Walked in after work and the front was quiet but the kitchen sounded busy. Greeted by an older gentleman and my order was taken quickly. Paid cash to avoid the CC machine fee. Waited about 15min and my food was ready. Got home and went to town! The rice was well seasoned and soft. The chicken used in the enchiladas was a mix of white and dark meat that made a good mix. The enchiladas had the sauce covering the but not drowning which was great because the flavor was on point even though it was spicy! The beans were served on the side which was a plus for me because leftovers made for a pretty awesome bean and cheese burrito the next day. One complaint was the huge slices of onion but that's just a personal preference. I chopped those bad boys down and sprinkled it on my food and it was great! I have been coming to this restaurant for years now and the food is always on point. Not only is the service superb you cannot beat the price of the drinks or food. Stopped by on a Monday afternoon, there was only one patron seated in the restaurant. I was ordering take out and I was standing there for a few minutes before the waitress/host/cashier asked me what I wanted. She seemed super annoyed to answer every and any question about a dish on the menu. The food was upon entering the establishment I was hopeful for great food as it looked authentic. Stable, staple of Mexican food in the area that has withstood the test of time and quality so far. Their aguas frescas do not disappoint and neither does the rest of their fare ranging from tacos to enchiladas, quesadillas and burritos. They usually offer special plates that show a good sample of their delicious food. While it may not be exactly what you would find on the streets of Mexico, you can surely order a dish and receive exactly what you expect. Considering that an unlucky opposite corner of the same block has not been able to sustain many iterations of Mexican restaurants, I'd say Noche Mexicana reigns supreme. During COVID-19, they've adapted a solid outdoor eating area so that the indoor is purely for service. While eating outdoors in this corner isn't appealing (construction and lack of view), at least the option exists. Grab your food to go and enjoy! read more

Had a quick dinner here before heading to a movie. My guest and I both had two soft tacos with shredded pork, with a shared side of rice, two soft drinks and chips/salsa to start. Neither of us love really hot sauce and are used to having a mild red salsa with chips so we asked for an alternative to the medium heat green salsa they provided. They brought a red salsa, but it was basically just as spicy as the first one. At least they tried! The chips were warm and crunchy in the best way, must have been homemade. The tacos were honestly huge, usually what I want but I ended up being so full at the end of this meal I wasn't sure I'd make it to the movie! Both tacos care with two white corn tortillas, plenty of meat and shredded lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. I would order them again for sure. Loved the large portions here and everything was fresh. Our order was only $30 total, so it was a bargain compared to some restaurants in the area. There are a few lackluster Mexican restaurants on the Upper West Side, but I don't consider this place one of them. read more

Our service was so good, the food was even better very casual and family style. Very reasonable prices, especially during HappyHour 3-7pm with $9 Quesadillas and $4.50 beers! Authentic Mexican food that could hold it's own with those in San Diego (I lived there for 22yrs, and of course have been to Mexico many times). I'm totally over the moon about this place, for many reasons. We happened upon it last night after walking out of a different Mexican restaurant nearby. What an amazing find. It was great food, great service, reasonable prices considering it's on the UWS and they did something few other places would have done, which scored big points. When we sat down and were looking at our menu a homeless gentleman came by asking for something to eat. We run a non profit for the homeless, and it's part of who we are. So, we ordered him dinner to go. The restaurant wasn't busy. We were the only table. (They do a lot of take out.) Anyway, as they weren't busy, they generously allowed the man to sit at a table and eat dinner like a human being and treated him with the same kindness and dignity we all want and expect. That not only showed the character of our waitress, but it doubled her tip! Now, back to the other important part: The food. De-lic-ious. Guacamole? Was better than 75% of the table side guac we've had at much fancier restaurants. I had the steak fajitas. So good. Cooked perfectly. Large(!!) portion. Rice, beans, all the fixings. My husband had three kinds of tacos. And, he's pretty picky. Okay, he's very picky about his food, especially Mexican and especially tacos. The el pastor was gone in no time. As were the shrimp and the other. And the service was friendly, attentive and pretty awesome. They also adhere to all the COVID cleaning requirements, along with wrapped utensils and paper menus. Let start with the positives. The food at this place comes in good portions and is delicious. I ate all of mine and genuinely enjoyed every bite. The frozen margaritas are also delicious. What was lacking was everything else. We literally had to find our waitress whenever we wanted anything because she never came to check on us. The Aguas Frescas are out of this world! I get the large Horchata and Jamaica. I can't choose a favorite because they are so different and are equally delicious. The ham torta comes with yummy fries and is great. The tamales are amazing - again can't seem to choose one over the other between red and green. The egg dishes - breakfast all day - are good but very spicy (at least to me). Grateful for Noche Mexicana II. Food is consistently good, comes warm, orders are accurate, delivery quick. I'm shocked that I've never been here before. The outside is completely underrated compared to their affordable and extensive menu of tons of Mexican dishes. They give nachos and salsa while you wait, which are refillable for free. We ordered the grilled chicken soft tacos and the shrimp soft tacos, which were sooo good. It wasn't super heavy either, so I didn't feel like I was eating a ton. And it was really fresh too. Also, I can't recommend enough their margarita on the rocks. It's sooo delicious, and it's actually pretty strong without an overwhelming alcohol taste. I actually only had one with three tacos and a ton of nachos and still felt woozy leaving. I wish I could get margaritas here all the time (in addition to all of the amazing food). The service is great too. They were pretty quick to get our meal out. read more

Home style cooking, delicious and traditional but not refined. The giveaway of any Mexican restaurant is the tortilla and cheese. If you are served white flower tortilla and yellow cheese it tends to NOT be authentic. I am happy to report here they are traditional and authentic. Please know this is not high end Rosa Mexicana style cuisine that you get at a $40 a plate restaurant. This has more of a neighborhood feel with the local flare. Not overpriced and this is Mexican food that is about as authentic as you can get. I'll note that I've noticed that some Mexican restaurants get higher reviews, but they're they're selling food that is often adapted to conventional American tastes. I much prefer the authenticity. Simply my favorite restaurant. The Carnitas enchiladas with salsa Verde is my favorite food in the world. It's spicy but so worth it. I also highly recommend the Carnitas burrito or the queso fundito burrito. The margaritas are super good too! Super affordable and worth every penny! read more
