I fucking love this place. Nobody in town has better breakfast burritos than Super Pollo

I'm here so often I should probably start paying rent! Joking aside, I love this place. Everything I've had is delicious. If you're getting the chicken plate, get the garlic butter sauce. It's amazing. This place isn't "cheap Mexican food" but it's completely worth it. Everything is fresh and you can definitely tell. Some of my favorites: 1) chicken plates. Chicken is juicy and tender. Rice and beans are really good too. Comes with warm yummy tortillas. Really can't go wrong. 2) the chicken burrito. It's so good! It comes with beans, chicken, guacamole, pico de gallo and lettuce. The salsa they serve on the side is so good. Probably the best salsa I've ever had. Perfectly spicy without being overwhelming. However, you have to eat it immediately. It does not hold and it will get soggy really quickly! 3) the chicken taquitos. Serves with green salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Really can't go wrong. Perfectly crunchy and as usual, very fresh tasting. I've never tried the beef here. I'm not really sure why anybody would gravitate towards beef when the place is literally called "super chicken"... Obviously chicken is their specialty people. There's one particular girl who's always working the front. She's always really sweet and has a warm welcoming smile. Super Pollo is the epitome of an authentic Mexican hole in the wall! It's located on a side street right near Newport Blvd. and 17th Street and can be easily spotted from the main drag. The place has a decent sized menu with tacos, nachos, burritos and breakfast but most of the time I just opt for the chicken (there's four seasonings to choose from). More often than not the chicken is moist and flavorful but there are times it's a tad dry. The chicken comes with corn or flour tortillas and salsas, the pico de gallo being spicy and delicious! To me this place is essentially a local and much better version of an El Pollo Loco or Pollo Tropical. Limited seating inside and out. Fast and friendly service. This institution is in my opinion the best Mexican chicken joint. It mocks Loco, and Charo. They use adult chickens not those chicks they use at Loco. Rice is fresh and moist. Beans done just right and fresh tortillas they don't skimp on. Salsa hits just right oh and don't forget incredible fresh pico. read more

Hidden in the backstreets of Costa Mesa is the greatest chicken you'll ever have (seriously... it really might be!) Ever since I discovered this gem, I have frequented on a weekly basis. Hello Yelpers, If you guys are hesitant to try Super Pollo then I have some fantastic news for you , DON'T BE!!! They're chicken was extremely juicy and tasty. I ordered the Half Chicken Combo with the butter garlic.. and it was superb. The chicken breast was so juicy, the wings were juicy and crunchy, the thigh was amazing, the drumstick was delicious. Not to mention the pick de Gallo and the red salsa were mesmerizing. Last but not least the rice and refried beans were good not too much flavor but blends in with the chicken extremely well. I have been eating here since I was a kid in the Eighties and this is still, by far, the best grilled chicken I have ever had. The food has been exactly the same high quality consistency since day one and several hundred meals later, it tastes like the first time I experienced my favorite chicken. ( I have been trying to recreate it at home but, it never turns out as good. I always pick the owners brain for tips and he insists the key is to use the best quality and freshest ingredients.) Similar to Juan Pollo or El Pollo Loco but, way better chicken and their own garlic-butter, lemon sauce takes it over the top. Either get a half or whole chicken and make your own tacos or the burrito is epic (ask for extra garlic butter!). I have never tried the asada as, the chicken is just to good to miss. They are now serving breakfast and wouldn't you know it, the chorizo is the best I have ever tasted and I am a chorizo aficionado. I have missed the breakfast cutoff a few times and go with the chicken burrito with extra garlic sauce and have never been disappointed. Great, now I'm hungry for Super Pollo.... read more

Hands down the best chicken around!! My absolute favorite meal every time is the half a chicken combo with lemon, garlic and butter. I am obsessed with rotisserie or flame grilled chicken and I haven't found a better place in all of OC. If you love chicken and like Mexican food you will not be disappointed. The spicy salsa is amazing as well. It is a family owned and run business and everyone is extremely friendly who works there. Don't go here if you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask. I called my order in for pick up, like I normally do. When I walked in I was greeted with dirty looks, as well as rudely instructed to "put a mask on". I politely informed the young lady that I am unable to wear due to medical condition. She walked away without a word then had another woman (I'm assuming her lead) to come inform me of the same to which I once again repeated same response. I was told that I should have called in my order. Funny thing is, I DID call in my order. I was not even asked this in the first place; the lack of professionalism along with rude treatment is enough for me to never come back. What happened to treating people with respect, especially ones who are spending money at your business? Human compassion? Nah, it's "COVID" times, so treat people like garbage if they don't do as they're told, even if it adversely affects their health. Look down upon people with your silly judgement? The thing to get is the whole or partial chicken, but the burritos and nachos are also excellent. If you've ever been to El Pollo Loco, Super Pollo is the same concept but better. Usually I prefer red meat when it comes to eating Mexican food but the chicken based dishes you'll find here are far better than anything you can get at the Del Taco across the street. I always get the super chicken nachos when I come here and it's quickly become my guilty pleasure. It's stacked with moist chicken, cheese, refried pinto beans, and sour cream on a fresh bed of crunchy tortilla chips. The biggest downside to this place is that they are quite slow at preparing the food compared to most other Mexican taquerias. I often wait 20-30 minutes for my food even if there's only a few orders being made before mine. I definitely suggest calling in your order, which is what most of the regulars here seem to do as the cashiers are constantly picking up the phone. read more

My office loves this place they are always so accommodating to our last min. large orders from 50 to 100 people. Today Super Pollo went above and beyond for our 50 person order in less than 24 hr notice. The restaurant also per our request boxed all meals vs. a large catering order so we could feed the office safer vs large catered orders during these Covid times. The restaurant staff was super friendly and helpful loading our order into the car with tender loving care. The food did not disappoint our office staff and everyone really enjoyed their fresh tasty garlic chicken meals with a side of beans and rice. Was not excited at the start of the experience considering I called my order in and the lady over the phone told me 10 minutes. It was over DOUBLE that for me to receive my order. But the food was delicious and I have gone back numerous times since. I usually get the half order chicken with the lemon garlic seasoning and I have also got the super quesadilla and both are fresh and delicious. It's the best local mex chicken joint in town. If chicken isn't interesting, they have all of the classic southern californian mexican classics. I'm partial to the chicken nachos, strongly suggest a try! The portions are quite big so come hungry. Just be aware sometimes a long wait so call in to order in advance. read more
