Super Pollo is very good! I gave it 4 stars based on taste only. The place looks a little bit nasty. I don't think I would actually eat in there. Not sure what it is, just can't put my finger on it. We usually stop there an pick up takeout. The food is excellent. The chicken is moist and flavorful. I like the variety of sides they have. Yuca here is the best. It's the biggest, and chunkiest. I have eaten at other Peruvian chickent places and they cut very small pieces of yuca and fry the hell out of it. That is not the case here. I also like the dipping sauces better here. Bf and I were looking for a quick to-go dinner in the area. He chose Super Pollo. I wanted McDonald's. One sniff of Super Pollo's chicken and I knew I had made the wrong choice. Bf less-than-willingly allowed me a bite. I was hooked. Fast forward to a couple of months later when the same scenario presented itself. This time, I didn't hesitate to choose Super Pollo. You can feed a family of 4 on $20 here. The chicken is so flavorful, moist and undeniably the tastiest chicken I have ever eaten. Their sides are good too. The mashed potatoes are buttery and the yuca root fries are crispy on the outside, dense on the inside. Add their mayo/mustard sauce and the notoriously spicy green sauce and your belly will be happy in no time. read more

Hands down my favorite Peruvian chicken place. The sides are amazing and you have a lot of choices. The chicken is addicting. I have been going there almost every week for the past six or seven months and the trend is not stopping at all. I've also introduced quite a few friends to the place and they all love it. Did I mention the price is reasonable? Yea, on the days you get off work hungry and are too tired to cook, you would think of this place! 5 stars for the food (it's REALLY good), 2 stars for their dishonest business tactics. I've noticed on several occasions that they charged me more than what's listed on the menu. Usually it's just a dollar or so (they charge extra for white meat but don't ask when you place your order) but one time I went in and was charged $5 (yes five dollars) too much. When I inquired about why my bill was so high the employee literally just walked away and started ignoring me. I spoke with several other employees in English and in Spanish with pretty much the same result. Finally after 5-10 minutes of arguing I was finally given a refund for the difference. Prices are reasonable for a whole meal. I've had better at other places though. It's possible they were just having an off day. Fries came out kind of cold like they had been sitting out all day. Rice wasn't completely cooked. Chicken was a little on the dry side. Wouldn't be my 1st choice but I'd be willing to give them another try on another day. The food was very good, as is expected from a Peruvian chicken joint. The sides were good as well. I can't give it a higher rating for two reasons. One, the parking is not very great. Two, the floor was not very clean. It was as if someone swept the floor into a pile, but left the pile there. Honestly, the second part of sweeping is just as important as the first, so you should probably at least finish. Hoping to see marked improvement next time. read more

Good chicken that probably beats most chicken places out there, specially the fast food chicken spots. My problem with this chicken is that it is seasoned on the surface. As soon as you remove the skin and some of the other immediate surface areas of the chicken, where the seasoning is quite visible, you have removed most of the flavor. Although the chicken tastes good overall, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not seasoned overnight. The main advantage this place has over its competitors is the fact that it has an abundance of selection when it comes to side orders. You can get beans, yucca, plantains, chick peas and a bunch go other things I have yet to try. The sides are generally good although at times we have gotten some stale yucca. Also, if you don't feel like chicken tonight, you can order traditional Latin meals like fried snapper or Lomo Saltado, different types of sandwiches and several different items. The prices are affordable. The staff is nice and friendly and if you engage them with kindness, they will be generous with the side portions. The place is nothing special, but it's mostly clean and family friendly. When the hot wife is tired, this is our go to spot to get us our "Latin meal" fix in a hurry while not breaking the bank. My family runs in for takeout from here all the time, especially after sports events when other restaurants are already closed. We LOVE their chicken, fried yuca, plantains, and rice with black beans. The staff is very friendly, but we speak in Spanish... The best part is two of us have severe gluten intolerance, and one has dairy intolerance, and none of the above items have ever made us sick. It's good. Really good. I drove by Super Pollo today and had a feeling that it was one of "those places." By that, I mean it is one of those local favorites that everybody raves about. It did not dissapoint. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was right. The place oozed with the savory smell of roasting chicken. It's like walking into mom's kitchen when she has a chicken roasting in the oven. Except on crack cocaine mixed with steroids. I had half a chicken with plantains and veggies (a sop to my healthier side) to go. It smelled so wonderful that I had to put the whole package in my trunk whilst driving back, or else I would go mad for the rest of the week driving to work while smelling the savory, slightly spicy goodness sticking to the interior of my car. I got home, plopped the styrofoam takeout container on my table, and dug in. With my hands. I have silverware, mind you, but it is all the way across the kicthen and I wasn't in the mood to wait. The chicken did not dissapoint- juicy and fragrant with herbs. I ripped a drumstick off and devoured it in three voracious bites. The rest of the chicken went quickly, mixed with plantains, the veggies long forgotten. The sweetness of the plantains goes just right with the chicken. For about $9, I was stuffed. Like a turkey. I can't believe that I've not reviewed this restaurant until now. It's super good. I'm a vegetarian, so I just get their sides. They're super good. I assume that their chicken is good to, which makes sense because it is a chicken place. I especially love there plantains. There a little bit to buttery and fatty for my standards, but I still get them. I love their spinach because it has pieces of potatoes in it. Their white rice is what you can expect, good. If you love spicy things, you have to try their green sauce. It's super spicy. It's meant to be put on your chicken, but I mix it in with the black beans and/or chickpeas. Also, super good. They have salmon too. That's great too. It's enough for two people to share. I would recommend that when you try this you pick it up and eat it at home because inside the restaurant, they have their TV's on super loud. read more

I just had this for the first time tonight. I tried to keep an open mind despite my devotion to El Pollo Rico (EPR) and was looking forward to trying the vaunted sides that friends say make it better than EPR. What a letdown. The chicken, clearly the most important element, was dry and over-salted. The flavor was passable and accompanied by surprisingly crispy skin, but there's no excuse for drying out dark meat. The sides were similarly disappointing. I had the yucca and chickpeas. The chickpeas were way under-seasoned and the fried yucca was dry as hell. I'd take the Ravi Kabob chickpeas and the El Pollo Rico steak fries over these sides any day. The yellow sauce was less than addiction inducing and the green sauce was spicy but didn't have anything in terms of flavor going on. Compare that to EPR, where every bite of chicken with sauce is like the exact opposite of the holocaust happening in your mouth. Here's the caveat, and the reason I'll try it one more time. I got it at 11 pm and nothing was fresh. Apparently they just started staying open until 1 this week, according to the guy behind the counter. They are also offering delivery until 10, but it sounded like he made up the time on the spot and would consider delivering later. Still, if you're open for business you should take the care to serve quality food. I've never had a bad piece of chicken at EPR - they're still chopping up chicken fresh from the spit even right before closing time. There's a really good reason EPR inspires rabid devotion and even got Anthony Bourdain to visit just from locals raving about it, and there seems to be a really good reason Super Pollo does not get the same attention. read more

Raw chicken sold. I thought it was me until I showed my guest and he said that it wasn't cooked. I attempted to chew through it and it wasn't breaking apart as it should've. When we first entered the customer service was horrible. It was almost like they didn't want to serve us and I wanted to say something but didn't want them to spit in my food. We only stayed there because we didn't want McDonalds and it was the only place open that had real food. By the time we got to our location something spilt all over the bag. I looooooooved the Randolph Street Super Pollo, and I looove the new Alexandria one, but this one is different. The flavor is slightly off from the original, and everyone who worked there seemed to glare at us for no apparent reason. The chicken sub, my go-to is great, though it was cooked differently here. Normally, it's chunks of deboned chicken on fresh lettuce, tomatoes and covered in melted cheese. It's greasy (the bun soaks through pretty quickly - it's nearly impossible to take this home to eat), but served with their mustard/mayo on the side, it's utterly orgasmic. It's made a little differently here - with sauteed green peppers, but it's still good. I'm going to stick to the sister restaurant from here out, the one on Lincolnia Rd, which tastes like the mother location which is sadly no more. read more

Best Pollo a la Brasa in Arlington. This places beats Pollo Rico with the flavor and Crisp & Juicy with the price. What drives me insane each time I go in there is the huge selection of sides to choose from. Should I go with white rice or the peruvian Chau la Fan? Sometimes my debate between yuca and fries would leave me in contemplation for what seems like a lifetime. Then they have plantains, chick peas, mash potatoes, mixed salad... Super Pollo is GOOD! They use a different spice than Pollo Rico that gives their chicken a distinct flavor. They also have tons of really nice side dishes. The skin is not crispy but it is covered in amazing spices. I usually try not to eat all the skin but i fail most of the time. The minced jalapeno sauce is crazy good too. I like mixing the yellow and the green together. By far, some of the best chicken in the area. read more

Just sort of an update - i still think the chicken at pollo rico is juicer (i found a few dry spots and overcooked spots in mine at super pollo). The sides, IMHO are EXCELLENT here. Pollo rico pales in comparison. Garbanzo beans are MUST - they are ridiculously good, especially slather them on your fries or yucca (which is also an awesome difference from pollo rico), and you are in heaven. Sad though, we tried to order plantains on a Sat lunch time, and they said they weren't ripe enough...so we didn't get to see if it was still just as greasy as the old location...or more LEGIT. I think I gave 2 stars to the original location because I was really not impressed. I think the new one was better for me and I will give it 3.5 stars. I think think the Peruvian chicken is overrated compared to normal rotisserie chicken you can find in California. I think however that the flavors while different are still good in their own way, even if the meat is a little greasy. For sides I went with the fried rice and the beans. I actually thought the beans were pretty good especially when stirred in with the rice. The rice was a unique flavor. Not amazing but because it was interesting it was a nice side dish that went well with the chicken itself. Overall, I think that I will probably periodically go to the location if i'm with a friend looking for a quick meal, or if i just want some chicken but don't feel like making it myself. read more

When I walked in and inspected the menu, I was contemplating ordering the whole chicken meal to create a lunch/dinner combo for myself. Not wanting to commit myself too deeply to a restaurant I had just met, I ordered the half-chicken with baked spinach and mashed potatoes (the re-fried beans tempted me, but who can resist the siren song of mashed potatoes and gravy? Who?). The chicken was grilled superbly. The skin was well done but not dried out, the meat was flaky and moist. It felt like they had injected air into the bird after it was done cooking. It was the antithesis of that compact, greasy chain (I'm lookin' at you Colonel S.). The sides were piled on - three generous scoops of both veggie and tuber. So generous, in fact, that I had trouble finishing the entire meal. I mean, I did finish. But I tacked an extra mile on to my run the next day. Service moves pretty quickly, there's ample parking surrounding the building, and if you slip out around McDonald's you can catch the traffic light for easy exit either East or West on Wilson. With an accessible location, and a great meal, Super Pollo's destined to work itself into my "I was at work for *how* many hours today?" takeout dinner rotation. read more

Its a spicy Peruvian chicken with sides consisting of beans, fried rice, corn, a heavy spinach potato mixture, and a plantains and such. One restaurant comes to mind for Peruvian chicken: Super Pollo. This place is quick, delicious, and cheap. Both the white and dark meats are juicy and tender. They have in-house made sauce (green and white). The green one is perfectly spicy and the white is creamy and sweet to help balance out the spiciness. The sides are great - i always get either the rice and beans, fried yuccas, and/or plantains. I would highly recommend this place if your looking for a casual dining option that's filling and cheap. read more

Absolutely love this place. Super Pollo is my go-to spot for Peruvian chicken in Arlington. I always get the quarter chicken, white meat, to go and have never been disappointed. Besides getting plenty of chicken every time, they really pile on the sides. I go for the white rice (because I like to eat it with the chicken and sauces all together) and the plantains. There's an extra charge for plantains, but it's definitely worth it - they are so delicious! My friends swear by the chick peas and the potato salad, too. Bottom line is you get a ton of delicious food for a really reasonable price. I could eat here way more often than is socially acceptable. Definitely recommend! read more

This review is being written as a result of a frustrating situation. Before I get to that let me get to what most of us read these reviews for. The food here is fantastic. I have been eating at Super Pollo since before they moved away from across the street from the Ballston Mall. The food has always been great, the lines move quickly, and the staff is always friendly. Highly recommend this spot if you like Peruvian chicken. As for my frustration; I am sure the cashier was equally as frustrated as I was. She was very accommodating and tried to understand what I was asking. The problem is the lack of understanding how Samsung Pay works. First off it is a little different from Google Pay, Chase Pay, and Apple pay in that it not only uses NFC (Near Field Communication), but it also uses MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission). That means in almost all cases works on magnetic card readers. The problem that most cashiers have is that they don't understand that once the card is presented they must key the amount and complete the transaction. I won't go through unless the complete the process. Today I put my card next to the reader the display came up for the amount to be keyed and the cashier kept cancelling the transaction. If anyone at this location is reading this I would urge you to watch the following video and share with your cashiers on how to use Samsung Pay. I've been going to Super Pollo for about 8 years now, and honestly believe it's the best pollo a la brasa/peruvian chicken in the DC area. Great tender chicken and a HUGE selection of sides (I go with the yuca and fries because I'm a sucker for the starch) and a cheerful atmosphere with TV's either showing a soccer match or Latin American music videos. My favorite Peruvian/Pollo a la brasa style restaurant in the area. It's effectively a carryout place, but there are seats and tables available if you want to sit down to watch the soccer games and telenovelas that are always on. All I've ever had here is the chicken, which is always incredibly moist. Any sort of grocery store rotisserie style chicken is almost inedible by comparison. My preference is dark meat and I will normally order a whole chicken's worth. Since they sell half and quarter chickens, they can give you four quarters of dark or white meat as your whole chicken. If you go a little bit later during the day (maybe 8:00pm or after) and ask for a whole chicken of dark meat (or "solo piernas" aka legs only) they'll often hook you up with 5 dark meat quarters for the price of 4. My favorite sides are the spinach and the plantains. I highly doubt the plantains are a traditional family recipe and am fairly confident they are coated in sugar or some kind of syrupy sweetner, but they are delicious. You'll be in and out in less than 5 minutes with a ton of food to boot. Tough to beat for a fast, filling, tasty and affordable meal. read more
