But... after 1 1/4 hours of ordering, ( and calling the truck to find out WTF was going on...) the food arrived totally cold. My big beef was that the woman on the call lied to me 3 times about the arrival time of the delivery. And curiously, when something had gone away, her English was suddenly not good. What gives? So I was brave and decided to give the notorious taco truck a try. I dithered and hemmed and hawed and finally the guy offered to make me something that was not on the menu (cesina) which I took as a very nice gesture. Have I had better cesina? Yes. But the entertainment of watching six people in the truck stuffing themselves gleefully with pork and grooving to norteno music whilst sipping horchata was quite special indeed. So I live across the street from this famed truck, and if I want to make myself hungry at night, all I have to do is open my window and let the aromas waft in. I was quite intimidated my first visit because not only did I not know what everything was on the menu, but I felt stupid ordering in English. BUT, once I got over myself after a few visits, I now have a few favorite standbys, and always have a way to satiate those late night cravings. A hole in the wall without the hole or wall, this truck serves up Mexican fare to go that is ridiculously cheap and tasty. Though I've heard that white people (half of me) might not care for the bones and stuff that is often part of the meat experience, my beef taco was delightfully free of cartilage. The potato flautas I had were a bit dry and underwhelming, but I'm sufficiently intrigued to explore the rest of the menu. This place is mediocre at best. I moved here from Southern Cali, and trust me, the farther away from Mexico, the worse the food is. This place is not worth the wait or the money. At the most, it is OK for satisfying a craving for a decent Mex burrito. Also, I have NEVER been to a Mexican place that you have to pay for extra salsa. What a joke! Take a cue from the Asian places and be generous on the sauce, don't lose your fan base, especially the locals. "Super" is not the word I would use to describe this place. First, let me qualify that I am not afraid of eating food off a truck, and I really wanted to love this place - it's close and I'd heard great things. Unfortunately, after trying the place two times, I can officially say I'm not going back for tacos. I've now tried the steak (flavorless even with lots of sauce) and the pork (full of nasty, super-fatty pig parts) and both were disappointing. This place is a staple for me. It's on my way to every where... when it is there. The hours are sort of non standard I find but they are always nice and I like the crowd. You know it's good If no one speaks english (I try not to when I order there). Tacos al pastor, Chorizo, Chivo, Lengua are probably my favorites and it's of course very very cheap. The Tortillas are kinda greasy but I guess that is authentic. I love their salsa Verde with tomatillos. I usually save some to have on other stuff. read more

Why can't there be someplace like this on the east side? The Super Taco Truck serves up yummy, cheap tacos and bunch of other things like tamales, tortas, quesadillas, gorditas, etc, that I've been meaning to try, but I always end up eating the tacos. They've upgraded their truck and it's now winterized a bit more for the customers. Instead of just plastic sheeting, they have a more heavy duty structure to block out the wind and cold. It didn't stop my 2nd taco from getting cold before I ate it, but at least it didn't get blown away. read more

For less than $10, you can a wide variety of Mexican food items, from tacos to tortas, with your choice of different meats. I loved visiting the truck and now I love visiting the restaurant on west end and 96th. I typically get the tacos al pastor or carnitas. Very excited for them as they expand! Super Tacos is a fun, new experience my close circle decided to try, and it definitely proved to be a good time, but I don't think it was sent from heaven like some of the other reviewers. I absolutely love the large menu on a street truck, that is huge in my book. Also on the list of boner-inducing qualities is price - and when tacos are only two dollars, I'm bound to enjoy the moment. I am a frequent visitor to the Super Tacos truck. They're quick and cheap and always right there outside the subway station on my way home. I haven't tried the daily specials yet (they need more appetizing photos), but the tacos, quesadillas, sopes, etc. are excellent and a fine addition to the halal dominated street food scene of New York (especially uptown). The mix-and-match possibilities are pretty much endless, since you can put whatever meat you want into anything in any combination. First, you have to learn what cesina, al pastor, etc. are. Immediately after seeing tacos de chivo (goat) on the menu-- an order ensued... Only complaint is I wish they had sliced radish to bring back fond memories of Tijuana street side tacos when I was a kid, but the meat is cooked perfectly tender and the variety of sauces make it a great option for $3/taco. Also tongue and ear tacos round off the list of random, delicious animal parts. I had their Pozole which was had good flavor, but hardly any substance... yes, I did have my beloved hominy and plenty of it, but no meat? The aguas frescas are also pretty good... but I usually run into Gristeades and grab a beer-- the guys will provide a cup for you to conceal the crime. read more

This place used to be my favorite - my little taqueria mistress when I'm away from California. Alas, the five star experience is no more. They've raised the prices 50% in the past two years and the quality has gone down. The tortas used to be overloaded with avocado, meat, and cheese. Nowadays, it's a dollar more for no avocado and a lot less meat - you can tell because when you take the first couple bites, the only thing you get is bread. The food here is cheap and pretty decent. I had the chicken and tripe tacos the last time that I came here and I thought they were good for the price. The chicken was $2 and tripe was $3. The tripe was good but a bit chewy and not as tender as I would have liked. The chicken was good but nothing too special. Overall, a good, cheap place to eat. read more

Best Tacos in NYC and super cheap. Several people working in a silver truck right off 96th & broadway who serve up the best tacos, enchilada's, quesdilla's - you name it and they make it. It is well worth the long line. No seating, but it's all good b/c you can go casual and just do curb side seating literally and no one will bother one. I thought I was going to be in love with Super Tacos but I'm just in like with them. I guess it's the closest you can get to real Mexican street food outside of Mexico and SoCal but still not worthy of a 4 or 5 star review for me. I got chorizo and al pastor tacos. They were both ok. I'm just a big fan of the veggies that you can put on top of the tacos but they weren't fresh here. I also had a bite of a flauta which wasn't good. I absolutely love this place and discovered it when I was lucky enough to sublet from a couple who had a view of the truck from their balcony. I've had so many things from here and good experiences with almost all of them. Admittedly, I haven't had the daily specials though. My taco, burrito, torta, cemita, nacho, sopes, gordita, everything else craving always speaks before my mind can register the specials. I'm always surprised by how long the wait is for food, even when there are not many customers in line. It's probably all the delivery orders they get. My favorite meats are chorizo and lengua. I think I've tried to order chicharron numerous times and they're always out; my suspicion is that they don't even serve it anymore but never changed the menu. Cesina was not to my liking, and I haven't given it another try because I haven't had a good cesina experience from other places either. Nachos are a FILLING, but pricey at $10 (the most expensive item on the non-special list, I think). Burritos are always a good bet. They've changed how they make them for a more eater friendly experience. Previously they topped it with crema and put it in a Styrofoam container with shredded lettuce and tomato. Now they wrap everything up inside and encase it in foil instead. I kind of liked the old way more but it required fork/knife to consume. During the winter, their hot drinks instantly warm you up. In fact they burn so much you can't even drink it until a proper cool down period. They have some sort of strawberry drink I haven't tried, but I can recommend the leche con arroz. The truck is now parked on Amsterdam at 97th and they've removed much of their menu from the outside of the truck. I suspect they were getting city violations for operating. My heart dropped when I thought they were gone permanently, so thankfully they're still operating incognito. read more

Meh is how I would describe this taco truck. I came a split a veggie burrito and plate of veggie tacos. The veggie burrito came out first, and I was pretty disappointed. There weren't many veggies, mostly bland rice and beans. Kinda reminded me of a burrito I'd get from taco bell, but not as good tasting. Then, after quite a long wait, the lady handed us one veggie taco... even though it should have been 3. We didn't bother correcting it since we didn't want to wait for the other 2 taco to be made. I tried the flautas and they were alriight. Crispy, stuffed with chicken and topped with lettuce and creamy sour cream; edible and cheap but if you're looking for real 'Mexican' food, don't go here. Look, the food comes from a truck. You're not going to be getting world class Mexican food here. However, it's quick, cheap and pretty tasty overall. While I wish they would just make me a big burrito sometimes, but the more authentic mexican dishes they offer are a nice change from the american taco bell type mexican I usually get. I haven't been here in awhile, but I should definitely try it again. I also hear the Tortas are awesome, but the tacos are indeed pretty super. read more
