My favorite Peruvian/Pollo a la brasa style restaurant in the area. It's effectively a carryout place, but there are seats and tables available if you want to sit down to watch the soccer games and telenovelas that are always on. All I've ever had here is the chicken, which is always incredibly moist. Any sort of grocery store rotisserie style chicken is almost inedible by comparison. My preference is dark meat and I will normally order a whole chicken's worth. Since they sell half and quarter chickens, they can give you four quarters of dark or white meat as your whole chicken. If you go a little bit later during the day (maybe 8:00pm or after) and ask for a whole chicken of dark meat (or "solo piernas" aka legs only) they'll often hook you up with 5 dark meat quarters for the price of 4. My favorite sides are the spinach and the plantains. I highly doubt the plantains are a traditional family recipe and am fairly confident they are coated in sugar or some kind of syrupy sweetner, but they are delicious. You'll be in and out in less than 5 minutes with a ton of food to boot. Tough to beat for a fast, filling, tasty and affordable meal. read more

Amazing for the price. The rotisserie chicken servings are amazing. 1/4th is plenty for one person and 1/2 can easily leave leftovers or feed two. It's great quality too. The plantains and chickpeas are my favorite sides, but the spinach and yucca are great as well. (The yucca can sometimes be pretty dry, but that's my only complaint.) It killed my experience- bought two chickens and sides. The chicken was not only dry but had a funny smell. No one say anything but I know they did not like it. It was embarrassing. I had to dispose of one whole chicken. The staff did not look too motivated and were more concern on watching a soccer game. A total disaster and it did not come cheap. Come on: super pollo is the cream of the crop in DC. You can get an entire chicken and two sizes which would feed 3 people for $20. And the chicken is very high quality meat, and extremely tasty. There is also a lot of variety here in terms of food the traditional Peruvian items along with Pakistani kabobs and a lot of different stuff like fried rice. Also its open pretty late on most nights. In a rush to pay I paid and realized I had been over charged by at least $10! I paid and didn't get a receipt and when I questioned the cashier she says sorry the printer it's not working! The mashed potatoes are plentiful enough for three meals, and the spicy salty spinach was surprising delicious...it doesn't look like any spinach I've ever had, and both types of beans were delicious. Super Pollo provides high quality Peruvian chicken. How so? Well their chicken is fairly sized and not skimpy. The flavor is evenly spiced. And with the various combo meals, you'll be able to feed a family of 3 to 4 for under $18. I always purchase the whole chicken with two sides meal. Typically Yucca is my preferred side as Super Pollo fries a nice crispy Peruvian Potato. But if available, I'll always order CHUFA (Peruvian Fried Rice). The service is fast as I'm in and out in 5 minutes. For all of these reasons, its no surprise Super Pollo lives up to its name! read more

It's good chicken. I can't deny them that. But, it's no El Pollo Rico just up the street. The flavor isn't as intense as I'd like it to be, but the chicken size is huge! For $5.50, I got a 1/4 white chicken with yuca fries and a spinach side. Pretty decent deal for the money I must say. Very similiar to the other Super Pollo except smaller but newer/cleaner. One dish I noticed they had (but didn't have at the other Super Pollo) is the spinach dish... its like an Indian Saag dish (pureed spinach). Alot of people seem to like the fried rice. read more

I'm a longtime customer, since about 2001. The chicken is great, as are most of the sides. However, the prices have gone up 40% in the past 10 years; now it's $7 for a quarter chicken and two sides. It used to be a great deal, but I think that increase is way out of line and the food is quite a bit overpriced now. For $7 I can get three tacos at District Taco, which is tastier and overall a more pleasant place to eat. I wish they would offer a veggie plate--e.g., beans and rice plus a side of spinach for maybe $5. As it is now, that would cost you as much as ordering a quareter-chicken with two sides. Another longtime annoyance: If you want plantains, it's not only another $1; you only get one side dish. Why?! Still, the food is good. read more

After hearing from my friends how great the chicken was my husband and I stopped by last night. We had checked out the menu online and was going for the family special. Online the family special #1 is $17.85. When I ordered it, the lady at the counter charged me $25. She said the prices were old. Either update the menu prices on your website or honor them when a customer shows them to you. The chicken was okay (room temperature). The entire meal was lukewarm at best which made the Yuca fries not great. The 3 milk cake was disgusting. I ended up paying more than $30 and the food was barely mediocre and the customer service (girl at the counter) was super rude. So I will not be going back again. read more

3.5 stars. I am only comparing this to EPR and C&J. The chicken here compared to EPR is "not as well fed". The chicken is smaller/less meat, and *slightly* less seasoned than EPR, in my opinion. I would therefore give them 3 stars. But why the extra half-star? (1) options of sides! fun! I like the white rice with the bean-gravy/sauce. Very good. Standard as far as Peruvian chicken joints go. Spinach side dish is better than usual and the chicken and sauces are all of good quality.

What's not to love about a $5 meal? And, as if that wasn't enough, the Peruvian chicken is seasoned to perfection. I'm remembering the smell as I write this review and now I think I'll be visiting Super Pollo this for dinner. The portions are more than generous and everything is delicious. Pretty good chicken here. I got the 1/4 chicken with spinach and lentils. The chicken was good, but nothing spectacular. The spinach has a great taste, although it was rather salty. This is my favorite restaurant in the DC metro area -and I've been here for 24 years. Delicious ketogenic-friendly food. My favorite ultra-low-carb meal: half-chicken, dark meat only, double side of spinach, double shredded jalapeno sauce, hold the crema (peruvian mayonaise). I do have to eat around ~2-3 potato hunks per order, nbd. Very affordable. Eat well for 6-10 bucks. I tip generously because I love the place and the people, but there isn't an expectation that one does -it's counter service. Generous portions, every time. Friendly service. Only complaint: televisions. They have one or two. The atmosphere would be nicer without them. Good luck finding quality pollo a la brasa without them. Saving grace: they're tuned to channels which are programmed in a language I don't speak, so they're easier to ignore than, say, CNN. And beer, not available here, would improve everything but the affordability and ketogenic-friendliness of the establishment. We went here around midnight because the hours said they were open till about 2am so when we pulled up the outside lights weren't on but all the staff was inside , a friend of mine walked up to the door to see if it was open & one of the employees opened & said take out only ( that's what we wanted) lol so we're like cool when we came in they locked the doors behind us , I'm not sure if it's a safety thing they keep doors locked n only let people in when they walk up but anyways we enter & the cook yells out we only have Yuka & rice & I really didn't want either Along with my chicken but at that point we were limited on options unless we went into the city because of how late it was . The staff was very friendly & the chicken was pretty darn good , my complaint was how old the yuka was it was warm but very hard you could tell it had been sitting & yuka is only good when it's fresh . Returning to DC for a week long course allowed me to revisit the stomping grounds of my youth... and it was awesome. Super Pollo was as good as I remember (THANK GOD!). I was with a bunch of friends and we ordered a whole chicken, fries, chicken fried rice, chick peas, and beans. Everything was just as I remembered. Moist, yummy goodness chicken with awesome spices. potato-y steak fries perfect for dipping in the yellow and green dips (which I always combine into a creamy spicy goodness). Chick peas were awesome as per usual, likely some sort of curried spice mix. Beans were beans, but I always liked them here.
