eat didn't get what they normally prepare. That included wasabi and ginger too. None in the plate. And no apology. When I told them we would not be paying for this and to give us a check for our drinks, he told us No. I told him I would either pay for my drinks or I was going to leave. Ordered the Twin Tower roll which is shrimp tempura topped with crab salad and avocado and got a roll filled with mostly tempura batter! Could only taste greasy batter and mayo. Yuck. We came here for lunch for the AYCE buffet. I admit our party was pretty big - 3 adults and 8 kids ranging from 1-10. We got seated in the back at a long table. Our waiter took our orders and so started our dining experience.... The good things to order: - Clear soup was full of flavor! - Crab chips which are essentially a crab salad on top of pringles chip. Worth a try! - Seaweed salad was great minus the other random leaves that are served with it. Meh food to try - Shrimp tempura tasted like it sat in the fryer for too long - Steamed shumai was pitiful looking and quite small. Lacked any kind of flavor and had a rubbery texture to it. - Japanese fried rice just seemed like soy sauce got dumped on it to give it color from regular rice. What really kills this place is the service. Absolutely terrible! I want to think it had to do with our waiter because he was awful in getting us refills in drinks and our orders didn't seem to get put in right when we kept waiting for certain things to come out. From the look on his face, he seemed to be overwhelmed. It also took forever to clear out our empty plates. We had them stacked and I would still have to catch him just to get the plates out of the way. What was really the tipping point is that we waited a good 20-30 minutes just to get the check after having to ask for them. I don't really understand why it took so long as I watched the waiter input our checks into the system. It's AYCE buffet so it's a standard price for each person. The waiter had nerve to print out our checks and still make us wait to get them. I was about to grab them myself, but he caught us right when we were getting up. Honestly, there was nothing hospitable about our service and we stayed in the restaurant far longer than any of us planned as a result. With this place, this is just quantity without quality. My husband and I went here for our lunch anniversary and we loved it. Who could beat $11.95 all you can eat rolls and kitchen entrees. There were also three servers waiting on us, so our orders came fast. In the end, we didn't even know who to tip. Well, because of our great first visit, we decided to come back, but we brought our toddlers with us this time. They've always loved Japanese food, especially the appetizers and the deep fried rolls. But just after I gave my 2 year old a bite from my plate, here comes our waitress, telling us that we are gonna be charged $4.99 for sharing food. I was like, she's 2 years old. And the waitress said "yes, it's $4.99 since you're sharing with her and you're eating from the eat all you can menu". That just totally ruined our mood. I felt like they were just trying to get more money out of us or something. I've never seen a restaurant where they charge children under 3 years old. The price is ridiculous too! They're assuming that a 2 year old can eat almost HALF of what we would order?? In the end, we decided to make the best of the $30 we'll be paying, but of course, disaster happened. Our second orders took forever. Yes, it was getting pretty busy, but it was like they forgot about us completely. And when the chicken katsu came, it wasn't even hot! The rolls we ordered were also mostly RICE. Both the "A1 roll" my husband and I got only had salmon in half of the roll. So naturally we didn't eat the parts without the salmon and they were gonna charge us more for wasting food, but in our defense their food was not up to par. It was gonna be our new spot for Japanese food, but we are not planning to come back ever again. Maybe I shouldn't expect all restaurants to be family friendly, but they should do something with their food quality and customer service. read more

We absolutely loved the hibachi. But tonight we went in to try the all you can eat sushi menu. Expecting great things, we were extremely disappointed. Ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura. The batter seemed overly thick and was still a bit raw inside. Very bland and tasteless. Also ordered the volcano roll and the teriyaki steak. The volcano roll while it should be flash fried, was mushy and not at all good. I've never had one that was piping hot and burnt my tongue. The teriyaki steak was the tiniest portion I have ever seen and had an off taste. My son ordered the pork katsu, and it being fried was fried to leather and tasted of old oil. We barely ate anything. We paid and left hungry and disappointed. Our server seemed not to care much that we hardly ate anything and told him we were not happy with the food. While I would definitely recommend the hibachi side, I would not recommend the all you can eat menu. It is not worth the money. We will stick to Sushi King for that. read more

My friends and I wanted to try some place new and this isn't far from where we are. Waitresses switched out on us. We got the orders from the table behind us multiple times. They brought us wrong orders. I ordered a certain item on the menu and when it was brought over it was completely different than what was listed on the menu. When we asked about it she just said it was because we didn't have the updated version of the menu. When I asked her to take it away because it wasn't what I ordered she had an attitude and was being very obvious about it.
